Good location, friendly and helpful staff.
Enjoyed a 7 night holiday on B &B basis Had a small glitch with room, but the hotel moved us without any fuss Really friendly and helpful staff, especially the Concierge Beach club is wonderful Location is absolutely spot on. Far enough away from the centre of town, but very easy to walk into the centre, or Saint 'Agnello, which is also definitely worth doing Top tip: Don't book a Garden Room, go one grade up.
An absolutely wonderful hotel and location. Spectacular views and an amazing private beach club. The front desk staff were very friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We extended our stay by 3 nights and went back a week later. The perfect escape from the summer heat wave.
There was nothing to dislike.
Our stay at Hotel Riviera Sorrento was truly wonderful. A special thank you to the concierge, Francesco and Gianni, for their genuine warmth, kindness, and exceptional attention throughout our stay. They were always friendly, helpful, and attentive to every detail, making us feel truly welcomed and cared for. Thank you both for your wonderful hospitality. We truly appreciated everything and hope to see you again!
We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera in late April. We had an oceanfront suite, and the views were astonishing. The room itself was huge and very spacious, including two chairs to sit on the balcony and a separate sitting area. It was incredibly clean. The staff were lovely throughout our stay, and the breakfast was excellent. We stopped by every day prior to our excursions. While it is a little jaunt from the harbor and the center of Sorrento, we were able to walk to many of the places of interest with no trouble. I highly recommend it.
I could tell you that the hotel and rooms are beautiful and tranquil, the beach area is fabulous, the staff are very friendly and the breakfast terrace has a special atmosphere, and that would all be true. But I think the measure of a good hotel is how they handle difficult situations. On arrival, we had a small issue which was dealt with promptly, professionally and in a friendly manner. This left us to get on and enjoy our second holiday to this stunning hotel in a very special town.
We had an amazing few days in Sorrento staying at the Grand Hotel Riviera. The hotel has stunning views, and sitting at breakfast looking out over the bay was a real highlight. The beach club was also fantastic, with beautiful views, very comfortable sunbeds and the chance to swim in a private, cordoned-off section of the sea. Swimming there with the cliffs as a backdrop was an unforgettable experience. We also ate at the hotel restaurant, which we hadn’t originally planned to do, but they had a special menu for St Anna’s night, along with a singer performing at the hotel and fireworks over the bay. It turned into one of the highlights of our holiday and made for a really special evening. The only downside was that we waited around 35 minutes after being seated to get a drink, despite asking a couple of waiters. However, the manager dealt with it very well and gave us an extra glass of wine each. It was probably just down to it being an exceptionally busy night, as everything else was great. The room was comfortable, with good air conditioning, and the hotel is around a 10-minute walk into the centre of Sorrento, with the route being mostly flat, which was a bonus. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera again. A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with amazing views and a wonderful beach club.
We had a brilliant week at the hotel. The service is excellent , the rooms are spotless and the views from the terrace and lounges are stunning. The breakfast is superb with an excellent choice of hot and cold food, eggs cooked to order and great coffee. The highlight for us was the lift down through the cliff to the private beach deck to sunbathe and sea swim. We always could get a sunbed and parasol and you can order drinks and snacks there too. We hope to return.
We really enjoyed our stay and had a very pleasant experience overall. The hotel was comfortable and the service was good.
The only downside was that our room did not have a view, and we felt the price was quite high considering that.
