Room was good and had a good fan also a small fridge which was handy for fresh milk.
The stairs were not suitable for anyone with disabilities. Being an old pub the stairs were a little steep also narrow treds. Breakfast was a basic continental.
Very friendly staff
Unfortunately most beers were not available. Very hot weather which attracted flies to the breakfast buffet which was uncovered
Room, location, staff. The member of staff did her best in difficult circumstances.
Stocks were being run down because of a change in tenancy. This resulted in a much reduced offer in respect of food and drinks. Nothing was mentioned in the advert for the property of this. So when we arrived at 4.30pm for a one night stay, and unloaded our gear, and been for a walk around the village, we had little alternative other than to stay.
Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and great breakfast
Location was good, room was excellent
Breakfast was finished too early, check out at 10am was too early
Room was good size, comfy bed and real ale very good
Pillows to small, couldn't keep sash windows open and as it was very hot would have been good to have had a fan supplied for the room. Breakfast was very poor as no beverages were available or offered and table was sticky probably from night before
Location good and staff friendly.
Tried to contact them for 3 days prior to visit and got no response. Food options very limited.
We booked this hotel we turned up as we have been here so many times before and enjoyed. Arrived to check in only to see thd pub was uo for new management. We waited outside for many hours to open never opened .we asked local people they said the pub was open at 4 .00pm we waited till then still noone arrived .we cancelled this booking and made our way home. We had travelled 2 hours to get there and was very disappointed. It was such a lovely pub thats why we booked time after time .
Central position & friendly staff
Breakfast for the money ! Continental ? Had to ask for cheese (on my last day - none available) no tomatoes ever !
Our room was very clean with a big comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and we were given a full English breakfast instead of the continental. The location was perfect.
The location is good for visiting the 2 breweries nearby. The staff were pleasant. The bed was fairly comfortable.
There was no bath mat to stand on when getting out of the shower. We were not given any hand towels just 2 bath size towels. There are a lot of lorries passing from 5.30am onwards so it's quite noisy. There were no tongs to pick up sliced meats, croissants or bread for toasting. It was questionable what food was being offered in the evening in the bar. It seemed to be a service brought in from outside not an in house chef. The stairs up to the rooms are very steep for carrying luggage.
Good location
Unfortunately they had a water leak that was being fixed.
Location brilliant staff nothing too much trouble
Can be a bit noisy at the front but after 2300 it’s quiet
Central location-other hotels to eat nearby. Good size comfortable room. Friendly staff. Continental breakfast included.
No evening meals available. Small bar. Ate elsewhere.
Room was smallish but more than adequate for our stay and was really clean with a fabulous comfy bed. We were disappointed that there was no cooked breakfast (but that could have been an oversight on our behalf when we booked and we did not read that only Continental Breakfast was served!!!) However the choice of cold meats, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, croissants etc. was really good so we had no complaints once we realised that we wouldn't be being offered Cooked Breakfast??? We never ate Dinner at the Bay Horse as we always went out for the day and ate either lunch-time or late afternoon wherever we were at the time thus didn't eat on a night time.
The actual access to our room was horrendous with stairs so steep and sheer that at one stage we thought we were going to be unable to actually make it up. My husband is nearly 80 years old and I stated on our application that he had mobility issues!!!! If he didn't before we came after seeing and having to go up these stairs, think his mobility definitely didn't improve. But thankfully staff were really helpful and carried our luggage up to room for us (thought at one stage they may have had to carry my hubby and I up too?????????
Very welcoming, Evening meal was excellent and great value for money An old building with a quirkiness that goes with it. Spotless. Comfortable sleep despite the very warm weather. Return visitors and not disappointed.
Not applicable.
The room was lovely and the bed so comfortable
Could've done with more food options on the menu
Great location in the centre of the village. Our room on the third floor was a great size, comfy big bed.
Nothing
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food brilliant. Cooked to order. Room modern clean and spacious. All round great experience
Nothing we didnt like. Staff made us very welcome and were most obliging
The location was perfect, the staff were both friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble,.
Right next to the town square
No chef on a Sunday evening, had to find somewhere else to eat .
Atmosphere in the bar was good and the evening meal was good.
Standard of the room for the price was very poor. We never stayed for breakfast ( that we paid for ) just wanted to return home !!! We won't be recommending this to family and friends.
Friendly welcoming staff excellent breakfast
Stairs with suitcase
It was old and had nooks, crannies and leaning floors but with a modern twist. Lovely
The stairs were difficult but we managed, we are old soi younger people would have found it easier.
Spacious room. Big comfy bed, lovely cotton bedding Nicely decorated Good refreshments tray
Plug socket behind pillows On a busy road so need to keep windows closed so was very warm. Only a continental breakfast, no cooked option
Good location, we were the only guests, but were made very welcome. We had the room at the top up quite steep stairs but very comfortable. Breakfast is continental and it was a very good selection of fruit, cold meats, pastries etc even though it was just the two us.
