Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The hotel is old and must have been grand once. It’s quirky due to age as you can expect. I could smell dog when I went into the reception. There is no parking. The rooms were ok, the bathroom was squashed and was really old and tired. there was a previous guests dirty sock under our bed. The games room was shut, breakfast was good.
It’s old fashioned and slightly shabby but good location and staff were lovely. Back rooms were quite noisy because of bus terminal. Worthing is nice.
Business trip for one night. Room was comfortable, breakfast was great. However, the best part was when I desperately needed to work and print some documents ready for a presentation, I was having a terrible time getting everything to work. Member of staff on duty Patricia looked after me amazingly, coffee, helped me find cable etc....above and beyond, excellent service, thank you Patricia for turning a bad day into a better one !
Great location and very pretty from outside. Some rooms at little dated and in new of TLC, but would still use hotel again.
The hotel is dated but fairly clean. The room had a great view but the TV didn’t work, only 2 out of 4 windows opened. And there was no mention of the walk up and down stairs on uneven floors to get to your room.m, not ideal for those with disabilities.
Having booked a family room that can sleep up to 5 people, I was disappointed to find that you have to pay for additional guest if there are than two guests. We did the right thing and paid, but then there wasn’t enough towels in the room for the additional guest. With the room being so far away from reception, we decided not to walk back and get a towel. There should be spare towels stored inside the wardrobe to avoid the inconvenience. The stay was otherwise pleasant and I slept very well.
Wife suffers from sleep apnoea and needs oxygen during the night via a machine that needs plugged to mains electricity. No plugs near the bed (which is fine) but flat refusal when she enquired about the possibility of borrowing an extension. Not quite life and death but not helpful. Managed to source extensions in hotels globally but not here. We have now decided to take our own. Don’t know why I didn’t think of this in the first place! Nice breakfast though.
Lovely hotel and great staff! Would definitely staff there again
The hotel was in a good, central location abs our Superior Room ? came with a direct sea view. However, the bathroom floor was steeply sloping which was disconcerting. The electric shower had a very weak flow abs and was horribly noisy when in use. There did not appear to be any hot water in the bath taps. The wall mounted tv was tiny. The hotel was definitely in need of renovation.. and was quite shabby in several areas. Breakfast was very good and service was excellent...
The room arranged to us has a noticeably steep slope in its structure, which made it feel really disorienting. The exhaust fan was incredibly loud and vibrated a lot. Using the bathroom felt like being on a boat. As soon as we stepped into the room, we felt dizzy, and the feeling lasted the whole night. We chose to stay out and returned to the room at late night. It was an uncomfortable stay overall. Perhaps, other single rooms are better which we didn’t know. BTW, the service of the restaurant is good.
Location and availability is good, book early. Parking convenient, right by the beach, not far from shops, bars and restaurants. (Suggest Heartbreaker for good cocktails).
We stayed in an economy twin room, for one night, which was very clean and in a quiet location towards the back of the hotel. We were not bothered by noise from the bus station. The shower had a strong flow and quickly ran hot, which is always a plus. The full breakfast was included in our room rate and was good including local sausages. All staff were very welcoming and friendly. For us the hotel had a bit more character and quirkiness than some of the bland chain hotels. We enjoyed our stay.
The room didn’t had a levelled floor.I always thought I go downhill. Toiletteris been a soap dispenser on the wall. Dryer was hidden in a draw.
Whenever we are going to Worthing we always try to stay at the Chatsworth Hotel. We like it's location being near to the pier bus station and cinema. Some say it is a old fashion hotel but we like it that way.
Continental breakfast poor value and choice; television very poor; no BBC; small; other channels flickered in and out.
Very tired, needs refurbishment. Breakfast was poorly staffed and not very well thought out.
The staff were great and very helpful. Patricia and Monica were especially helpful. Gave us great assistance in many different areas. have a new word we use now "chunkybit". great stay will be back
Decent value...great location. Tired hotel but did the job
great looking hotel from the outside, but very dated in the room, my room was on a tilt and the bed mattres was so lumpy and uncomfotable, the walls were thin and heard everything
Asked for two singles, so took a back of the hotel room to accommodate this to find two singles together with no room to separate them, so a double really with separate quilts. The back of the building is by a bus depot so if you opened the window it was even noisier. Not impressed for £96.