Our family of 4 - my husband and I, plus our 2 boys in their 20's stayed for 3 nights. We had 2 rooms: 130 - deluxe w/ large patio on the corner that overlooked the pool and faced the sea) and 510- premium w/ sea view that has a small balcony but large and for the boys separate spaces for them to spread out + bathtub and separate shower. Both were at the very end of the halls and furthest away from elevators, but that was fine for us and kept the noise down. We took advantage of the "beach" club umbrellas and chairs, plus dip in the sea, which was very comfortable temps in early Aug. Also the pool, which is lovely but small. Towels are available at both, no services at the pool, but there were at the beach club + if you go early you can snag a noodle for hanging out in the sea. Its deep - I'm 5'4 and couldn't stand. Lovely sunset patio where we enjoyed drinks and beautiful scenery. Breakfast each morning was a highlight, great spread of a lot of bakery items. For Americans looking for semblance of pancakes and waffles will be disappointed, they had mini pancakes, but not what you're used to. There were scrambled eggs and bacon every day, plus an assortment of yogurts, breads, jams and offered selection of beverages, sparkling/flat water, fresh squeezed juices, prosecco, etc. Their cappuccinos were excellent, so was the coffee, all included with the breakfast. Had a nice dinner at the hotel including: insalata and caprese salads, filet mignon (very very limited gluten-free options) and fish of course which you find in abundance was excellent. Only complaint was burger was served with a very seedy and robust multi grain bun. So heads up to ask if they can swap out. Service throughout the hotel was excellent. It was a walk to the town center, but easy for them to get a cab for you and is a short ride - 4 of us one way was 18-20 euros. Dinner at Tasso, which they recommended was incredible, had lots of gluten-free options, plus a wide selection for all tastes of seafood, beef and pasta options.
We are currently still here whilst writing this review as we leave on the 7th August. We would have given this hotel 5 stars but sadly you have disappointed us as we have discovered today you will not have any courtesy rooms or suitable areas where you can change / shower in privacy when you have a late departing flight. For the money we have paid we find this completely unacceptable for a hotel of this calibre. We would suggest this needs to be addressed by the management immediately. Apart from this blip nearing the end of our stay we could not fault this hotel. Pete & Julia
Gorgeous property with many levels and views. Easy to find and check in fast.

Last but not least- de auto parkeren op eigen terrein. Echt een aanrader.
Weinig keus aan eten bij de Beachbar.
The location of this hotel is breathtaking, and the staff are professional and extremely friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed yet polished. The bathing platform has a beach bar and access to a safe sea bathing areas. It's a ten-minute flat walk into the centre. We also had some fabulous meals at the hotel restaurant with wonderful service and incredible views over the bay. The sunset around 8pm was truly spectacular! The maitre d' Luigi ensures everything is extra special. Also Teresa at breakfast always greeted us with a smile and our favourite drinks. Also Luigi was great and also helped me to learn a little Italian. Also Angelo, Francisco and Raffaella in the bar were fantastic as we're Mario and Vittonio who worked at the beach bar. The hotel is fabulous but it's the staff who made it extra special for us.
Just returned from an amazing week holiday at this fantastic hotel. We highly recommend the swimming pool, sea pontoon and everything about this hotel. It’s 10 minutes walk from the Centre of Sorrento to lots of restaurants. The staff are so friendly and go the extra mile to make your stay remarkable, the bar staff remember your favourite tipple/coffee which is a nice touch. We will definitely return to Sorrento and this hotel will be our first choice again.
Sorrento capped off our family's two week Italy trip and we were happy that we stayed at the Grand Hotel Riviera. We stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels in Venice, Florence and Rome and while aspects of this hotel are a little dated we were able to look past them. The good: -staff was generally excellent. we felt like a valued guest with the lobby staff always saying hello and asking how our stay was going. -location is great. being right on the coast the view are stunning. It was maybe a 10 minute flat walk to the downtown area, which suited us just fine (btw a taxi is 20 EUR for about a 3 minute ride). -the common areas were all very nicely appointed and updated -the restaurant food and staff were excellent. Throughout our stay we had used it at times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. -pool and ocean area were nice. We liked being able to access either area. While each area got busy at times in the mid to late afternoon we didn't have a problem getting seats together at either. The ocean area was neat with having the protected swimming area along with floats/noodles to use along with pool attendants to help and ice cream available to buy for a few EUR. -it was very hot outside and the AC in the room worked great. The area for improvement: -the room was a little dated compared to the other 4 and 5 star hotel we stayed at in Italy. I expected it so it wasn't an issue for us but still something to call out. We specifically stayed in a family room which had a common area with two individual beds along with a separate bedroom and bathroom. In the bedroom was also the door to connect to another room. What I really didn't like about it is that the door was thin and a single door (not a door in that room and a door in our room that both closed) so we could pretty clearly hear people in the other room as well as light easily came through from their room. The bathroom had very little counterspace which is a challenge for a family of four. Despite what I said above we still really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.
