In a quiet countryside. Jen and Dewi were gracious hosts and chatted about life in NZ. 13 mins drive to dinner in Matamata, so be prepared to drive 26 mins or so back and forth. Beautifully furnished house.

Bathrooms were not on suite but we were lucky there weren’t other guests in our section.

Overall the House with No Nails is more than accommodation it is a place of peace and blessings, the guest is invited into a family and the stay becomes a connection to place, location and Jen and Dewi. Filled with stories of inspiration and encouragement.

Is wonderful definitely one of a kind, our host is the best, most welcoming and listen to their story about this places is just amazed us. Full of inspiration and 10 out of 10 experience! Finding a peaceful sanctuary is a wonderful way to de-stress and recharge your mind and body. The most magnificent, tranquil places designed to ensure your relaxation.

Housewithnonails is a very special property managed by wonderful hosts. Jen is extremely welcoming, provides excellent local guidance and cooks an amazing country breakfast as well as a mean flat white coffee. The beds and bedding are the most comfortable I think I have ever slept in. We used this location as our gateway to Hobbiton.

Absolutely everything from the house to the hosts, the cleanliness, the breakfast and the beds in every room where the most comfortable we have ever experienced. We had the best sleep of our life!

Loved the house and the architecture. Jen is very open and friendly and provided a great breakfast. The bed was very comfy. Very quiet location, needs a car. Handy for lots of locations though.

All was good. If you want dinner at a restaurant though, you will need to drive somewhere.

We had such a wonderful stay after a trip to Hobbiton. The house is beautiful and Jen & Demi were such wonderful hosts, for both us and our three children. They made a fire pit to toast marshmallows and laid on a delicious breakfast spread. Thank you!

The hosts were the best! Bed was comfortable, quiet location in a gorgeous rural setting, delicious food, very helpful hosts with unlimited local knowledge of the history and things to do and see. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Really cool timber frame home with an artistic vibe. Close to the town of Matamata.

Wonderful and generous hosts who provided both food and conversation. They welcomed us into their home and country, offering cultural exchange and a great intro into New Zealand. We loved talking with them over breakfast and dinner, as well as relaxing in the peaceful countryside in their beautiful home.

Amazing concept put together by the owner of the house who built it himself. The house is a perfect blend of form and functionality. House with no nails! We had learnt alot about the building when chatting with Jen. She's such a darling and hosted us with warmth and care. The views were stunning. Couldn't agree more that it's a million dollars view. Star gazing at night was a bonus. And yes, we also spotted the milky way!

Too short a stay!

The house was an absolute treat, and was far enough away from town to feel like you're in the country without being so far away as to be an issue. The hosts were very accommodating of our late arrival, and the breakfast and coffee the next morning were an excellent way to start the day!

Everything from the location, Dowie and Jen's hospitality, is exceptional. The rooms were extremely comfortable with loads of charm. Loved being able to converse with the hosts also.

There is nothing that we didn't love about the house and our stay.

We travelled NZ for a week and this was by far the most memorable stay that we had that trip. The location and the house itself were beautiful, both my partner and I were in awe of how much love and craftsmanship was poured into this place. The owners were beyond hospitable. Offering breakfast, cups of tea whenever they could, suggestions of places to travel to next but most memorable was the stories they shared from their life together raising their children in this home and then sharing it with welcome strangers from all over the globe. This couple have a genuine love for hosting and I couldn’t recommend it more, truely felt like a home away from home or a family you’d be lucky to have.

Staying here was perhaps the standout highlight of my ten days in NZ. Jen and Dewi are the most incredible people with the most amazing stories. I cannot recommend it enough. It really does seem like the housewithnonails is held together by friendship and warmth! When I arrived I was instantly greeted with a cup of tea (important to an Englishman) and we spent the whole evening chatting and catching up as if we’d known each other for years. Please do yourself a favour and stay here! Jen and Dewi thank you ever so much. I will be back.

The property is a unique location with beautiful gardens and views of the surrounding pastures and mountains in the distance. The home is very comfortable and welcoming. The beds were comfortable with warm blankets,the linens fresh, and were a very nice linen material and very warm.

The house is overall so beautiful and cozy, with views to the mountains, and surrounded by green meadows. The beds very comfortable and overall lots of attention to detail (from lighting to pillows). The hosts are so lovely. We had a great time chatting to them over breakfast and Jen gave us so many tips for activities around the area, overall very helpful. We kept extending our stay. :) Can’t wait to be back.

