Shargmor Stable

Did not stay in the end

No curtains in either bedroom or lounge or bathroom. Large windows/patio doors with tinted glass but still allowing anyone outside to see into the property, therefore no privacy.

Fantastic set-up. The Stables conversion has been really well done. The attention to detail and ambiance are fabulous. Nice touch with the art-deco style. Even has a high-end stereo system with great selection of CDs. Breakfast was great - nice choices. Very clean and tidy. Very warm with both fan and gas heating. The location was great for our needs. The property is lovely. Our host was very friendly. Nice having hens about too. We loved the stay.

Nothing to complain about.

loved it all... scenery. natural beauty. aesthetics. furnishings. company. and the pate... the best

Syd was amazing host with beautiful house and such a kind heart, the house was clean and so many nice details ! We’ve also got so many nice useful advices about the travel and tasty coffee ❤️

Great views, the freshest eggs and wonderful soundtrack to the whole visit.

Masser af plads, både indenfor og udenfor. Fantastisk sympatisk vært. Utroligt smukke omgivelser.

Ikke rigtigt noget.

Open and spacious suite with lovely private outdoor space. Stunning views and beautiful grounds and a fabulous host! Easy drive to Hobbiton (perfect location especially if you are doing the Evening Banquet tour). The whole experience completely exceeded all expectations. We loved our stay and just wished we had booked more than 2 nights.

N/A - we loved everything!

Exceptional Host Syd made us incredibly welcome Exceeded all our expectations

Syd made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible despite a tree falling and knocking out electricity and water! A super host!

Wow. Just WOW! What a magical place to stay by Hobbiton. Syd was a great host and bent over backwards to make our stay extra special. This is a fantastic location to stay and enjoy Hobbiton or Matamata. HIGHLY RECCOMEND

Beautiful setting, wonderful host, very spacious & peaceful.

We loved everything.

Syd was the most wonderful host - thought of everything and the stable was in the most beautiful setting. We hope to return again one day.

During all of the travels we have stayed, Shargmor Stable has to be the best. The beauty can not compare to others. It was lovely to have everything we could ever need in our own space. The host is very welcoming and willing to help make our stay more enjoyable. We will be back.

beautiful place and very spacious with a great view . fresh eggs in de morning. Thanks Syd for you drive to Matamata.

Syd our host was exceptional! He made us feel right at home, offered champagne to celebrate our honeymoon, and was so fun to talk to. His home is a master piece, the details in the interior design are immaculate! This private oasis is worth the trip, wish we stayed longer.

location is just amazing , pool absolutely gorgeous on a hot day and the host is just awesome.

Nothing

What a beautiful haven in a glorious part of the world. We stopped over here on a longer drive and could have stayed for days - glorious grounds and gardens, spacious super private accommodation, incredibly thoughtfully appointed with everything you need for brekkie or a quick cook up at your fingertips. The decor is fabulously quirky - a mid century tongue-in-cheek kitsch fest, but comfort is key. You can hang out on site and take in the green serenity or make the easy drive to Matamata and local attractions - great location. Our host Syd could not have been more welcoming. A lovely, individual experience. Thank you, Syd!

How can such an beautiful and amazing place be described? Just go there ! From the first moment, when we opened the door we felt like home and very welcome. There are such a lot of details making this place unique. The view in the morning from the bed, the view in the evening over the valley seemed not to be real. And the the owner Syd - helpfull, kind, also unique and such a positive person. Thanks a lot once again Syd..

Very warm host who had great stories to share. Cosy cottage with thoughtful furnishings and excellent stereo. Beautiful views of rolling hills in the distance.

All off them

Sometimes, while travelling, you meet people you instantly fall in "like" with. That was the case with Syd- an hour after my arrival we were already drinking prosecco at the pool. Syd and I were basically sentenced to each other for 12 nights because of my work schedule, which made both of us a bit nervous, but it worked out great- we cooked together a couple of times, had a glass of wine to decompress, and I even came back later in my travels for an additional night with my husband, just so he could meet Syd and see where I spent two weeks working. The stable itself is also lovely- it is a not-so-tiny house (about 60m2) far away from the main house to give you lots of privacy, especially since you have your own terrace and garden (with plenty of citrus trees- fresh orange juice every morning!). The chickens give you fresh eggs, and there are plenty of bird and bird sounds. The house itself has a very comfortable bed, one of the best showers ever, and a full kitchen, dining area and living room. The washing machine and salt water pool (very special!) are up at the main house, but you're free to use them whenever you want. And the location and views are amazing- the house is located on top of a mountain, at the end of a very long, private driveway. Very quiet overall, and the walk to the main road is perfect for an early morning walk. You'll even get to pet the cows, sheep and horses if you're lucky. Overall, a lovely stay and hope to be back some day!