I don’t understand why this hotel is 4 star. Its location, staff, service, food, cleanliness, ambience is 5 star plus. We stayed for our 10th anniversary and we had our honeymoon here 10 years ago. It was special then and special again this trip. The staff are all smiling and cannot do enough for you, without exception This must be the best hotel in Sorrento ! We definitely won’t wait another 10 years before returning. Thank you Grand Hotel Riviera for lovely memories. Arriverderci x
The location is breathtaking, the staff professional and courteous. The atmosphere is relaxed yet polished. The bathing platform accesses safe sea bathing areas and has a beach bar. Cocktails on the terrace are a treat and the food is good. This is our second stay and we’ll be back. Faultless. Guests are a mix of families and couples. Nothing is too much for the team of staff. A rare treat of a place.
We stayed at this hotel in June 2026 for our honeymoon and had the best experience. The hotel is only a short walk in Piazza Tasso (Main Square), which made it convenient for afternoon walks and finding a restaurant for dinner. The breakfast offer is excellent - you won’t leave hungry. You can even sit on the balcony and enjoy the view of the Sorrento coast line! The hotel offers a relaxing pool with plenty of sun beds to chose from, or you can even go down to the ‘Beach Club’ where you can lie in the sun and go for a swim in the sea. The staff in the hotel were excellent - so polite, friendly and happy to help. A special shout out to the guys that work across the F&B team, you can tell how hard they are working! Brilliant stay and would definitely come back
I have to make a comment regarding last night's thunderstorm, the kitchen staff, waiting and bar staff worked their socks off accommodating everyone who arrived unannounced, finding tables and still keeping dinner service up to its high standards as usual, you guys all deserve medals and appreciation, thank you.
We just returned from a trip to Sorrento and we stayed at the Grand Hotel Riviera. We had a great time there. The views were amazing! They have a private beach club that was so nice to have and great area to swim. My favorite part was the breakfast buffet. It was so good!! And the staff was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed seeing Theresa every morning over a cappuchino. Location was also good for us. It is about a 12 min very easy walk from the hotel to the main center of Sorrento. We really liked that it was not in the center of everything. It is so crowded in the center of town that it was really nice that the hotel was in a quieter area.

Home now after spending 14 nights at this amazing hotel. It's one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Hotel is in a fantastic location, about 15 minutes walk from main centre. Views from public areas across the Bay of Naples are outstanding. Fantastic having breakfast on the terrace with these views. Plenty of choices for breakfast. We had one evening meal at the hotel which was equally very enjoyable. There are plenty of excellent restaurants in the area without doing the walk into main town which in our opinion added to the overall enjoyment of our holday. Added bonus was the hotel's private Lido/Beach Club, staff there were amazing and very attentive as were all staff throughout the hotel.
Recently had a wonderful few days at this hotel. All of the staff were friendly and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. We were looked after extremely well. The views from the breakfast and dining terraces over the Bay were fabulous and the food delicious. The room was great.
La vista è superlativa e la posizione comoda. Ottima Colazione e cena in camera.
Beautiful location, amazing ocean view, kind staff, very central but yet not crowded. Eating breakfast with such breathtaking view is priceless. Will come back for sure
We have just returned from a wonderful 10 night stay at the Grand Riviera. It is a really charming place to stay , with great staff -- a particular shout-out to the Beach Club Team, who were very helpful and always greeted you with a smile. We had an initial issue with the room , as there was no walk-in shower -- but that was quickly sorted and the room we were moved to was fantastic. There is a signicant upgrade charge if you require a sea-view -- but it is soooo worth it. The view from our balcony (room 132) was just amazing, probably the best we have ever had. Food in the hotel was really good, plenty of choice at breakfast ( one small negative, in a country which grows such wonderful fruit, fresh orange-juice at breakfast would have been nice, instead of the rather watery juice that was on offer). We don't usually eat in a hotel, prefering to go out, but we ate twice at the hotel in the evening and the food/atmosphere was first class. The hotel is slightly further from the centre than we have been used to, approximately 15 minutes walk and perhaps a shuttle-service would have been a bonus, but it is in a wonderful position on the cliff top. It really is a great place to stay for anybody visiting Sorrento.
