Kyoto Higashiyamaso

I appreciated the warm welcome and introduction to the traditional accommodations, including instructions on how to use the water heater for tea, schedule time in the bath and how to wear the Yukata provided. My stay was during a rainy time in the city, so I really looked forward to the baths at the end of the day. Even in rain, the neighborhood was alive with people walking the streets in kimonos while shopping and eating in the many cafes. The breakfasts were wonderful. The whole experience added to my appreciation of Japanese hospitality and I was sorry that I couldn't stay longer.

What was there not to like? I was looking for their recommendations on where to propose to my fiancé and they simply told me to do it there and upgraded our room to the top floor with a view of the Yasaka Pagoda. They even included a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Any question we had, they had an answer. Giving private access to the bath, the private breakfast, all of it was superb. If you ever want to go off the beaten path and find more local eateries, just speak with the staff and they will lead you in the best direction.

The only thing I didn’t like was that we had to leave.

A good affordable ryokan experience right in the center of Higashiyama! I was able to walk to Kiyomizu-dera and the rest of the town early in the morning to beat the crowds. The breakfast was also great! Staff were extremely helpful and allowed me to leave my luggage after check out. They also helped carry my heavy luggage to two floors up because there is no elevator. Private onsen experience is also great and no issues with reserving my preferred time. There is only a toilet and sink in my own room.

Water in the sink in the room doesn't get hot quickly.

Location was fabulous, clean, comfortable and very nice staff.

Toilets are shared by floor and bathroom has to be booked by time slots. Having said that we had no problem getting a slit and the bathroom was fabulous.

A legjobb szállásunk volt az egész Japán útunk során! Annyira kedves volt a fogadtatás amiben részünk volt. A szoba olyan volt amilyen a képeken. A személyzet saját kezével vitte fel a csomagjaink ami nagyon jól esett. A szoba elfoglalása után vehettünk egy privát onsent a férjemmel. A reggeli mesés volt.

Az volt a legnagyobb baj, hogy csak egy éjszakát tudtunk itt tölteni és nem többet.

O bölgedeki tapınaklara ve turistik yerlere yakın. Ev sahibi ve çalışanlar çok yardımsever . Banyosu ve kahvaltısı otantik ve güzel. Her yer tertemizdi. Düzenliydi. Odada herkese kadar yerel giysiler var. Bunları giyip kahvaltıya ve banyoya gidibiliyorsunuz.

İstediğim saatte duş alamamak. Randevu ile banyo yapmak. Tuvaletin odanın dışında olması.

Bellissimo ryokan a pochi passi dal famoso tempio di Kyozumidera. L'onsen è stata un'esperienza impagabile: mezz'ora (replicabile) di puro piacere! I gestori sono sempre stati molto carini, con un inglese più che buono che consentiva un'efficace comunicazione (cosa tutt'altro che scontata in Giappone). Abbiamo cambiato camera: quella con la vista sulla pagoda era insuperabile! Bellissima anche l'esperienza della colazione tipica

Un pò lontano dalla metro (20 minuti buoni di camminata), ma i taxi non sono troppo costosi e spesso optavamo per il taxi ;-) Purtroppo l'ultimo giorno siamo partiti presto e non abbiamo sfruttato la colazione, nè ci hanno dato nulla in sostituzione (pur avendola pagata)

This experience was top notch. The facility was clean, quiet, comfortable. The staff was so nice and accommodating and upgraded our room for my daughter’s birthday. The Kaiseki dinner was delicious with generous portions. It was a great, traditional Japanese experience. The property was close to several temples. It felt safe to walk around at night. The futon beds were comfortable and relaxing. We loved the hot bath at the end of the day that we had all to ourselves.

Great location, great breakfast and private onsen which you can book for a set slot. The staff were really helpful and gave some nice tips on what to visit locally. Recommend staying here.

We didn’t have an iPhone charger with us and, whilst the staff tried to help us charge our phones, there wasn’t a working charger.