The property was gorgeous. I felt like I was in my dream home! It had so much character and a lovely homely feel. Jen and Dawi were fantastic hosts, so kind and welcoming, we had absolutely everything we needed and I would highly recommend staying there. We had an incredible stay - the hosts were so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, making us feel right at home. The views were absolutely stunning, with peaceful surroundings that offered the perfect place to relax. The location was ideal: a quiet area close to Hobbiton and just a short drive close to town and other amenities/experiences. Must try the tomahawk steak dinner! Overall it makes you feel like it’s a visit to mom and dad’s!

Traveling for me is meeting people living in the place you visit, talk, exchange, and grow from these moments created together So, having the chance to meet Jen and Dewi in their wonderful house was such one of the great moment of my trip discovering NZ for the first time. I loved staying there for two nights, and will of course recommend it to any travelers reading this.

Where do I start? This house is more than just accommodation. It’s like staying with your family. Dewi was a fantastic host who really looked after us. He served us breakfast each morning, showed us places to visit on the map, invited us to try feijoas (which are amazing), and had long conversations with us about the world. All this in a beautiful house that he built. House with no nails is in a perfect location if you are after a peaceful stay with spectacular views of the mountains. For the Lord of the Rings fans, it’s close to Hobbiton and Matamata. We loved it and will definitely be back.

A feeling like coming home, and great recommendations of local sights and activities.

We felt very at ease in the company of Jen and Dewi. Bed linen was very high standard. House and furnishings delightfully unique. A very very special experience

A truly unique home in a beautiful location. We were made to feel very welcome despite arriving late and leaving early. As we were heading to Hobbiton for the ‘second breakfast’ tour we had a light first breakfast of delicious fresh baked bread and homemade marmalade. The views in the morning were stunning with the mist and clouds. We were sorry not to have had enough time to visit North Islands tallest waterfall which is nearby and which you can do and enjoyable hike. Nice to have a reason to come back.

Lovely rooms, clean bathroom and beautiful views. However the best part was Jen! She was very helpful with helping us find things to do in the area and on the drive down. She had a wonderful breakfast for us in the morning and was so warm and welcoming! She made us feel like family even though we stayed only one night. The most picturesque location I could ask for! The most perfect and unique accommodation to stay with my family and friends before my wedding! Incredible facilities for preparing food! A perfectly relaxing environment!

It was amazing. In terms of bathrooms, we had 8 people staying so 2 toilets and 2 showers was enough for us. I'd imagine if 15 people were staying there (which it can accommodate) it would feel like not enough.

From the moment we set foot at House With No Nails, it felt like stepping into a story. Jen met us at the door, like an old friend welcoming us home after a long journey. Right away, we knew—we’d come to the right place. Inside, the kitchen was my favorite. The whole place wrapped around us like a warm cloak on a chilly evening. I half expected to hear the kettle start singing on its own. The beds were soft as moss, the kind you sink into and forget all your troubles. The kids were filled with wonder, looking about, touching everything, eyes wide with delight. But even with all their laughter, the house stayed peaceful, like it had been waiting for such joy to fill its halls. And then there was Jen. She didn’t just give us a place to stay—she shared a piece of her heart, making sure we had all we needed and then some. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home, with the charm of old stories and the warmth of a well-tended hearth, House With No Nails is it. A place to rest, to dream, and to remember long after you’ve gone.

A wonderfully unique experience with our hosts who were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The property was unique and stunning with beautiful views and a fantastic experience. The site is so close to the Hobiton experience plus close to Hamilton for the wonderful gardens plus a very interesting car museum. Plus close to Hamilton is Raglan - a very lovely estuary, sea-side experience. Breakfast at our property was exceptional and the company of our knowledgeable and so welcoming hosts was a wonderful experience and difficult to be repeated.

The whole experience was amazing. We thought we were booking accommodation but ended up dining as well and loved the company of the hosts, and other guests. It exceeded all expectations we were happy and uplifted by the experience. Thank you.

The beautiful house is sitting in a beautiful countryside. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Everything is perfect . The lovely owners, Jen and Dewi, are so friendly. We had a wonderful time.

The Housewithnonails was the most perfect stay, situated in an ideal location overlooking green fields and distant mountains. We arrived in the early evening and were instantly greeted by our lovely host, Jen, who made us feel more than welcome! We honestly felt like we were staying with family. We were offered a cup of tea and given a tour of their beautiful home filled with history and many handcrafted features. Later on in the evening we were offered bikes and went on a spectacular bike ride through the country roads with the sun setting at our backs. The rooms were fitted out perfectly and we awoke to the dining table laden with breakfast foods. Thank you again to our hosts for such a delightful stay, we cannot describe how wonderful this place was.
