Beautiful location on the river, and the both tub was a very welcome surprise after a long hike.
The location is perfect and the restaurant is OK. It is what it is, a sleep and refuelling stop for wall walkers. Small, simple rooms.
If they are going to offer walkers a packed lunch, increase the price and do it properly. A sad, thin sandwich of a quality found in a small petrol station, generic flapjack, crisps, small bottle of water and tiny apple? The North of England can do a better walker’s lunch than this!
Mooie ligging Mooie ruime kamer
Location
Overpriced for the standard of room offered
Handy location and good food. Room was small considering the cost.
Small room.
Charmerende hotel med smuk have helt ned til floden. Glimrende aftens- og morgenmad. Pæne værelser
Sengen var hård som et brædt 😊
Nice clean quiet room on ground floor as requested.
We booked our evening meal for 19.30 which is when we arrived at the restaurant and shown to our table. Our drinks order was taken 25 minutes later when the waitress came over to take our food order and we informed her that we had not had our drinks order taken yet ,we then noticed people who had come in after us were being served food before we had got our drinks and well before we got our meals.
Very good breakfast. Lovely dining room with view of river
The position of the room
Lage
A good stop off for the Hadrians wall walk. Waiting staff really helpful and thoughtful (Charlotte was the stand out most helpful & kind)
It’s not cheap and it has the feel of a large chain pub. Food was good but not great.
food was really nice, overall perception of the venue was positive, only down point was the decoration in the shower room peeling paint and signs of black mould, as a Decorator can I suggest using zinsser perma white for these areas
shower room decoration
The room and the beds were extremely comfortable.
The bathroom could have been cleaner.
The location is special especially if you walking part of the wall - the situation and the views are really lovely too
The long walk with luggage through narrow corridors was a challenge if you have a lot of luggage - it’s easier from the back car park to get access to rooms series 100+ but no one told us this and we struggled
It’s wonderful location for exploring Hadrians Wall & very peaceful! The evening food & breakfast are lovely! We even stayed & had the Sunday dinner which was also delicious
The young lady receptionist thursday and Saturday..
Let Show upon leaving. Made the car pRk difficult to manoeuvre.
Gorgeous location close to Adrian’s wall, great banter with front of house staff
Beautiful views of the river which the restaurant overlooked. Lovely stone property. Plenty of parking.
Nothing
By river nice view
Pool was closed ,bit run down ,drinks expensive and not much choice ,
Comfortable, clean accommodation with some good, friendly hardworking staff. Lovely riverside location next to the North Tyne
Some lazy staff; service at breakfast was shockingly slow from staff who were just chatting to each other behind the bar instead of taking breakfast orders. I had to ask them three times to come and take our order.
The location was amazing. And the building on the outside has lots of charm.
The endless spiders that were everywhere, even in the room. The open milk portion left out in the room. The cobwebs and peeling paint in the bathroom, the wood louse crawling on the bathroom floor, the grime on the bathroom shelf, the broken lampshade, the swimming pool being filled in with rubble, and the insect slalom in the public corridor in the morning! Wasps and spiders everywhere!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location overlooking the River Tyne was stunning. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed and the food both breakfast and dinner was way better than we expected. So overall an excellent stay thta we will repeat i the future.
Some improvement could be made in accessability to the rooms.
Great location, friendly staff. Room was nice - clean and convenient. Great meals.
All good.
Good food, attentive service, fantastic riverside location, ideal for exploring Hadrian's Wall country.
One of the side entrances (by the old leisure club) could do with a good clean up
Very nice hotel just on the Hadrian wall path. It has lovely garden where you can enjoy a drink with a view of the river. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Great experience.
Great location, staff friendly
Room smelled badly. Beds too small and uncomfortable. Breakfast tasty but full english option small for the cost of £15. Bad value for money but no other options on the hadrian’s wall walk
excellent location by the river friendly staff clean and comfortable rooms with a great view food overall was great...ish
bread on the ploughman's had a touch of mould on it...he did apologise and replace it but that was all he did do.
Location alongside the Tyne, near to roman attractions, Hexham and the road network to other attractions in the area.
Breakfast and dinner were ok but could have been better with a little more care.
Great location, staff helpful and polite, breakfast was served hot and was a good standard English breakfast for an inclusive price with the room.
The room smelt like covered up animal urine, the toilet seat was broken, sliding off to the slide. And the bed was very hard and unforgiving.
Lovely location and easy to get to. Lots of parking which is important.
Property looked tired and dated (carpets / wallpaper). Room was very basic for the price charge, cheap plastic trays, dull towels, curtains not blackout so disturbed sleep in the early morning. Curtain hook also hanging off the railing. Bathroom was decent but the sink was so small that the water dripped off the side. No breakfast included in the price I paid, which was £81 for one night for a single room.
1. Very helpful and polite chap on Reception when we arrived. 2. They allow dogs! 3. Lovely view from room over the garden to the river. 4. Very comfortable bed. 5. Excellent breakfast.
Nothing springs to mind!
Such a beautiful setting by the river. Really friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Beautiful location on the river and a wonderful bar and restaurant to relax and recover from a long day walking. Great nights sleep too!
