Le dîner était parfait
Pas le confort et le service d’un 5 étoiles
Lovely Hotel and staff
Very good

Fantastic staff and delicious food
Breakfast choices were very good, I chose the ARH special omlette which was excellent, as I needed to leave for the airport in the early morning the considerate staff took the order in the evening in order not to loose any time. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were well stocked and provided ample choices.
nothing that I could think of
It’s not what it looks like in the pics it’s a dingy old house
Food is overpriced $90 Canadian just for a dinner
Beautiful room with lovely amenities. Has a pool and a gym and a lovely restaurant
Too short
Nichts. Alles perfekt!
Amazing pick up, great staff, amazing food, comfortable room.
Top notch boutique hotel in a gated area of Kempton Park. Pictures are of Suite 1 which has a beautiful private courtyard & can be viewed from a jetted tub in the bathroom.
It’s clean

Zo gastvrij en behulpzaam , fantastische shuttle service naar de luchthaven.
Lovely boutique hotel, my second stay there. As a solo traveller I appreciate this kind of hotel, lovely rooms, excellent food and very friendly atmosphere - and had a fabulous neck and shoulder massage Will be back again next year
Wonderful boutique hotel. Perfect for an overnight stay before or after flight into/ from JNB
What a great place and outstanding staff. They let me stay in my room until 5pm when I left for my flight. I was sitting by the pool when a lovely man asked if I wanted lunch but I wasn't that hungry. He then offered me a snack. Yes! He made me a chicken salad sandwich and chips. I felt like royalty.
Thanks to the driver who picked me up at the airport at 3am after a six hour delay in my flight! Despite the delay she was friendly and happy to help out. The hotel is really close to the airport, but not in the flight path, so there is no noise. The rooms are beautifully styled and the food was really nice. All the staff were most helpful. I will need to come back to try the spa another time (-;
Lovely little hotel with welcoming staff and a large, clean bedroom and bathroom. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived as during the drive to the hotel we were a little concerned about the location but on arrival very impressed with what we found. Dinner and breakfast were very tasty with a good choice given how small the hotel/restaurant is. The only thing to consider is that it is away from Jo'burg centre so whilst very handy for the airport, it would be difficult to go in to the city to explore depending on flight times. Also, the area is not somewhere you felt you could walk around to explore other restaurants - not because it felt unsafe but because it didn't feel there was anything to see close by.
Excellent boutique hotel. Spacious room, quiet & serene. Tons of ambiance! Excellent food. Owners have a personal touch & very hands on in the business.
Staff are very friendly, location is ok, 30 minutes from the airport. Rooms are nice and well serviced. But it’s way way overpriced for what it is. Our stay was booked as an add on to an African Safari tour. I have travelled to over 50 countries and stayed in some 5 star hotels and resorts, this is not one of them. To pay $500-$600 AU a night for these rooms is ludicrous. Rooms are not large, only average furnishings and fittings. You will get a lot better value for money staying at suite at a Hilton, Marriott or Hyatt. For similar money or even less you will get a two room suite in Johannesburg.
Lovely stay, awesome room! Highly recommend 🌼🌼🌼
Excellent boutique hotel that provides oasis in Jo-berg near the airport
From the minute I was met at the airport by Lucky I was made to feel welcome. The short airport transfer in an air conditioned minivan was quick and pleasant to this gorgeous boutique hotel with a bird filled tropical garden. On arrival online check in was professional and quick. Dinner at the Blue Hippo Restaurant was world class and the lanterns in the garden around the pool created a fabulous ambience, so homely and inviting. The interior decor of the hotel including the double volume executive suite were extremely tasteful and luxurious. Highly recommend at least 2 nights to overcome jet lag and enjoy the spa treatments available at the spa upstairs. You will be well looked after by the whole team at this hidden gem, their attention to detail will impress any intrepid traveller.
Rooms not 5star, not value for money. Food very expensive
Excellent location, with excellent service. Allowed us a complementary room while waiting for our flight.
This hotel is absolutely Devine. The room is perfect The staff are incredible The bathroom is beyond expectations The food was fantastic We all loved this hotel and we wished we had more time perfect hotel for any occasion!! Thank you so much
Wonderful oasis. Staff couldn’t be nicer and more attentive. Great food, an overall fabulous place to stay for my last night in Africa.
Fabulous overnight stay on layover. Fabulous staff and incredible food and wine. Only regret is it was too short.
