Merci
This is a unique property for us and we learned and experienced so much. The ryokan and onsen surpassed our expectations. Everything staying here was an experience and we felt privileged to have stayed here

Both the front desk and restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly, truly showcasing the legendary Japanese hospitality. The hotel itself is full of charm; participating in the stamp rally allowed us to explore every corner and appreciate its unique cultural beauty. It was a truly wonderful stay.
Around 7 PM, a group of hotel staff wearing yukatas was sitting on the floor chatting on the stairwell of our floor. They seemed unbothered when guests walked past, which felt a bit unsettling.
The staff were wonderful (helpful and friendly), the food was very good, the bus shuttle was very efficient, the onsen, especially the outside one overlooking the mountains was peaceful and it wa a great touch to provide a yukata each day
some of the internal decor was a little 'tired' and needed a refresh but it did not take away from the experience of the stay:)

This is a historic hotel overlooking Gero-onsen. We stayed during what was clearly off-season (it was sweltering hot and humid, end of July) and the place was almost deserted. In spite of being sweaty and disheveled we were welcomed like royalty. Our room had a private bath which was truly lavish and had an amazing view. Also, in spite of being tattooed, they let me into the onsen because nobody was around! So that actually went better than I expected. We didn't think our kids would appreciate the $200 fancy dinner at the hotel restaurant so we ate at the "bar snacks" area that opened after 8 PM. It was superb. Also our kids absolutely loved exploring the vast, sprawling complex, searching for all of the stamps located in various areas.
The futon beds were nice but they were really thin - we stayed at a ryokan on futon beds before this, and by comparison it felt like we were just sleeping on the ground. Everything else is so opulent that it felt odd by comparison. Also, the "stamp rally" that my kids had so much fun completing promised a prize at the front desk... but they could only get the prize by posting about the hotel on Instagram and showing it to the employees. I don't use social media and my 12 year old was absolutely crushed. I figured they might give in and give him the prize anyway - after all, what kid has an Instagram account? But no, they refused.

Awesome service, great meal and Onsen.
One of a kind building fused with Meiji and Showa style interior. Great view. Awesome service. Wheelchair friendly.

Best onsen experience ever
An old historic location on the slopes of Gero Onsen town. Reception building is beautiful. Staff were very polite.
The building housing the rooms were quite a let down, no view out as blocked by trees. Overall property is very old and you can feel it. Also the hotel caters to more Caucasian tourists as such the breakfast and kaiseki fare is average. You don’t get too local a cuisine as it might not be appreciated to their core audience.
A magical and very relaxing experience in our traditional Japanese style room with private Onsen bath in our room. We were on the 10th floor and had a view out into the valley.. The Onsen Hotel itself is like a maze of annexes and buildings and towers built on to the Mountainside and it was really a lot of fun to walk around into the different areas in the hotel. The food was exceptional. We loved our breakfast and we had a dinner one night which was also great there was a small mix up with our request for vegetarian for one of us but the staff handled it very well and very politely and the food was excellent
There was nothing we didn't like it was a great experience
A very unique and memorable experience. We were welcomed to our room, donned our Yukata and spent the whole afternoon exploring the hotel. There really is a lot to see, as well as enjoying the beautiful views and relaxing onsen. We had the kaiseki dinner which was superb. I honsetly think I would come here again if I came back to Japan.
Leaving
A genuinely charming hotel. The architecture, garden, and riverside setting are beautiful. At check-in, staff walk you through the history of the property, including the imperial visits, which sets the tone well. Service throughout was attentive. Breakfast was excellent. The traditional yukata they provide to wear around the property is a nice touch that pulls you into the spirit of the place.
Two small notes. Room amenities felt inconsistent with the overall positioning: towels, toiletries, and in-room details were below what the property suggests. Second, we booked a room with a private onsen but in hindsight the standard rooms in the historic building combined with the communal onsen would have been the better choice, both for value and for the experience of staying in the more characterful part of the hotel.

Juste exceptionnel !
Our room was large and had a great view of the hills from our room as well as the in room onsen. The public onsens were among the best we experienced in Japan. The building and grounds were lovely to wander.
While the property was beautiful, it seemed a bit tired in places/
Staff that led us in and introduced the facility for us was really kind and approachable. Shuttle service is convenient.
This is one of the most relaxed stays I have ever had.
I liked everything and the staff is wonderful
Great lodging, food and hot springs.
In the best of ways, it felt like stepping back in time
1. Onsen, breakfast and room are good 2, The staffs are nice 3. The surroundings are beautiful
The room rate is bit high
Old country style
Difficult to find direction
The hotel is an old Onsen hotel with long history. The staff is friendly & helpful
Since the building is old, there are only 3 sockets which is less than enough. We would like to have the Onsen dinner but dinner was not included & it was full.

The hotel was very nice and comfortable with beautiful gardens. Staff were friendly with great service and both dinner and breakfast were excellent.
We had room with an indoor onsen which was a bit outdated.
Everything, this place was amazing. The food was excellent, room was very nice and the hotel is gorgeous. The hot springs were beautiful and traditional. We really enjoyed it. It's about 10 minutes drive into the town so if you plan to stay for several days youll want to ask about transport back and forth but it's perfect for an overnight or two night stay without leaving the hotel. There was a mix of local vacationers and international tourists so that was also pretty cool.
A bit annoying that they dont make your bed until the evening so if youre tired and want to nap early you have no bed in the room. Maybe you can request it before hand but I wasnt aware of that process.
private onsen to be reserved for free; room is tidy and clean; staff are friendly
Very scenic. Helpful staff, good food.
A highlight!

The atmosphere and the layoutbof the building is intriguing. The onsen is beautiful and satisfying. Nice meals as well. Also the staff is very welcoming.
Staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and hardworking. Best tatami beds we had all trip an dinner in our room was very tasty and a great experience. The public baths were well kept and well stocked with amenities and just lovely to spend time in.
We had a bit of a wait to check in but we got to pick our yukata while we waited so it worked out.

Locatie.
Prijs kwaliteit niet ok. Zeeeeer oude faciliteiten. Niet up to date.
It was up on a hill which was nice. The omakase meal had some delicious courses and some just okay. The presentation was very beautiful!
It was musty and a bit moldy smelling. It definitely needs updating for how much it charges. We paid for a room with a private onsen only to realize it was just a bathtub for one person.
Staff is friendly, very good services
Breakfast can be better