Beautiful location by the river, good restaurant, large rooms, good breakfast.
Showing its age a bit, but okay for one night.
Good location, and surrounding .
Nothing
Quiet
Breakfast could do with son eve improving
Room, dinner and breakfast all very good. Perfect location for walking Hadrian's Wall. It was the most expensive accommodation on our walk. The setting was stunning, by a river and a beautiful bridge.
The building ia in desperate need of maintenance.

Wonderful location in a fabulous spot right on Hadrians Wall! Good parking facilities. Fantastic bacon sandwiches!!
A bit of a rambling building with lots of stairs up and down - not great for old legs. Can't help that though, can they?
Staff very helpful
A bit strung out
Location
Staff too casual
This is a perfect location when you hike Hadrian's Wall. Bus stop on the other side of the road and plenty of parking if you come by car. Rooms are a little on the small side but that didn't bother us. We had dinner there and enjoyed the food and beer specially after a long day of hiking. The garden is very nice and you have a few of the river and bridge over the River North Tyne. Staff was very friendly and helpful and suitcase pick up from Hadrian's Hall was perfect.
All great and we would stay at George Hotel again.
The rooms was of a good size and the bathroom was newly redecorated. the staff is attentive and helpful. the breakfast, served in the restaurant overlooking the garden and the river, is very good. the best part is the main garden on the river which has benches and tables for the guests. The view from the garden is amazing and the atmosphere really peaceful
Some of the outdoor areas need a bit of maintenance, the first impression should be a bit better
Little niggles with very young staff in bar area that was very busy on Saturday, only 1 serving , outside area needed clearing and cleaning.
Having to walk outside to get to our room stunning location, lovely clean room, garden area beautiful but needs cleaning up.
Location and standard of room
Nothing
The location was fantastic the staff were really nice the room was a good size the roast dinner was lovely
Didn't like the flies and I understand that in places with open spaces this will be a bit of a potential pest but when we were eating we were constantly having to shoo flies away and our table was right next to the window with the beautiful view of the river but the only thing that spoils it was there were multiple dead flies on the window ledge which was a bit off putting when you are eating a bit of minute of someone's time would remedy the ledge to clean it then there was breakfast again a problem with flies I would suggest having lids on bowls especially the fruit and yoghurt then we had no milk no juice the coffee machine was not working and the tea urn was run dry intact I had to tell one of the staff to turn it off but breakfast buffet needs attention
Location
Service at the bars and restaurant extremely slow
Good breakfast.
A lot of steps at The George. Difficult for impaired mobility.
Nice hotel in a great location on the Hadrian’s wall path. By the river and an elegant stone bridge. Good dinner and good cooked breakfast.
The location of the hotel is fabulous - right by the river Tyne, with a lovely beer garden to enjoy the view and access the river for swimming or paddle boarding. The rooms were clean and had all the amenities you would expect.
The issue is staffing - there are not enough. The staff who were there were very nice and helpful. However, bar service was slow and, by the end of the evening, the beer garden was a tip as no glasses, plates or rubbish had been collected during the evening. Breakfast was very disappointing. We were not late for breakfast but they had run out of staples such as croissants and yoghurt. The choice for the "continental" options was very limited. Staff were not replenishing the food, crockery or cutlery regularly and kept having to be asked. The only redeeming feature was the cooked breakfast which was individually prepared and very nice. Yes, it was a busy Friday night but surely a hotel knows this and certainly knows how many have booked in for breakfast. Would we return? Possibly as the location is very lovely but the issue with staffing levels would probably lead us to try somewhere else.
Location
Smelly carpets
Breakfast, location, river view, helpful staff.
Insect mesh/screens could have been installed over the windows, particularly given the hotel's location by the river and allotments. There was a huge problem with midges during the hot weather, when opening the windows was inevitably necessary.
Lovely aspect overlooking the water. Fabulous evening Beal and generous breakfast
Thought there was a pool and gym facilities but currently being renovated
The Hotel is in a beautiful area alongside the river.
Nothing
Breakfast excellent and location wonderful
Overall a little tired
👍
👍
Fantastic location by side of the river North Tyne, staff very friendly, food great and a smashing room view.
Nothing
Breakfast was good. The main problem with the restaurant is the very strong smell of dogs
Smell of dog in the restaurant
Wonderful hotel! Friendly staff, very comfortable beds, delicious food at the restaurant, good bar serving a range of drinks, including Twice Brewed bitter and Sycamore Pale Ale. Lovely cafe next door if you want a later start (and hence miss the hotel breakfast!)
Nothing! It was splendid!
The location was excellent, rooms were comfy and clean. Staff were nice.
Beautiful location, check in was great, very helpful gentlemen on reception
Everything was perfect, except the breakfast, service wasn’t good and most of the food items had gone, but were not replaced
Great location!
The rooms quite tired and nothing like the pictures on show, TV the size of a biscuit tin! Service abit drab and as a single occupant always seemed ignored.
Dejligt hotel i skønne omgivelser. Godt værelse, velfungerende badeværelse, gode madrasser til god søvn. Fine parkeringsforhold.
