I needed to stay in Lalitpur, and Hotel Himalaya Kathmandu has been my go to place in Kathmandu, best by far. Staff is very friendly, breakfast is good, the atmosphere of the hotel is very nice, surrounded with greenery.
The hotel is located far from the congestion of the city, yet within easy reach of all the sites in Kathmandu. It has a great ambience, intimate and cosy, feels like home. The food was consistently good. And the staff, well cannot praise them enough! Amazing hospitality! Sending all my friends there!
The bathing area was difficult for senior citizens.Climbing into a bathtub, unsafe for oldies.
:: Very central to the main places :: Extremely kind staff and very friendly :: Rooms are spacious and well maintained
:: the pricing of food was a lil too much
The hotel is wonderful and reasonably priced. They let me check in early.
There were parties happening across the room from us every night, with different groups almost daily. It often felt like people were booking the rooms just for gatherings, with food being delivered every few minutes by butlers carrying trays back and forth. The constant noise and lack of consideration from guests made it hard to believe this was meant to be a 5-star hotel experience. On top of that, the hotel hosted two or three wedding functions every other day, which added to the chaos. If you enjoy a lively, party-style atmosphere, this place might suit you. Otherwise, there are far better options available for the same price.
The housekeeping staff were far more professional and better presented than the team at the front desk, which was disappointing for a hotel positioning itself as a 5-star property. The hotel is also extremely noisy and clearly in need of upgrades and better management standards. If they want to market themselves as a true 5-star hotel and charge premium rates, then the overall experience, service, and atmosphere need to reflect that. At the moment, it feels more like a 3–4 star property being sold at luxury prices, which can leave guests feeling misled given the amount being charged.
Location, entrance zone and the room design
I was put off by the state of the room. The bathroom had been cleaned poorly; there was grime on the fittings; the bath mat was filthy; the balcony windows were dirty; the corridor light switch didn’t work; and the bedside lamps could only be switched off by pulling the plug out of the socket. I reported all these issues to the staff, who all sympathetically assured me that everything would be fixed, but no action was taken. Another issue was the events held at the hotel. Because of these, we didn’t sleep at all one night, as workers were banging away with metal beams and electric saws in the garden right outside our window preparing to the forum. The garden is always booked for weddings, forums, etc. This is the first hotel where the staff have simply ignored requests to stop the noise from night-time work. As a result, the noisy work continued all night and into the morning.
Looks like a luxury old style hotel. Staff are friendly, the restaurant is pretty. Food was nice.
The room and bathroom all needs a good update . The property is not close to Thamel area
Outside rooms all are nice.
Rooms very old set up Toilet bowl worst then public toilet.
Professional and caring staff Delicious breakfast and food in general Swimming pool area is a nice refuge from the business of KTM; swimming pool/sauna combined do wonders after time in the hills
When I was staying, there were big celebrations in the garden area on both nights. Both finished by 10 pm or so but it would have been nice to be able to use the garden in the evening.
1. Location was best for me as my relatives and friends are in and around Lalitpur 2. Room standard was as per my expectations both in terms of size and cleanliness. 3. Staff right from the reception till the house keeping were so helpful and courteous. 4. Kitchen and Bar Staff was more than welcoming and so full of warmth. 5. Swimming Pool was upto the mark in terms of cleanliness and hygiene. 6. Overall the property fair mix of modern amenities and greenery.
Will have to stay more to mark them negetive but for now the hotel is perfect.
Centrally located. Amazing staff!
Outdated bathrooms
Excellent amenities and very friendly well trained staff
The rooms are very dated, if it wasn’t for the amenities, this would be 3 star max
We had a mixed stay at Hotel Himalaya. The rooms and public areas are very clean, the garden is well maintained, and the rooms are quiet. However, check‑in was cold and no information about the hotel was given, and we had to ask for luggage help. The room has no bedside light switch or did have a light switch, but it was hidden inside the drawer of the dresser, so we couldn’t know about it because the hotel description was missing , the minibar was empty, and there is no proper hotel guide. Breakfast is very poor, sandwiches are often leftover, and restaurant service is chaotic – orders are often forgotten or only come after repeated requests. Several men in black suits walk around the restaurant and watch everything, which gives the impression that there are far too many staff, and there is no small shop to buy essentials. The hotel is okay for sleep and location, but service and food really need improvement.