Our stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera was exceptional from start to finish. Even before we arrived, the front desk and concierge Francesco and team helped orchestrate our seven-night stay with incredible attention to detail, wonderful recommendations, and outstanding suggestions for activities and experiences throughout Sorrento. Their hospitality truly set the tone for an unforgettable vacation. The view from our room was absolutely breathtaking , truly magnificent in every way. Waking up each morning overlooking the water was something we will never forget. The dining experience exceeded every expectation. The tasting menu at dinner was exquisite, beautifully prepared, and one of the highlights of our trip. The à la carte menu was also among the best we experienced in the area. Each morning, breakfast was outstanding, with fresh eggs, pastries, fruit, and incredible ricotta that could not have been better. I cannot forget the Beach Club and pool area both well kept, and the service was impeccable Every aspect of this hotel reflects elegance, warmth, and exceptional service. We cannot wait to return.
The breakfast has a great diversified selection of foods presented in a graceful manner with superior service by the waitstaff.
Very clean, pretty, and beautiful views Nice staff
The gym was very bad, not a gym at all & the pool closed way too early.. after all day shopping, we want to jump in the pool. Should definitely stay open until 8pm/10pm Drinks were over priced
Beautiful hotel within an easy 10-15 stroll to centre Sorrento. Our suite overlooked the water with our own balcony offering plenty of space and furnishings! The service was wonderful, the breakfast was tasty and perfect to jump start the day. Highly recommend!

Beautiful hotel, on the cliff overlooking the sea. Gorgeous views! The staff was kind and friendly. All were very accommodating. Great location with a 10 minute walk to the main town square.

This was the best hotel I have been to. From day one my wife and I could not find any fault with it. From the ladies that cleaned the rooms, to the reception team, bar staff and breakfast staff, thank you to luigi, Giovani and Teresa. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The guys who looked after the pool and the bathing platform at the sea. The views were to die for, having breakfast looking over the bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius was out of this world. Our room was overlooking a orange grove, was very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast had a great section, from eggs to fish and cakes to mozzarella. We didn't eat the evening meal, as we wanted to sample the food from different restaurants. All I can say that it met with all our expectations. We loved it so much, we've already booked for eleven nights next year. Grazie to all at the the Grand Hotel Riviera.
The views and location of this hotel can’t be beat. If you’re planning a visit to Sorrento, I would recommend staying here. It’s just a short walk to the city center and the marina from The Grand Hotel Riviera. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms and the entire hotel is very clean. The beach club was fun and the service was excellent. Also, the included breakfast was a great way to start the day.
The hotel staff and especially the dining room staff were amazing. Really good value for money. The dining was fantastic, with sweeping views of the bay and the boats. The menu had a broad and varied selection. In the dining room, Giovanni, head waiter, was incredibly competent and his staff, Luigi, Francesco and others were so very helpful. I cannot say enough about this hotel and the restaurant.
Enjoyed our short break in Sorrento. Hotel is spotlessly clean, most staff very friendly & always greeting you, food & drink all very enjoyable. Great location only 5-10 minutes walk from Sorrento centre. Only loses 1 star as we experienced a very loud wedding reception on the Saturday & could not sleep. Other than that a very good base for our stay.
A vista é estonteante! Os funcionários são educados e solícitos. O café da manhã é excepcional! Piscina linda. A decoração é de extremo bom gosto.
O preço é um pouco elevado!
This was our second year in a row staying at Grand Hotel Riviera, and my second time leaving a review—which says a lot about how much we love this place. The team here is truly incredible. Bengie, Francesco, Gianni, and so many others I wish I could name all went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. Their hospitality is genuine, thoughtful, and a big part of what keeps bringing us back. The location is amazing, the service is exceptional, and the amenities make the entire experience feel effortless and relaxing. Every year, leaving gets harder—we’re so sad to go, but incredibly grateful we were able to spend another year at this special hotel. We already can’t wait to come back.
