Nothing
Location was OK. Everything else just OK. Nothing particularly good. Reception staff very helpful.
Bit dated. Bed had dips in mattress. Wardrobe door hanging off. Only 1 night stay so OK for what we needed.
Breakfast very poor No fresh fruit only tinned , eggs and toast only other items worth eating, got off to bad start by reception saying we didn’t have free parking Bowe booked with Booking. Com . We had a terrible room with terrible uncomfortable bed and disgusting curtains. Room 150 Toorak , we also had to pay for use of gym
Everything , I don’t understand everyone gave good reviews
Friendliness of the staff.Quality of the food.Cleanliness of the hotel. Location.
Nothing.
Great location very clean and welcoming
Could do with an update in some areas
Good pools nice food
Everything closed to early, not enough staff around
Hotel, complex with the indoor swimming pool & gym is good
Everything was average, not a stand out hotel, bit basit, but with use of pool, jacuzzi & gym, made up the stay good
Beds were comfortable
The place smelled of smoke especially in the lift.
Breakfast was acceptable. Swimming pool was a good size and the jacuzzi was good.
Place looks very tired and in bad state of repair in places. Window frames were rotten and single glazed, so traffic seemed quite loud at night. Even the floor on the long trek to the leisure facilities felt rotten underfoot, with definite holes in places. Doors all felt sticky and looked dirty. Seemed to be popular with bowlers and groups of older people there for dancing and entertainment.
Not a lot
It was dated, tatty, the windows in our bedroom were black, noisy, swimming pool was dirty and freezing.
Bed was comfy
Everything was old and dated, windows falling apart holes in floor and ceiling above bed Bathroom floor all pulled up
Pool, breakfast.
The carpark sign in at reception is pointless. Why tell the receptionist your reg and details just for you to have type this in yourself on another screen?? The window frame was rotten, wallpaper falling off, no fridge, no smart TV, no USB sockets, no shampoo or shower gel. Lights were noisy. Our wedding invite reference number took us to the website that was almost twice the price of booking.com. I had assumed, if anything, that wedding guests/booking directly would have been cheaper. Found Inna - the Abby restaurant 'supervisor or manger' to be rude and very unfriendly.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was a very spacious double bed room with terrace. The room and hotel in general was clean. Lovely breakfast. My 12 yr old son loved the onsite arcade and bowling. Good location for the beach, ferry and high street shops My son and I spent 3 nights and we really had a good experience.
Great swimmimg pool & sauna
A little tired in places
Good facilities
Very dated and needs a bit of tlc
Ok
The outdated furnishing , needs improving
Breakfast.
Outdated, dirty, indoor pool cold, beds uncomfortable, staff miserable.
Hotel good but needs abit of of work doing to it very tired staff where excellent so helpful
Good location, good breakfast , friendly staff
We stayed at the Toorak for a few days whilst visiting friends that live in Paignton . Our room was brilliant served our needs with a walk in shower . Met duty manager Yurll during our stay and he dealt with our queries with speed , was a very competent young man . The food was very nice and nothing was too much trouble . All staff were very polite . We went to the Derwent to see the entertainment during our stay in the evenings , nice to be able to Access this internally . Whilst staying we caught the train along the coast from Paignton to Exmouth lovely ride all along the coast . We would be pleased to stay here again . Thanks to one and all . 😊
Everything
Mattress was alittle uncomfortable.
The staff and how friendly they all were, the room was lovely and clean .
N/A
Simple and comfortable, clean bedding and towels, super friendly staff, good parking, excellent pool, basically I had everything right there without needing to leave to look for anything else to do... the evenings were a lot of fun with bingo and a live show.
Staff were excellent. Room was very good. Bathroom large and plenty of hot water. Lovely touch with good quality tea and biscuits in room. Reception staff very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Staff were smart, attentive and friendly. Facilities are excellent for leisure.
Not a lot, poor customer service from reception staff and the hotel was grubby.
