Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Everything was great, the room is clean and big. The breakfast is excellent too. The house location is great, the subway station is a 2 minute walk, then everything is reachable from the subway. Tony is very pleasant to talk with, also he gives a lot of tips on the things to visit, and how to get there. He is very helpful, if you need anything (a city map, a canadian/french electric plug adaptor), he has it. If I go back to Montreal I return to Tony's place, no question
When booking this B&B I was swayed by the reviews and my past experience with B&B’s around the world. But boy, was I disappointed. B&B is in residential area in the old two storey townhouse, about 40 minutes walking distance to downtown Montreal. Tony, who runs the place also lives there and the place is mess. Walking into the living room, as you enter the B&B, was like walking into the storage room, so much stuff it was overwhelming. The next shock was when I got my room, it was in the basement, next to garage (or it was converted garage, who knows) and laundry room. Room had low ceiling, and was cramped with old furniture form times of Maria Thereza. About 20 hooks on the wall with the wire coat hangers made it feel like changeroom of 5th division football team. Four old lamps, one turning on and off by itself, which I had to unplug. Old air condition unit, that remembers Edison, placed in the small window opening, supporting on two timber offcuts, its electrical cord taped up. Aircon was producing light show, sparks occasionally lit up the room. I had to turn it off as I didn’t want to burn down in this dungeon. Room had own bathroom, sink area was so small that I had to back out, since if I turned I’d hit the paper towel dispenser, even thou right beneath it was a hand towel rack. In the morning I’d be woken up by the guests above, rattling with the chairs in the kitchen and walking up and down the timber floor. There was no natural light in the room whole day. The basement was not meant to be lived in! I hoped my next day would be improved by delicious breakfast everybody was raving about in the reviews. The host, claiming to be a chef, served me a burnt out omelette, with slices of white sandwich toast and the fruit compote with drowned half of banana. Omelette had traces of vegetable, so miniscule I couldn’t tell what it was. This is a type of breakfast you can expect in the truck stop, served by the fat bloke in the middle of nowhere in Australia, not in downtown Montreal. If the host is “chef”, then I’m three Michelin stars culinary virtuoso. Next day he served two French toast slices made from the same white stuff, I haven’t eaten in 30 years, so the last day I just skipped breaky and went to Little Burgundy to eat, 20 min form B&B. He was upset, but I couldn’t give a damn anymore. Maybe the upstairs rooms were different, or maybe the guest were homeless, who finally had a bed and food after years of sleeping and eating rough, but I just couldn’t understand such a high reviews. I’ve been in more than thousands of motels, hotels and B&B’s around the world, however this was the 2nd worst accommodation and the hands down the worst B&B. I felt ripped off for paying $730 for three nights at this “establishment”. For that money, you get beautiful hotel room with harbour views in Sydney. This is the place you go to only twice, the FIRST and LAST time!
Tony is a great host! He ensured we were comfortable during our stay and was also a phenomenal chef, making breakfast every day we stayed. The bathroom was very clean and accessible. The location (3 min walk from the metro station) was also great for exploring the city.
Fantastic location in a quiet neighborhood about two blocks from a metro stop. I stayed in the “Executive Room” on the basement level, which is perfect for summer because it is very cool. There was a heat wave while I visited and I didn’t even need to turn on the AC! As others have said, Tony is friendly, gracious host who makes delicious breakfasts. I’d definitely stay here again.
This was my first time at Repos and Manna B&B and having travelled all over the world and usually staying at major hotels, I must say that in the future, I will be returning to Repos and Manna each time I visit Montreal. Tony made me feel at home and like family, this has been by far the best experience I have ever had at a B&B anywhere in the world. The meals were spectacular, the conversation intriguing and pleasant, the rooms very comfortable and clean, and the neighborhood very safe, peaceful and quiet. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will be referring this place to my family, friends, and work colleagues.
