Everything, but mostly the setting. Iwasō sits up in Momijidani with the river running past and the maples overhead, and once the last day boat leaves the island it goes completely silent apart from the water and the deer. That alone is worth the stay. The building itself is the real thing rather than a recreation, all old wood and paper and dark corridors, and it has been looked after beautifully. The food was outstanding. A proper multi-course kaiseki, local seafood, served in the room at exactly the right pace, and the breakfast the following morning was just as considered. The onsen after a long day walking the island was perfect. What lifted it above a nice hotel was the staff. Unfailingly kind, completely unhurried, anticipating things before we asked. When bad weather threatened our ferry connection off the island they sorted it out for us without being asked twice. Nothing was too much trouble.

The staff were very friendly, and this was a very beautiful ryokan which is why we booked it. The onsen and dining were also incredible. Very short walk to the floating torii gate, accompanied by deer. Very calm and serene in the afternoon and morning.

Il prezzo era molto alto e secondo me troppo rispetto ai servizi offerti. In particolare cena e colazione che erano buoni ma non eccezionali.

Bellissima esperienza a IWASO per trascorrere una notte in un ryokan storico sulla magica isola di Miyajima. ONSEN fantastico con acqua calda sorgente e ogni genere di conforto. Eravamo un piccolo gruppo e ci hanno servito la cena e la colazione tradizionali squisite in una saletta dedicata solo a noi.

Tout était parfait, une véritable expérience ryokan. Les équipement sont modernes.

El ambiente y la ubicacion

La verdad es que deberían detallar más sobre aspectos como el menu que sirven, muy japonés pero quizás no apto para todos los gustos; sabiendo que uno de los comensales era un niño, ni había menú para el ni previsión de platos alternativos.

Es muy auténtico

Está anticuado. La cena Kaiseki en este ryokan es un poco extrema para occidentales. En otros ryokanes está un poco más adaptadas. Y no tiene opción de desayuno occidental.

Struttura autentica a due passi dal santuario di Miyajima. Ryokan dotato di tutti i servizi, con esperienza di soggiorno in stile giapponese. Le stanze sono ampie, lo staff molto cordiale e disponibile, il cibo ottimo. Anche l'onsen è davvero attrezzatissimo e la vasca esterna vicino al bosco è molto piacevole.

La struttura mostra qualche segno del tempo. Non era possibile oscurare totalmente la luce esterna durante la notte quindi all'alba la stanza era completamente illuminata.

La gentilezza e la bellezza del posto. Unico.

Ci fosse stata anche una vasca con l'acqua un po' meno calda sarebbe stato davvero il paradiso, ma capisco che in Giappone si fa così. Rovente. Lo accetto.

Posizione eccezionale, posto incantevole nel bosco, abbiamo fruito della mezza pensione, per noi la colazione giapponese è stata un po’ impegnativo ma per chi davvero vuole inserirsi al 100% nello stile orientale il posto merita voto 10

Rien ! Attention le repas du soir et le petit déjeuner sont basés sur des produits locaux et très japonais. Quand on a pas l’habitude c’est assez surprenant, mais on a adoré l’expérience et la découverte même si nous n’avons malheureusement pas tout mangé.

Iwaso is a beautiful and peaceful retreat on what can be a very busy Miyajima. There are lots of visitors on the island during the day, but stepping into the ryokan feels like escaping into your own quiet little world. The location is wonderful, surrounded by trees and tucked away from the busiest part of the village while still being perfectly placed for exploring the island. The service was excellent throughout our stay. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, and the pick-up service was fantastic. As soon as we called to say we had arrived, they came to collect us and our luggage. We stayed in the annex in a room with a private bathroom and a wonderful view. I particularly loved the small sitting area overlooking the stream and the beautiful woods. It was such a lovely place to sit with a drink and take in the surroundings. The whole property is aesthetically beautiful and has a wonderfully peaceful feeling. The traditional futon beds are made up for you while you’re at dinner and packed away again in the morning. We did find them a little firm for us! On the second night we discovered another mat available in the cupboard, added that underneath and found it significantly more comfortable. Dinner was another highlight. The kaiseki menu felt wonderfully authentic, and the kitchen took great care in creating vegan meals for us. Everything was fresh, interesting and delicious, and we really appreciated being able to enjoy the full experience of traditional Japanese dining without our being vegan seeming like an inconvenience or an afterthought. Iwaso also has separate men’s and women’s onsens on the premises, so you can enjoy the whole onsen experience without even leaving the ryokan. Miyajima itself is busy during the day, but it’s a wonderful place to explore. The village has lots of restaurants and food stalls, including several where we found vegan options, as well as some great little shops.

