Beware of this hotel. I booked a refundable reservation two months prior to the date. I had to modify the reservation to a new date. The hotel changed the refundable conditions to non-refundable and charged me a several hundred cancellation fee. Luckily, Expedia saved the day and returned my full amount. This hotel is unfriendly and inflexible.
The property is lovely. The room was surprisingly outdated though and nothing special, no real effort in furnishings or design.
Love this place and super convenient! Highly recommend. Kid friendly and very walkable to all local spots.
Everything was great!
We had a great time.
Everything was great, convenient and just as shown/described online.
This trip was amazing. I did have to book tonight separately, but my main room was balcony was everything! Definitely worthwhile! I was able to enjoy the pool, the food, and above all, the location! The rooms were comfortable, the showers were perfect, and the staff was great!
Nice pool area and really walkable to everything in the center of the city.
Everything was nice and people were very stand polite
Hotel didn’t try to make the stay welcoming. The pool was covered till 10am or later, so no early swimming. Bar not open most hours or days. Room stunk a bit, because of sewer gas, they had covers over drain to help, but it didn’t help. Location was great and place was pretty, but wouldn’t stay here again.
It was a great stay in the perfect area. I would stay here again
Great location. Service is great. Would definitely stay here the next time we visit oaxaca
Hotel de la Parra was excellent in many ways. It was off season so we enjoyed quietness and the service. Swimming in the pool was tranquil in the hustle of busy city center. Ever staff was cordial and responsive. Our room was air conditioned so we were able to relax and enjoy the stay any time of the day. We enjoyed excellent breakfast offered at the courtyard. All in all, we would reuse the hotel next time we visit again.
Loved the courtyard with the pool. So tranquil .. but the sun is only there mid day because it is a courtyard of an old building. You can order drinks out by the pool but staff were a bit slow. So quiet and close to the Zocalo. It was our second time staying here. Comfy beds. Great find.
The hotel gets a one star review because it provided a room with no window (for $300/night). We arrived late and were given a room with no window or other source of natural light. It was like a large and claustrophobic cupboard. The next day we told the manager that the hotel should not be letting such rooms. In many countries it is illegal to have a bedroom with no window, for amenity and fire-safety reasons. The manager provided only excuses ("many hotel rooms in Mexico have no windows", "It's an old building and hard to convert", etc). We asked for some compensation and a change of room. An alternative room had a very small opaque window and little light. It was poor value. We found a better room nearby at half the price, but the hotel refused to let us move out. We were eventually provided with better accomodation (no compensation for the inadequate room). The hotel also does not meet Mexican fire safety regulations because it has no signs showing fire emergency escape routes.
Lovely country style hotel right in the heart of Oaxaca. Beautiful swimming pool. Great breakfast. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
It is on a quiet street. The swimming pool is great after being out in the hot sun. The staff was really wonderful— very helpful and always friendly. All very clean. Doors could be wide open and there were no bugs. The one somewhat annoying thing was Ave Maria blasting from a nearby church at midnight every night, and other music at 6 am.
Nice hotel, staff, comfortable I would suggest adding handle bars to the shower room would be nice and safer.
Very cozy property, that took me back to the memories of my early childhood at my grandmother’s house. Nice pool with shaded area. Beautiful religious paintings.
The hotel is in a great location, 1 block from the zocalo, on a quiet pedestrianised road, so minutes from restaurants, bars and shops. Staff were very friendly, helpful and informative, dealing with minor requests promptly (light bulb replacement). Although our room was compact it had plenty of storage (something we found challenging elsewhere in Mexico) and was clean and comfy. We had large patio doors to a small balcony that gave light, but really needed some sheer curtains for privacy, and the main curtains only just covered them. Breakfast was good and generous in a nice courtyard setting. We would definitely come back.
Super nice boutique hotel right in the middle of the city. Wonderful staff and very nice rooms and pool.
My wife and I stayed here for eight nights in March and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is very centrally located in historic Oaxaca, but it is a peaceful and quiet place. All the staff were wonderful from Jose at the pool bar to Flor and her colleague who made us wonderful breakfast every day and the front desk staff who was helpful in every way. The central pool courtyard is a relaxing space and is usually not very busy. The hotel arranged for transport to and from the airport and also had recommendations for dining and sites to see. I would definitely stay here again on a return visit to Oaxaca.
Fantastic location, half block to square and cathedral Pool area was outstanding Unique and peaceful with an excellent bartender
We were very comfortable in a well appointed standard room with king bed, good bathroom with rain shower, coffee maker, good temperature control, and quiet. While the room was equipped with good lighting, the natural daylight was dark. Just go out the door to the lovely pool to spend time. The hotel is well located to zocalo and is within 6 block walk of everything interesting in Oaxaca. The staff takes special interest in helping guests - we were unable to get a table at Casa Oaxaca, but the hotel called them and got us a table. Highly recommend Hotel De La Parra.
