Excellent, clean property with brilliant facilities. I would definitely stay again.
Fabulous accommodation down to every detail.
Traffic noise
Perfect location. Could walk to restaurants and shops
Loved everything
The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Very well presented, quality appliances, comfortable beds and everything was spotlessly clean. The air conditioning was very quick to warm up and make our mid winter stay warm and comfortable.
This property was beautiful, close to everything. So relaxing.

Gorgeous with everything we needed
Walking distance from numerous restaurants. Very generous sized rooms. Some nice outdoor space overlooking the river one nice days and evenings. Spa was great.
A fair bit of road noise as the property is on the main route between Havelock North and Hastings.
Beautifully presented with high quality furnishings
Comfortable, quiet and close to town and walking path.
Steps into main ensuite at night (maybe a little nightlight?)
Loved the moody, yet homely feel about the cottage. In particular the amazing robes. 10/10 robe choice :)
I wish the spa was just 1 degree hotter with a little more privacy to the road.
We stayed with friends to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Our main purpose for the rental was to stay somewhere comfortable that was close-ish to home (Central Hawkes Bay), so we could escape domestic life & kids for 4 nights & days! The location was perfect for our purposes (25 mins drive from home). The level of comfort was outstanding. The beds were especially comfy. We loved the luxury & the rustic charm - so thoroughly designed & decorated with beautiful little touches. Very tasteful & aesthetic. The birdsong (especially the Tui), hot tub, patio bar & the oak tree & river views were highlights. Being so close to the village was very handy. Nearly every attention to detail was thought of. Reading the book (photo story) of the history of the property was fascinating - what a labour of love! We have beautiful memories of friendship, laughter, fun, and merriment to treasure forever from our stay here in the early days of 2026.
There are only little nit-picky bits, really. Candles, maybe? For romance (although maybe the hosts don't want candle wax getting on precious furniture?). Cocktail glasses, maybe? (there's an impressive range of glasses: red wine, white wine, shot glasses, tumblers, beer glasses - but no cocktail glasses). We brought our own cocktail glasses etc. because we knew we'd be mixing cocktails & didn't expect there to be any available. If there had been, there would've been an impressive complete set of glasses! There were 3-4 rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom. We ran out on the last day. Maybe a couple more rolls per bathroom or stored somewhere? We cooked & baked all our own meals (including baking a birthday cake for Mr. 50) & the kitchen wasn't really set up for this (probably more suited to guests who mostly wine & dine in the village). There's plenty of bowls, plates, cutlery, BBQ gear, glasses, a frying pan, pots, a cheese grater, platters & nibbles bowls, coffee cups & saucers & bigger coffee mugs, a coffee plunger, a Nespresso machine & milk frothing machine, which we really enjoyed (however, there were only 6 pods available so not enough for all of us to have a coffee each morning). Also, no teapot. I brought my own cake tin, presuming there wouldn't be one there (there wasn't), which is fine. However, we were surprised to note there was no sieve to drain our Gnocchi, no wooden spoon to mix ingredients, no big bowl to mix the cake in - just a big salad bowl & a too-small glass bowl, no egg-beater or hand-held kitchen whizz or processor to whip cream, no measuring cups or spoons, only 2 tea-towels (so they both got soaked very quickly), and we had to boil the Gnocchi in two batches because there was no pot/saucepan big enough to fit it all in one.
Great location, fantastic accommodation with top quality fixtures and fittings. The kitchen was fully equipped with excellent quality utensils in good condition. The hot tub was super and so were the hosts!
Nothing we didn’t like
Fantastic location!
Location was even better than expected - easy, level walk to town and oh so close. The property was big and had everything required for an amazing break. Kitchen had multiples of the basics needed - crockery, cutlery and all the different wine glasses known to man. Also had those little things we didn't expect like olive oil, cheese knives, platters, cleaning products paper towel and cling wrap - essential when you are preparing food and often have to supply yourself - many thanks. Loved the spa after a busy day and the outdoor verandahs. Really felt like our home during the stay.
Nothing is the overall response to what we didn't like, but if I had to find a single dislike (very difficult to do and also very personal) but not everyone likes a firm pillow when sleeping - so a little variety maybe.
Beautifully renovated and styled, beds were comfortable and kitchen well equipped. Lovely outdoor area, sheltered from the wind.
It’s on a very busy road which is noisy but the house is sound proofed. The steps into the lounge and second bedroom could have a railing for older people. The kitchen table is high with stools and we would have preferred a normal sized table & chairs for ease of getting in and out of.
The whole decor was stunning, very comfortable.
Can't think of anything.
Great location, easy walking distance to the centre of Havelock North. The cottage had a lovely ambience. It had everything you needed for your stay and more. Beds were extremely comfortable and the showers were fantastic. Full cooking facilities if you wanted to use them. Spa pool on rear deck overlooked the stream. Access was easy via a door lock. We would certainly stay here again.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Very well finished high quality cottage. Loved the beds. Walking distance of Havelock North.

