Quinta da Abelheira

The staff was so welcoming. The pool was divine. The breakfast was delicious. What a beautiful spread! Our room, Graciosa, was perfect for us. We would happily return to Quinta de Abelheira!

There was no receptionist on site to accommodate us. Called the number provided and nobody answered. Finally someone called back and said they would be there in a few.Never showed up , felt very unsafe, place was in the middle of nowhere,wife very nervous.Had to walk to nearby house was ask for assistance.

Really nice comfortable room. Very large and spacious. Bed was firm, and wooden frame and furniture added to the decor and style. This was a room in the upper part of the hotel, exit the balcony and you have a view of the ocean. Bathroom was nice and large. Big tv and lots of move channels. Breakfast selection was pretty much the same daily, but it was really good and extensive. The dining room was amazing. And next to it is a lounge where one can sit in a tastefully decorated room and enjoy the view. Tips for improvement: Add another shelf in the bathroom under the sink to store amenities. And definitely get a separate shampoo and shower gel dispenser - an all in one doesn’t say classy. The staff is nice and friendly. There are cats outside who will enjoy your company. I would definitely recommend the hotel. It is also not too far from the airport - but no restaurants/stores in walking distance (or I didn’t see any) and a car is a must to get around. Wifi was great. Pool had a good enough temperature. Thank you again! It was a lovely stay.

Great views. Quiet- but some road noise. 10-15 minute drive from Ponta Delgada center. Beautiful grounds, really enjoyed the property and the room.

We were there during the Christmas holiday, and there were only a few other guests. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was very welcoming. We had family in two different buildings and the rooms were perfect. Everyone enjoyed gathering for breakfast. It's a lovely, quite private property, yet close to town.

The property is picturesque and the staff are very welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay. I would recommend having your own vehicle as the restaurants etc are not within easy walking distance.

I cannot say enough good things about the team at Quinta da Abelheira. They were helpful, responsive, and extremely accommodating. We spent 4 nights at the hotel, which was a great home base for our time in Sao Miguel. The breakfast was superb, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!

For breakfast, you can choose from a very large selection of pastries, fruits, eggs, and many other local delicatessen. We had a pool suite with direct access to the pool site. It was enjoyable and relaxing. The pool bar allowed us to eat a decent wrap or soup without leaving our relaxing time. Taxi to Ponta Delgada is inexpensive.

an amazing last minute stay when our flight was cancelled, Fillipa was very helpful and accommodating , helping to call us taxis and navigate the city. the pool is lovely and refreshing and the morning breakfast buffet was delicious!

There are no storage options in the shower and bathroom. The breakfast was great, thank you.

Lovely family operated property with a more authentic Portuguese experience than staying in a bigger hotel. All staff were so pleasant and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast was excellent! Need a car to get around but well located to get off to all areas of the island. Highly recommend.

Would definitely recommend this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and cleaned every day. The breakfast buffet was amazing with lots of variety and the staff helped us to navigate what foods contained nuts to cater for an allergy. One morning we had to leave early for an excursion and so the staff opened up the breakfast buffet earlier. The views at breakfast are beautiful. The pool was lovely and there is an amazing poolside bar serving drinks including delicious cocktails as well as bar snacks such as sandwiches, chips and crisps! One afternoon we had the pool to ourselves and it was a little oasis. Private, secure car parking available on site. A few things that I would mention to improve our experience: there was one day when the pool was green in colour and so we didn’t use it. It was a normal colour the next day and it was clearly cleaned each day. I’m not sure why it turned green one day. The door on our room didn’t close properly unless locked so a small maintenance issue. General amenities in the rooms could be improved. It would be very helpful to have a fridge in the rooms. It is a bed and breakfast so you need to buy lunch and dinner on top. We went to nice restaurants for dinner but wanted to make up some sandwiches for our active days walking and a small fridge would have been amazing. A safe in the room would have been a great addition too to store jewellery and passports etc.

Was good until it was not. Not proper business practices and if they see your a foreigner they will take advantage unfortunately. Even when you make a trip for a family emergency.

Outstanding boutique bed and breakfast hotel, the staff were lovely, and the quality of the rooms was excellent. Pool area is excellent for a relaxing afternoon, the viewpoint is a short hike worth doing once, and the distance to downton Ponta Delgada was manageable. Would definitely stay here again!

