Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Location, the room had recently had a spruce up . Really good shower . Fridge , microwave and kettle .
Sadly the food in the pub wasn’t up to scratch ( as other reviews had said ) . Would recommend the chip shop just minutes away .
Fantastische ligging
Wel een erg klein kamertje voor de prijs. En er was niets te eten. Zowel geen ontbijt als avondeten.

Pokey studio room we were incorrectly allocated instead of chalet we had paid for. On challenging we were told 2 bookings under same initial had been confused. The studio room is tiny, mismatched bedside cabinets, and a dwarf wardrobe. The TV was a good size. Clothes were stained by rust from outside furniture. Sodden, overflowing ashtray on table - obviously been there for a while When changed to the chalet, the room was bigger ( one could swing a cat) however not clean, dwarf wardrobe again, tiny TV, fleas from previous occupants (also in the games room), shower was hot and could not be turned down Positives Water and plenty of milk in fridge Superb location Parking Friendly people who are helpful, but ineffective Food Expensive School dinner standard at best Mashed potato - lumpy and charged £20 Drinks Really expensive Tips for staying/visiting Do not accept studio room Take a bottle of wine with you, seating with chalets enjoys lovely coastal views Fleaspray is advisable Eat elsewhere it will be cheaper Great if you have dogs and want beach walks
The view and bar staff were very accommodating
The property was not clean enough Cutlery not clean Carpets smelt The double bed mattress is like concrete You cannot even see out of the windows due the dirt on the windows 2 alcoholic drinks were £17.00 I think this was very expensive for a small village bar
Right on the beach fantastic view.Room very clean and well fitted out. Shower room adequate.
No way to avoid walking sand into the room. Simple mat or scraper at the door would fix this. Bar food average.
The location was the only upside
Disgusting room. Lack of interest from staff. Generally grim.
Lovely little get away being so close to the beach. Very friendly people
It was a shame the kitchen was closed the few days we were there
In front of lovely beech Excellent view for sunrise
No food available on this particular night. Not many eating places nearby
Location is spectacular with beautiful view and lovely clean, dog friendly beach. The accomodation was basic but very tidy and clean.
Booked here as was told hot food available all day and breakfast served from 9.00. Told on arrival that kitchen now run by outside independent party who hadn't turned up. Later told chef was off sick. Heard later that there is rarely hot food available. Sad that ownership has changed hands. Visited last year and things were much more efficient.
The location
On arrival we were told quite bluntly that there was no food available- the kitchen was closed - no reason was given . It would have been a game changer to have know before arriving as there are no other restaurants around except a fish and chip shop. Also I booked a king size bed - it was a double At night they leave the extremely bight green lights on all night which shine through the doors and windows so your room is lit up like it’s Christmas!!
Great view
Perfect location being directly on the beach! Apartment was clean and comfortable. Kitchen space very tiny and no washing up facility! We had to rinse cups and plates in the small bathroom basin. Very quiet, just across from the bar We ate one night , food was ok although maybe overpriced . On the whole was a nice weekend break away
Bar and restaurant advertised that it was open all day however last orders were called at 8pm on Thursday, I think it was open later at weekend but we didn’t go in a second time!
Fantastic location , clean and comfortable accommodation with everything you need for your stay. Dog friendly with direct access to a truly beautiful beach with the softest sand . We will definitely be staying again
Having to pack up and go home!
Amazing sea view from the room window and specious terrace. We practically lived in the beach! The room was clean and had all necesarry utensils.
Studio was a bit too small, we wanted to have more space in the room. Breakfast is not provided in the restaurant so we had to find another place which is 7 minutes walk.
A lovely view from the window directly looking out to the sea. The windows were open all night so lots of air and we could hear the waves all night. A good stock of tea/coffee/milk.
The room was very small, so we struggled to even walk around the bed. The bed was also very low to the ground and there were also no bedside lights. The shower was so small that you could hardly move in it and there was no shelf to put the toiletries. The wi-fi did not work. One of the cups was really dirty (possibly had been used for hot chocolate) but when we took it to a member of staff they were very apologetic and changed it immediately.