Really comfortable beds and excellent location
Adding some outside seating for afternoon sun could be a great addition
Loved our time at Black Cottage and we look forward to staying again. Very comfortable with every facility you could need, and fabulous contact from Pete and Lisa. Super close to Havelock North too. Highly rate this lovely property.
Location was great, beds and linen beautiful, spotlessly clean, spa a great temperature and clean, easy parking.
We had an amazing stay at the Black Cottage Accommodation in Havelock North. The presentation was outstanding — everything was stylish, clean, and thoughtfully set up. The location couldn’t have been better, close to all amenities and just a short drive to some incredible wineries. The space was comfortable and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Best of all, it was excellent value for money. Highly recommend, and we would definitely stay again!
Amazing, high quality accommodation. Has everything you need and in excellent condition. Location is perfect and easy walking distance into the heart of Havelock North. Would definitely recommend and will be back.
We loved the rustic décor, high timber ceilings, beautiful linens, and fabulous lighting. Cottage is closer to town than we expected, and on a busy road, but very quite inside and facing onto a peaceful gully and stream. Easy walk into town and a new flagship New World. Havelock North was lovely - great high street and shops, including Augustine.
The space, walking distance to town, the spa.
We arrived peak hour and thought the main road may be noisy, but outside of peak it was ok.
Spectacular inside and out. Perfect location for a visit to Havelock North.
Nothing at all.
Brilliant stay at Black Cottage for four nights. Facilities were amazing, the place was spotless, plus so many personal touches which made it even more cosy as a home away from home for a few nights. Location was brilliant and we often walked into town.
Nothing!
Good location, great friendly hosts. Beautiful home. Lovely and private even tho it is on a main road.
Beautiful cottage. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Modern and well equipped. Nice and close to town.
A bit noisy during the day as next to a busy road with a lot of traffic noise.
Exceptional finishing touches and everything we needed right on hand. A really relaxing and quality experience.
It was all lovely
Facilities and comfortable . Easy access to surrounds.
Proximity to busy road, hence traffic noise .
The property was simply stunning, it was beautifully furnished, the bathrooms were excellent, and the beds were comfortable. It was a relaxing home away from home. The proximity to town was excellent. Everything was walkable. Te Mata Peak was a short drive away for hiking.
The traffic noise. The property is not sound proof as stated, and is 15 meters from the main arterial road between Havelock North and Hastings. This road carries approximately 20,000 cars a day (online news article), so the noise can be loud and constant, including the middle of the night. I’m a light sleeper, so I had trouble sleeping and I was born with hearing loss. My wife was fine. I would say it’s ‘Sound Insulated’, not proof. If you can handle some traffic noise, then I highly recommend staying here.
Luxury in a stylish cottage.
Great location. Short walk into Havelock town where you can find great eateries. Loved relaxing in the spa under cover on the deck after a short drive for a vineyard for lunch. TV in the bedroom is a bonus.

Location was perfect and the accommodations were lovely.
Great place to stay for a weekend break in Havelock North. Modern cottage, well kept, comfortable, clean and warm. Easy parking and short walk to town Centre. Everything was easy, host Pete was helpful and friendly prior to our arrival and with any requests we had. Highly recommend to couples, friends or family for a stay in the area.
Modern, roomy, well equipped, spa.
No bedside shelf in one bedroom, no light over bbq area and no outdoor heater.
Excellent location with fabulous decor. The beds were amazing - top quality and great nights sleep. Loved the spa pool.
Everything was great although bedside tables or shelf could be added to one of the bedrooms.
Great location and very comfortable high quality accommodation. A 5 minute walk to the town centre and nice being located next to a walking track.
The property is very close to a busy road but this was minor as it wasn’t noisy when inside the house or when sleeping.
An absolutely beautifully presented cottage in the perfect location. The cottage is a gem in a quaint setting, you can relax inside or outside. Set next to a stream you can enjoy listening to the birds in the morning whilst drinking a coffee (breakfast treats were fab thank you Peter). The cottage has all the amenities you need. Just a short walk into the village which has lovely cafes, restaurants and boutique shops. A short drive to Te Mata Peak and Cape Kidnappers. We wished we had stayed longer and will definitely be back! You will just love your stay here.
Nothing.
Beautiful property, really well appointed and equipped..Easy walk into delightful little town full of good eating opportunities.
Traffic a bit noisy outside but not a problem inside.
We loved the layout of this new house. It is spacious and well equipped with lots of outdoor area to enjoy. This is a great place to base yourself for visiting wineries with all the top ones nearby. We loved the cycle trails around Havelock North and the short walk to the village and pool.
The convenient location on the main road out to Hastings means that there is a fair bit of traffic noise.
The accommodation and facilities were excellent, extremely well equipped and furnished. Also very nice to have milk, tea, coffee and cereal.
Closer to a busy road than we expected so a little noisy, especially at peak hours.
Close to town, great outdoor space, modern appliances, cosy, quiet. This place is a gem and you'd be lucky to stay here. We (family of four) spent a week here and would happily return.
Nothing.
Loved the rustic charm, location to Havelock village and the luxury linens.
Sound system as a wee bit of a challenge to connect too!
Loved the location and loved the house it was beautifully done
The traffic noise was pretty bad when sitting outside