Absolutely nothing!

Booked this property as it was very close to Hobbiton movie set (10mins) and also close to hot springs, Hamilton and also a reasonable drive to the coast. The reality is that it was such a sanctuary from modern life that apart from Hobbiton we stayed at the property for the entire stay and would have stayed longer. Apart from the house belonging to the host which isn't visible from the bedroom or living room there are no other properties around and the road in is a private road so there are no vehicle sounds. You wake up to the sound of birds and can see them flying about along with an occasional rabbit. This is the perfect place to get away and switch off with a host who is extremely accommodating. Pop over for a glass of wine and a chat in the evening or settle in on your own for some privacy and relaxation. Syd the host also left a selection of useful food and drink items including a loaf of bread and half a dozen fresh eggs from his 3 chickens which were very tasty A super comfy bed and a fantastic walk in shower with hot water and great pressure. Plenty of space inside and private garden outside with a covered patio area. Also open plan garage area for your car so you can load/unload in the dry if it is raining. We would recommend this place to friends and family with no hesitation. Thank you Syd for the great stay Pictures are the view from the bed and patio

Nothing

Syd was a very generous host and we would recommend him strongly to anyone staying on the area.

The location was beautiful, Syd the host is a wonderful person who was also able to drop my partner and I off at Hobbiton and pick up as well. The pool was a delight and the stables are so beautifully unique.

There was nothing that could have been better. Staying only one night would be the only regret.

After traveling around New Zealand for 5 weeks, we award the Gold Medal for Friendliest Host to Syd Workman. He’s a fantastic person full of energy who welcomed us as if we were his loyal next-door neighbors. Thank you, Syd, for inviting us into your home for a drink and excellent conversation. Sharing your love of your home and its beautiful surroundings made our visit extra special. Our accommodations were clean and comfortable. I will never forget sitting out on the patio at night and experiencing SILENCE. Thank you, Syd, for our memorable stay near Hobbition. You are a GREAT host!

We should have stqyed longer.

Gästvänligheten hos hyresvärden och det underbara läget på boendet.

Syd was an incredible host! We wished we could have stayed longer. The property was amazing. The location is absolutely stunning!

Everything!

We stayed at Shargmor Stable for two nights, and it was honestly the best place of our whole trip. The views were breathtaking, the fruit trees around the property made it so special, and every detail showed the love and care Syd put into creating this place. Syd is an incredible host – so friendly and welcoming, with inspiring stories about how he built it all. Now that we’re back home, we still miss the peace, quiet, and beauty of Shargmor. It’s a stay we will always remember.

The location was amazing! We had everything we need to wake up and have a nice breakfast without having to go to a grocery store. I wish we would’ve stayed longer.

Do not be deceived by your first view of this accommodation. You step through the door into a gorgeous property with a lovely view. Very spacious but very homely. Syd, the host, has furnished this property with the same love & attention to detail as his own home. The bed was very snuggly & comfy, especially when the electric blanket was turned on a couple of hours before bed! The property is only 10 minutes drive from Hobbiton- The movie set. A must visit attraction. We could not fault this property & definitely recommend for a couple.

Leaving!

Very friendly owner who welcomed us onto his property where we could walk where ever we liked. Also invited to socialize with his friends who in turn invited us to visit the next day as we were leaving.

Raised directly with Syd.

Excellent location very close to Hobbiton. Eclectically remodeled “stable” surrounded by relaxing scenery. The host (Syd) is a wonderful guy - very entertaining and fun to talk with. His pride of ownership shows.

Awesome little

Nothing

Lovely spot on top of a hill and such a fantastic space more of a private lodge than a room with big lounge and outdoor space not to mention a rain shower big enough for a baby elephant. Soft towels, some home produce left for us and the covered parking make this a 5 star stay and that is before you meet the enthusiastic and very helpful host Syd .