We stayed on the top floor which is very quirky with sloped floors and the furniture cut to the shape , its very clean, the breakast was very good value for money and the staff are lovely and helpful, it was quiet and you didn't know your neighbour was in until they slammed the door coming in , if I was to change anything about this hotel it would only be to paint and decorate it , it needs a little tlc but all in all a lovely place for a base in the lovely Worthing.
I'm afraid this property is very dated none of the floors are level, they are all slanted due to the age of the building. The rooms are extremely dated, the bathroom are from the 1960s. Our bed was on an angled floor, meaning are feet were higher than our heads. The hotel needs extensive renovation and the price is too high for what we paid for.
A very comfortable and enjoyable 3 nights stay at the Chatsworth. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast. Fantastic location for both beach and town centre. Very good value, would definitely stay again.
As WE ARE IN OUR 70s the room was not suitable for someone of that age as the stairs leading to the room had a very bad slope ands my partner nearly fell this was also the same in our room , which was all very hot even when I was able to turn the radiator down
Convenient for our start stay. Would stay again.
Lovely room. Great location. Helpful staff.
The hotel is tired and in need of refurbishment. It was not worth the £102 I paid for a nights stay
We were recommended the hotel by a local friend. It’s tired. We were upgraded to a garden view room- noisy with the road and the lifts and a bed with springs that need replacing. The shower was a nightmare to off and the batteries in the remote didn’t work.
Bed uncomfortable couldn’t turn the shower off the room needs a make over
Only stayed overnight comfortable beds . The water pressure of shower was poor .
The hotel is in an excellent position, by the seafront. We were only in Worthing for 18 hours as we attending a wedding & so did not use much of the facilities. We arrived earlier than our check-in time but the desk staff & housekeeping were extremely helpful in allowing us to freshen up & get changed. The building is old & perhaps a little dated for some tastes but the things we look for in an hotel is clean bedding & a spotless bathroom. Both of these the Chatsworth delivered. The parking outside the hotel is limited to a maximum of four hours but there is a large multi storey car park about ten minutes walk away. The hotel can give you a discount code if you use it
This was a short break. The hotel is well situated close to the seafront. Parking is on street but lots available around. Friendly staff. All that we needed.
This Hotel would have been beautiful when it first opened. However, the interior was very dated and our bathroom was covered in mould.
Superb location, and superb breakfast. Hotel now a little tired. Staff very helpful
Stayed here before, the location is ideal for shore, shops and bars. The bath in our room was around 6-8 inches above floor level so a step in and out for some. The bathroom pull cords showing their age and could be replaced (or made to a wall switch). The room was comfortable for our short stay and if we were here longer I’d opt for the larger room. Parking outside is possible but there are carparks nearby of a 5 minute walk if it’s busy. Staff are great, and welcoming. Didn’t take up breakfast but on previous stays we have enjoyed the options. Will be going back.
Our family had a delightful stay last night at Chatsworth Hotel. Eva was wonderful in settling us in and assisting us with storing our 5 bikes safely. A beautifully maintained and clean hotel room with a lovely view of Worthing Pier. A convenient position near the seafront and easy access to the town centre.
The Chatsworth is a dated hotel, though it is clean it is quite tired. I booked morning breakfast at the front desk on my arrival and was then challenged several times if i had or not paid for this I then had to wait until this had been clarified only to find that lo, then go through it all again following day as the same thing happened .
Poor service and dated
Had a great stay
Parking is a little difficult. There are spaces on the square but limited and need to be paid for until 6pm. The hotel was clean and the staff very helpful. No curfew so you can come and go as you please. Room was clean and well presented. View wasn’t great but that can’t be helped. Lift is a little small and only one was working.
A town centre hotel reasonably quiet with excellent staff. The hotel is clean and our room was very good. It is, howver, rather old and certain of it's facilities are tired and access to some rooms difficult for elderly customers.
Unfortunately our room was at the back of the hotel where we heard every bus reversing into to the station. It was the little things, the room layout was most odd , the angle of the wall mounted the TV, no milk jugs at breakfast or fresh fruit and last but by no means least no Prosecco at the bar! On the whole this hotel, despite being clean enough and breakfast being tasty, needs a make over
The hotel is across the road from beach The staff are the best part of hotel Had ocean front room Carpet need replacement urgently Shower was terrible 😩 Bathroom small i could go to toilet wash my Hand clean my teeth all at once and what the go with pull a cord for the light . Tv didn't work no iron or fridge or anything Mexican around corner was great . No washing facilities
Room was very clean. Great sea view and spacious. Staff member on the day of booking in and the afternoon shift were very helpful.