Lovely pub and hotel right on the square in Masham. Staff were really welcoming. Breakfast was sooooo tasty…fresh fruit and good coffee kept me happy! Comfy beds. Private entrance out-of-hours. Close to everything you could wish for…other pubs, eateries, the two breweries, walking/running routes.
Breakfast good. Bed comfortable
Can't remember now
Bright and clean room, lovely staff Although they’ve stopped the hot breakfast the continental buffet was good with nice quality fruit
Pity about the lack of hot breakfast, it was so good previously
Warm welcome. Friendly staff. Nice quirky traditional pub with good atmosphere. Good selection of beers Nice sized well equipped bedroom. Modern bathroom. Complinentary bottles of water were a nice touch. Good tea/ coffee making items. Small mini fridge in room. Very comfy bed. Nice continental style breakfast. On road parking very close by.
No food available during our stay because renovation work in progress following a water leak. ( This did not spoil our stay ) Bedroom was on first floor up some very steep stairs.
Room was nicely done up and fresh. Stafff was helpful and I felt secure being there at night. Excellent breakfast served.
I really couldn't think of a way to make this place better-it was charming.
Friendly pub centrally located in masham. Clean and comfy room, with a decent amount of space. Continental brekkie was fresh fruit and cereals, meats and nice drinks. Bar manger very friendly and helpful. We will be back.
Nothing
Great location on the market square. Very friendly staff and good food available in the evening.
Steep stairs up to bedrooms not suitable g gf or anyone with mobility problems.

Great location in the centre of Masham. The room (standard double) was lovely. Comfy bed and an excellent shower room. Tea and coffee making facilities with plenty of choice. Five minute walk to both Black Sheep and Theakston Breweries.. Free parking on the roadside next to the pub or in the market square with an honesty box provided. Great base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Friendly helpful staff, nothing was any bother.
Didn't cause an issue during our stay but the stairs upto the rooms are quite steep.
Lovely staff, room was good quality & Abba tribute was fab - breakfast good also - buffet style continental. Will definitely return.
Perfectly situated with nearby parking. Really spacious room with everything you could possibly want. Very comfortable bed, the drinks cooler was a nice touch with bottled water in it. A lovely buffet continental breakfast, and all staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Nothing really, would have loved to eat there at night but food wasn’t available, I think a new chef was due to start. So just unfortunate timing when we went.
Breakfast healthy. Room comfortable
Took a while to heating working
Good location
Breakfast was basic
Good sized room (the bathroom was a bit snug but was en-suite) and large comfy bed. Excellent tea tray as well. The pub is in the heart of Masham.
Snug bathroom
Great located hotel, we stayed in a large double which was very roomy, the bathroom is small but shower was good. Tea, coffee etc in room. Gabby our host was very attentive, but don't creep up behind her as she is very jumpy :) she was very pleasant. Free parking outside if you can get it or an honesty box in the market square. Masham is very pleasant and Harry's chippy lovely. Great brewery tour within a 5 minute waking distance. Nice river walk and a church that rings its bells nearby. Lovely location. Hope to visit again.
Stairs very steep up to rooms, just be sure footed.
Great location in the centre of Masham The room (a small double) was really nice. Yes the room was small but the bed was a large double. Very comfortable. Excellent shower room looked new and lovely fluffy towels. Kettle tea and coffee provided. Convenient sockets with usb point that you don’t often get! Excellent continental breakfast with fruit cereal meats toast pastries etc etc
Bit noisy but it was Friday night and the noise did stop as soon as the pub shut at 11
Friendly staff Nice room
Booking.com said Superb Breakfast, but no cooked breakfast, disappointing.
Room, quiet even though at the front on the main road. Breakfast. Only continental, nothing cooked but wasn’t a problem. No evening meals available while their as chef off sick.
The stairs. Narrow and steep.
Good location. Friendly staff. Bed and bedding were of a good quality .
The Continental breakfast was good but would have liked an option to have a hot breakfast.
The location was perfect and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was really nice with a sofa in it so you could sit and read easier than sitting up in bed. Scott was happy to set the bed up as two twin beds rather than a double.
It was a shame there was no hot food available, but there was plenty of choice at breakfast.
It was ok. Not great.
The room was cramped and very hot. I couldn’t operate my own heater which is strange.
Friendliness of staff. Location good for visiting other areas
No cooked breakfast Needs a little tlc for some of the finer detail
Great location, good value for money. We stayed in the large double bedroom which had plenty of room. Good selection of hot drinks in the room, with bottled water and a small fridge to keep them cool. We had a great night sleep, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a continental breakfast, with a good choice.
Big confortable room. A couple of very small issues rectified immediately. All staff very friendly & welcoming. Excellent Continental breakfast with a great selection of cold meats and fresh fruit.
