It was so interesting inside, lovely and quirky, great outdoor area, spacious room, we stayed in 1, food and staff amazing, it took us a steady 10 min walk to town, it is not steep as reported, would definitely stay here again
All good
Was within 10min walk from railway station.
For over £100 per night I would have liked breakfast included
I liked being able to have free parking on site - the car park is small but I arrived early so all good.
I think when we arrived at midday there could have been an offer to check if the room was available then to leave out stuff in.
The location and price
There were no towels in the bathroom to have a shower or a wash. The toilet was noisy when flushing
Bed was clean with nice white linen.
No breakfast available. Stopped serving food at 8pm. Right beside very busy duel carriageway.
The staff were lovely
It wasn’t very clean in the bathroom The light didn’t work on the mirror and the toilet was very noisy when flushed !
Great location comfortable bed
Was all ok
Sunday lunch was lovely would return for food again! Room was clean bed was comfy bathroom was to an okay standard, overall gorgeous little place beautiful food and an ideal location few minutes from city centre.
Few aesthetic problems bath in the bathroom could to with a bit of TLC ie re- grouting and a good bleach round the sides carpet was slightly stained
Location was ok didn’t have breakfast
Hairdrier and tv remote didn’t work.room needs updating so think was a bit overpriced
Close to town centre and train station
Nothing
It's a beautiful place and the room was spacious and really clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the shower was great. Excellent value for the room! Bus stop directly outside, regular buses too, very helpful.
We had had a long day of traveling and was planning on getting there to eat and settle for the night, but when we arrived just after 7.30pm, we were told that they were no longer serving food, despite advertising that food was on til 8pm, so that really put a damper on our stay as we were too tired to go into town, so never ate that night. Also, a little tip for those slightly older and not too fit people like ourselves, that choose our hotels to be a close walk from the train station, yes, it is only a 10 ish minute walk, BUT its up a very steep hill, so be aware.
The location was good to walk places
We didn’t eat breakfast as had a meal when we arrived and the food wasn’t good old brown lettuce on sandwiches. All our family stayed some of the rooms where ok but unfortunately we drew the short straw we stayed in room 3 it was filthy!! Cobwebs, spiders, stains all on the carpet toilet was leaking. Window wouldn’t open and it smelt very damp and of drains wasnt worth half the money we spent.
Great location near the centre of Durham, basic pub with accommodation and reasonable food.
It was busy with a private party the night we stayed, not a big issue but the 3 very tight parking spaces were taken up. We parked on the quiet street outside, pay by App but free overnight until 8am.
Location
Food
The inside of the cartologist was warm, welcoming and quaint. Although we didnt have a dog with us I loved that they catered and was a true dog friendly pub and accommodation. The beer garden was ideal, catering for all weathers, all clients and a really comfortable and well located place to be. We loved the little beach huts with their individual tv's, heaters and cushions; and smoking allowed
The location of the cartologist was at the far end of a very long and steep road. Being pensioners we were not able to walk to it but needed to catch the bus (of which their was many) in the city center. This could be costly without bus passes.
Room was clean and spacious, very comfy bed, staff are lovely
The food, very over priced, fish and chips were very very over cooked my dad couldnt eat it
Was close to bus stops for travel to Beamish and Kynren Nice park close by
Bathroom facilities require updating Bed comfortable however had a dip in one half TV lacked access to terrestrial channels
Location good
Staff were overworked and too busy to help get a taxi
The staff and manager were exceptional.
The bathroom needs some tlc
Nice place not far from city and lovely pub
员工很nice,虽然在路边,但晚上睡觉好安静,床很舒服,我个人觉得非常好!
Nice room 😍
No breakfast 😢 Even cereals and a toaster. Marmalade and butter. Cup of tea. Jug of fresh milk? Just sayin'! Nice place.
Comfortable, clean, easy to catch a bus right outside and to walk to train station. Easy walk into city center.
The location and the good room size.
Not enough facilities for hanging up towels / clothes in the bathroom.
Bien situé pour la gare
Mais plus bruyant qu'attendu, vu la proximité de grands-routes.
we have stayed here before so we knew that everything was ok here, stayed two nights had a very good and filling breakfast which was needed ahead of a long day at the big meeting followed by the England match. very convienient for everything. free parking is a massive plus, as it is quite rare so close to the city center.