We paid £166 for a room that was basically unfit for purpose. You had to access it via a staircase that was dangerous as it slanted to one side. The floor in the room was also slanted and furniture had to be cut off to make it look level. The slanting floor made me feel ill and I felt unsafe when going to the toilet at night .The lampshades were stained and although we had an Aircon unit there was nothing to control it with.Parking was advertised but when we arrived we were told it was street parking if available .As there was none we had to use the multi storey at a cost of £15.The receptionist was rude and unhelpful and the lift did not accommodate a wheelchair for my disabled mother in law.All in all the whole experience was terrible and definitely did not warrant the £166 paid
This property is quite aged. It needs a few million dollars to bring it up to decent standards. Many visible and amateurish repairs.
Bed mattress was saggy and uncomfortable. window in bathroom would not close/broken handle. Tv was tiny. Toilet was cramped into a corner too near wall! On arrival the was cleaning detergent on the floor by our room door. Lift not working so we had to use stairs to 3rd floor. Went to the bar and no-one was serving so we walked out.
A shabby outdated hotel. Badly needs redecorating/refurbishing and updating. Not obvious with adverts or on booking if breakfast was included. It was not and was disgusting. I remember this hotel in its prime years ago. It’s a pity it has been so neglected. Avoid.
Hotel is clean and adequate, breakfast was hit and miss, tables not set properly, had to ask for milk juice etc, not attended to very well.
Fantastic property and very helpful staff
great place to stay . Close to channel and great shopping and general relaxation .
The floors were uneven and the amenities limited in the room. The breakfast was mediocre
Ideal location if you are walking. Near all major stores and metres from the sea and pier. Cheaper rooms are at the back and overlooking bus depot, although not too noisy. TV didn't work, but I didn't use it and I reported it on check-out.
Friend,y hotel
The best way to describe this hotel is very tired and falling apart in places. The heating was stuck on so it was about 25 degrees in the room. We opened the window but it was really noisy next to the road, even with earplugs in. We effectively had a sleepless night. I would say overpriced at £150 a night.
Clean hotel with large rooms and friendly staff, lovely cooked to order breakfast Mmmmm
It was a lovely room right over the beach which was great but I would have expected a little more luxury for the price. However, acknowledge that it was right along the beach. Decor is a little tired and the shower was difficult due to how it was positioned but generally really enjoyed the location and the stay. The bed was very comfortable and the overall building is fascinating and full of character.
Good hotel for a 3 star for a few days , great breakfast, next to seafront, very close to shopping area
Location that's all
Booked last minute, found check in very easy and the layout of the hotel was good. Its in the perfect location for Worthing Pier and facilities. We came on a motorbike so managed to park in a bay right outside the hotel, if we were in a car it maybe of been a little more difficult to find the parking. The mattress on the bed was soft, there were tea making facilities, and on suite bath/shower. The only disappointing thing was the TV was tiny and on a bracket where it was facing downwards! so couldn't be watched.
Family weekend in Worthing. Two rooms booked in the same name but floors apart. Extremely tired decor. Mould in the bathrooms and blood stained towel. Poorly stocked bar. I couldn’t see out of my window because of the dirt. Finally the cost of £170 per room per night is completely unacceptable. Shame on you Hotels. com for listing this shambles.
Very helpful staff. Very clean room
Staff helpful. Room small. TV tiny. Noisey. Bar shut. Breakfast expensive. No evening meals.
On arrival staff were rude and unhelpful. Could see into other people's bathrooms as they were getting out of the shower. Hotel is in a great location and looks beautiful. Cleaning staff were polite and helpful. Emailed a complaint and the GM replied offering a free upgrade if we returned.
The staff were approachable and friendly upon arrival. Entering the room, it was clean, tidy and organised. The matress was a little soft for my liking, but still comfortable to get a good, restful night's sleep. The morning's breakfast staff could have been a little more attentive, but was greeted with a smile and cheeriness for half past 8 in the morning. Along with an evacuation due to a fire alarm, which so we were told was someone burning some toast, didn't increase my levels of appreciation for an early hour. However, the food was great and set me up for the long day ahead. Pricing is competetive, even if a little more than would be expected. Though, time of year and last minute booking would also account for this. Location is excellent. Across the road from a fairly large park, and the seafront. Close to town, too, which has transport links along the coast. Even with being on a pretty busy road during the day and with events on in the town, it is still quite quiet and peaceful. Lovely place and good staff made it a welcoming experience.