It was in a Great location
We were right on the sea front
Food was terrible as the first night we stayed there it was microwave or deep fried food, plus they charged me extra for my dogs which wasn’t noted on booking
Chalets are clean & equipped with basic needs. Tea & Coffee making facility provided in room along with bottled water in fridge. Location on beach is perfect.
Be aware that in the chalet the loo door is a loose fitting sliding door which gives very little privacy.
The location was absolutely superb. A couple of steps straight onto the beach with stunning scenery all around.
Minor criticism would be not greatly equipped - had to go ask for glasses and mugs and cutlery but were given them as soon as we requested.
Didn't stay, as there was an issue with accommodation
On arriving in the accommodation, we discovered we had no power for fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, also bedside lamp had the same problem, we were eventually given an extension lead which was put through bathroom window, which didn't appear safe, due to having to have window open, so complained received refund and had to quickly find somewhere else to stay
Our friends were lucky enough to have a sea view & loved it. Proximity to the lovey sandy beach brill. Beds comfortable if a little noisy .
Nowhere to hang anything incl our shower wet towels. Just one chair & we were all pretty sure we’d booked an apartment with sitting area so that we cd share time together. Nowhere to eat for 4 of us limited cutlery. Made eating out extortionate as found area v expensive compared to the south of Uk.
When it said right on the beach, it was literally right on the beach. Lovely dog friendly place, clean and well equipped. Perfect for a relaxing break
Location
Love this place, dog friendly lovely hosts and staff, always willing to accommodate. I thought that I had booked 3 nights but actually booked 2! They were very polite in telling us this (We hadn't checked out and were sitting on the beach!!) and managed to move us into the room next door for the last night.
Rooms are starting to look a little tired now, could maybe do with a bit of a spruce up. Food, I had lasagna but it was a bit burnt and hard so we didn't eat there again.
Its location clean bedding and towels
It was very run down nothing like the photos on booming.com. They do not serve breakfast
Location was perfect, two steps and you were on the beach. Dog friendly although our dog never wanted come off the beach.
Sink ideally could be slightly bigger as washing dishes was not easy, but saying that the location outweighs this.
The location was absolutely perfect, I stayed whilst I was 27 weeks pregnant and I wanted to take the bed home! It was so comfortable and hearing the waves right outside your window was incredibly relaxing!
Spacious rooms Clean bedding and towels Location right on the beach Some toiletries and plenty of toilet roll
Poor customer service - young man ran ahead of us to show us to our apartment but we couldn't keep up and then he just opened our door, handed us the key card and then left. He did not show us inside or make sure we were happy with everything - I later spoke to the same person regarding registering my vehicle so as not to get a fine. He told me that AI check all vehicles and that parking charges were for people wanting access to the beach. I explained that I had not provided my vehicle details on the booking so how would AI know which car was mine. He just said it was fine, so hoping I don't get a fine through the post now. The room was dirty - half a biscuit and crumbs along the sofa in the main bedroom - dirty windows obscuring the view - water (or some other fluid) marks and drips on the TV in main bedroom - broken furniture (sets of drawers) - stains on carpet and furniture - dirty marks in kitchen cupboards Poor attention to detail regarding decorating - visible edges on cladding in bathroom - access space to pipes uncovered Cost over £300 for 2 night stay in a room which was dirty and not looked after so I would not have wanted to stay longer, needing to use the kitchen facilities
We have been here 5 times it’s lovely

We arrived three hours before the key pick up time with the intention of going straight to the beach, called into the pub to ask if we needed to register car number and were advised that our chalet was cleaned and ready and we could have the key, such lovely, super friendly and efficient staff, with an out of this world location, doggy and human heaven, I would not hesitate to recommend Poachers Pocket to anyone.
Having to leave 😥
The location, having a fridge and microwave was excellent, the location, being able to park, wake up to seeing the beautiful beach. It was all stunning
The price was over the top for single occupancy. I paid £104 and the ladies next door to me had 2 people which means 2 beds to strip equalling extra work and they paid £88. I found the pricing strategy all wrong.
The position of the chalet right on the beach made this holiday. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. The fact we could take our dog was appreciated too. Accommodation was clean and had everything we needed for our stay.
The chalet was very clean and had everything we needed. The pub was nice and staff were very friendly. The location was great with the gorgeous beach on your doorstep. Parking was free. There is a cafe and shop within walking distance.