Had lunch and the first day which was mediocre at best. It was the only negative with our stay. Tried to book online with booking.com for next year but there is a massive increase (up around about 80%) This will put us off staying there next year.
Location was ok
The bathroom when you flushed the toilet there was a really loud noise that went on for ages
Bar and parking
Bit pricey but overall great place to stay
A lovely place to stay and relax. It is in a great location, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the pub serves excellent food and drinks. I would definitely recommend it.
While the room was comfortable, it could benefit from some refurbishment, as it is starting to look a little old-fashioned.
Clean room. Nice facilities.
Not really in the town centre. Durham is cut up by a busy A road which you have to get across. Fair walk from the hotel but I suppose most hotels aren't in the town centre. Staff didn't really explain the hotel facilities very well. No toilet roll in bathroom!
Stort rom
Ikke mulighet for frokost
Great location. Comfortable room. Parking quite easy .
I'm afraid to say that the toilet system is very noisy.
location
We had a very poor meal and they gave us 10% discount but it spoilt our visit
The room was amazingly spacious and the hotel itself was really comfortable and relaxed.
Breakfast during the week is not available so that was a little disappointing, and the heavy swing shut safety door to the ensuite bathroom slammed shut with such a loud noise and was quite dangerous when you have a dog that follows you everywhere and is always behind you. We had to constantly think about it and check our dog was not behind us, and hold onto it so it didn't make such a massively loud noise slamming shut.
Super friendly, lovely environment. Lots of different types of spaces to find the best for you. Great dog friendly hotel.
Was expensive but maybe as I booked late.
Helpful member of staff at check in.. Spaceous room.
Shower was a bit leaky.
Good sized room. Short walk from station. Staff had a late delivery of electric fans and so this was welcome on a very hot night
By a relatively main road with bus stop outside - wear ear plugs. Bathroom was a bit tired with uneven lino and mouldy seals. Bed was a bit uncomfortable on one side (only me in the room though so slept other side)
Handy for city centre - 10 min walk, past a park on the way. Fortunately I nabbed one of the 3 parking spaces. Snack lunch there was fine. Room 5 is spacious with a natural light bathroom. Adjacent to a busy road but I wasn't disturbed, although other people might be.
Don't serve breakfast except Fri-Sun. Not a major issue as city centre is close. Room 5 has an astonishingly noisy water pipe when it refills the toilet.
NO BREAKFAST....I was there midweek. Did not like the impersonal way to leave.....Key in downstairs box near to exit door.
Courteous staff. Comfortable room.
Price, as compared to the facilities.
The pub looked really good, the rooms were awful and wet decided not to stay
The bathroom has lots of black on the shower/bath and behind toilet, the carpet in the bedroom wias stained , furniture old and tired, peeling paint, smelt of toilets.
Old fashioned lovely pub Nice room with 2 windows
The toilet flush was crazy loud /but it didn’t spoil my stay
Its convenience to where I was going to
The evening meal was adequate, but I expected a little better quality. The room would have been better with a box of tissues provided.
Overall a very comfortable experience
The noise from the traffic 😕 and condensation on the windows
Great location, friendly staff, great pub and very clean
Nothing
Location is nice & easy. Good size rooms.
Mid week stay. Kitchen last orders 745pm, closes at 8pm. Once checked in no staff after 10pm. No breakfast facilities. Leave key in box on exit as won't see anybody - they open midday. Toilet leaking but couldn't tell them as no staff. Huge cobwebs in toilet. Carpets could fo with deep cleaning. Not worth £100/night cost, more like £60
Great location. Walking distance to cathedral and castle and food.
Rooms are dated but clean. Needs upgrading to modern standards. Overall though I enjoyed my stay!
Price and location.
Nothing.
Close to town centre and bus stops. Free parking.
The price was not good value. The bed was uncomfortable and small, and the headboard was broken. The room had no curtains, just scruffy thin blinds. The room filled with light at dawn so sleeping was difficult. Everything in the room felt cheap. The bathroom had lots of mould and rusty fittings. We would not stay here again.
De prijs. Schoon Prijs/kwaliteitverhouding is uitstekend.
Alles wat je nodig hebt is er en het is schoon. Maar het kan een moderniseringslag gebruiken.
was somewhere to stay quite near stuff i wanted to do
thought it a bit expensive for this hotel
Ideal for a our 1 night stay. Downhill walk into the city. Lovely beer garden and staff were friendly and accomodating.