Wouldn’t advise anyone to book here. Unless you don’t mind waiting hours for the shower to work properly. Was halfway through and the water stopped running. Had to wait half hour to get more water. It’s funny now but not at £140 plus breakfast and parking per night. Not worth more than £50 per night.
Hotel staff where friendly from start to finish and very helpful. The hotel is ideally suitable for wheelchair use
It was comfortable and clean. Very good breakfast. Shower needs sorting out in room 163 the family room.
I would not recommend this hotel. At present, the restaurant is only available for breakfast, the bar is small and with limited stock and there is no dedicated parking. When I tried to draw a bath in my room, the hot water was little more than a trickle and it took over 20 minutes to fill the bath. The TV in my room was about the size of a computer monitor and mounted too far from the bed to be watchable. Although the room was clean and the reception staff were helpful, I found the hotel showed its age and would only rate it adequate and not good value for the prices charged.
The hotel was clean but the appearance is awful. It’s dated and needs a complete refurb. I stayed in a superior room which was adequate. It was basic, furniture was a mis-match and old, the dining room was dull and very dated. The windows rattled all night ans the floor is extremely creaky. The room rate is not comparable to the hotel!! A premier inn is far more superior and more cost effective. I would not stay again!
So dirty smelly, awful bar, so dated need pulling down
The beds wre uncomfortable pillows were cheap, flat and very uncomfortable. The bathroom was very small, the sink was too big for the room and the tap dripped. There was a lot of black mildew all around the bath and on the shelf. It had been there for a very long time. The toilet seat was cracked and it was marked around the toilet fittings. There were no nice toiletries and we thought the tea, coffe and biscuit choices were very limited. We had looked forward to this weekend for a long time, it was a weekend for my daughter's 40th birthday. I have been to Worthing so many times and saw this hotel and kept saying i wanted to stay here one day. So disappointed, the room in our opinion was overpriced and in need of redecorating and up dating. We would not book to stay again.
Great location. The hotel is old and due for upgrades. The front desk staff could be a bit more friendly. Stayed there twice. was loud being next to the bus garage.
Although it’s not a high end hotel, it has oodles of quaint, adorable features!
Very tired and dated room. Bed was uncomfortable and the room stuffy (but too noisy to keep windows open). Service indifferent. Way too pricey for what it was.
Very dated property but clean and comfortable, Very pleasant and helpful staff.
The showered wouldn’t cool down so it was always redhot, pee stains around the toilet rim
Staff was very polte room was very clean lovely sea view breakfast was realy tasty
No Thanks
We stayed here last summer and had a room overlooking Steyne Park. We had a lovely room, however, we stayed this week and were given a room at the back. Unbeknown to us it overlooks a bus depot, the buses were returning at the end of the shift and were shunted backwards and forwards until 12.45am. Drivers were yelling and some swearing. I eventually went to sleep and was woken up at 4.15am with drivers returning for a new shift. The noise and smell was awful. The bed we had was very uncomfortable and we could feel yhe springs through the mattress. I spoke to the lady on reception and was told the building was over 200 years old and they couldnt move it? She also pointed out that we had the cheapest rooms? We booked here as we'd stayed before and needed to attend a funeral locally. Surely cheap rooms or not, they should be fit for purpose. We couldnt close the windows due to the heat. Hotel needs updating.
The hotel was ideally situated, close to the town centre and the pier. We were disappointed at our room from the start, it was very plain and tired looking, and after having a shower it refused to turn off. We were not really happy because we had stayed in 4 hotels over that week, and this was the most expensive and probably the worst condition. However, the man who was on reception overnight was very helpful and gave us an upgrade on our return from a night out, and the second room was much nicer than the first.
Great location in town on Marine Parade and side of gardens. . General decor tired and dated with very old bathroom and poor shower attachment over the bath. We overlooked bus garage at the back, and it was very noisy. Buses were coming in and bleepers going as they lined up until past 1 am and then drivers were shouting across the yard at each other. Noise started again about 5.30 am.
Grand old hotel over looking a lovely park. But beware if you stay at the back. Worthing bus garage cracks on till 01:30, and first bus is 05:00. Breakfast was pleasant, but no evening food available.