The staff is exceptional. Ryokan is fabulous with premium supplies of Japanese tea and cosmetic products in shower. They have private onsen too which helped me experience that. The staff saw me reorganising my luggage and offered to help which was beyond their job.

Super friendly staffs.so accommodating.wonderful breakfast and very helpful staffs. Great location.Will come back here again.

Immaculately presented hotel with gracious and friendly staff who took a great deal of time and trouble to teach the expected etiquette. Situated 6 minutes walk from a UNESCO world heritage site temple in the old part of the city. It far exceeded my expectations for a traditional Japanese Ryokan. The traditional baths are communal but each guest is allocated a private time slot. Even the breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. I will be recommending it to all my friends.

Ryokan très bien situé dans le quartier de Gion, mais au calme dès la nuit tombée. Le onsen est privatisé, nous pouvons donc y aller en couple. L'accueil est très chaleureux le personnel très attentif, aux petits soins, de très bon conseil chaque soir pour des restaurants que nous voulions typiques. Les tatamis sont doubles, très épais et donc tres confortables En résumé, tout est fait pour un sejour de rêve

This is an exceptional lodging--very convenient to Kiyomizu-dera and other nearby places of interest. The kaiseki dinner is outstanding and worth the extra fee; this might've been the best meal we had in Japan. The onsen for guests is also a great bonus and is included in your booking! The staff are very helpful, knowledgeable. They helped us with shipping our luggage ahead to our next destination and even sent us a shirt we forgot in our room!

Fantastica esperienza in questo Ryokan proprio nella via più turistica e affascinante di Kyoto che porta direttamente al tempio principale! Sicuramente c'è molto via vai durante il giorno, la località e quella zona particolare è presa da assalto da noi turisti ma nel nostro alloggio non abbiamo mai sentito rumore. Il bagno è in comune ma tutto super pulito e ben organizzato; per "fare la doccia" devi prenotare una stanza privata con una vasca fatta in roccia e riscaldata dove possono accedere massimo 3/4 persone (componenti della famiglia o partener) e hai 30/40 minuti a disposizione per poterne usufruire e rilassarti! Non pensavo ma il futon era decisamente comodo e la colazione particolare ma abbondante e davvero buona. Ci tornerei sicuramente e consiglio vivamente l'esperienza per chi vuole immergersi almeno per 1 notte nella vera essenza giapponese. Staff molto gentile e attento.

全体的に印象は良かったのですが、２部屋使用しましたが、湯量も少なくお湯が出にくい部屋と、出ない部屋でした。特に夏ではないので、お湯の出方は大切かと思います。 また、朝食の準備も大変かと思います。もう少し量が少なくても良いのでは…と思いました。

Breakfast was traditional, yet still very nice. Rooms were spacious and clean, together with the private onsens being exceptional. Moreover, the staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating.

Персонал выше всяких похвал: они окружили меня вниманием и заботой, они советовали мне лучшие маршруты для прогулок и помогали с разными мелочами, такими важными в путешествии... Wir hatten einen absolut wunderbaren Aufenthalt in diesem Ryokan in Kyoto und können ihn uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Vom ersten Moment an wurden wir unglaublich herzlich empfangen - das gesamte Personal ist außergewöhnlich freundlich, aufmerksam und hilfsbereit. Die Kommunikation war jederzeit klar, unkompliziert und sehr professionell. Unser Zimmer war wunderschön, sehr gepflegt und bot einen traumhaften Ausblick. Besonders begeistert hat uns der private Onsen, den wir beim Einchecken für eine bestimmte Zeit reservieren konnten – für uns war das perfekt: ruhig, entspannt und ein echtes Highlight unserer Japanreise. Auch die Lage ist großartig: eine belebte Gegend mit vielen Läden und Street food, aber auch tollen Restaurants. Wir waren mehr als begeistert und würden jederzeit wiederkommen. Vielen Dank für diesen besonderen Aufenthalt!

The room, breakfast, and service were all 10/10. However, the public bath is actually a private bath that you can reserve and the view from the room of the Yasaka Pagoda were 20/10! They made the entire trip!