Best hotel/B&B experience ever!! First off, Tony is an amazing host. He is very welcoming, extremely knowledgeable about the city of Montreal, cooks a killer breakfast and encourages guests to engage with eachother. The morning breakfast table talk was always engaging and enjoyable. His place becomes your place as soon as you walk though the doo, you will feel right at home. Super cozy room and a very comfortable bed. Thanks for the great stay T, I will be back!! - Connor :)
Breakfast first. Our host Chef Tony makes the best breakfast in Montreal. Location location location. This B&B is located a short walk from the metro (public transportation). We stayed in a newer suit with a private bathroom. We had everything and more to enjoy our stay. But I must be honest this was our third stay and it will not be our our last.
We left immediately. 1) the owner would not let us see the room unless we registered. This is when we found out that: 2) our "Executive Room" did not have a bathroom: the bathroom is shared (the room description included "bathroom or shower", not mentioning it was shared). 3) the main floor is a complete mess; there is no place to sit for all the junk piled up everywhere. This is blatantly false advertising. There is no parking, the bathrooms are shared, the photos shown are taken in a way that hides the general mess of the place. With many years of using Expedia, I have never come across something this bad. The owner reimbursed us $100, but this is a small fraction of the amount he charged us.
Walking in can be a bit overwhelming, but as you get to know Tony, you see the story of his life embedded in every corner of this charming gite. Well situated for a walk along the Lachine Canal to Old Montreal or the Metro, the real charm is getting to know Tony as host. The room we stayed in (#2) was comfortable, clean, quiet and restful. Excellent breakfasts and helpful advice. As we were leaving, we had a tire valve problem that Tony went out of his way to remedy and referred us to an excellent nearby garage that fixed the issue. Fun stay with an interesting character that you will never experience at a hotel. Two thumbs up!
My wife and I signed up for a four-night stay at Repos & Manna on our way to Ottawa from the States at the beginning of August with the intention of having a well-rounded experience for my wife's first visit to Montreal and we were not disappointed! I can concur with everything other reviewers have said about Tony's knowledge and helpfulness, as well as the feeling that you are with family by the end of your stay. (I particularly appreciated Tony's way of being helpful without being overbearing - for example, not saying "I told you so" when I eventually realized that he was right about how much easier it would be to see what we wanted to see by taking the Metro rather than our car ;) .) Repos & Manna itself is a small but very cozy setting, and like Montreal as a whole you are likely to find yourself engaging in casual conversation there with friendly people from many parts of the world (particularly at breakfast, with Tony skillfully facilitating the cultural exchange as needed). Tony's breakfast is also like a microcosm of Montreal cuisine in the sense of being interesting and diverse as well as high quality. Overall, Repos & Manna is an ideal bed and breakfast in and of itself as well as being surprisingly convenient to many of the venues and other attractions scattered throughout the city. (P.S. We found the parking situation a little awkward on our first day or so, until we took the initiative to walk around a bit and discover nearby streets that had a different cleaning schedule. If it weren't for the fact that we had our bicycles and camping gear with us, however, I would have said that we didn't really need to have a car at all.)
We spent four nights being hosted by Tony, with his wonderful conversation and delicious breakfasts. We had the family room as the other rooms were booked and it was very comfortable. We didn't need the air conditioning, but with the Montreal humidity, even in 65F weather we found the circular fan a welcome addition in the evening. The bed was very comfortable, and the shared bathroom was no problem. Tony's guests all seem to be the type of people who are respectful of others. As we were there four mornings Tony made sure he prepared us a different meal each breakfast and all were excellent and ample. The conversation at the table and with Tony was always interesting and, as my wife and I were ones not on a schedule, often went to 10. Tony was a great guide to Montreal, with maps and explanations on the different areas to visit. Repos is just two blocks from the Georges Varnier metro stop so with the free, unlimited on street parking we had no need to use our car. A three day. Metro pass was the equivalent of a little over $16 US each so we rode and walked everywhere. We don't know when we will get to Montreal again, but we love the city and now we have a place to stay that we also love. This was a find on Trip Advisor (although we booked directly with Tony) and a great find it was. Thanks for your great hospitality!!