Nothing
So close to the beach. Very simple but everything you needed for a relaxing break
Location, accommodation
Not many staff. Greeted by bar staff (lovely) but no one else was around.
The only problem was the journey home...that was a nightmare but our stay was great,it's the third visit to Poachers pocket and it has never disappointed, just the location sells it,150 steps to the beach, summer holidays and plenty of space to do whatever you want, will return if I get over the journey back After a couple of rough years it was just what was needed
Can't think of anything
Perfect location, nice little clean chalet
Would have been good to have had a dust pan and brush to sweep up any sand
Position of the hotel next to beach was a huge plus point
Food service could have been better
great location
Lovely location right next to the beach. Chalets basic but comfortable and clean. Lots of places to eat close by.
Pub no longet does breakfasts. Main menu the same for lunch and evening and not to my taste
Close proximity to the beach
No hob, kitchen facility poor. Could of done with a brush to sweep sandy floor, little room got overheated
Been before and would stay again. Simple rooms but with everything you need. Staff all very polite and helpful.
The restaurant wasnt open for breakfast on either days we stayed. Would have been nice to have been told on check in so we could have been more prepared.
Being so close to the beach was amazing, loads of seating to use to enjoy the view. The pub/restaurant attached did lovely food in the evening and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was quite spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
A few too many dogs staying , I have a phobia of large dogs due to a childhood incident, however they were kept on leads and seemed well behaved so was ok. Unfortunately there was a power cut from 10.30pm until 1am on the night I stayed , as I have to sleep with a CPAP machine this was quite scary for me ,there didn`t seem to be anyone around to help so I managed to get in touch with a friend who managed to get me sent text updates from UK power networks . As it was raining heavily I couldn`t even sit outside and watch the sea so was left in a dark room with random access to my phone to let friends know I was ok.
Great location, clean and good facilities.
The door to the balcony didn't lock.
We were right on the beach which was wonderful
Direct access to beach
Free Parking on site
Stunning location. You cannot get closer to the beach than this.
Beer is a bit too expensive
Location was amazing, perfect sea view. Lots of tea sugar coffee and water bottles and uht milk pots in fridge. Shower gel and shampoo in bathroom. Towels supplied. Staff were all nice. Also ate in the on site restaurant where the food was good but maybe a little over priced. Scampi and chips was £19.50. Kids meals £10.50 for nuggets and chips but the view from restaurant was beautiful and the staff also friendly. There aren't many places to eat in the immediate area on a Sunday afternoon.
All was great but more cutlery would have been better as there was only two knives two forks and one dessert spoon, no teaspoons and only one bowl which was a minor issue.
The location is good for exploring difference areas, and a real novelty to be right on the beach. Basic, quiet, good for dogs.
This place has such potential and could be really amazing with some updates to the decor, both in the room and pub. The bed and pillows were quite uncomfortable, but manageable just for a few nights.
The property was right on the beachfront and the room was very light and airy
Nothing really only the fag butts that are on the floor around the seat in the area but I suppose this cannot be maintained very well as it’s all sand
The location was this place saving grace. Beach was beautiful.
Room..... No room to cook anything. Sink in bathroom so small couldn't wash up. Towels like sandpaper...take your own we did thank goodness. Old dated needs alot of tlc. Sheets ripped. Pillows lumpy. A green light stays on all night along side of pub bedroom lite up all night.. Door glass had to hang clothes over it so we could sleep. No privacy needs blinds on windows. Pub.... no food was told kitchen shut for 3 days yet a review 2 months ago was told the same!!!!! Dated needs tlc plastic flowers awful. Staff couldn't care less about you. Huddled in corner talking to locals. Outside pots with dead flowers and cigarette butts. It could be lovely but it seems they do as little as they can. Last day fire alarm went off no one on site was going for nearly a hour. No information regarding if an emergency happened.
Nice cosy little hideaway right on the beach, had everything needed for a 3 night stay.
Bed was uncomfortable, too hard.
Location
Furniture was out of a charity shop. Very shabby and rundown. Felt unsafe as had to phone fire brigade as fire alarms going off for over an hour and no one on premises and no one answering their website phone number
Location
No food was available
The accommodation and location was very good.