服務人員非常親切又熱情！入住接待時的店員們非常親切，年輕店員細心的介紹了附近的景點，年長的店員還教我們在京都的「你好」要怎麼講，以及隔天早上出發觀光時也親切的介紹了最划算且快速的交通方式。 這家旅館雖然是很傳統的旅店，但用英文日文中文都有人可以溝通。傳統的房間很可愛又溫馨，第一次睡榻榻米房間與在地上的床，每個晚上都睡得很好。 溫泉也很棒，每個房間是有分開時段的，如果會在意跟別人共用浴池的人可以放心。 每天早餐都是不同的日式早餐，都很好吃而且份量充足。 整體來說非常滿意這間旅館！

Struttura e posizione eccellenti con diretta vista sulla pagoda, simbolo di Kyoto. Lo staff era super gentile e disponibile, ci hanno dato consigli su dove andare a fare le foto e a che ora, su cosa visitare la sera e come muoverci. Il ryokan era super tradizionale, super pulito e curato in ogni dettaglio. Abbiamo dormito benissimo sui futon, abbiamo usufruito dell'onsen privato ed è stato bellissimo e super rilassante. La colazione il giorno dopo era buonissima e super bella esteticamente. È stato l'albergo più bello e confortevole in cui siamo stati durante il nostro viaggio in Giappone. Ci ritornerei volentieri anche domani. Grazie per l'accoglienza! Okini!

Nuit parfaite dans l'hôtel. Personnel au petit soin pour nous ! Chambre vraiment très propre et futon très confortable pour la nuit. Le onsen est très agréable aussi. Petit-déjeuner japonais très copieux le matin. Le très gros point positif est le personnel dans l'hôtel qui se plie en 4 pour les clients.

清水房很漂亮，有說中文的服務人員！不會說中文的大叔也很親切。還數了明石帶回來的🐙腳給我們看有10隻👌🏻，也一直教我兒子說日文！

Le bain chaud était incroyable Leur recommandation pour aller se balader parfait, on a pu découvrir des endroits que nous n’allions pas faire. Le petit déjeuner traditionnel parfait et très copieux. Le fait de pouvoir laisser ses bagages est un plaisir. Nous avons également super bien dormi avec une vue magnifique sur la pagode. L’hôtel est très bien situé avec une facilité de se déplacer partout et tout à proximité. Merci beaucoup pour cette belle nuit et ce moment tellement agréable. Encore merci pour le parapluie donné afin que nous ne soyons pas trempée.

Very helpful staff who would do everything to make your stay exceptional. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and plentiful, tasted good. Lots to explore. Steps were a challenge to my sore foot. Very popular area.

Une expérience inoubliable ! Le personnel est très attentionné et nous a parfaitement conseillé sur les activités à faire autour de l’hôtel. Le petit-déjeuner est copieux, la chambre et les bains étaient impeccables. Je recommande vivement cet établissement !

I did not expect the bathroom to be separate from the room. The sink was in the room. For the shower we could book a traditional bath room, which was very good. But adding a toilet near the bathroom would be great. We could not find it.

Absolutely incredible Ryokan. Really felt like we were experiencing old Japan and traditions that we wanted to live. We used the opportunity for the private onsen twice in our stay and we absolutely loved it. The room was laid out for sleep whilst we attended traditional Japanese theatre just down the street, so coming home was exciting. The bathroom amenities in this ryokan were fabulous, body washes, hand washes, skin care, hair care etc The location is perfect for walking around Kyotos old town at night. Gion is absolutely stunning

The only tiny observation/ critique was that when I asked for more coffee for our room I was told no in no uncertain terms! We only stayed one night and were only given two coffee sachets. We had one when we arrived and it would have been nice to have a cup in the morning. It didn’t spoil our stay but hopefully the feedback might mean others may get more if required

Very nice staff, helped us with everything we needed. They even kept our luggage before and after check in/check out. We could also reserve the traditional bath that they had. And the location was perfect, close to everything.
