Worst Hostel Experience Ever – Avoid at All Costs! If you’re planning to stay at Bonfire Hostel in Rishikesh, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This was hands down one of the worst hostel experiences I’ve ever had. Let’s start with the bathrooms – absolutely filthy, poorly maintained, and always either out of water or barely functioning. No cleanliness standards whatsoever. It felt more like a neglected public toilet than a place that charges guests for a “stay.” The staff were shockingly unprofessional. Not only were they rude and unhelpful, but they also seemed more interested in hanging out with each other than attending to guests’ issues. When I raised concerns, they either brushed them off or gave sarcastic responses. We booked a room for three, but guess what? The “third bed” was not even a proper bed – just a thin, uncomfortable low-quality mattress dumped on the floor. When we questioned it, the staff acted like we should be grateful it was even there. Absolutely ridiculous. As for the actual beds, they were a joke. Huge gaps between the mattresses meant you’d be rolling into a crack all night – not a restful sleep by any means. And the lift? The staff literally said “It works on kismat (luck)” – yes, those were their words. So you can imagine how reliable it was. Most of the time, it just didn’t work, leaving us to drag our luggage up the stairs. Overall, this place feels like it’s running on zero effort and zero hospitality. If you value your money, sleep, hygiene, and basic respect – skip Bonfire Hostel. There are far better options in Rishikesh.

I booked this hostel only on the recommendation by my 4 friends who recently stayed there for WFH . I also decided to come & i was liking it so much & decided to extend for next 15 days when owner gave me a pretty good discount . So i had a good WFH experience with Bonfire Hostels . I was staying in a DORM and what makes it more noticeable is pretty big size beds with privacy of curtains , lights & fan on each individual bed and the room was pretty cool & chilled because the ac was working well with a power backup facility & a lift service of 24*7. Best noticeable facilities to choose this property : • Everyday rooftop yoga facility • ⁠Common activities room full of fun & games • ⁠Such an eye appealing views • ⁠Blast & chill party vibes on Saturday sunday at roof top • ⁠Full of secure & safety environment • ⁠Well mannered & behaved staff • ⁠Owners makes everyone feel like home away from home . I Choosed Bonfire hostel for me & my friend and booked a Dormitory to take a relax and choosed to do my work from home with peace & calm . The best part about this hostel is its very neat , clean , safe & secure & then all because of this we decided to extend our stay to do our WFH for more 10 days and we had a computer , printer facility with a high speed Wifi which helped us with our work. We had a hot & cold water refilling facilities and the best part about the location of the hostel is Main Balaknath Road is just 50 mtrs away where all the street food & fancy cafes are available along with lot of shops to procure all the daily essentials. For all the guest available in the property Owner attended them so nicely with active attending of 24*7 . When we decided to extend we were worring about our meals because no one can’t eat outside food everyday but owner was kind enough to allow hostel kitchen and it was basically a sharing kitchen for everyone. The property has a beautiful rooftop that makes our work more interesting & they also have a scootey rental availability as well a pick drop which makes our stay more easy and in our dorm room all the beds have their seperate charging point . So if you are a female traveller who is scared of security then this hostel is highly recommended beacuse of main door opening closing time . And if you are willing to come & stay at bonfire & want to extend . Owner gives a huge bulky discount as they gave to us . This property is a thumbs up

Convenient location and helpful staff!

The room could’ve been cleaner as some hairs left in the bathroom and on the bed - the room was a bit old and paint peeling etc.

I stayed for one night experience was great it really gives me hostel vibes with meeting fellow travellers. The hostel organise a trip for local sightseeing in affordable prices. Rooftop is like a cherry on cake . I would recommend to all .best experience so far in last 4 months of travelling. Will come back for sure especially on weekdays .

Brand new property in upper Tapovan. The lift was finished being installed the day I left and they kindly put me on a lower floor to avoid the climb. Aki and Ayush are amazing guys and helped me with anything I needed. The laundry facility in Rishikesh is only a 30 second walk from here and many great cafes nearby. Wifi is very fast. Water pressure is strong and hot. Bedding is clean. Would recommend this location to anyone coming here, if its a dorm or private room they have it all. After six months of india this is my favourite hotel.