H
We loved the location and style of the property. Everything clean and well maintained. The pool and hospitality areas comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms on the second floor were comfortable and well equipped and clean. There is comfortable outside of room areas to enjoy. The only negative comment is that…one couple of our group was at first in a main floor room that was noisy and very compact. It took a few days for the hotel to accommodate a room change….our reservations forJunior suites for our Feb stay were made in August 2024 .
Fantastic hotel. I absolutely loved it. Excellent service. Right in the heart of things but quiet.
Location
Great place and perfect location. Wonderful staff
A really well-located hotel in Oaxaca's centre. It's a short walk to loads of brilliant bars and restaurants and felt very safe. I'd recommend exploring a little further out of the centre too. Though there was a bit of noise from the city the hotel was really calm, with a relaxing pool area. The bed was comfy and the room was cleaned really well every day, The staff were very friendly and attentive. Great stay.
Excellent
I had been to Oaxaca many years ago and the hotel we used to stay at was out of business. My criteria was: proximity to the zocalo, pool, and cost. The staff was extremely helpful.
We had a great stay. Great location. Walking distance to all. Beautiful property.
Very quiet and serene atmosphere in the very centre of the old city. The staff are impeccably helpful and courteous. We were in a spacious and comfortable room, but I am aware that some of the rooms, though spacious, have no significant windows and could potentially feel claustrophobic. Not ours, fortunately which was perfect.
Really nice choice, depending on the room you choose. Some rooms are right on the dining courtyard and you will hear everything from inside as the building is stone with no insulation. That said, you will not hear any street noise. Pool was a huge selling point.
This hotel was not my first choice, but we were pleasantly surprised and very happy. Pros: Great staff and customer service; reliable; clean; location could not be better next to main square; great breakfast; small and not crowded (felt like it was our house); easy; relaxing pool (mostly had to ourselves). Cons: small beds (doubles); shower head not great; can be noisy if you sleep in. Overall, very happy.
Great location! It’s a half a block from the bustling Zócalo but the room was surprisingly quiet. Very pretty boutique hotel and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We had breakfast in the courtyard every morning and the front desk staff helped us arrange several trips to local designations. I would absolutely go back to this hotel and would recommend it highly.
The staff was excellent. Room was a good value. Hotel is well maintained and is right in the center of Oaxaca. Lots of attractions within walking distance. The hotel restaurant (breakfast) and bar were excellent.
The only thing I didn't like was that the room they offered was stuck in a corner, maybe next time I will request another room near the pool... or on the second floor.
They just need to provide slippers since the floor is very cold
Very average property. Nice small pool area surrounded by high walls. Fair gradens around the pool. Rooms are average. A little dated and tired. Staff couldn’t have been nicer. Helpful, pleasant to deal with. Took care of all my requests completely. Breakfast area was pleasant with excellent service.
The hotel is l
Very nice hotel with amazing staff. The location was perfect for exploring...and as a bonus, the pool area was a fantastic place to come back to each day!
I really liked this place. Perfect location, friendly staff, beautiful property and room. I wish the balcony wasn't sealed off, but that is a minor issue. Be warned there's no elevator.
Great staff, very clean. Room was a bit small but was comfortable and clean.
Hotel de la parra is perfectly situated on a quiet street close to the main square. The staff is super friendly and helpful with scheduling a taxi pick-up for our red-eye flight. They were right on time. This really is one of the best deals we've seen in Oaxaca city! We had the suite with a large bathtub and huge bathroom. Also slept like a log in the king sized bed and comfy pillows. I would definitely stay here again.
The property is super well located in the city's heart and close to fine dining, touristic places, and museums. I liked it very much. The staff is professional, efficient, diligent, always there to help you, and very kind with a great smile. Food is excellent and home made, it feels like you are at home.
Great hotel service and perfect location. Right in the middle of everything!
Clean and well managed hotel in a beautiful historic building right in the heart of the historic center.
Very nice hotel with comfortable bed and nice interior courtyard for some peace in a pretty loud city if you come in high season. Staff very nice. Good breakfast area and food
The hotel is very nice the staff is pleasant
The entire property was great, staff very attentive, very professional, jose the bartender was amazing, great customer service.
The hotel is quaint and charming. I loved the “old world” charm of the hotel. The pool area and the breakfast courtyard are simply beautiful. The hotel is quiet, so great for sleeping. Staff is very helpful. The breakfast is delicious. The location is perfect, very walkable to all the great restaurants and market in center. I would love to visit there again. I highly recommend this hotel.