Our stay was exceptional at the Quinta da abelheira! We were traveling with two families and ten people spread across a number of rooms. From the time we stepped foot on the property Filipa and Marlene were exceptional and always there if we needed anthing. Filipa helped rearrange rooms to acccomodate proximity to children and made us feel extremely welcome. She also provided tremendous help in planning out our day, helping get a taxi, and answering any questions we had. The property is really nice, swimming pool and pool bar very relaxing and an exception breakfast. Great spot to get into town (~10 min car ride) and out on a days adventure. Would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a place to stay in Sao Miguel.

The property is very beautiful with a nice pool and spacious rooms. The staff was incredibly accommodating and took terrific care of me. The included breakfast was also lovely and included a nice view overlooking Ponta Delgada.

From the moment i left the taxi i was greeted by Marlene with a huge smile and warm welcome. She offered a breakfast because it was only 9am when i arrived from Madrid. She made me feel very welcomed. Rebecca was the chef with the delightful breakfast all three days. A great way to start the day. Filip gave me excellent guidance on where to walk and what to see. She was so very helpful for my first time in Azores. The accommodation is close to city central and 20 minutes to the airport by taxi. A wonderful choice.

We stayed at Quinta da Abelheira for five days. All in all, it was an excellent experience. In particular, the staff is really serious about enhancing the stay. They are warm and engaged and full of local knowledge regarding restaurants and activities. Our first room was small and on the road. I would avoid this if possible. It was booked by our travel agent. The staff graciously found a way to move us to a different, very beautiful room, for which we were particularly grateful. The rooms are all clean and comfortable. There are small inconveniences in the rooms, like no bathrobes, no bar soap, no tissues, and no hand lotion. But these things are minor and outweighed by the really excellent staff. The pool is beautiful. The breakfast is spectacular. The location is really excellent in that it's close enough to Ponta Delgada for restaurants. But it's far enough away that it's quiet and tranquil. Also, being in the island's center, destinations on the northern, southern, or eastern sides are easily reachable. We would definitely recommend Quinta da Abelheira and we would stay there again.

Not very close to town, difficult if you don’t have a car but the staff is very helpful!!

We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel was clean and the staff were very welcoming. The breakfast was the best we had in Portugal but it lacked a variety of vegan options. The rooms were nice however felt damp. The shower seemed to leak which may have contributed to that. The sliding bathroom barn door was very noisy and not ideal when trying not to disturb others. The room could have used a luggage rack and microwave.

The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast is elaborate and delicious.

We have travelled and stayed in many places around the world. By far, this property is a gem. Several key details make Quinta da Abelheira a unique stay, starting with the staff. The front desk helped us arrange the most stupendous dinners at restaurants across the island. Not only did they easily and quickly give great suggestions, but they booked them all for us over the course of the week we were there. The second great detail is the breakfast. Not many places have daily included breakfasts with great views and a changing menu. It's one of the key reasons we booked the hotel and boy were we blown away by it. Fresh cheese, fruit, jams, and bread, not to mention on one day we had some meats they were grilling outside that morning. The room of course is breathtaking and extremely comfortable. It had two independent minisplit units (heating and cooling), fresh fruit daily, coffee, wine, and blackout shades. The grounds have gorgeous architecture, like the massive stone pillar in front of the pool. We heard the story of how that was brought in and thought it was extra cool (by crane, from the pineapple plantation next door). Finally and most intriguing is their EV van. The hotel has a brand new ID. Buzz from VW, with an onsite Level 2 charger. Coolest van ever. The cats are also nice.

Cannot say enough good things about this wonderful place. Room was gorgeous, setting and facilities are lovely, staff is super helpful. It’s just an A plus all around. Be aware that it isn’t right in town so you’re better off with a car or you can taxi — it’s not walkable.

Quinta da Abelheira is one of the few places we've stayed in all our years of travel that EXCEEDED our expectations. It's a lovely, historic estate with extensive and well-landscaped grounds and views of the ocean. You feel a sense of seclusion and safety, although the Azores feel very safe in general. There are rooms in the main house and a cluster of stand-alone rooms/suites, which are sleekly modern. We stayed in one of the suites, which was amazingly spacious and pristine and filled with amenities. We had a terrace and wonderful privacy. The breakfast, served in the main house, was very generous, one of the most generous we've encountered in our travels. But what really sets Quinta da Abelheira apart is the hospitality of its staff. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely friendly and intent on making us comfortable. But here we have to single out one person that made our stay special--our hostess Filipa. Her open-hearted friendliness and generous commitment of time to help us make the most of our stay was extraordinary. It reinforced our belief that one person's kindness can truly make an impact. The Quinta is not an inexpensive place to stay, but in our opinion it gives you full value for your Euros.