A beautiful hotel with stunning vistas of Vesuvius and the bay. Convenient to downtown Sorrento. The room was clean and well maintained. The best part was the amazing staff. Giovanni and Luigi in the dining room were very hospitable and friendly. Always willing to answer questions even if only related as to where to go or what to see. The front desk crew were extremely helpful. Food was great.
This was aour first (hopefully not last) visit to Sorrento. Since we arrived at the hotel, the staff made us feel like royalty, very attentive and courteous. The room was very clean, and every day service excellent. Breakfast is buffet style and has a variety of hot dishes as well as cold meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, fresh bread, variety of wonderful pastries, fresh fruit, homemade jams, etc. They can make omelets upon request. Dinner has a great menu, and they can make different things for vegetarians, if you ask they will provide you with a variety of options to choose from. All these with a wonderful view of Vesuvius, Sorrento, great to look out sunsent, live music and excellent service. Location is great, just a few blocks from Piazza Tasso, where you can go down to marina for ferry, near many restaurants and shops. We definitely recommend this place and had a wonderful experience here.
Bra mat t lunch i middag. Mycket vänlig och kunnig personal. Jättetrevligt rum och elegant badrum.
This was our second time at this hotel , it’s in a stunning location . The hotel is beautiful, the staff are amazing nothing is too much bother , we even received an anniversary treat to our room which was a lovely touch We booked a room with a side sea view and had requested the same room as we had last year , but unfortunately we were given a room opposite , which still had the side sea view but was obscured some what by the trees which was disappointing, it also seemed noisier than the other side , especially from the guests above. But we had a fantastic holiday and would stay here again if we are ever in the area again
Zimmer mit Blick auf das Meer. Sehr freundliches Personal.
Sehr viel Auswahl an süssem Gebäck.
Come for the views - it’s magical. The staff will make your stay super special. They get their guests needs and recommend places and services very well.. The rooms are nice and I liked the fact that there was turn down service!
While the hotel has a mix of old world charm and where possible a modern touch .. but the bathroom in the standard rooms are rather small .. and a bit old.
We had a wonderful 4-night stay at Grand Hotel Riviera and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, all the staff were consistently polite, welcoming, and attentive, which made us feel truly looked after throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, well-maintained, and very comfortable—exactly what you’d hope for when staying in such a beautiful location. Breakfast each morning was a real highlight, with a wide selection of healthy options. We also really appreciated the thoughtful approach to reducing food waste, which reflects the hotel’s commitment to sustainability. The standout moment of our stay was dinner at the Blue Lounge—an absolutely superb fine dining experience. The quality of the food, presentation, and overall atmosphere were exceptional, and it offered fantastic value for money. Overall, we had a memorable and relaxing stay and would highly recommend Grand Hotel Riviera to anyone visiting Sorrento. We would definitely love to return!
Servicen
This was a fabulous hotel and having visited this hotel over 40 years ago we hoped it lived up to our expectations. It certainly did and more. What a view from the terrace - beautiful room - great food and drinks and beautiful beach club. Will definitely come back.
Great view from the restaurant
Location was incredible, the view from the breakfast room was amazing.
The view is stunning and breathtaking- rooms are small although they have improved over the years with some small improvements- the dining experience is better than the past and is more local based and quality oriented but breakfast still vey cheap with no high quality products and in Italy this is not acceptable. Staff is very patient and friendly.

Clean and friendly
The Grand Hotel Riviera is located no more than a 15 minute walk from the main Sorrento square. The hotel also boasts one of the best views in Sorrento overlooking the bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius whilst you are having breakfast, lunch, or just a quiet relaxing seat on the terrace. The hotel atmosphere throughout our weeks stay was very pleasant and the rooms (as was the hotel in general) were very clean and tidy at all times and have everything that you require (e,g kettle, wi fi, tv, safe, mini bar, daily top up of milk coffee etc) There are cheaper hotels in Sorrento but i don't think many could match the overall experience we had in the Grand Riviera. Last but not least, we wish to emphasise the exceptional service that we received throughout our stay and i can only apologise that i can't remember the names of everyone, there is one staff member with whom we will will always have fond memories of for her cheery smile and exceptional service in the restaurant and her name is Theresa (we would appreciate if the management would pass on our thanks to Theresa) Thanks once again to all at the Grand Hotel Riviera and hopefully some day we will be back.
great location , fabulous views and rooms were perfect
The staff were extremely helpful! The hotel restaurant was outstanding— including a phenomenal breakfast! Location perfect on the Amalfi Mediterranean. Paradise!