The hotel has a dated dirty , stained plush carpet. The room for 3 was tiny , for someone to go to the bathroom at night they had to walk over another ones sleeping mat. No place for luggage , Service was poor.

Prachtige ligging, prachtig gebouw, enorm aardige mensen. En de ryokan ervaring was erg bijzonder.

De bedden waren vrij hard, en we moesten erg wennen aan het eten. Het zag er super uit, werd duidelijk met liefde gemaakt en gepresenteerd maar was niet helemaal onze smaak.

L'ambiance générale du Ryokan, les installations sont superbes (notamment l'Onsen) et le repas (diner et petit-déjeuner) sont vraiment très très bien.

Yukata et sandale mis à disposition en taille standard (comprendre suivant standard japonais) sans avoir à disposition de grandes tailles - je fais plus de 2m et chausse du 49, autant dire que ce qui est mis à disposition me sied très peu......

L'hôtel est très bien placé

J'ai été très malade après le dîner du premier soir, mon fils de 14 ans aussi, la nourriture n'était clairement pas fraîche. J'en ai informé la réception en disant que c'était la première fois que cela nous arrivait au bout de 3 semaines au Japon et que je préférais annuler le dîner de la deuxième nuit. Ils ont refusé d'annuler et nous ont fait payer le deuxième dîner ainsi que le petit déjeuner alors que nous ne nous sommes pas présentés et donc n'avons pas consommé!

I became very ill after dinner on the first night, and so did my 14-year-old son — the food was clearly not fresh. I informed the front desk, explaining that this was the first time this had happened to us in three weeks in Japan and that I would prefer to cancel dinner on the second night. They refused to cancel it and charged us for both the second dinner and the breakfast, even though we never showed up and therefore did not eat anything!

The location and the authentic Japanese atmosphere were exceptional. We loved the tasting menu, and every detail had been thoughtfully curated. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, making our stay truly memorable.

Erinomainen, yksilöllinen palvelu. Tunsin itseni erittäin tärkeäksi. Perinteitä kunnioittava paikka. Sijainti erittäin hyvä ja loistava shuttle palvelu jos on kannettavaa mukana.

Meille turisteille korostetaan aina että Onsen on pyhä paikka ja siellä täytyy käyttäytyä sen mukaisesti. Pitäisikö tämä sama kertoa japanilaisrouville, jotka varsinkin aamuisin, olivat kuin kaakattava lauma kanoja kylvyssä😉

L’onsen con vista sul fiume e la posizione, a 3 min. dal celebre tempio. Gentilissimo il personale, con una menzione d’onore per l’autista del servizio navetta, molto professionale e preciso.

L’hotel è una struttura di alto livello ma necessiterebbe di una rinfrescata. La cena è servita molto in fretta per tener dietro alle turnazioni e, pur trattandosi di piatti buoni, nulla è indimenticabile. L’impressione complessiva è che il turismo “mordi e fuggi” che visita Miyajima in 24/36 ore abbia contribuito a deteriorare lo standard di ospitalità (laddove i prezzi rimangono piuttosto alti).

Le dîner était typique japonais, plusieurs plats qui s'enchainaient ! Malheureusement, nous avons réservé trop tard donc nous n'avions pas d'option végétarienne possible. Mais si nous avons bien compris, il est possible de demander un repas totalement végétarien ! Autrement, il y avait plusieurs plat, ou parties de plats, végétariens ! Et le petit-déjeuner était fantastique aussi ! La chambre était comme nous l'attendions, pas des plus grande mais très largement suffisante, nous avons passer une nuit très confortable sur le Futon ! Les Onsen étaient fantastiques, surtout la partie extérieure avec vue sur la forêt, une apparence très mystique ! L'emplacement était parfaitement situé, à 5min de la Torii, et un bus navette de l'hôtel est venu nous chercher et nous a ramené au Ferry. Encore merci pour ça !

Honnêtement, pas grand chose. Potentiellement plus de facilité à pouvoir demander un repas végétarien 1-2 jours avant ? La cuisine japonaise contient beaucoup de poisson, mais également beaucoup de mets végétariens ! Il serait dommage de s'en passer :)

The staff, rooms, onsen, meals, and location were all exceptional.

We were there for our honeymoon and were pleased ! Room was clean and big. Breakfast and Dinner were really really good. Location was great.

I would have liked that the Japanese style bed were a little bit more thick as we could feel the floor a lot.