The recpetion staff were not friendly to my colleagues and made assumptions based on there work attire... Hopefully other guests were not treated the same way. We would not be returning on future works we have down in Torquay in the coming months which would have been 3 more stays for two nights at a time.
Staff were excellent, great location.
Shower was awful 😕
Everything from pools to food and very pleasant staff and little outsude patio at our room no 32
Do not book - poor customer service re Noise in room from wedding which we could have been warned about when booking. We recently stayed at TLH alongside my wife and 1 year old son. This was our first summer holiday together, which I decided on based on experiences staying at the Toorak hotel as a child. We booked in the last couple of weeks before stayed, a terraced room, which meant my wife and I could enjoy a drink on the terrace in the evening whilst my son would sleep. Despite informing the hotel via to original booking, and on the phone when paying for the room, which was over £720 for the weekend, at no point did the hotel inform us that despite choosing to stay in the first floor room, a wedding would be taking place directly below. Music was so loud on the Saturday night, the floorboards would vibrate, lasting between 7 and 11:30pm. I raised my concern with Youri working at hotel reception at the time, who passed it on to their reservations team, I also followed this up in writing. The room was unusable during this time and we had to take our son out in the pram for the evening. Returning shortly before 10pm, with the music still going, a sign was placed in reception about the wedding, either in response to other complaints or because of what we raised. The terrace also unusable to us as it overlooked the wedding smoking area which was used persistently. I did not hear back from them until Monday evening, despite chasing up several times. Stephanie Payne, replied which was vague, explaining that they are a seaside town hotel and would review their processes for future weddings. Perhaps another hotel room for the hours the event was on the help my son settle could have been a simple solution. An apology days later is just simply not acceptable, for something that they should have forewarned us about as we would not have paid to stay here with a baby. If I wanted Benidorm vibes, we would have gone there! If thats what your after, ask to stay here in a terrace room on a wedding night. Staff have just kicked this issue down the road, until we left. As I mentioned, £720 for this hotel, with no warning of a wedding taking place below when booking, these rooms should be given to the wedding party, not a family with a small baby, knowing loud music will be on for several hours. As for their response, I take it as, we have you money, who cares and get over it.. As I said, an additional room offering, or an extra night (they had availability on their website) to make up for the disturbance could have been sorted. Overall appalling service and it’s gone downhill since I first visited many years ago.
It's a great place for all ages and so much to do. I've been many times now to all the hotels in the complex . Food is always great too.
All good
We liked the playroom for the kids, the location, we had a sea view room, we liked the pool , lovely entertainment too , good for families
We didn't like the parking, at night it was very loud, difficult to fall asleep, bedrooms are okay, but very dated , that's why I think it was a bit expensive for what it is. It's an old dated hotel,
All the facilities
The corridors in need of a tlc
it was a nice breakfast we were two families and could sit altogether The hotel had the right amount of tradition mixed with a relaxed stmosphere that is good for families with children
Alittle dated and shabby in certain parts of the hotel Our room was very nice and our two sons with their children had lovely rooms
Rooms were clean albeit a little old fashioned. Staff were very helpful - however, the menu could have a little more variety. Overall, a decent stop.
All the staff were very friendly, right down to the caretakers saying hello when passing in the corridor. Fantastic facilities, clean well kept environment. Amazing value for money.
Location
You have to pay for the parking to park in the hotel. You pay if you book through booking.com which is 10£ a day. and if you book hotel directly through them no charges. which is weird. and parking is small so when is busy you might park outside. No fridge in the room.
It was good to have both an outdoor pool and a very large indoor pool available. The room was a good size and the staff were helpful.
This is a very large hotel complex and I had difficulty finding the reception for my part of the hotel. The hotel is in need of renovation in several areas, particularly the windows and balconies. Although I paid for breakfast in the restaurant the day before, the waiter had no record of my booking and I was made to wait for ten minutes before they would let me sit down, even though I showed them my receipt. . Overall, it was probably fine for families with children but for me, as a lone traveller, it was only okay.