Property is nice and I love what they stand for. However, I had to check out of this hotel and book a new one because the beds were so uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep all night. Beds were hard as rocks.
Property was nice and clean. Staff was friendly but we had an issue with misinformation given to us by the staff for a taxi ride to the airport. We were quoted one price upon reservation and when we reached the airport we were given another price (much higher). The taxi driver called the hotel and the front office lady told us the price quoted to us was a mistake by the other worker. Not professional.
One block from the main square (Zocalo) and the Cathedral; a short walk to the Santo Domingo Church (and museum in the Convent next door) and to the Ethno-botanical Garden.
Excellent hotel! Staff is friendly. Facilities are well maintained. Nice little retreat a walking distance from the Zócalo and mercados. Highly recommend it!
Wonderful staff/ service.
Veronica Díaz at front desk took excellent care of us and was always available to make recommendations for restaurants and other attractions. She has a big heart and is a real sweetheart. NoritaVlach
I loved the ability to come back to the hotel in the afternoons and swim and have a nice little drink and relax
Good
Wonderful stay great location
Friendly staff and beautiful grounds. Staff was fenomenal super kind and acomodating.
Perfect staff!. Cant beat the location. Right next to the zocalo. Room was comfortable, had ac. Would highly recommend
Great and friendly staff. Super cool historic building.
Outstanding 9 day stay. We had the Master Suite which was a great size. Room had a great air conditioner - we were very comfortable. Here is the key discriminator for me on this hotel - THE POOL. Pools in the downtown area are hard to come by and our travel partners were all envious of our pool when it came to the 2 hour break before dinner! Staff is awesome. We had breakfast in the restaurant most mornings - very good, prepared from scratch, and portions are significant. Location is great. The area centered around the Zocalo (around the corner from the hotel) and Santo Domingo church (10 min walk) is the epicenter of tourist activity IMO. One thing to share that is unique to Oaxaca. For the past several years the Teacher's Union goes on strike 15 May for several weeks. The strike consists of road blockages in the Zocalo area because they set up hundreds of tents on the streets. There is very little noise from the group and some say it's less noisy overall because of the lack of cars. When you look at the group - they are what they say they are - TEACHERS with their kids. We would prefer there not be a strike but the strike was pretty much a non-issue. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Expedia won't publish my comments.
Best place to stay in Oaxaca. Worked from there for a week it was magical! Water pressure was great!
Booked a Junior Suite and was upgraded to a Master Suite. The room was a perfect size for my husband 12 year old daughter and I. They have noise proof glass windows which were a big plus as the hotel is on the main zocalo square and is very noisy. The garden and pool are very pleasant and tranquil. You don’t feel like you are in the hustle and bustle of downtown Oaxaca. The staff are very pleasant and most speak English. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Oaxaca. It’s in the perfect location!
Booked a junior suite and was upgraded to master suite. Very nice room. Noise cancellation windows were a big plus as the hotel is on the zocalo and super noisy at night. The pool is a very tranquil. You feel like you are in a quiet garden not the busy hustle of downtown Oaxaca. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Most speak English The hotel is old and like most places in Mexico has trouble with water and sewage, but overall would highly recommend the hotel. It’s in the perfect location.
The hotel was wonderful, small, with two beautiful courtyards, close to the Zocalo (the center of town) on a street with no traffic. The staff was also wonderful. We loved every minute there.
Everything about this property is quite nice except room 104 which has no window or natural light and feels like a cell. The staff is gracious and giving. The pool is very fine and the breakfasts are good. It’s just room 104 which was claustrophobic but rooms 108 and 109 are excellent
Great place and helpful people
Service was excellent and all the staff were super helpful. Shout out to Jose for his service at the bar. I would highly recommend this location
A lovely boutique hotel built in 1690. Very nice staff. But some plumbing problems that seemed to be hard to fix. Overall a very nice reasonably priced hotel right on the Zocalo
The rooms had a cockroach infestation (coming from the drains) and smelled like sewage. The first 2 days we didnt have any running water. The evening front desk people didnt speak a word of English. I would not recommend this hotel!
It appears to be a very old building, but everything has been restored to original condition and the room was impeccable. There was an issue with my reservation (I had paid in full for the entire stay for the best room in the facility, but I was told that because “I cancelled “ the room was given to someone else.they were very apologetic about the mixup, but I never got the room I wanted. They did refund the difference.