The size of the rooms, tge beds were really comfortable, the service, food, location away from the road. Lovely relaxing environment.
There was loud works being done in the property in the floor that I was staying. The hotel wasn’t full so I would have thought the staff would have selected rooms as far away from the works rather than on the same floor and only a couple of doors away. The pool was also quite dirty round the edges, although it was cleaned daily. I think this is just grime from the pollution?
Great walkable location, peaceful, good food outlets nearby
Friendly staff. High standard. Nice and quiet.
Great staff, always remembered names and special requirements.
The staff was excellent and always very friendly. Facilities are also nice, especially the garden - although these cannot be used much of the time due to all the ongoing events every day.
During our stay for one week, there were weddings or other celebrations in the garden just in front of the rooms every day. Since the windows are not sound proof at all, not only the noise from the celebration itself, but also the construction and deconstruction often went until 2am or later. While the common areas are very nice, the rooms and especially the bathrooms are outdated. I would not recommend for business travel.
front desk / concierge staff were great
The property was super welcoming and helpful for a solo traveler. They arranged pick up from the airport, helped me convert cash.
Absolutely nothing. Ideal location and calm peaceful.
Should have been included.
The staff were very kind
The access cards could be better
Good selection for the breakfast. Traditional and continental food are offered. The staff are friendly and eager to help.
The AC is quite too warm. The size of the bed is also a little bit too small.
Das Hotel hat eine sehr gute Lage, die Zimmer werden gerade nach und nach modernisiert. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Große Auswahl beim Frühstück und anderen Mahlzeiten.
The service and the loaction - an oasis in Patan.
The design of our room 511 with two levels.
Excellent facility. Very courteous and friendly staff. Tasty food. Highly recommend
Gym and pool. The views were good too !
Staff are very courteous. My flight was delayed and arrived late night. Hotel ensured pick up. Food is excellent.
Hotel is very nice and well maintained , location is good, and staff is highly attentive. The hospitality is at exceptional level, going beyond the specious rooms and delicious food selection. Furthermore, I was in hotel during the gen z protest and both management and staff showed exceptional effort and dedication to make all guests safe, comfortable and welcome Excellent experience that I would always recommend.

Restaurant staff
Hotel Himalaya is a well-established and well-known hotel, but this was my first time staying there despite visiting Nepal frequently. It truly feels like an oasis — calm, with a lovely garden and a peaceful atmosphere. The location is great: walking distance to Patan and pleasant for walking around in general. The suite was nice, the pool was clean, and the staff were amazing — friendly and welcoming. I felt at home instantly. It’s the perfect place to relax. Room service was good, and while I didn’t try the buffet breakfast, the in-room breakfast and dinners were both very good.
I understand that the hotel is a great venue for events, but unfortunately that means the pool isn’t always accessible to guests during those times, and it can get a bit loud in the evenings. Thankfully, this only happened twice during my one-week stay.
breakfast is awesome; staff were super nice to my little son; garden area is very nice
rooms need a makeover; wlan is always looging out
Very spacious and quiet rooms, extremely nice staff.
Wifi connexion is challenging, especially if we have to attend online meetings.
Facilities aren't even close to a 5star hotel, more like a 3 star Generally 5 star hotels welcome you, this didn't happen here, it felt more like a business hotel Also espresso is charged at breakfast, which is not how most hotels work , even 3 stars
Nice place, friendly people
Pool, breakfast, bar, food, staff
Some rooms are very dated and run down. Not the photos you see online when booking. I think misleading. Multiple options for each room type may reflect this but the differences aren’t described.
The garden is very beautiful!
Guests cannot use the pool if there is a wedding taking place at the hotel and there is a lot of weddings.
Best five star hotel in kathmandu with beautiful views and swimming pool and friendly staff
After nearly a year, I came back to Hotel Himalaya to discover many minor improvement to the hotel. Security improved in card access lift and doorway, a renovated lounge, enlarged outdoor dining, I like it. The room is still clear though not yet renovated. Reception is reasonable. Overall I still enjoyed my stay with my colleague.
