The electric blankets as it was very cold.

We were 4 adults. 2 was a couple, but the other 2 was 2 elderly people. Would have preferred 2 single beds in the one room as one of them had to sleep on a sleeper couch in the lounge. That was a bit uncomfortable.

The location was ideal to all anemnities. Full DSTV. The indoor braai. Very neat and tidy.

It is a lovely space. Modern amenities. Comfortable beds. Solar power. Walking distance to the main street. Very responsive host. I'll easily stay there again.

It is a cold house, only heated by wood fires, a gas heater would have been nice. A second /en-suite bathroom would have been nice. Otherwise, all good.

Comfy. Middle of the winter, has 2 fire places and an indoor braai! Self catering, had everything necessary. Great stay!

The place had everything you needed to make you comfortable.

If you go in winter, come prepared for COLD, although the beds had electric blankets, a braai and a very small fireplace, these did little to help keep the cold at bay. Maybe little fan heaters in the bedrooms would make it even more comfortable.

We loved the large house and yard. Our dog travels with us and enjoyed it in the huge enclosed yard. Sutherland is very cold, but this house has two Wood burning stoves (as well as an electric and a gas stove!). There is also a built in Braai inside as well as outside. The electric blankets were welcome. The kitchen has a comprehensive inventory and had everything we could possibly require. Absolutely lovely place to stay.

The little cottage was absolutely spotless and equipped with anything one could wish for. Excellent!

The small things that made it feel like someone had actually tried to live in the house. Extras like tongs and braai salt. Thoughtful placement of shelves, hooks and tables. Plenty of plug points. Honestly, the electric blankets were a life saver! Water was hot and immediate and decent pressure in the roomy shower. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of parking. Very clean. Great communication throughout the process and we appreciated that they were able to accommodate an earlier check in.

Layout was a little odd but we got used to it. The house is quite drafty but it's old. Thankfully there were plenty of indoor fire places and extra blankets. An extra or separate toilet would have been a bonus.

The literally 100’s of mosquitoes was terrible unfortunately and really made the stay rather unpleasant. The beds would be far more comfortable as queen sized.

We really loved the good quality bedding and towels, they was spotlessly clean.

Raka is the perfect choice for anyone visiting Sutherland. It is within close walking distance to several restaurants and attractions in town, and is incredibly good value for money. The house is authentic, very spacious and comfortable - with 2 large bedrooms, a living area with an indoor braai, a fully stocked kitchen, and even has full Dstv. Anneline was a friendly host and facilitated a truly fantastic stay for us!

Key system needs update

The house was great, very clean and the appliances were great. The beds were comfortable and the linen and towels were top notch. The braai room was a bonus with all the equipment required.

Whilst the location was semi-urban with chickens in the coop in the back yard, the two roosters were very disruptive and woke me both mornings of our stay at about 4 am! It was impossible to go back to sleep. WE have two hens in our urban garden in Stellenbosch and regularly get eggs every day. Once they go to sleep, you don't hear them. My suggestion is to get rid of the roosters and keep the hens!

Spacious, and everything we needed. I could have stayed longer there. It felt like home.

Beautiful, 2 bedroomed Karoo house. Super clean, comfortable, and with everything you'll need for an overnight or longer stay. Our hosts sent us lots of information from where to eat, what to do, etc. in Sutherland. Anneline checked us in and showed around the house. Thanks for a wonderful stay. We definitely recommend RAKA!

Geyser suffered in cold weather.

The cleanliness of the unit was outstanding. It is comfortable and has everything you would need for a great getaway.

We arrived in a cold rainstorm and was welcomed to a typical thick walled,high ceilinged Karoo 'dorps'(town) house by a friendly Anneline who gave us all the information we needed and recommended the Blue Moon restaurant where we had a delicious lamb curry dinner before going back to beds warmed by electic blankets.

It was difficult to get the wood stove going to warm the rooms but overall we had a good nights rest and can recommend Raka.

Well equipped comfortable home. Pleasant stay

This house exceeded my expectation. We lacked nothing. I loved the fact that we had an inside and outside braai, a fire pit outside and fireplace inside. The kitchen also has a Cole stove, so will definitely not get cold in the winter. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious with a big shower. There is a carport for your vehicle. We had a lovely stay.

What an awesome spot. Everything needed was there. Great secure parking under cover, loverly braai and a great bathroom.

Communication was very nice & easy. Very friendly Anneline was welcoming us on arrival to hand over keys and explain how things work. Great quite & big place with super lovely garden and enough space also two Braai options, inside and outside. Just around the corner from the main road. Very clean and with a good sense for "design" and all things in the kitchen for your needs.

The house has a modern upgrade on a quaint, well decorated house. It was filled with all the amenities needed to stay for as long as you like!

I know that traditionally Karoo houses did not have any heating. It could be an idea to install some sort of heating on top of the fireplaces for those freezing winter days and nights.

The lady Anneline who met us with the keys and showed us around was very pleasant. The cottage is quite spacious. The kitchen and bathroom have been renovated. The shower is excellent. The wifi is impressive.