Sicuro l’atmosfera era accogliente

Intanto la cena e la colazione, per quanto possano essere gusti, erano elevati come prezzo. Quindi in generale il prezzo secondo me è spropositato. Al pagamento della tassa di soggiorno, per pagarla avevamo dato tutti gli spiccioli ma facendo i conti mancavano 5 yen. Ho dovuto riprendere gli spiccioli e pagare con la banconota. Non che sia sbagliato ma in molti altri posti non avrebbero fatto problemi. Diciamo è più un appunto che una critica (considerando però il prezzo folle a notte)

素晴らしいとしか言葉がない！厳島神社まで徒歩5分のロケーション、歴史ある建物の佇まい、露天風呂からの眺め、目と舌で堪能した豪華な懐石料理、そして何よりスタッフの方々のおもてなしの心。滞在中の全てに感動しました！

敢えて言うならば、履物を替える際の段差が大きくて屈むのが大変だった事くらいです。もう一段石を置いていただけたら楽になると感じました。

Nice place but it’s a big hotel and they just treat you l like they do in big hotel chains, no charm (unfortunately)… dinner and breakfast were both soulless

Le cadre est magique. Un personnel aux petits soin et un repas et petit déjeuner traditionnel au top. Bref c est une experience unique a vivre quand on vient au japon et surtout sur l ile de myajima qui est magique...

Struttura favolosa, immersa nella natura ma a 2 passi dalla zona dei nogozi e dal tori rosso. Servizio ai massimi livello, il ryokan era pulitssimo e molto bello. Dormire sul futon è stata un'esperienza molto bella. Abbiamo fatto anche la cena ed è stata ottima, di qualità e con un servizio di classe. Lo stesso vale per la colazione. Un ryokan consigliato a tutti, per una notte da ricordare

Purtroppo a cena siamo finiti in un posto un filo peggiore degli altri, un bancone vicino alla cucina, può succedere anche se per il prezzo che si paga vedere alcuni al tavolo e altri al bancone è un peccato. In ogni caso non rovina l'esperienza che resta una delle migliori di tutto il viaggio in Giappone

Beautiful hotel in a relaxing location. Enjoyed the included meals. Amazing onsen overlooking the stream. The futon beds were very comfortable. Staff were brilliant.

Merveilleux séjour dans ce ryokan traditionnel. Service très haut de gamme, repas kaiseki excellents, chambre traditionnelle japonaise confortable et spacieuse donnant sur la foret et la rivière. Le onsen de l'hôtel offre une expérience magique avec le bain externe avec vue sur la foret et les biches qui s'approchent la nuit. L'hotel se situe à 5 min à pied su sanctuaire d'Itsukushima, et du départ de la randonnée vers le mont Misen.

It was the best Japanese experience we’ve had. It provides an incredibly authentic ryokan experience, situated high up the mountain surrounded by lush forests. We slept with the windows open to the sound of the river, and enjoyed the outdoor onsen with the same view. The staff were all incredible, and our room hostess Isowa took tremendous care of us, during check in as well as during dinner. The historic building was amazing with such close access to the nature park, and a beautiful woods walk to the Temple. I highly recommend this hotel.

I wish I had stayed two days instead of one.

Molto tradizionale. Tutta in legno. Struttura in un ambiente magnifico immerso nella natura. Navetta dal porto gratuita. Vasche onsen accoglienti.

Poca flessibilità sugli orari (colazione e cena. Per forza entro i loro limiti altrimenti ti dicono di saltarle). Poca flessibilità sul trasporto mattutino per il porto (anche qui se non rispetti i loro orari, vai a piedi). Peccato l’ostacolo linguistico del personale.

The Onsen was great and dinner was exquisite! My room had a view to the forest which provides an even extra level of peaceful vibe.

Ryokan tradizionale di lusso, bellissima camera con tatami, molto spaziosa e dotata di un salottino con vista bosco. Il bagno era privato in camera, completo di ogni cosa. Forniscono anche dei bellissimi yukata per muoversi nell'hotel. Bellissime le onsen dell'hotel, con una vasca all'aperto vista bosco. Servizio tradizionale fantastico, con il tè offerto all'arrivo direttamente in camera; il futon per la notte lo preparano loro. Abbiamo provato anche la cena kaiseki e la colazione tradizionale, cibo molto buono, anche se alcune cose sono un po' particolari. Staff gentile e disponibile, parla anche perfettamente inglese. Otima anche la posizione, a poche centinaia di metri dal santuario e dalla città e adiacente a un parco.

Prezzo un po' alto. Il futon poteva essere un po' più spesso e morbido, non è stato comodissimo. La colazione era di qualità, ma forse con sapori un po' troppo particolari per noi occidentali, abituati diversamente a colazione (ho apprezzato maggiormente la cena)

Westernized but very carefully created Ryokan experience.