Back room view , bus garage at night noisey floors very creaky, tap water no sign saying very hot tv very small ,tea making facilitys on a high shelf next to tv not safe
The hotel has a nice exterior and fantastic position in relation to the promenade, the entrance and foyer was clean and stylishly period (loved the grandfather clock on the stairs). The staff were friendly and courteous. The room had a couple of small issues - where ever I stood in the room the floorboards creaked. Where ever I lay on the bed it emitted a high pitched squeak. Most entertaining was the fact I could hear everything the couple in the next room were saying as either the walls or the built in cupboard wall was so thin - Not too much of a problem as I was out most of the evening, and thankfully the sex moans at 1:35am only lasted less than 10 minutes before I could get off to sleep! ☺ Very warm room.
Reading other reviews, a lot of moaning about hotel being dated and scruffy. We thought is was full of character and retaining its original features. Beautiful old seaside town hotel...No issues
Have stayed at the chatsworth several times and feel comfortable and relaxed. Staff are friendly and always helpful.
Very dated hotel. Rooms need a full revamp. Noisy as room backs onto a Stagecoach Depot
Hotel rooms very dated, in need of repair, facilities limited and not working. Breakfast was not good, we did not eat breakfast after the first day
Service friendly and helpful but room condition disappointing for ~120 / night room only rate, If it wasn’t 9pm and rubbish weather with an early next day start I might have tried to go somewhere else.
Rooms like like there stuck in th 60s. Paid 136 for 1 night. A shower that only has cold water. A bath when run with just hot water is luke warm. Wouldnt recommended staying here unless u wanna go back in time!
A tired hotel that is long overdue for a remodel. Windows that looked over a bus garage rattling in the wind. No heating. The shower that struggled to heat up.
Good for a 1 night stay. Old hotel and rooms are dated but comfortable. Water pressure poor in shower but put it down to size and age of hotel. We had family room which slept 3 of us comfortably and separate bedroom to side had bunk beds. Staff very friendly and we had everything we needed for our stay
Very clean place - great staff , breakfast was very good . Needs new mattresses - the bed was definitely a down side .
A rather shabby old hotel, very noisy late at night with folk on their way home & very noisy with traffic from early morning. The lightest pair of curtains since I stayed at a Butlins in the 1970's a very brightly lit from from sun up & did nothing at all to stop the noise (a lump of plastic stuck over one of the broken panes of glass. a few plumbing issues & at breakfast with both of the filter coffee machines & jugs of juice empty coffee at 9am on Sunday morning with no one able of willing to take my oder after 15 minutes of sitting at a table I was forced to give up & walk out. The "free wifi" offers you 2 or 3 paid for options before the link for the "limited" free wifi works - I wonder how many guests get caught out & pay up . . .
Stay was average, rooms clean. Near to centre, which was great. Would stay again as convenient for town
I booked a garden room or street view room. I did not get this. Location of my room was awful. Attic room on 4th floor at the very top of the hotel building. Lifts only go to 3rd floor then narrow staircase to several attic rooms. My room had 2 small skylight type windows and a 3rd small window which looked straight out onto a slate roof. NO view whatsoever. Sloping ceiling reduced the size of the room and the floor was very uneven. Very unfair and dishonest of the hotel to sell this room on 4th floor and in the attic and CERTAINLY NOT WORTH the £114.00 per night (room only) which I paid. I asked to be moved but not possible as hotel was fully booked. I was only staying 1 night. Very unfair to put a resident in such an uncomfortable situation. The staff were very helpful and friendly but there was little they could do. Greedy owners/management exploiting customers by allocating a sub standard room and certainly not fulfilling my own booking. Location of hotel is great very near to town centre and seafront. However there are many neighbouring hotels in this area with same great location. I don’t like leaving a bad review but I have to be honest and due to the above I feel rather ‘ripped off’ and do not recommend the Chatsworth Hotel, Worthing.
Very tired hotel needs a massive upgrade. No bar open. Room of very poor quality and condition.
Staff excellent. Family room very nice. Housekeeping excellent. Hotel tired looking. Bar not open. Bathroom needs up-date. Bathroom fan and shower extremely noisy. I would stay here again.
Nice hotel no frills. Enjoyed our brief stay in family room. Clean and tidy and plenty of tea and coffee which is always nice. Would stay again.