There was no food being served which is advertised on the booking site. Therefore no evening meal or Breakfast option due to Chef being called away for a few days. It would have been nice to have been informed of this ahead of arrival
We liked the location ,so close to the beach
The entry key fobs are an absolute pain, works when it feels like it . We had booked the Poachers pocket after reading the reviews and especially how good the food was How disappointed were we when we arrived for dinner to be told the place had been taken over and it was the first day of a very scaled back menu ,also the WiFi was down so it was cash only and we had to pay upfront for our meals ,needless to say we went up the road and got very nice fish and chips, then didn't bother with the restaurant for the rest of our stay On check out the main building was locked so we gave our useless fob to a lady ,we had no idea who she was ,there was no ,"thank you for staying with us ",no "was everything OK " very bizarre. We understand that a new business may have teething problems and we hope they iron them out for future guests .
We did not eat at the Poachers Pocket but they have started serving food again. The accommodation was ideal for the two of us and being so close to the beach was a massive bonus. Very comfortable bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and sugar with milk and water in the fridge. Staff were lovely ❤️
The Wi-Fi was hit and miss but did not affect our stay.
The sea view was excellent. The bedding was clean. The staff were friendly.
It was very dated. It had the feel of a hostel or HMO. The furniture was very old and dated. The fixtures and fittings were odd and often unfinished. The entrance to the apartment was difficult to access. However it was low budget and had an excellent sea view. It was also clean and there were toiletries.
Location value for money
Need a new duvet as on on bed was heavily stained and the aerial on to needs attention
Lots of free parking (this is free for residents although there are signs suggesting otherwise) Fantastic location right by the beach Friendly welcome and helpful staff Free WiFi available Incredibly comfortable beds & a great shower Peaceful & quiet & spacious rooms Terrace with chairs overlooking the beach The views from the room are beautiful Fan in lounge provided Very comfortable sofas Curtains are dark for bedrooms for a good night's sleep Tv in every room lounge & bedroom's Food available locally .. fish & chips, all day breakfast at Kingfishers cafe (walking distance) & lovely pub the lighthouse Inn a 2 min drive or 15 min walk away. Local shop 5 min walk.
Surprised on arrival to be told we had a £10 per day charge for the dog Stains on the carpet I do feel these let down the apartment
The location is great, right on the beach
Flies, millions of them in the bar and rooms. The bed was the hardest bed I've ever had to sleep on. The toilet wasn't fixed to the floor. The shower was tiny. The staff hadn't been informed of my booking and had to show the confirmation on my phone. We stayed in the recently refurbished room, I wouldn't like to see the older rooms
Spacious, comfortable, the veranda was fabulous.
Hard to find anything wrong but there was a lack of small lamps
Right on the beach. Fall sleep to the sound of waves
Darker curtains needed
Just the no food due to kitchen no open
So close to a lovely beach
Nothing
Fantastic location right next to beach
Room was okay but the mattress was hard with massive ‘roll together’ in the middle so we were nose to nose downhill or sleeping uphill in recovery position. Signs everywhere saying food available and booked believing there would be … alas no food.
Close to the beach, had a relaxed vibe about it.
Nothing comes to mind.
1) Amazing location, just on the beach, beach was quite and peaceful. Good place to be if you want to be by the sea and not spend much time in the accommodation. 2) apartment well equipped - two towels per person, mini soaps/ shampoos/conditioners, plenty of mini milks, two small water bottles, plenty of tea and coffee, salt and pepper, cutlery , plates and glasses 3) plenty of space for the price- two bedrooms with kitchenettes with two en- suites and small connecting bit
1) accomodation was very out outdated- both regarding maintainence ( holes in carpet, mould on sealant) and decoration ( mishmash of all sorts of styles) 2) door closing system - anyone with code can enter bit connecting two bedrooms, bedrooms has individual keys. Which means overnight you need to close each bedroom and one party cannot enter another party's bedroom - which was a problem for us as a family, when our 4- years old needed pj change middle of the night and they were locked in other bedroom 3) no food in the accommodation, we went short drive away to local fish and chips ( they were not great) 4) temperature management - no fans in rooms, no air conditioning, thick duvet - it was very hot. Anyone could crawling through a window in one room, so couldn't leave that open
Comfortable bed, all that you needed was there except a little shelf in the shower would be good. The view was fabulous. It was clean.