I am a Canadian who grew up in Montreal and graduated from McGill as well as Concordia. I speak fairly good French as well as English and Hungarian. I know Montreal really well (some areas) but live and work in the US. I had to travel up to Montreal to meet with my sister as well as to take care of my late mother's financial issues. Generally speaking I prefer AirBNB and B&B places a hundred times over hotels. So I went to Expedia, to search for a non-hotel place to stay at. I came across Repos & Manna on rue Quesnel in the St Henri district. Besides the areas around the Linel Groulx metro station, I don not know this district well. Bear in mind, for walkers, or those that use public transit, that the closest metro stations are Georges Vanier and Lucien L'allier. Unless you are familiar with the St Henri district or "arrondissement" do have a well charged GPS unit or phone to determine how to walk to this address from a metro station, even though from the Georges Vanier station the home is really just a few minutes away. Montreal's transit system is among the best on the planet. It was a piece of cake to take the 747 autobus from Trudeau-Dorval airport to the Lionel Groulx metro station (downtown metro transit point). The buses and metro are new, revised, clean, beautiful, and wonderful to ride. A one week OPUS pass costs a mere $29 CDN plus $6 for the chip-embedded reloadable card (if you don't already have one). With this you can travel the whole island of Montreal. On the outside, this place is a cute, well maintained townhome in a row block of buildings. Check in time is 3:00 PM. The owner of this B&B (gîte de passant) is an Italian gentleman, Tony. I arrived a bit earlier than the 3:00 PM check in time. Tony told me that my room, upstairs room #2 wasn't ready yet. However he did allow me to stow my baggage at the place. At this point I walked to Atwater street and walked around St. Catherine for hours and enjoyed every minute. My phone died. I went back to Lionel Giroux metro station, and could not find the place despite walking around for hours (I am not familiar with the St Henri district). Tony, the owner of this B&B did specify that he provides all that you need to get around his place and how to navigate the streets. However I, as a proud Montrealer, felt that I really know the city and declined his offer for help. So I can't hold it against him that his place is hard to find if your GPS device is not working. There is a ton of art, paintings, artifacts, photos, sculptures, stuffed animals, figurines, musical instruments, etc decorating Tony's home. Also there are boxes, a large dining room table with 6 chairs (where guests are served breakfast), and boxes of bottled water, canned food, beer etc along the wall. The place is packed with visual stimulants, bookshelves and walls loaded with art, etc. I got room (chambre) #2. The room is cozily decorated and houses a large double bed, a microwave and mini-fridge, paintings, a wall mounted television in the corner, and shelves containing vases, books - mainly small new testiment bibles in English or French. There is a common, very clean bathroom on the floor. The bathroom is well maintained with soaps, shampoo, bath tissue, etc. If you get up in the middle of the night to leave your room, there are numerous sensor activated LED lights to light your way from your bedroom to the bathroom and also in the bathroom. Breakfast: Tony prepares the breakfast by hand every morning between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM. The breakfasts are large. The breakfasts change every day. Tony told me that he wants to make sure we are well fed so that we can skip lunch. This is a good thing. Tony is talkative. He will make an effort to get to know you and will also tell you about himself. He encourages guests to interact with each other - this makes breakfast a lot more interesting. Plus he will encourage you to speak English and French (and if you know Italian, then that too), in a wide variety of topics. There is always bottled water available. Another plus: Tony heard that my sister was also in Montreal - she was staying at a hotel on Drummond Street. He said that I should bring my sister to get a free breakfast. I brought this up to my sister. However she is on a strict diet and only eats 2 yoghurts for breakfast, so she unfortunately declined - but was impressed by the offer. Since this is a Bed and Breakfast place, the bed is not made. The towels are in your room and you are encouraged to keep using them. There are no towels in the two guest bathrooms (one on 2nd floor, the other going down to the basement). A key code is used to enter the premises, and if you come back late (after midnight), you have to use the shower in the bathroom leading down to the basement. All in all I had a great experience at Repos & Manna B&B. Photos are attached.