Dirty carpets
The food is exceptional value for money
Need to pay for parking which was not appraent to me when making the reservation. Pillows are flat and old. Staff can be very moody or be extremely friendly - depending on the person
The Toorak Hotel is part of the TLH Complex, as an individual hotel it is a little dated but very clean, comfortable and the food was excellent. Plenty of choice for breakfast on a self service basis then a three course dinner served to you with ample choices and very good portions then tea or coffee if needed. There is a good bar with plenty of seating together with an outside seating area. The main lounge we found very comfortable and excellently quiet as most residents head out to the Derwent Hotel for entertainment. There are three floors of bedrooms, mine was on the ground floor and I found it very quiet later in the evening.it was serviced 5 days in the week and kept very clean. Good hot water system and lovely soft towels. Tea/coffee, TV, hair dryer, even a large fan available in the room. I found the staff very friendly and helpful and would recommend this holiday as very good value. The sea front is about 5 minutes walk away, plenty of service buses, taxis, boat rides to different bays and towns I travelled there wth Wilfreda Coaches from Doncaster.
Overnight stay - got to say we had a great time and would definitely return. Plenty of parking (£10 fee for 1 night, but still good value). Warm welcome from reception and the friendly service from staff continued, all very good. Room was a great size and clean. Bed was huge and comfortable. Bathroom was dated and the shower wasn’t the best (low pressure and shower head wouldn’t raise). Breakfast was very good, and staff replenished in good time. Location was also good, a short stroll to the seafront.
Very good value for money, excellent facilities. Food was very good.
Only thing we could mention was needs modernisation. This is believe they are starting
Spa was lovely
Rooms need to be updated
nothing like what on web site. not the same hotel at all. Very Dated. if this was the best hotel in Torquay I would hate to see the rest. . Very old fashioned. Rooms were adequate in size but only one power point working. A group of us and none had a good work to day about it . We were not expecting a mansion but stay away.
It was neat and felt like a home
In my opinion what sells this hotel is the staff always so friendly and very welcoming. This is my third stay here and the familiar staff make it memorable 😃
The room was a little warm, although a fan was provided(room 144)
Breakfast was ok once they were finally able to seat us. Basic options but hot and edible
The decor is massively dated, rooms dated and not in good condition. The worst smell coming from the pool area.
Had good aura
It was good
Swimming pool close too town centre clean
Rooms could do with update in Toorak bed was too small and deffo needed a small fridge in rooms
Good breakfast and facilities.
Car parks
Big room staff was nice
Old dated abit needs a makeover like a maze
Friendly staff.fantastic facilities and activities for all the family, young and old.nice comfortable rooms.lovely food.wish we could have stayed longer!!
Nothing
Room nice and clean.
Staff on restaurant door on the saturday night and sunday morning especially very rude. Breakfast very greasy, made us have a funny stomach, second morning we just had toast and non cooked food. Very un disabled friendly. Old hotel i understand but the windows could do with a bit of work and no plugs either side of the bed.
Good location and the bedroom was very good!
Car park chargers
Excellent hotel with staff to match . Food was superb and room was large and very clean. Very much recommend this hotel . My only observation is that we have visited TLH x3 times this year and the one thing that lets the complex down is the visiting entertainment in the Starlight lounge at the Derwent hotel. The hotel entertainment team are very good but the visiting acts really need to improve, sadly , they are local pub quality at best. The leisure complex is superb with two good indoor pools .
Very warm welcome then get told go to paid £10 for parking ! Not been here for over 20 years looks the same! Think the carpet needs a good clean !! Room very hot and loud people getting back to the rooms drunk at 1am shouting ! Breakfast was okay though it would be a plated Breakfast! Very expensive var prices and Albert's var very odd and drink was really bad 👎 would stay again loads to do in the hotel !