Apart from when I was shown to my room, never saw staff. No option for breakfast. Chalet could do with a little tlc, as it was a bit tired looking.
Location is amazing, perfect base.
Tea bags were definitely not normal tea, even after 3 attempts at asking for some. No food served anymore.
Clean accommodation and just steps from the beach - and the beach is fantastic
We were not advised that Poachers Pocket were no longer serving food. We booked on the basis that food at this venue was available throughout the day from breakfast to evening meal. To be told on arrival that we could not eat on the premises was very disappointing and I am not sure if the venue or booking.com are at fault here. The booking was made based on the location and that food would be available. This needs to be addressed.
Loved it
The location
Beautiful location
Up a flight of stairs which made it a little tricky for a disabled dog. A family who were staying in the car park in their caravan very loud - screaming, shouting and swearing multiple times during our stay. Police searching the area after 10pm which was a little unsettling.
Fantastic location. Both rooms had en suite shower rooms. Table and chairs on the upper deck to watch the sun go down
With the pub no longer serving food they really need more cooking in the kitchen, there was one pan and two plates, bowls and sets of cutlery in a property that sleeps 4. Nothing to put wet clothes on to dry - an airer would have really helped as you could put it in the shower or outside on the deck to dry. Another table on the deck - every time we went out it was being used by the people in the other flat. Also something outside to wash off sandy feet - we put a washing up bowl of water outside for this, it would really help as sand gets tramped through the corridor and into the flat. It was generally clean and tidy although the drawer on the bedside cabinet in the double room was broken. The showers are tiny! But there was always hot water. You can hear the noise from the put below but it doesn't stay open late (apart from the night England were playing Panama in the world cup! That was quite noisy til quite late but we will forgive them that!!). To be honest the location makes up for everything - fall asleep to the sound of the waves and up for a swim before breakfast.
Sea view location was beautiful. The beach is fantastic. It was easy to park and within walking distance of a beachfront cafe and another pub about a 20 minute walk away.
Unfortunately they were unable to offer any food whilst we were there, which was disappointing and we’d probably not have booked this break if we’d known in advance. The bed was rather hard and we’d assumed that the two bedroomed apartment on the top floor was the only one but it was shared in a random haphazard layout that wasn’t as good as the photos showed. The deluxe superior sea view suite was the one we expected but we were in Flat 1 which was a bit basic. The decking area at the top of the stairs was very shabby, hadn’t been cleaned and furniture was very poor.
Fabulous location! Great view. Well equipped.
Dog excrement not cleaned up outside of bar. Duvet & cover very heavily scented and I personally didn't like the type of fabrics.
The view from the apartmemt however the windows were filthy
That they didn't serve food, my freiend had recently broken her foot so this was the reason we stayed at this location so wouldn't have to venture out, was told this on arrival on the booking it states that food is served. Not very clean, dirty tissues, hair bobbles etc on the floor grease on splashback along with other things. No wifi, tv wouldn't work! And the drain downpipe was hanging off
Fantastic location, right on the beach, pubs, cafés nearby
No food served at the venue, beach access not appropriate for limited mobility
Been several times before the location is excellent
After checking in we asked to book a table for evening meal only to be told we no longer serve food. Asking why we weren’t notified of this before our stay the barmaid said “ it is what it is go to the lighthouse”
Not applicable
No hairdryer Uncomfortable bed
It’s right on the beach
We booked the property because it had restaurant facilities. Unfortunately it wasn’t serving food during our stay
The accommodation is basic but so near the sea it’s stunning, very clean and has everything you need. Dissapointed that the kitchen was closed, and the shower came away from the wall although still usable. Third visit I love this place very dog friendly although I don’t have a dog.
The kitchen being closed and the dodgy shower
The weather
Everything else
The location and sea view were excellent and the apartment was very well equipped.
The cleanliness; the window ledges had not been dusted with dead bugs, the kitchen wipeable wall was not very clean, nor the shower wall. There was a earbud and clothes label left in one of the bedroom wardrobe, and 2 of the cups were dirty. The decor was unexpected and not at all in tune with the lovely nautical look of the building, which is a shame.