My wife and I stayed for one night at African Rock Hotel and Spa as we needed somewhere to stay between flights, however we wish we could have stayed for more. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and our room was truly stunning. We wanted a very relaxing nights rest before flying again the next day and that’s exactly what we got. Would 100% stay again.
Excellent pick up and return service from airport to hotel - distance about 20 minutes, charming rooms, good service, food is cooked on the spot, a good place to relax at least one night if you are going or coming from a long journey in South Africa.
We stayed two nights to start our South African and Turkish family adventure! Having only 1 full day in Jo'burg, we wanted to just stick close to the airport, but did not want a typical airport hotel. African Rock Hotel & Spa checked all of our boxes! After LONG travel, they had a driver pick us up upon arrival at the airport and upon arrival at the property our room was ready. Check-in was quick and efficient and our family room (room 11) was a pleasant surprise, as it was large and gave us plenty of space (4 & 7 year old boys in tow!). The property is small in size, but large in character and charm! A very intimate setting with plenty of places to relax - from your room, to the pool, to the upstairs reading/game lounge there is a spot for everyone. To top everything off, since we booked direct with them, we had a short welcome massage for both of us upstairs in the spa area - it was delightful! One of the only down falls of our stay is we did not have enough time to enjoy a full spa service! As for food, we did not have a bad meal! Being such a small property, the staff or even the chef as it was one afternoon, comes and takes our orders. They offer unique local dishes, as well as some more standard fare. Both breakfast and dinners were delicious!!! We did take advantage of a tour through African Rock - a full day exploring the cradle of humankind area. I will review Johan, our guide, and his outfit African Timeout in a separate review, but he was world class, thus I would not hesitate to let African Rock help with your tour needs! The gift shop at AR is also a pleasant surprise, as for a boutique property, they had some really unique shopping offerings. Additionally, the owner does art on the side and most of the pieces throughout the rooms and property are hers - and available for purchase! We would 100% stay again when/if passing through Jo'burg! A pleasant thanks to the entire African Rock team! It was a GREAT start to our 17 days away from home!
The beauty of this hotel lies in its grounds and its cuisine. In fact, I was a little put off by the cramped dining area and definitely by the gray carpet and somewhat tacky furnishings of Room 1 when we arrived at night. The next morning, I changed my tune. The gardens are thickly lush and well-tended. The outdoor tables are comfortable and, at dinner, a lovely fire crackled. We actually felt like we had a private chef since the only other couple ate early before an international flight. We stopped by the homey kitchen to discuss her recommendations. My extremely tender springbok was from a local farm. The veggies were perfect as was the sauce. Dessert was delicious. My husband enjoyed his fish, not at all overcooked as can happen, and the papaya salsa served with it. In the morning the lattes were excellent and my husband pronounced the everything omelette the best he’d ever eaten. Not least, Dineo, the driver helped us with a pharmacy and optician in a very proactive, professional and persistent way. She’s a gem.
Had an amazing stay! It’s a beautiful hotel with incredible staff who go above and beyond!!
Lovely small hotel with great service. The gardens make you feel a million miles away, the open fire takes the chill off in the evening. Very well decorated with some original art works Would definitely stay again thank you. We only stayed for one night as a stop over but again a very good hotel.
If you want to feel like you "have arrived in Africa", instead of staying at the run-of-the-mill international chain hotels near the airport, you should consider African Rock. The hotel is small and quiet with a personable and professional staff. They have an excellent chef- the highlight for me on our stay was springbok carpaccio and excellent beef fillet. The rooms are luxurious with heated bathroom floors and towel rails. The photos by other reviewers are accurate. And they offer free transfers to/from the airport - about 20-minute drive each way. This was my 3rd stay and I look forward to returning.
Love everything about this hotel. It’s beautifully appointed, the staff is amazing, the location perfect for getting to and from the airport (with zero airport noise).
The only problem was that we couldn’t stay longer.
Luxury stay with Airport transfer highly recommended.
My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Part of our itinerary include spending one night at the ARH on our inbound journey and one night on our outbound journey. The ARH is an absolutely first class hotel which offers amazing facilities, customer service and food all provided by very efficient and extremely friendly staff. The service starts with an airport meet & greet and transport to the hotel. Our respective drivers were very good and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were allocated the same room on both our separate stays and it was superb. We had three meals on each of the days we stayed at the hotel the quality of all of them was amazing prepared by knowledgeable chefs. On our first stay we had Springbok for our mains and it was awesome and there is no wonder Lions like it! My wife and I also took time to use the hotel's Spa and she commented that her facial treatment was the best she has ever experienced. My massage was also very good and relieved and took away the strains and aches from our long flight getting to South Africa. This trip was going to be once in a lifetime but we loved it so much that we are planning to return next year and we will definitely be calling in at the African Rock Hotel again!
Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Food options were amazing. Would highly recommend
When we arrived greeted and treated kind with respect. Helpful staff. Great room with coffee bar and extras. The food is top of line and they accommodate food sensitivities with grace. They go above and beyond. Hence we are staying here again :)
Wonderful small hotel in safe location. Hotel is lovely and clean, with large rooms and a beautiful pool area. We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Would recommend to anyone needing somewhere to base themselves.
We needed a hotel close to the airport and ARH offered free transfers to and from. Johannesburg is a little scary at night and we were pleased to have safe transfers and to be within a gated community at the hotel. Beautiful hotel - few rooms and very comfortable and modern.
Nothing - we had a brilliant stay.
Just a wonderful place to stay! Very nice Spa, great food , special gift shop, extremely helpful and warm and friendly staff. We were only there one night , but will return again. We would choose to stay there instead of the airport hotel, it’s convenient and they offer a free shuttle.
Everything was great. We were surprised at the quality of food given the smallness of this boutique hotel. Also an excellent and reasonable gift shop
Nothing. All was great. Also thoroughly enjoyed the spa, the massage was excellent.
Good location, limited parking and breakfast was basic with limited options. No gluten fee or lactose free options.
Difficult to find with poor signage. Dinner was very limited with options and was very bland. The rooms aircon was dripping inside all night so could not be used. The TV switched itself on 4 times during the night (loadshedding?) which led to a disrupted sleep. At ZAR4K / night this is not a value for money option. At that price the Intercon at ORT is a better option as is the nearby Radisson.
Excellent breakfast and friendly staff
everything
This is a cracking little gem of a hotel. All the staff are super friendly, the food is excellent and has a personal touch from the chef's. Rooms are very comfortable and sitting in the garden in front of the wood fire after dinner was so relaxing. The spa treatments are highly recommended. All in all a perfect place to stay. Will be back when we are back in the area. Thank you for a great stay.
Stayed for one night on a layover for flights at Tambo. Could not recommend this place more highly. Unique small boutique hotel in safe location with all the amenities. Ease of access to/from airport with friendly and helpful drivers - even helping with my luggage and walking me through check-in to ensure no problems before they left. On-site staff thorough and accommodating. Dinner and breakfast high quality food and service. Room clean and interesting.
I love this hotel. After 10 years of going to various hotels around the airport I finally found the one that I will return to time and again. The owners are amazing and treat you like old friends. The hotel is luxurious and makes you feel special.
One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in.
Beautiful room and lovely staff. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Lovely staff; they couldn’t do enough to help. Picked us up late at night from train and thereafter looked after us superbly. This is a small boutique hotel which is an oasis of peace, close to the main airport. Highly recommended.
Very convenient to airport. Room is somewhat small. Only access is via exterior. Not good if it rains. Food is mixed in quality. Did a very good game dish. Breakfasts were not very good.
I love African Rocks Hotel! I trusted the other reviews and they were right. The driver Kelvin who met us and the airport was wonderful, friendly and professional, the cook Christine was so welcoming and the food was excellent; it was like having a private chef! The hotel itself is lovely, serene, clean modern, and the perfect stop after a long transatlantic flight. Highly recommended.
Stayed the evening before departing S.A. Found Africian Rock Hotel to be in a secure area; owners introduced themselves and welcomed us; all staff were obliging, helpful and friendly; great pickup/ drop off service for airport; Christine, the chef prepared an absolutely delicious 5 course meal. Would recommend.
Our stay at the hotel for 2 nights was very pleasant. The staff was helpful and offered to shuttle us to a couple of different places. Unfortunately, we were under the impression that the shuttle service was complimentary because there was no mention of a cost associated with the service. It was a surprise to see some very expensive charges for the shuttle services. Other than that, our experiences were all positive.
We visited Johannesburg twice, and to be honest, there is not much to do there. Therefore, in our second visit, we decided, to be far from the center and relatively close to the airport. We chose ARH, which was just perfect - the room was huge and comfortable, the shower was great, the view and the pool area were amazing, and the food was perfect. If I'll come again to Johanesburg I will not think twice on which hotel to choose.