Beware of this hotel ...real or scam?? I made a reservation on their website in March, got a written confirmation with all details including the price , dates , length of stay , extra for rollaway bed etc..To finalize the booking, two choices was given : bank transfer or with credit cards. It was asked on the confirmation to send the credit card number via email to"reservas@azoreanbliss.com" (which I don't think it is safe to do) OR to call the Quinta to give my credit card number. For obvious security reasons, i've opted for the second choice. I've been trying for the last two weeks to call the phone numbers on their website, numerous times, unsuccessfully...no one ever picks up the phone. They have another email address "info@azoreanbliss.com". I got a totally different quote writing to this email ( Lucía was writing to me with c.c. to Felipe Frias ) for the same stay. The price was 60% more expensive. When I send over the written confirmation with a different pricing (cheaper), they NEVER write back to me till this day. I first find out about Quinta da Abelheira on Booking and Expedia. They have a very well made website. What attracts me to this Quinta is its location just outside of Ponta Delgada in a rural settings; beautifully appointed bedrooms and above all, their highly rated service....but my experience up to know leaves me with many doubts about their truth existence. Another disturbing facts: all travel websites ex : Booking, Expedia, Agoda, Priceline etc.. temporary excluded this Quinta from their platform during these two last weeks ( the message was " currently, no reservation can be made for this hotel on our website..". As of today, these websites allow again reservation for this Quinta but the reception are still unreadable by phone or by email. We've traveled as a family extensively around the globe. I've always planned my trips myself and this is the very first time I encountered such a bizarre situation. This hotel has five stars reviews n the past...I am wondering what has changed? This review is aimed to raise awareness among travellers of scams on the web.

This is a lovely place to stay just outside the main town on Sao Miguel. We loved it. The staff was warm and welcoming, and couldn’t have done more to have made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. Moura is a gem. The breakfast is fantastic, and after a day of hiking, we enjoyed relaxing by the pool. Highly recommended!

Just returned from a really relaxing visit to this exceptional property. Wonderful service from Joanna prior to arrival , with support and recommendations on restaurant bookings . Similarly highly personalised and excellent service from the team throughout our stay and a particular thanks to Pedro Our suite was perfect - modern design, extremely comfortable and well thought out living space. We chose azores for our 25 year wedding anniversary, the staff at Quinta da Abelheira was very helpful, helped us with car rental reservation and spa reservation. On our special day we were treated with champagne and a cake. can't wait to go back!

We just returned from 11 nights at Quinta da Abelheira. We stayed in a garden suite with 2 adults and 2 young teenagers (they were sold out of all other room categories so we made due with one suite so never looked at other room categories). The decision to stay here was one of the best of our whole Azores vacation and we are very picky. You will realistically need a car or taxi to get around from the Quinta but it is only 10 minutes to Ponta Delgada and a great starting point for activities in all directions. Best aspects of hotel: Lovely location on a hill, can see ocean in the distance (but not a neighborhood that is beautiful to walk around). Best part of this place is just hanging out inside the Quinta walls. Newly renovated/modern design, very clean, roomy, despite hotel being full, you never feel like tons of people are there. Relaxing environment at pool, pool heated, poolbar available for a drink or quick bite most of the day. Breakfast is gorgeous and delicious, with many home-made items, everything fresh, one of the best I have experienced. Staff (from management to housekeeping) is absolutely wonderful, ready to help in any way possible. Negatives: very few -- but price is higher than other plces. Bed situation for our kids could have been better. Couch very small/narrow as a bed, we should have asked for extra roll-away bed and the one we had for one child was also narrow compared to other hotels we have stayed at. Breakfast officially starts at 8:30am (they are busy making everything fresh!!), but sometimes when off to activities everything is not ready, you will have enough to eat -- you just may not have whole selection. Otherwise close to perfect experience. We would definitely stay again!

Beautiful hotel. Very tranquil. We stayed in the main house. Breakfasts were great & buffet style. You could sit outside & enjoy the lovely views. It’s a bit out of the way so you need taxis to eat in town. The kids loved the swimming pool which was great after a hot day. Weirdly to call reception you had to phone a Portuguese number rather than an internal phone.

What an amazing hotel! The room was huge, modern, clean and full of charm. The breakfast was very fresh - almost everything was homemade and all of it was delicious. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Beautiful views, great location. Loved it!

This wonderful property and its charming staff were the highlight of our trip to the Azores: amazing breakfast/coffee, comfortable/clean accommodations, spectacular views of Ponta Delgada, while tastefully removed from the city.