It was a last minute booking and we were fortunate to get two nights as Repos is in high demand. But, what a lovely surprise we had when we arrived! This clean and airy house situated in a quiet leafy area of Montreal, 5-7 minutes from the subway. A bed and breakfast unlike any other. Tastefully decorated rooms, plush furnishings, with a touch of luxury here and there, our stay was an upgraded home away from home - a joy to return to after each outing. Tony is the consummate host and renaissance man. Breakfasts are an event, nourishing, filling prepared by chef Tony himself with great conversation and lively stories. As regards the sights, he explained to us everything we needed to know, whether it be places to eat, things to see, shopping, parks, museums, etc, Tony advised on the perfect tourist/visitor itinerary for each guest. Did we mention the wonderful eclectic art collection? Repos & Manna is a gem! Thank you Tony!!!
ony was awesome. As we arrived he spent all the necessary time to explain everything about Montreal must see sand he was always available to give advices. His breakfasts are excellent (5 different meals over 5 mornings) and the breakfast is always a great time. We had long and nice discussions in the morning sharing with other guests and Tony. The room was large and well equipped. The bed was very good. The house is always very clean. The location of the B&B is just perfect. Far enough to be in calm environment but very close to the metro and at walking distance of the old town of Montreal. Do not change anything Tony!
My 17 year old son and I stayed at Repos & Manna B&B from August 27-31, 2022 which I refer to as "Tony's". On route I gave Tony the heads up about arrival time and he was there to greet us and orientate us to Montreal. The next 4 days we enjoyed amazing breakfasts made by Tony. Our room was clean, stocked and comfortable for the 2 of us. The bed was AMAZING! Two full bathrooms made it easy to shower and leave whenever we needed. The location was great. Less than 5 min walk to the metro (subway) and approx 35 min walk to "old Montreal". We took the metro everywhere and still got in over 12 000 steps a day. I liked knowing Tony stayed in house. It was like having a big brother look out for us. We felt safe and his home felt like home by the time we left. If you plan to go to Montreal contact Tony immediately. You will not regret it. Thank you Tony for being an amazing human being and host. Jenn & Liam
More than just a B&B, Repos & Manna is where travellers meet and exchange, while enjoying Tony's fabulous breakfasts and stories. Conveniently located in the interesting Quartiers du Canal, near Lionel Groulx and Georges Vanier metro stations and Atwater Market. Tony will tell you all you need to know about Montreal and more. Very clean rooms and bathrooms, with aircon, fan, fridge, microwave and TV. A home away from home in Montreal - a great place to stay.
Great host. Very welcoming and dedicated to his guests having a good time in the city. Breakfast was great as well
Rooms are clean, bathrooms are clean. Breakfast is wonderful. Yes location, location. No need for a car. 2 blocks to the metro. Tony is very informative of the city. My second time staying at Repos &Manna B&B. I had family from Europe and wanted to show them Montreal and this was the first place on my mind.
Great location , hospitality
Tony is a great host and makes great breakfasts! He was super accommodating and fab at helping us navigate the city! We even left our swimming stuff and he emailed us letting us know. The location of the b&b is great and parking is easy. The tv has just about every channel which was brilliant. Would definitely stay again.
- Great location - Very friendly host (and great cook!) - Fantastic orientation, where Tony walks you through a map of Montreal, circles things to see, and writes down tips. WAY better than any guide you could get online
i come from China, and attend a international congress in Canada. Tony is very friendly, and the breakfast is very delicious! the room is very clean. its a very good trip in Canada. Repos & Manna B &B gives a good service at a low price.
This was an awesome place to stay for a couple of days while I attended a conference at a major downtown hotel. Tony is an outstanding chef and a consummate host. In was an absolute pleasure to stay at this affordable BnB, just outside the city core, for a fraction of the price of a hotel right downtown. Not only is there free parking on the street, but I literally walked downtown (and back at night) in less than 20min, (or you can jump on the metro which is just at the end of the block). Such a great location, such great meals, and such a great host. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
The house is conveniently located near Concordia University and downtown. There is a metro line close by. The B&B is well kept and maintained by its owners. I was upgraded for a larger room for no additional cost. Tony took good care of me by preparing coffee and breakfast every day. He gave me information about Montreal and how to get around. I will recommend this B&B to my friends and relatives.
