The Ryokan is charming . The option of a buffet meal at their sister property was the best thing about this stay.
This was a very rustic and not particularly well appointed accommodation . While the staff was kind there was a definite communication barrier. Their timing for meals was quite rigid. The kaiseki meal was thoughtfully prepared - it was just inedible. The hotel was incredibly damp and smelled strongly of moisture and tatami mats - so much so that I could taste it . It was so unpleasant and incredibly off putting. The facilities were old and shabby. The public onsen was just not particularly special and you could Hear cars driving past as you tried to relax. The private onsen- there was only one with no way to reserve it- was never available. This was truly a trying experience and not worth the money spent
Private Onsen was great and beds were comfy.
The whole hotel was in a really bad state of disrepair. Smell of damp throughout and evidence of mold in several places including catering facilities.
I was a little bit worried about the cleanliness because of the recent reviews, we stayed at the villa, it was very clean and we really enjoyed it!’, the house has an old feel to it, it’s a little bit used, but it had a charm. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast as well.
Habitació estupenda amb onsen privat
If you are looking for the traditional onsen ryokan experience this is it. Lovely villa type accommodation with 2 private onsens.
Beautiful location in the mountains. The room was large and comfortable - we had western beds. They were very accommodating for us arriving late due to getting lost on our ride and very friendly. We made use of the private onsen which was very relaxing.
Nothing
They made great effort to serve a six course vegan Japanese meal to us. It was commendable.
The Public Onsen can be made better.
Everything was absolutely beautiful from the location, staff, facilities, to what we were offered and the way we were treated.
Everything was perfect
Interesting older property. Very nice staff. Wonderful food and presentation. Comfortable.
Overpriced. Needs updating.
The room was large with the private shower and hot tub right outside our sliding glass door, surrounded by a tall fence. So fun! Everyone wore the cute kimonos and slippers they provided to the fabulous and included shabu shabu beef dinner in the hotel! Very fun! The breakfast included was also extensive and delicious!
Loved everything!
Colazione giapponese La camera Yakata (vestito giapponese)
Onsen assolutamente da manutenzionare Rapporto qualità prezzo Cena molto sbrigativa
Just specifically 1 Staff Member was a little strange to us, the check in process was weird and could have been much less complicated. The staff did not explain the steps for the check in. ( We wished they explained us what and why to do certain things. We heard another Staff member explain exactly that to other new Customers). We were more or less forced to install an app on our phones without explaining FIRST for what purpose. When asked he did not give my traveling partner his cellphone back when he had problems installing the app ( he simply said: " No. " ) and continued trying to install the App for him. It was very weird.
It was clean and lots of amenities available.
The food was not good and the staff were not trained well. Also, the slippers we were required to used didn’t fit or stay on our feet.
Amazing stay, food was delicious :) We had amazing stay :)
It was perfect :)
Clean, quiet, good view and the bus stop is right outside of the property.
The private village didn’t have many lights in the washroom and hallway. Would like to have towels and hand soap in the washroom.
Good location, traditional building, manager‘s availability was excellent and we appreciated a lot his client-oriented approach! Nice view from the room over the terrace, staff helped immediately to carry all luggage into our rooms
Bad smell in the whole place, old infrastructure, slippers were not comfortable to wear - very slippery and dangerous to wear (easy-to-fall), tiny Onsen, the clothes were old and it was visible that they had been used x times, no direct access with cars to the reception
Very cultural, convenient and remote, but not bad to reach by bus from Odawara railway station- buses are fairly often for the location. Met my expectations for this historical place. Kaiseki breakfast and dinner are awesome. Hotel is not low cost though, but good value for money. Fast check in and check out. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We had large room with our own bath inside (you have to be ready to pay the price for it though), but attended public onsen within the hotel too.
None.
Abendessen
Onsen nicht in guter Verfassung. Frühstück eher nicht gut.
Was a cultural experience rather than hotel stay. Staff were warm and welcoming. Room was charming and comfortable. We could fill the bath with the naturally heated spa waters !
Nothing
It was an amazing experience and opportunity to stay at this wonderful ryokan
Our stay was phenomenal! We stayed there for two nights in one of the private villas in February. The outdoor bath had a view of snowy mountains and was incredible! The food was some of the best we've had and the portions were generous. Manna at the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful as well. Overall, I highly recommend this place!
Loved the private onsen! For those who want their privacy and still enjoy. Attendants were extremely friendly!

The Onsen and the general experience was great, also awesome staff.
Beautiful location. Great service and dinner
The staff and the food were great.
The building was old and needs refurbishment. The private in-room onsen had mold all over the walls, ceiling, and tub. We did not even want to submerge in the water.
Beautiful villa with a superb private onsen and very friendly and helpful staff.
Traditional stay with an onsen for a true Japanese experience. The public onsen was fun (ladies and gentlemen are separated). They provide a Yakuta for the guests. The Dinner and breakfast were very tasty! Not quite cheap but in the end the experience was worthy.
The corridors are quite cold since it is an old building, but the rooms are warm and confortable. It wasn’t a big deal for us, and we got than really warmed up in the onsen which is open till midnight and also in the morning!
Very relaxing & traditional
Some of the cupboards/trims a little scuffed from general wear & tear, overall great accommodation
This is the classic Ryokan experience most people are looking for when they think of Ryokans. In a high far off place, gorgeous views, cozy atmosphere, awesome hot springs and traditional Japanese cuisine. It’s a historical place.
The private villa is a little far off from the main facility. So walking to the main facility in a Kimono might be a little cold.
The food was fantastic and the staff were great. Kimonos provided to wear for breakfast and dinner. Our private onsen was great.
The rooms feel like they could do with an update, but still quite good.
I loved the private onsen, and the free shuttle to Gora station and to certain attractions. For a place that was built in the 1800s, they have modernized what was essential to make our stay comfortable while maintaining authenticity. The meals were thoughtful offering a western breakfast if you so choose to have that, but I really enjoyed the variety of the Japanese meals. They recycle the menu after 3 days so our 4 day, 3 night stay was perfect. One day they had us eat a buffet dinner at a neighbor hotel and it made me appreciate the kaiseki meal at the ryokan even more. The 3rd night dinner menu offered so much food that we couldn't finish the last 2 courses. I believe it was well worth the cost. A great stay in Hakone.
The only thing we didn't like were the beds. They were a bit stiff with just one pillow. But everything else was wonderful and felt traditional.
The historical building and the traditional Japanese style room is super nice.
There’re some trash and stains left in the room.
Décor magnifique. Personnel aux petits soins pour la clientèle. Repas et petit déjeuner délicieux
Kaunis sijainti, naapurihotellin kylpylä hyvä (olisi pitänyt yöpyä siellä). Onsen ihan ok.
Aamupalan lohi maistui vanhalta. Ruokailun aikaa ei voinut valita, liian kiireinen aikataulu.

Scarsa conoscenza dell’inglese
Very large meals, which were exquisite. With breakfast and dinner, you can skip lunch as you explore the area or soak in the hot springs.
We had the private villa, it was spaceous and located in a beautiful area. There was both and indoor and outdoor private onsens for us to use as well as the public ones available at the ryokan. It was a good location that's easy to reach from Odawara station.
Gorgeous location and great food.
A private bath would have been nice, but the public onsen area was comfortable.