This is a lovely little hotel in a great location just off the main zocalo or square in the city of Oaxaca. We stayed a week. The people who work here are very friendly, kind and some but not all speak English, but they will use Google translate and do everything they can to help you. They are the BEST part of the place. They booked taxis and tours for us, all at good price, great guides. They were happy to move our room when the first one was too noisy. They are constantly cleaning, so the place is immaculate. It was a restaurant where we had a good breakfast. If you book, ask for a room away from the kitchen and main courtyard where any noise or speaking echos at all hours. The cons are: the beds are very hard, and the sheets- although look nice and are sparkling white, are rough against your skin. Also, there is soap, shampoo and conditioner, but really poor quality so your hair still feels dirty. If you bring your own shampoo and pillowcase, and take a room on the upper floors, then this is a great place, but pricey for what you get. (Twice the price of a four star in Mexico City.)
Very clean and very friendly staff.
Very helpful and attentive staff. Very good room, convenient location
Francamente yo no volvería a llegar ahí.
Had to change room because of ants in our bed, and they only had a room with 2 small beds.
Our flight was cancelled by AeroMexico, but the Hotel Boutique de la Parra refused to provide even a token refund. We had booked a five night stay, but our flight was cancelled on the day we were to arrive, but the hotel would not provide us with any refund, even for one night. This is not the way to win customers.
The room was clean, but small and very dark. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent and the drain was clogged-the floor would fill up to your ankles while you tried to shower. Positives: Staff were friendly, Breakfast was incredible, Pool was nice. Room was quiet
Great find, Pool & courtyard perfect for afternoon break from touristing. Only one minor flaw: the towels are a bit scratchy.
Beautiful building but… Expensive for what you get. Noisy in some rooms. Shower didnt drain. Pool area needs better chais and some chair cushions were dirty. Not accurate info about airport shuttle. Staff was friendly.
The hotel is ideally located by the zocalo, near restaurants, the marketplace, and sites to visit. Everything is an easy walk. The hotel has a lovely courtyard where breakfast is served and another courtyard where there is a pool and bar, ideal for when the afternoon gets too hot. Service was friendly and polite and check-in and check out was prompt and efficient.
Great hotel with a lovely pool in the heart of downtown right next to the Zócalo. Staff was incredibly warm & helpful.
As first-time visitors to Oaxaca, we loved the central location of Hotel de la Parra and the easy walking distance to the main plaza and sights. The staff was warm and friendly, helping us with airport transportation and the like. Our bed was super comfy! The hotel is in a beautifully restored building in the historic core. Highly recommend.
All staff are friendly, well acknowledged and always willing to go the extra mile to help guess.
The entire staff were very helpful and nice.
It was my first time in Oaxaca and choose this hotel because of the location and previous reviews. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very well maintained. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Doña Flor in the kitchen made us delicious breakfast to order each day. Edna and Veronica in the front desk were the best. They were always available to us and suggested local places to visit. I highly recommend this hotel. The pictures do not do justice!
Like many small boutique hotels this is a converted hacienda with only 13 rooms The rooms are not large but was perfect for the 2 of us The remodel done looks recent and well done with modern amenities (like a/c) while keeping old charm 1 block from the Zocalo The staff was great Pricing possibly on the high side but everyone’s budget is different Breakfast was included, but was just OK I would definitely return
A nice stay here, however a few things…at this price they REALLY need to upgrade the crappy towels. Also they really GOUGE you with taxi ride prices to and from Airport. Don’t do it! Just get your own taxi which costs a third of what the hotel charges you. Lastly, breakfast was decent, but staff very absent minded! Everyday I had to ask for cream for my tea several times and toast as well. Otherwise a nice stay, centrally located
Great location but Hotel needs new towels! For this price they should be able to afford them. Also they gouge you on rides to and from airport. Just get your own taxi! Rip off. Helpful staff and decent size room but wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place
doors have no locks, no deadlocks, very easy to break into rooms, don't go as solo traveler, furniture in room old, no elevators, room on rooftop after 4 flights of stairs. ship this hotel, pics look great online but very old in reality.
The staff is super friendly and helpful, the historical, colonial construction is quant and beautiful, and our two bedroom suite was comfy, spacious, and surprisingly quiet given that we were so near the Zocolo during the Day of the Dead week of festivities. The location is ideal and central to everything in the city. I definitely recommend this boutique hotel and would stay there again.
What a great hotel. Stylish common spaces and pool area (with bar!), clean room with high ceilings and modern bathroom, and the absolute best staff. I was a total dumbdumb and messed up our arrival time for our transfer and the staff called and worked it out. They gave great recommendations for places/neighbourhoods to go for Dias del los muertos and greeted us like friends every time we came back “home”. Would absolutely stay again. What a dreamy hotel in the middle of a wonderful city!
Lovely property and very friendly staff. Would stay again!! However no communication that we had paid for and had included breakfast every day so missed out on that and the air-con did not work, it was very hot!! As I said in saying that it was still a lovely stay!!