Nothing other than needing a road sign on the drive up (but Google maps gets you right there )

Wonderful, homely property with vegetable gardens and fantastic views of rolling farmlands that transports you back to a simpler time. The host Syd treats you like an old friend and does everything to make sure you enjoy yourselves while at his place. A brilliant choice to stay if you are visiting Hobbiton, which is only 15 minutes away (I recommend the second breakfast tour)!

Everything was made special for us - from the farm fresh eggs to robes to wear. Syd was a host who loves guests - you can tell.

Nothing to say

He had a lovely garden with lots of fruit trees. The lodging was well thought out. you could tell the owner put a lot of thought into making it welcoming. We had fresh eggs and other goodies when we got there and he invited us up to his house for a cocktail and made breakfast in the morning.

there was a storm so we lost power for the evening.

The location, host, design, and amenities were beyond exceptional! We will be booking again.

It was perfect!

The most beautiful views of rolling hills, livestock, gardens, and lemon grove. The bed was very comfortable. Room had a full kitchen and stereo system. It was tastefully and eclectically decorated and furnished. Use of salt water pool was available. Bathroom had an abundance of towels and amenities. The host was very hospitable and friendly.

Nothing worth mentioning.

A little piece of paradise!

Syd, the owner. He is so friendly. He could be a friend if we met longer. The bed, everything

Syd was an amazing host. He made us feel so welcome. We loved everything about this stay and wished we stayed longer. It is one of those exceptional places that feels like you've come home.

There was nothing we didn't love.

A truly wonderful stay! The hospitality was exceptional, with every detail thoughtfully taken care of. The facilities were impeccably clean and well-maintained, and the quirky decor added so much charm and personality to the space. The tranquil outdoor setting was the highlight—waking up to the sound of birds chirping and the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. The views of the hills and open spaces were breathtaking and made for a perfectly serene escape.

Excellent experience, supported by great hospitality from Syd.

Incredible location and views, wonderful privacy, very spacious, tastefully decorated, well stocked kitchenette - the stay was a great experience all around.

The view, tranquillity and the sound of birds first thing in the morning is beyond words. We loved it. The stable is spacious, well equipped and v comfortable. If we had time we would have stayed longer.

Peaceful

Absolutely gorgeous property in the countryside. Beautiful plants and trees, and the facilities and location were perfect for us. Our host was friendly and helpful, eager to make our stay great.

All was good

Syd was extremely hospitable, Mr personality plus! His property is special and peaceful, the decor interesting and furnishings comfortable. We would gladly stay again.

The orchid was awesome. The host was amazing and the kitty was super sweet and friendly.

We couldn’t stay longer!!

Syd was an outstanding host made us feel very welcome, would recommend a stay there to anyone who wants to stay in an exceptional rural based retreat, far exceeded our expectations we will be back .Thanks Syd

Nothing not to like A++++ experience

Beautiful surroundings to wake up to and refocus and not be rushed with life.

That we didn't stay long enough.

Guesthouse with complete kitchen, comfortable furniture and bed, and a fabulous sound system. Sits on several acres on a hilltop with views to die for. Syd, the proprietor, has decorated the place in a highly original, eclectic and artistic fashion. Was sorry we booked just the one night.

Syd is such a wonderful host! The property was gorgeous, and the place itself is comfy and convenient for a visit to Hobbiton. Will definitely return if we’re in the area again.

It was close to the Hobbiton attraction and our host was exceptional, he was really helpful and kind. Very clean facilities, and most importantly a warm place to come back to. We appreciated having the little kitchenette where our host left some bits and bobs for breakfast, which was really convenient.

Perfect and beautiful location! The renovated stable was well done and very nice! The decor was unique and so spacious and comfortable. Best part was our handsome debonair host with the most! He made us feel like family, gave us day trip agendas, and filled us up a bag of fresh fruits from the orchard. His taste is impeccable and he was so fun! Stay here!!!!!

It was perfect! I have frequented b&b’s in the past and this is the best so far!

Love every aspect of it.

Very comfortable & private to stay in. Very much enjoyed free breakfast & variety of fruit in the garden.

This was more than just a room. It was a whole experience! It was so quiet! The location, the decor , and the whole setup of the cabin (we will call it) were just amazing! From the stereo to the TV ,to the fully appointed kitchen and one of the most comfortable beds we have slept in. Syd was a very generous and most welcoming host who added to this experience. Thankyou again, Syd!!

Nothing, really. Maybe a number on the gate?