Right in the market square but still lovely and quiet. Big room with kettle, tea, coffee etc. lovely staff. We were the only ones staying and were well looked after.
No private parking but there was parking within sight of the hotel with an honesty box that funds upkeep to Masham
A traditional pub in the heart of Masham with a great and warm welcome from the staff. If you love a pub stay with character you will love it here. The staff are fabulous and the rooms are comfortable and well furnished. The bathrooms are updated and modern. The beer was great and the breakfast varied and fresh. Heartily recommend.
Will be great when the new food menu comes out too
breakfast delicious, no option for cooked. but thoroughly enjoyed it
Notting, we really enjoyed our stay… only just too short
Location Very clean looking bed linen & towels
The room smelt strongly of pee
The bedroom was okay.
There was an annoying buzzing fridge in the bedroom that we ended up unplugging. No milk to make tea. No chef = no cooked breakfast (we weren’t notified until we arrived and therefore options for breakfast were limited). Only option for breakfast on the Sunday morning was 8am - 9am.
No food available for dinner, Breakfast was a Continental style, room was warm, comfy.
There was nothing I did not like.
Staff very friendly and good continental breakfast. Comfy bed.
Couldn't turn the radiator off / down in the room and it was very warm.
In centre
Small bed steep stairs not for old people
Cimfy bed, large room
Nothing
Location Great. Really comfy bed. Nice spacious room. Staff friendly.
Sadly no chef. So was disappointed no evening meals or cooked breakfast.
Very comfy bed & great shower
Some steep stairs to get up to the room (the building is old, so not unexpected)
Comfortable well equipped room. Plenty of gluten free options for breakfast.
Good room with decent bathroom. Breakfast was OK
The room was too hot, the radiator couldn't be turned down. I had to open the window however because I was at the front of the building the adjacent road was very noisy from 5,00am onwards.
Excellent location and friendly accommodating staff
Central position Our room was a good size. Breakfast was good. Bed was comfortable.
Couldn't check in until 4.30pm. Stairs are very steep. Over powering smell in the corridor of reed air fresheners. The room was cold. The water pressure was low and temperature in shower was inconsistent. Minimal milks in the tea and coffee supplies I know I could of probably asked for more but didn't notice until the morning.
Great value for money and in an excellent location. The hospitality from the staff was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel welcome throughout our stay. We had a good sized room which was very clean with a comfortable bed and good facilities. We would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying there again.
Friendly staff Lovely pub Perfect location
Rooms quite hot (it was January and I like to sleep cooler, probably personal prefence)
Great value, cosy pub And rooms. Top floor rooms are really nice! Town is excellent for those who haven’t visited
Only complaint was that food seems to have dropped a bit since last time. Pie was burnt and risotto and veg a bit unusual. Small compliant though, great place!
Great location, good value for money, clean room, comfy bed for a good night’s sleep, warm and welcoming, well cooked breakfast.
Location, friendly staff. Good beer and food.
Radiator control wasn’t working (but staff found a solution)
Really friendly, good location and great value for money.
Lovely hosts, great welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Room is very comfortable and cosy in a lovely location. Fabulous breakfast. Highly recommended.
Location
Next to no availability on dinner menu had to farm us out to another hotel for breakfast blaming kitchen breakdown when everyone guest it was no stock.
Great breakfast, well cooked and presented

The room was nice and bed comfy, staff friendly. But a few things were disappointing. Such a shame as the pub was nice and the staff friendly but things were disappointing. The breakfast at the Kings Head was amazing, this was due to a gas problem in the Bay Horse.
Pub was not open during the day until check-in, no answer via phone and email address bounced back. Very limited offering for dinner despite booking and not being informed prior. Noise from bar at bedtime. Breakfast 8:30 - no-one in sight until 9:10, several couples waiting and not able to access the bar/restaurant area. Evenutally we were told there was a kitchen problem and were sent to another hotel for breakfast which was probably for the best. The lack of communication wasn't great.
Lovely room with all amenities you would need for a night or two stay. Bathroom a bit dated and peeling but still very clean. Very friendly staff. Good location in Masham.
Obviously expected some noise as staying above a pub and this would have been fine, but we didn’t expect what sounded like club remixes at what must have been max volume cranked up between 10:30-00:30 at night. We were in the room above the pub and the floor was vibrating and due to the noise. Speaking to other people staying in the morning who had been downstairs at that time they said the staff turned the music up out of nowhere for hours. The kitchen also didn’t work in the morning for breakfast which is not a fault of the people working there but guests waited for 40 minutes with the doors to downstairs locked before anyone told us anything. Sent to the Kings head for a lovely breakfast afterwards though. Would not recommend this hotel if you want to be able to sleep before 1am.
Location
Too many drunken people and needed a full refurb