Breakfast was a very good selection, I very much appreciated the prepared egg dishes and the cappuccino.
The hotel is being renovated, but still some of the corridors seemed a little tired.
Beautiful grounds and great room and service
I liked the fact that I could walk to Patan square from the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
I switched hotels last year after 9 years traveling through KTM for work. Hotel Himalaya is excellent. Rooms are clean, gym is very good, breakfast buffet is very good, and the staff is excellent. I also like the location as it's close to Lalitpur with many good restaurants. When I bring friends with me they always love being here. It's a great place
Near Patan Dunbar square - new shopping mall - a choice of local restaurants coffee shops. Very popular professional hotel
Good location. Taxi on premises. Local shops & cafe and restaurants. Temples & shopping mall within walking distance. Quiet rooms & comprehensive facilities. Very friendly & professional service.
For breakfast, we had a lovely variety of food and drinks. The staff was quite attentive. The bedroom section of the room was quite large. The outside area was very nice to sit and do work. And the sitting area in the lobby was calming and relaxing.
Laundry was expensive compared to other places in Kathmandu. 100NPR for one pair of underwear to be cleaned. And then the laundry was mixed up. I received someone else's shirt. My roommate lost two pairs of underwear. The bathrooms were rundown and had evidence of mold. Beware of the powerpoints, as some spark as you insert your plug. And some powerpoints are not very tight and secure, some plugs were pretty much hanging half in and half out.
I've been staying here on visits for the past five years and the experience has always been a good one. I had a small suite located at a corner of the building and could see the Himalayas out both windows whenever the weather was clear enough. Bed was comfortable and the large desk was a pleasure to use. Wi-fi was strong and internet connection was fast. Hotel restaurant remains a good choice, although somewhat expensive by Nepalese standards. On the other hand I have never gotten sick from eating there and that has some value as well. Certainly will plan to stay here again on my next trip to Katmandu.
I loved the breakfast buffet, the space in the lobby, outside seating was nice, especially in the sun. The beds were comfortable. I enjoyed housekeeping making our beds every day and offered fresh towels whenever we needed. The staff were exceptional!
Some of the wall plugs did not work, and had some sparks which made us feel worried.
Very comfortable en super friendly and helpfull staff
Great location
It can be a bit noisy when there are events in the garden
We enjoyed our one week day at Hotel Himalaya and had excellent service in housekeeping, restaurant, front desk, and concierge.
Great location
It can be noisy due to parties and celebrations
Large rooms, good breakfast, nice pool and grounds
No comment
Efficient check-in. Staff very polite and helpful. Gardens well kept.
The hotel was quiet and accessible to booked tours. The room and public spaces were clean. The staff were courteous and accommodating.
There was a little construction going on but not that it impacted our stay.
I used by credit card for hotel booking using Booking.com site, opting for the pay at hotel option. After I checked out from the hotel I was notified by my bank that my card was compromised and transactions for more than USD1000 was attempted on my card. My bank was on to it and intercepted all fraud attempts and cancelled my card. I'm quite confident that my card was compromised at the Himalaya hotel, because I don't use it very often. When I submitted my card information to Booking.com it was passed to the hotel (to guarantee the payment) according to a Booking.com customer service representative. That's how the hotel staff have gotten access to it in the first place. The integrity and business ethics of the hotel staff needs to be improved, until then I don't think I will stay in that hotel again.

Location
9/10Good central location for Lalitpur; convenient entrance zone and overall placement praised, though not very close to Thamel for some travellers.
Room Quality
7.4/10Rooms are dated and in need of updates (especially bathrooms); outside rooms and room design are appreciated by some, but overall room fittings and bathroom condition received several negative comments.

9.3/10Strong amenities: swimming pool and sauna praised as a refuge and kept clean; garden and event spaces exist but are frequently used for noisy functions which impacts enjoyment.

9.4/10Positive: breakfast described as delicious and food generally praised; kitchen and bar staff receive strong compliments.
Overall Experience
9/10Mixed-to-positive overall: guests praise staff, pool and food and some call it excellent and would return, but frequent noisy events, night-time work and dated rooms/bathrooms reduce the experience for others.