Overall such a lovely experience. I think everything was really well thought out and staff super friendly. The breakfast and dinner was amazing and definitely compliments to the chef! I loved my cosy slippers and traditional gown to lounge about in. Location great and the Onsen was just what I needed, I particularly enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor bath :)

La comida sobre todo el desayuno que no tuviera opción occidental es lo que peor llevé . La cama , se que es lo típico, pero el colchón era muy fino. En definitiva el precio me parece excesivo para la experiencia en sí, pero bueno es algo personal. El trato del hotel aun así recalcó que fue GENIAL

Unique and historical inn … location is perfect, staff were fabulous and the setting is tranquil - was a great end to a long holiday before traveling home. Our welcome, complete with tea and an orientation was generously and carefully delivered. The attention to detail, especially the food (note however, it does require a broad palate) was next level. You could hear the brook running at night which added to the tranquility and the hotel oozes style around every corner. We didn’t use the onsen but is reportedly a highlight with an indoor and outdoor option (men and women separate) in a beautiful setting.

The futons were a little on the thin side but only stayed one night so was okay.

We loved everything about our two nights stay at Iwaso. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The room and view was amazing. The way we were greeted and shown to our room and given green tea and a cookie. We wore the traditional robes to dinner and the outdoor onsen was a such a once in a lifetime experience. As a plus size lady I was nervous but it was very peaceful, I went just after 10pm and got the outdoor onsen to myself. Breakfast and dinner were exceptional! All the individual dishes were explained to us it was an interactive experience and tasty! We only spent two nights here but I’m already planning another trip. It’s the most beautiful and peaceful part of our trip. Please stay here you don’t regret it!

We loved it all!

1) Room was exceptional traditional Japanese (i.e., sleep on futon on the floor) ---> upper floor corner with a great view! 2) Included dinner and breakfast were sumptuous traditional Japanese fare. 3) Location was near everything ---> short walk to Mt. Misen Ropeway and Shrine and Torii Gate ---> hotel provided a free shuttle from/to Ferry Dock.

Onsen e camera molto belli

Everything from start to finish, we arrived very late due to some flight cancellations and needed to rearrange the itinerary, which meant we did not arrive in Miyajima via Ferry until around 8/9 pm. Their was a gentleman waiting at the port for us in a beautiful navy jute with the hotel banner held up. What an absolute relief. He came rushing over as soon as we acknowledged him, and he took our luggage . Within 6 mins, we arrived at the hotel. The reception was kept open, the lady at the reception we super tentative and understanding and even asked whether we had eaten or required dinner. She even took us around our room and explained everything to us.

I have to say, everything was magnificent!

La amabilidad del personal. El momento Onsen, donde todo está organizado y limpio, ese momento para cuidarte, con todo tipo de necesidades cubiertas, es un placer.

Por decir algo, que el desayuno no te de opción occidental, nos costó un poco el tomar un desayuno tan distinto al nuestro.

Les chambres se trouvent dans un bâtiment en béton de plusieurs étages, avec couloirs impersonnels de type hotel bas de game. Les chambres ne sont pas authentiques, mais décorées (il y a longtemps...) type ryocan. La salle de restaurant est très impersonnelle, pas jolie du tout...

Exceptional stay. The room was quiet and the staff is very professional. The food at the restaurant was very delicate, I recommend this accommodation without hesitating.

Beautiful property on a beautiful island steeped in history. Staff was friendly and meals outstanding. Our recommendation for improvement would be to consider newer futons as these were abit hard in comparison to other ryokans we stayed in during our wonderful Japan visit!

Le bar en face de l'hôtel. En effet, faire payer une taxe de 1000 yens par personnes (en + de votre verre) aux clients du Ryokan est regrettable, surtout pour 15 min avant d'aller prendre le repas du soir. Il ne devrait pas y avoir de taxe pour vos clients. Donc je déconseille fortement le bar. Idem pour les taxes accommodation (qui sont minimes mais en + au check out) Malgré ces détails je reviendrai

Le personnel est adorable du début à la fin. Ils sont venus nous chercher au Ferry, nous y a ramené, et cela toujours dans une très bonne humeur et un délai irréprochable. Le Onsen très bien équipé, très joli et propre. Très bien positionné pour les randonnées et la visite de la ville.

Pas de choix pour le restaurant. Il faut aimer le poisson sous toutes ses formes.

Ero nelle stanze storiche e sono molto tradizionali. Tutto curato, la grazia è la bellezza.l Onsen mai affollata 3 volte sono andata sempre da sola. Cene curate 3 ottime.

Dovrebbe essere vietato ai bambini sotto ai 10 anni. In questo posto si cerca pace, due cene con 2 bambini urlanti. Due buste di caffè in camera sarebbero gradite da noi occidentali x la mattina! 🤣 Non c’è modo di oscurare la luce che filtra dal corridoio in camera, per chi dorme al buio completo un piccolo incubo .