My stay at Repos & Manna was exactly as the earlier reviews led me to expect. My room was clean and comfortable, Tony is friendly and always ready with helpful tips, breakfast was tasty and different every morning, and it's close enough to downtown to easily walk without feeling like you're in the middle of the city. On-street parking for my motorcycle was easy enough (it would have been more difficult with a car), and Tony helped to make sure that I didn't forget to move on street cleaning day. When I return to Montreal I will absolutely stay at Repos & Manna again.
Nice b&b, good location, nice host, nice breakfasts, just a couple blocks to the metro station, a few more to saint catherine street, worked well for me for attending the rogers cup
This was a lovely place to stay! It was very walkable and close to lots of great restaurants and patios. Tony is very knowledgeable about the city and super helpful with maps and tourist attractions. Rooms are excellent, clean and comfortable with air conditioning. I highly recommend staying here.
Fantastic experience. The owner Tony is really friendly and made the stay a real joy. The beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent too. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting for business or pleasure.
Great host, good breakfasts, small but comfortable room. This is a bnb so does not have supplies like an iron etc. which is understandable. Fun place to stay with lots of engaging conversations with Tony.
I spent 2 nights there with my husband and our best friend. The room was very confortable, but the most important asset of this BNB is Tony. He is the most delightful host, giving advice on the city, preparing tremendous breakfasts and always happy to chat. We really enjoyed our stay and will be more than glad to come back later. Thanks again Tony, hope to see you again soon ^_^
Fantastic friendly host & chef. We were attending a Queen gig in Montreal, traveled from Ireland, and we couldn't have wished for a better place to stay. We normally just do hotels not B&Bs this has made us question why?!
We arrived on Saturday evening, and were met by our host, Tony. He took the time to orient us to the area, and gave us a map tour of the area, with suggestions on places to go and eat. Our accommodations were comfortable, but the room was very small. Wi fi kept going in and out, but other than that, it was a delightful place to stay. Tony is also an accomplished chef, and made delicious food for breakfast. If you stay here, you will eat well and relatively healthy, for Tony does pay attention to nutritional needs, as well. I would return for another visit if I come back to Montreal.
We felt very comfortable at the B&B! The breakfast was delicious on both days, the bed was comfortable, and we were so grateful that Tony sat down with us to explain the area when we first arrived. Although the bathrooms are shared, there are three, which means there's likely to be no wait (we didn't have to, at least!). The B&B is very well located, and parking is free on the street. Thanks, Tony!
as I set foot for the first time in this place, the owner started bickering because I did not tell him in advance at what time I would come in. Then, no air conditionning in the room (they advertise they have it). The owner promised to install it the next day but didn't. The bathroom door does not close properly, so it opens at unexpected times... Miserable experience, the worst I had in years.
This is a small B&B outside of downtown Montreal. It's very clean and neat, though our bedroom was small. The shared bathroom was very clean. The big draw is the owner, Tony, who is very friendly and caring.
Where to begin? Tony was a tremendous host, and it's clear he's on a mission to bring the hospitable spirit back into the hospitality industry. Not only do you experience a comfortable stay at Repos & Manna B&B, you experience what it's like to live at "home away from home". As soon as you arrive, Tony takes the time to understand what the purpose of your visit is, mapping out the area, and planning out your stay. Room # 2 that I stayed in was very comfortable, and could easily accommodate 2 people. Breakfast's in the morning are excellent, prepared fresh by Tony himself (there's nothing this man can't do -- literally!). He always makes sure that you eat a different breakfast any morning, and you're always in for a tasty treat! If you're looking for the 5 star experience, at a 3 star cost, Repos & Manna B&B is the place to stay. Would definitely book again.