Rooms were clean but bathroom tiles would benefit from a deep clean and shower screen moves easily causing leak. Wouldn't stop us from returning.
Clean spacious room friendly staff. Location was exactly what we wanted
Evrything .room wad excellent everything in there that is needrd
Nothing my stay was execellent
The room was large, decent, comfortable. Two big radiators to dry wet clothes. Food was great, good price. Location for buses spot on.
Issues with sky sports in the bar, no toilet roll or hand towel holders
The rooms are roomy and have all that you need for a nights stay.
There was a very bad musty smell in both of the bathrooms ( we booked two rooms) and the shower ran boiling hot and very cold continuously and the water spilled out and made a puddle in the bathrooms .
Staff were brilliant, great size comfortable room
Rat at the coal bunker one morning
Location good. Evening meal was very good and at a reasonable price. Staff were very good and helpful. Buses were very frequent into town. Limited car park but was fine for us.
There was mould in the shower. The price of the beer was very, very dear that meant we only drank there one night. The windows weren't double glazed and so road noise was a bit loud.
Great location and really comfortable atmosphere
Bathroom could be better
The gal who checked us in was great, very thorough with directions and took the time to answer our questions.
The bathroom had a strange odor that would not dissipate with the window open or room spray. The mattress seemed ready for a replacement and the carpet needs a good cleaning (or replacement).
Not a chain hotel, comfortable room. Very nice beer garden with heated huts. prices reasonable and staff pleasant and efficient.
Would have liked a fan in the room instead of ironing board.
Classic Pub / Guest house. Very welcoming, quiet good food and beer. Magic !!
Shower hard to control.
Friendly staff
No properly cleaned, not well maintained
Nice pleasant staff
Rusty stainless steel bathroom accessories, black mould around bath. Very basic for the money
Very nice friendly atmosphere, staff very polite and very helpful
Comfy bed
Noisey toilet everytime we flushed and shower was dirty
Food is class
Location
Everything. The key for the room not working had to leave it unlocked after a customer helped open it. Loose electrical lamp. Water tap leaking. Food really unpalatable had to send even ice cream back. The food appeared reheated rather than cooked . Will not be staying or recommending it.
The food was OK
Location not great, room was clean but shabby. Bed uncomfortable, window didn’t close, door key problematic, hallway door handle hanging off
Spacious rooms. Parking. Black Sheep on tap. Only 7 mins walk to centre (10 back due to hill)
Bathroom needs re-decoration. Shower pressure could be better.
Bon Pub-Hotel.
Clean tidy good location
The food was wonderful
I have stayed here for one night for work a few times now. Excellent for my needs as a short walk from train and a friendly greeting from staff. Comfy clean bed and hot water in the shower is all I need for a single overnight and this provides it at bargain price.
Nothing not to like
Every thing
Nothimg
For my visit it was an excellent location but many visitors would have found it a hilly walk from the centre. Room was clean, quiet and comfy.
1) When I arrived there was no-one about, although the bar was open. I called but nobody came for several minutes. A man sitting in the bar with his laptop observed me, complete with my bags. Eventually a woman arrived. After I explained I had a room booked, the first thing she did was speak to the man in the bar and then went to find someone. After that service was excellent, but why didn't the man, clearly the manager, not offer to find someone to help? 2) Breakfast (not included) not available at a sensible time.
Central to city centre.
No breakfast
Very comfortable bed and room, clean and good facilities, friendly staff
Bit of a leaking risk with the shower unavoidably flooding the bathroom floor due to bath and shower seal issue
Close to train station and town
Nothing, I enjoyed my stay and will stay again
The venue was close to where we were visiting.
Cleanliness of room - Cobwebs everywhere Shower head was very dirty/mouldy (husband cleaned it with a wet wipe and it mostly came off, so just needed a good clean) Pipes in the bathroom were noisy and vibrated when toilet was flushed and taps used. The lamps in the bedroom constantly flickered.
Every Thing Paul the Manager Could not do enought to help The food is Top Quaility Would reconmend it To any one just to call in and have a Meal. Will be well impressed!!!
Nothing.
Very good option to stay in the place with nice clean room, good food and excellent live music I highly recommend