Making a second review because I extended my stay I liked it so much Also didnt mention earlier its on the main walking route to the waterfalls. I was stranded at 3am on arrival because the hotel i booked didnt exist. This hotel was the only one that wanted to deal with me this early by calling the number on the door. the rest were locked up.

Very polite and gentle staff. Allowed us for late check out. Helped us in finding accommodation for our helps. Front desk helped in booking all our adventures. Breakfast option was plenty. Wellness part also have plus point professional yoga trainer available to guide you. You can have this option to relax your mind and soul. perfect blend of stay and wellness

I enjoyed my stay at bonfire the building is newly renovated with 3 new floors and nice double private rooms with balcony and private bathroom also dorm rooms are available. Situated on a quite steeet away from the hustle but 1 minute walk from all amenities. There’s a nice cafe on the corner serving delicious food. Quiet off street parking for motorbikes. The owners are super kind and friendly and welcoming offering laundry and fair prices. I would recommend.

Morning yoga in the rooftop studio was great, with a fantastic teacher. The position of the hostel is quite good, away from the main bustle but an easy walk to main street. The host organised a taxi to the airport for an early morning flight. The driver was the best we'd had in India and actually turned up on time unlike some of our previous experiences.

It is a huge place and there didn't seem to be many people staying. There was never anyone else in the restaurant. Food was very limited and the facilities dirty - we didn't like the dogs being in the restaurant and the kitchen. Although breakfast was included in our stay, after the first morning we decided to eat elsewhere. Our room was clean but there was no sheet on the bed until we requested one, and they struggled to find one which seemed odd. We ended up with 2 single sheets on a double bed. There was really loud music in the restaurant (even though no one there!) which kept us awake in our room on the floor below. The staircase was locked so that when there was a power cut and we couldn't use the lift, we were stuck on the 5th floor.

Very helpful and friendly host with great recommendations. We felt safe and comfortable here.

I was unaware at the time of booking that it’s normal for hostels not to have heating in the accomodation, even during the winter months. My host kindly gave me another thick blanket for my bed though so…problem solved!

The room was spacious, location quite good, in the middle of reconstruction around but 5-7min by walking to the main street and about 15-20 to the Ganges river. Breakfast food also good, cooked at the place, served just made. We could select from omlette, paratha with yoghurt, sandwich (somehow was provided only one day, other days not allowed anymore), tea/coffee, Indian masala chai, banana. They provided a heater to the room. Water was free but bottles filled in by the hotel guy, not ourselves. Thank you very much! :)

The room was cold in the beginning of January and we asked for heater because AC didn't work. During checkout they wanted to charge us for a heater, but finally applied no charges. Music on the roof until 11 pm-1 am sometimes, so be ready for some noise. We didn't see a beautiful view from the roof or our room, only buildings around, no Ganga view as other guests mentioned. Please be direct writing comments! Breakfast was fresh but the last day the boy who serves it was out and we didnt have it (though it was included into our reservation). Later the admin guy solved the issue and breakfast were served at 5pm. For appologies we were allowed to check out at 5 pm. Thanks for that too.

I had a great stay at Bonfire for a couple of nights. It was a close distance to the main road, and I had comfortable sleeps in the bed. The views from the terrace were amazing, with views of the whole mountainous area around and the city, and a great yoga studio on the top of the building.

They kept having random power outages which meant I was stuck on my floor, as the stairs to the fire exit were locked - I thought this is a bit of a safety hazard. I know is a hostel but had loud pop music playing in the evening in the hallways outside the rooms

Ours was a room with complementary food but it was the same menu for both days, aloo paratha or eggs with toast. Hostel vibe is missing, it is more of hotel.