The hotel was old and looked like a rundown care home. Only 1 lift in the building. Most of the the staff were rude. Menu was limited, first evening meal there was nothing I liked. We got told off coz we were late for evening meal ( we were in the time limit ).Breakfast I ordered vegan sausages came out while I was eating my cereal went cold, second morning order again this time I never got the vegan sausages. Room was big but very dusty. Bedding was dirty and the cover was ripped. Toilet seat not put on properly. We were not told that the entertainment was in another hotel nor did they show us the way, very unprofessional all around. There is so much to write about. It was supposed to be Motown Soul weekend , I expected more, not just pub singers. For what I paid for the weekend it’s not worth the value. Poor value. I will not stay in this Hotel again which is based in Torquay.
The room we stayed in was so badly in need of a face lift. Apricot coloured bath suite, white toilet seat? Strange colour choice. Room was clean, but dark furniture made room look gloomy. Tiles in bathroom need grouting, mould along bath. Mattress was solid. Lift kept breaking down. I ended up carrying suit cases up and down for some of the older guests on the Sunday morning. Evening meal in the Abbey Restaurant was terrible, microwave vegetables, roast potatoes soggy, possibly not freshly cooked that day. Chocolate fudge cake was in fact Chocolate cake, which was solid, only 3 choices? For what food we got was very expensive. The experience that was advertised, was way off the mark. The staff though were very friendly, polite and helpful. They were always smartly dressed and looked professional. Entertainment in the Starlight lounge was good. Bar staff worked very hard, but kept a sense of humour. I understand that money is tight to do up the hotel, but at least make it look more attractive, get rid of the hazard tape on the carpets, re-lay the patio slabs, very dangerous. Basic attention to detail would go a long way. There is a lot of competition in Torquay for hotels, the Toorak I'm afraid is dropping below the curve and will be left behind.
Very warm weather but no water in rooms. Basic fan provided only. Room had steps up to the bathroom. Bath only with shower attachment. Food was very poor. No evidence of active management presence. Stairs up to the room. No lift and heavy bags had to be carried up and down by people of all ages. No housekeeping Wednesday and Sunday for some reason. Apparently entertainment was available but little effort was made to communicate this. Little interaction with staff generally. 1970s decor. Hotel in need of a major renovation.
Great pools, great location, lovely staff and fun day and evening entertainment.
Could do with updating rooms and some facilities but overall loved my stay and will definitely book again
very very clean 🥰
Замечательный персонал, идут на встречу, помогают.
Для людей на коляске сложно, лифт до нижнего этаже зоны СПА не работал.
Een verrassend Resort van 4 of 5 samengestelde hotels. Heerlijke authentieke Engelse glorie. Elk hotel heeft zijn eigen charme en daarbij behorende populatie Engelsen.
Dat de bar tijdens de WK wedstrijden van Engeland gesloten was.
The only real thing that I liked was the location which was ideal for me to walk to the seafront
It is dated
The position of hotel was perfect. The room was good size
On first arriving we enquired about parking at the Carlton hotel and was unfortunately met with a hostile receptionist and again the parking at the hotel was not very good .and adequate. Also feel that all hotels needed a massive upgrade as all parts of the hotels were looking run down..
The outside pool was great but could do with a few more sunbeds and parasols
The building is a bit tired. Many of the windows could do with replacing.
Locations
The building was dated and literally falling down around us - room had cracks in walls the windows were rotten the indoor swimming pool was under repair with scaffolding and nets up. The carpet by the lift was rotten. The shower in the room was a trickle and once hot couldn’t get it cold.

Booked as a last minute getaway and it exceeded our expectations. Friendly staff on reception, allowed us to check in half hour early. Room clean and functional. It was hot but there was a fan in the wardrobe which was welcomed. Breakfast good and overall great value for money. Amazing indoor pool, outdoor pool was nice too and it was super hot for some sunbathing. I can imagine in school hols it would get very busy in the pools. Will definitely return at some point.
Reception and bar staff were lovely. breakfast was tasty
Decor really needs updating, indoor pool opening/closing times need to be displyed better. Booked this hotel for indoor pool was open until 9pm and only had 1 night with my daughter for abit of a chill out time, however pool closed early due to removal of scaffolding, left disappointed.
Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel was very clean, room was very big, staff were friendly, beautiful pools, steam room, sauna and hot tub. Will definitely be back.
Having to pay for parking as we booked through booking.com.
Location, facilities.
Dated. Needs refurbishment.
The staff were really great
Bed rock solid, pool dirty, service at restaurant really slow, everything very outdated
We have stayed here before and our room with sea view didn’t disappoint. The outdoor pool was welcome as it was a warmer stay although it’s not heated so you have to brace yourself and I was really disappointed the indoor pools and facilities were all closed without notice during our stay.
Very, very dissatisfied to learn on arrival that all indoor pools were closed. It is the type of thing that should be made clear when booking, just an apology and no offer of anything to substitute other than the outdoor pool being open (it’s COLD) to the point my 5 year old had blue lips!! They just said the outdoor pool was open and it would be open longer. If I had known I wouldn’t have booked as we would prefer either a heated outdoor pool or an indoor pool to complement.
Near the beach and good value for money. Room was big and clean
You’re entering faulty towers here…dated and creaky experience with housekeeping knocking early on your bedroom door. a bit of a funky smell after their spray wore off but seriously you won’t find better value - would recommend. Disappointing that we were charged £10 for parking only because we booked through booking.com.
Lovely classic British hotel old skool feeling. Quality room and carpet. A bath with plug Ans slot of hot water , rare nowadays ! High quality fittings. Do not expect modern this hotel is traditional quality. With modern twist. Lovely spa and leisure area. Beautiful gardens . Stunning views. Great location and professional staff. Top quality.
Nothing
Staff were very friendly and helpful
Nothing
Convenient location. Evening entertainment dated but better than nothing.
Staff. Rude receptionist greeted us with.. oh your booking.com so you have to pay for parking. Not that I needed parking as all the surrounding streets have plenty free parking. Restaurant staff in Toorak unbelievably rude and clearly didn’t want to be doing the job. Sarcastic, rude and disrespectful. If you don’t want to be front of house and deal with the public there’s always plenty other jobs to do. Did make a complaint but ‘manager’ equally useless and made endless excuses about recruitment etc. not my problem.
We stayed at the Toorak for the first time last weekend.. 5th to 8th June 2026.. couldnt fault it.. Had a reserved parking space and ground floor room.Everything was good.. bed comfortable and walk in shower bathroom.. It was a dancing weekend having previously only stayed in the Victoria we didnt mind the half mile corridor walk to the Ballroom at the Victoria.. Food was excellent and they offered small portions which suited us..Rooms serviced on 2 days.. plenty of milk.. Staff very pleasant and helpfull.. We would definatly stay again.. 4 stars from us..
Lots of options for things to do.
Shame the steam room and jacuzzi were closed as this was part of why we booked and the pool could have been warmer.
Everything but the weather beyond control by the hotel staff. Keep up the good work guys and girls
Location indoor pools
Not enuf sun loungers or seats around outdoor pool
The location was perfect, and amazing weather. The hotel did everything we expected for the price we paid. Breakfast was great, as were the staff. The pools were good too!
The hotel is in desperate need of a makeover. The carpets, windows, skirting boards all flaking all completely out of date but we knew this from the reviews before booking, but it didnt change the fact we had a lovely stay.
We always enjoy coming here
Lots of things not working. Lifts saunas etc. roof of swimming pool covered in scaffolding. Service in our hotel was poor at breakfast. Did not collect plates at at all during meal.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve stayed in the Derwent, Victoria and Carlton but this was our first time in the Toorak, yes the hotel is a bit tired but everything is working and clean, reception wasn’t all that welcoming 😬 but the food was first class, I let them know as a vegetarian that I don’t eat pasta or garlic and a menu was made just for me, and very nice it was too, plenty of choice at breakfast and helpful staff quickly clearing up, we loved our stay here 😍