I felt very welcomed by Margarida and Stacy along with the entire staff. We had had an overnight flight and were invited for breakfast upon our arrival the first day. We were allowed to relax in the comfortable public areas until our room was ready at noon time. Very healthy and varied breakfast spread every morning. We had a poolside room. It was so nice to have a comfortable home base for our daily adventures while in San Miguel. I am a rather particular person and I would highly recommend this guest house for your stay on San Miguel island.

From our arrival to our departure, our week long vacation at Quinta da Abelheira exceeded our expectations. The accommodations, staff, food and personal service were all so impressive. The location was peaceful with beautiful views. We loved it there!

Exzellentes Frühstück, unglaublich freundliches Personal (haben mich kostenlos zum Flughafen gefahren, Verlängerung vom Aufenthalt zu gleichen Konditionen wie bei ursprünglicher Buchung, usw usf). Fantastische Anlage etwas außerhalb von Ponta Delgada.

Our experience was fantastic. Can't say enough about Margarida, the manager. She went out of her way to help any way she could. She picked us up at the airport and in town a few days. Recommended a local tour company for some day trips and some wonderful local restaurants. She took us to the market one morning and made us feel very welcomed. We felt we arrived as strangers and left as friends. Alexandria the chef did a wonderful job with the morning breakfast. The array of fruit, cereals, breads, jams, eggs, meats, cheeses, hot coffee and tea and a wonderful fruit drink daily, was a great way to start our day. The dining room overlooked the ocean and although November is not the best time to visit, weather wise, it was still beautiful even on a cloudy, rainy day. The grounds of the property are beautiful. Due to the time of year, we were unable to use the pool and the outdoor patios, but they would be spectacular in warmer weather. Although this property is not in the city center, we did fine without a car during our 5 day stay. Don't hesitate in booking this property when you visit San Miguel, Azores. Margarida and her staff went our of their way to make us feel at home. Many thanks ~!~

We absolutely loved everything about this hotel. The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful. The staff is exceptional, going out of their way to take care of our needs, they feel more like friends than hotel employees. Breakfast is delicious and a great variety of options. Our daughter fell in love with the cats and 3 new kittens that live on site. We won't hesitate to stay here again the next time we visit Sao Miguel.

Really enjoyed our stay, hotel made the holiday, with views of 180 degrees from the terrace overlooking Ponta Delgado and surrounding areas. Margarida, Stacey and all the staff were always helpful and couldn't do enough for the guests, nothing was too much trouble, from arranging car hire to ordering taxi for airport transfer for early morning flight. Breakfasts were excellent with a wide variety of fruits, meats and drinks.

Our hostess Stacy is a world class hostess. There was nothing she would not do for us. We mentioned that we swam every morning, she made sure the pool was cleaned. She picked and delivered us to the airport herself. She is an exceptionally warm and professional asset to this establishment. Breakfast was incredible, gorgeous grounds. House keeping exceptional. They made sure our bathing suits were dry by putting them on heated towel rack. Such a thoughtful gesture. Cannot say enough about ending a fantastic holiday here. Much better than very bust Ponta De; Gada.

I must say, the staff and especially Margardida are the most attentive and friendly I ever encountered in all my travels. They were there for everything and anything, airport pickup, restaurant reservations, car rentals, tips on where to go, etc. The hotel is run more like a B&B, with excellent breakfast choices, no rush to get there and done in time, beautifully appointed rooms and a relaxing hang-out living room area and terrace with views of Ponta Delgada and the Atlantic. I highly recommend renting a car though to get around the island and into the 'city' as the property is a bit off the beaten path. I would go again any time, highly recommend!

My husband and I just got back from our very first visit to San Miguel. We stayed at the Quinta da Abelheira for 7 nights after debating where to stay on the island. We're so glad we decided to stay there the entire time! It's such a great central location to get anywhere on the island and we covered it! The staff is so friendly and helped us with things to do and see and places to eat. The breakfast was fantastic and we looked forward to it every morning!

Very accommodating of our late arrival. New portion of the facility where we stayed was top notch. Breakfast was very nice and well presented. Staff very friendly and helpful - even provided a free ride to the airport!

Our flight was delayed and we found this hotel,and it was fabulous,will plan to come back!!

We were here for 5 nights in July and had a wonderful stay. The location is not too far from Ponta Delgada if you have a car and it was easy to get out to the rest of the island. Our host was very helpful,as were the other people working at the Quinta. Breakfast was enjoyable and on a nice day you can eat on the patio overlooking the sea. We would definitely recommend the hotel and stay here again. Internet service is also very good.

Very much enjoyed our stay. Big comfortable room, excellent breakfast, attentive staff. The only potential drawback is the distance from town (6Km) - couldn't walk to restaurants for dinner.