The location is perfect, right on the sea front. The staff were nice and friendly.
As regular visitors to this area over many years we have driven past the Poachers Pocket on numerous occasions, having stopped off for the occasional meal and drink, and often wondered what it would be like for a stay. Our friends came here last year and thought it was ok, and with good food. So we decided to give it a 3 night stay. On arrival it looked ok - a bit jaded perhaps - and the chalet was a good size with a very nice bathroom/toilet, but the rest of the room was full of tired looking non matching furniture, so not particularly comfy. The tv was good, but suffered from a very weak intermittent WiFi signal, which precluded us from watching any of the streaming services, and also our phones were unresponsive, made worse by the almost negligible data signal as well. The selection of crockery and cutlery was poor, having only 2 of everything, except teaspoons (1), dessert spoons (zero), carving knives (0) However the overriding criticism of our trip was the complete lack of food in the pub. We had booked this on the basis of having dinner and breakfast each day, but really disappointed when told there was nothing. No prior notice before we went, and the billboards around the place all extolled the various provisions for food, with a restaurant and cafe available. Nothing to alert anyone that there was no food available.. Very bad form! As a result we think the whole break was poor value for money.
Location was phenomenal, beach access right on your doorstep Quiet getaway and dog friendly which was great.
No food being served despite advertising everywhere food available all day, not allowed access to the bar until after 12pm. Bar prices very high and didn't add up right at one point. No fan in room and it was VERY hot. Radiator and lamp covered in dust, towel holder breaking off the wall, some tile behind the toilet fallen off. Dogs not allowed on furniture despite being dog friendly and having their own husky
Clean chalet, it had everything we needed. Close to the beach. I could hear the sea from the room! UHT Milk and water available in the fridge.
Nothing. No food available in the pub but I was aware of this from other reviews so utilised the fridge and kettle!
Perfect location.
Stayed in a family apartment. My child pulled over a cheap chest of drawers on wheels. So perhaps needs better safety considerations. Curtain rail was also falling down. Otherwise fine except that foors and chairs were extremely dirty and thick with dog hair. Didn’t meet basic cleanliness in our opinion. We believe one of our children picked up a ring worm infection from here. Great location but not clean.
Beautiful location
No food available. Stayed here before and had dinner and breakfast
Great location and views of the sea was great too. Facilities were also very good and comfortable.
Nothing
Fantastic location, relaxed atmosphere
Location
Not informed they were no longer offering food, when it’s advertised in booking.com, their site, and the property, and not a lot of options in the area, on a Sunday afternoon to get an evening meal, was told by the staff the oven in our room didn’t work so even a pizza was out of the question, the place needs some love putting back into it, our room cooker didn’t work, drain pipe hanging off the wall on the balcony, was very sad to see it looking deserted
The location
The location is beautiful, and very peacefull. Exactly what we wanted.
We enjoyed our stay. But when we booked we were looking for somewhere close to the beach with a restraunt. So we both could have a meal and a couple of drinks without driving. Reviews showed that the food was very good. The photos of Poachers pocket clearly show BAR RESTRAUNT AND ACCOMADATION. WHEN WE ARRIVED WE WERE TOLD THERE IS NO FOOD AT ALL. That was a very big disapointment. And because of the remoteness caused us to have to drive a few miles for an evening meal , also meaning we had to walk or go by car for breakfast If we had known there was NO FOOD we would not have booked here. We feel that the site needs quite a fair amount of renovation and updating.
Excellent location, right on the beach. Our 2 bed apartment was spacious and well equipped. Was spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable.
The only minor gripe is that they're not doing food at the moment.
Great place to stay ,right on the beach , clean and comfortable bed 🙂
It was a shame that the kitchen wasn't open for the wholr time we were there as would have been nice to eat at the bar too
Close to beach
The fact that having checked the hotel website stating it could provide food. It was very disappointing to find when we got there that they did not offer any food.
Excellent position right on the beach. Staff friendly and welcoming.
The website advertises the poachers pocket serves food. It has stopped doing any kind of food. Ourselves and others only booked here because of the combination, great location and restaurant.