I don't really get why it has good reviews. the dog smell is really disgusting, they even wee outside my room and they were playing in the restaurant while having dinner. the shower was not working, so I couldn't get one, bed sheets with hair, it was not washed, the guy, when we came in the room, started making the bed not changing them. the breakfast was bread by itself, no even jam to put on. when I checked out, the receptionist offered to do not pay nothing if he cancel my booking through booking.com. I decided to pay so I could write the review here. DO NOT STAY HERE

I stayed at Bonfire Hostel in Tapovan, Rishikesh, for four days. Initially, I had booked a 4-bed female dormitory for just two days, as I didn’t plan to extend my stay. I arrived early at 8:30 AM, before the check-in time of 11 AM. Instead of waiting at the reception, they offered me the option to rest on the rooftop, where they have mixed dorm beds. I took the opportunity to relax and freshen up there. When I inquired about my booked dorm, it wasn’t ready yet, but after a short wait, they provided me with a private room for two people at no extra cost. Both my roommate and I enjoyed a comfortable stay with all the necessary amenities in the room. I can’t comment on the food since I preferred to go out and try local options instead of ordering from the hostel. I want to especially thank Mr. Ayush Mittal, who was incredibly helpful and always ready to answer any questions. He was also very friendly and funny. You can book activities like river rafting and bungee jumping and many through the hostel, and I did river rafting, which turned out to be some of the best experiences of my life. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay there.

No cleanliness at all. The entire hostel is surrounded by construction work going on which offcourse nobody will publicize. The breakfast quality was horrible. Door Locks were broken . Nothing was clean in that Hostel.

Ayush, the owner, was extremely friendly, helpful, kind, and cheerful. He made us feel like family. The hostel is large and the rooms spacious. We had wonderful views from the terrace outside our penthouse apartment. We're deeply thankful to Ayush for the interesting conversations, for his warmth, and for taking care of our every need.

The penthouse is at the 7th floor so we had very weak water pressure in the shower, but it's probably better in the lower floors.

The staff at Bonfire are very helpful and talkative and they offer a great program of yoga and classes to all visitors. I slept very well and the bedroom was nice and spacious. I arrived earlier than my check in time and they were very accommodating where it was feasible.

- The first room I was allocated was really dirty. There was mould on the sheets, pillowcases, duvet, walls and inside the fridge and the surfaces seemingly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. After some negotiation I was then given a different room that was a massive improvement. - The WiFi signal didn't reach my room - They have an amazing roof terrace, but not many shaded areas to sit - The pillows are comfortable, but they need to buy some new ones as they are quite unpleasant under the pillowcases

The property is huge , absolutely in the heart of the town, very well maintained and it caters to every kind of traveller with their individual needs and preferences . Ayush is an extremely wonderful host and he makes you feel at home right from the word Go. The moment you step into the property, you feel like you are stepping into HOME. Those travellers who are into Yoga should definitely choose this property as they have in-house Yoga sessions with full time teachers.

The property is well maintained and the staff are very friendly and courteous. The owner is willing to help in anyway and with information to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Has a great view from the terrace. Has easy access to restaurants, cafés, ATM and the yoga centres in the vicinity.

The Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in the room. The location is about 5mins walk from the main road on an incline.

The staff was the best thing we loved and the rooftop gym was a good thing to start a day with yoga and exercise. Wish we had few more nights. We surely coming back!

what a experience these guys give. they have yoga classes and that too free. they have a gym area which was such a cool thing and infact the first one we tried in indian hostels. the place is managed by professional brothers who have such a discipline over the place. this place was above our expectations and we will surely recommend to those who look for a perfect stay.

It was our second stay after march and the hostel tops our list. The hosts are wonderful and the view is amazing. They do many retreats, we didn't have 3 days so unfortunately couldn't join but yes tried their Morning Beach Yoga and that was amazing. We surely coming back for the retreat.

Location was out of city chaos which was good after hearing horns in traffic. The building was new and everything was clean. The best part are the hosts Ayush and Akki who make your stay memorable. Their pool is a super good place to chill and relax in this hot. Highly Recommended

It was clean and it had a good elevator. My room never got too hot. Staff were nice and helpful. It was so close to Tulsi restaurant, literally on the doorstep.