What a beautiful, classy, stunning hotel. The hotel was one of the best I had ever stayed in .It was spotlessly clean throughout. All of the staff were so friendly , polite and very attentive at all times. Room was very clean and fresh towels were provided everyday and even a turn down service which was a nice touch! A lift in the hotel takes you down to sea level where there is a private jetty surrounded by sun loungers and access to the sea . The hotel had the most beautiful panoramic views over the Bay of Naples, and in the evening there was always live chilled music which made it very relaxing , a great combination. A big thank you to the hotel manager who was always helpful whenever we had any questions and was very friendly. we loved our stay so very much and we will certainly be back very soon . fant
With all the hotels in Sorrento, we are so happy we chose Grand Hotel Riviera. Beautiful clean hotel overlooking the Bay of Naples. We chose a premium sea view room that was recently renovated with beautiful tile floors, bright colors, comfy king bed, couch, large walk in shower and closet. We had 2 balconies with a sea view that sided to a lemon, olive trees, and mountains. Very Private and so clean. All of the hotel common rooms also breakfast room have beautiful views of the bay. The staff are the best. So helpful polite and kind. Helped us with dinner reservations, drivers and directions. Always greeted us with a smile. Breakfast buffet which is included was awesome, so much to choose from mimosas & made to order eggs . It was about a 10 min easy walk to Piazza Tasso. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Balcony's, deck for sea swimming, bedroom decor
Food was very average, breakfast as a self service in such a beautiful upmarket hotel felt of poor quality
Large comfortable room Excellent breakfast Great lounge and restaurant Friendly, extremely helpful staff
Nothing
Excellent location with some great facilities
Room overall very dated
I booked the “Premium Room with Sea View Terrace” at the Grand Hotel Riviera based on the website photos and description, expecting a spacious room with a private terrace and stunning sea view. What I received — Room 203 — was smaller, lacked the furniture shown online, and had a terrace exposed to neighboring rooms. The viewpoint promised in the photos did not match reality. The website does not provide square metre sizes, allowing the hotel to assign guests wherever they like without transparency. At the time, the room was charged at an obscene rate, and it’s now advertised at roughly half the price, showing how inflated the original charge was. I raised the issue with Mr. Sanseverino, who responded in a condescending, dismissive, and rude manner. He refused a fair refund for the difference in room category and offered only a voucher, ignoring the clear discrepancy between what was advertised and what was delivered. For a hotel with a long-standing reputation, this behavior is unacceptable. Guests should be aware that the room you book online may be very different from the room you receive, and questioning it may lead to arrogant and unprofessional treatment. Avoid unless you are prepared for misleading marketing, inflated pricing, and terrible customer service. For a hotel trading on its “historic reputation,” the Riviera operates with outdated standards, misleading advertising, and poor customer relations. Be warned: the room you book online is very likely not the room you’ll get — and you’ll be treated with arrogance if you dare to question it.
This hotel was just beautiful. The views from our suite and the breakfast room were just breathtaking. The staff was always smiling, breakfast was high quality, and the private beach was just amazing. The pool was very nice as well but it was hard to beat the beach! It is a short walk into town which is fine since town was too crowded anyway! We walked to a supermarket and laundry mat when needed (I have 3 kids who need to be fed and whose clothes need to be cleaned). It was very hard to come back to New Jersey.
The view from the dining & breakfast area. The beach side shelters / bar. Overall, the hotel was great.
The room was very small. Staff could be a bit more welcoming.
Excellent cliff top location but only 15 mins walk to the main square
Hotel maravilhoso