Absolut ingen klager herfra.
Rien.
The location is good with lovely walks & historic sites close by.
There was a very high charge for taking a dog £14.95 per night. The mattress on one of the beds had a number of broken springs. There was noisy work using machinery going on from 7.30am in the area behind & belonging to the hotel.
Hotel na szlaku wał Hadriana. Fantastyczny park nad rzeką w którym można sobie posiedzieć po wspaniałej kolacji. Obsługa życzliwa.
Le cadre
Tout était parfait
Excellent location.
Dining for breakfast was slow and not that tasty. The access to our room was very dirty but room itself was clean. Our room overlooked a derelict function room and garden that was covered in weeds.
Spacious room with everything we needed. Beautiful setting by the river.
Lots of random steps as the property is built on a hill. Could be a problem if you have mobility issues.
The location is outstanding. Views are breathtaking. Staff were just so helpful and genuinely pleasant to be around.
Nothing.
North Tyne Way
not in Hexham
Location and helpful staff and owner. Could do with a mini fridge in the room to keep the water cool.
Breakfast was good value for money and we dined in the restaurant whilst stayed food was very nice
Shame the swimming pool no longer available
We really liked the hotel. Staff were very friendly. The location was beautiful. It was a great place to stay for an extended family trip away with a dog.
Although we liked the hotel and location there seemed to be a lack of attention to detail. We booked three rooms in total. Two of those rooms only had one set of towels in each room, when there should if been two. In one of the twin rooms the bed base was broken. At breakfast there was no orange juice as they had ran out. The continental selection was extremely limited, e.g. no white bread for toast. It was a shame this stay could of been fantastic.
The location
The beds were too small Breakfast too greasy
The hotel is perfectly situated, especially for those who walk the Hadrian´s wall path. The distance to the Chesters Roman Fort and Museum is only a few hundret meters, a few shorter sections of the wall can be easily reched by foot. The place is picturesque and one of the most impressive on the whole path. This was my 2nd stay at the hotel, so no surprise, the accomodation is good, clean and comfortable. The staff was nice.
The restaurant is not exceptionally critisised in reviews and I won´t be more lenient in my judgement. The meals (a dinner and a breakfast) were less then average in their taste, the steak oversalted, some spoons I found while eating breakfast were not clean enough.
Schöne Lage. Gutes Ambiente. Freundliche Mitarbeiter.
Great location & although dated it was very clean
Nothing
Comfortable and helpful staff. Best bit was the dining experience. Food and service were excellent
Location and restaurant. Staff were very good
The mattress was terrible and the rooms were very noisy could hear through the walls, wafer think and noisy guests either side
The view from the garden, the breakfast pastries. Room was clean and pleasant.
More expensive than other stops on the Hadrians Wall path yet a similar quality.
During the summer months the area surrounding Chollerford where the George is located is a beacon to hikers. I had just come in from a fairly long and gruelling hike. The staff at the bar simply smiled, brought me over a great cup of tea, some nibbles which were not exactly on the menu, but were nourishment for a hungry hiker. This was topped off by the check in who when I asked if I could have a room with a bath to soak my weary bones made a real effort even though the hotel was full and offered me an upgrade to a large double room, plus bath plus seating area. North England hospitality and service at its best in a superb location next to the Tyne river.
The self service part of the breakfast buffet perhaps requires a bit more attention even if it is only aesthetic.
Clean tidy room and the location was great for walking Hadrains’s wall
Nothing
Location was great for those walking the wall
The staff seemed so annoyed at us
Slow service as they ran out of bowls at breakfast! Surprising really.
Prachtige locatie, heerlijk eten
Kamers zijn wel wat gehorig
The rooms are spacious and a good view . The location by the river is excellent . There is a possibilty to swim in the river from the Jetty
The food is ok but not excellent
Very handy for the AD122, lovely location next to the river, nice beer garden ( bring your cosi if you fancy a dip in the river, lots of people do.) Great room and a lovely breakfast.
Nothing.
The man on reception on arrival was very friendly and helpful. The garden's and outdoor area is relaxing and very pretty with the riverside aspect. Our room had everything We needed for a comfortable night.
Because the Hotel is situated on a roundabout the noise of some of the accelerating cars was really deafening for our dog.. There were also some really out of control children, kicking a football and climbing on the garden fixtures.
Gera vieta apsistoti einant kelią "Hadrian's Wall". Geras maitinimas.
Breakfast was terrible. Nothing healthy apart from yogurt. Evening meal was dreadful. Could not eat my risotto and sent it back. Communal areas dated and look dirty
Fantastic location with lovely river views. The food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was very good. I also ordered the packed lunch which was great.
Location was perfect for our needs as we were walking hadrians wall. The hotel is a very short detour from the trail. There is a lovely beer garden along the river and some people were swimming from their little dock.
The room was very dated and walls thin, could hear neighbours talking and watching TV in their rooms. Our room had a view onto the very old and run down greenhouse and leisure centre which didnt look great.
Location Staff Bed
Breakfast could be improved. Not well organised in layout and poor choices.
