The hotel is beautiful, but the room maintenance is not good. The rooms need renovation. There was no hot water. No drinking water at breakfast.
The accommodation is really nice, and our double room was a good size. The only thing is that the male bartender is a bit disorganized. First, he forgot our cocktail, and we had to remind him several times, and then he accidentally poured us a whole drink. As an apology, the drink was supposed to be free, but when we paid at reception, they didn't know about it, so we had to pay for it anyway.
Nice spot! Convenient location! Good service! We left the luggage there before checking and after check out and everything was good. Safe!
Cannot say enough good things about this place and their staff!! Leonardo in the front desk was a Rockstar and helped us through the check in process smoothly! Got to our rooms and headed straight to the rooftop, there Karina and Jaider took care of us with refreshing drinks and delicious food while enjoy the pool and the magical sunset of Santa Marta!! The only thing I can suggest is taking care of the small buildup of black mold (especially in the ceiling and corners of the bathrooms) they were not huge patches but they can be treated and we understand that humidity does not help either but it is a simple improvement that will make this stay perfect from beginning to end!! Thank you for a great experience!!
Great stay, beautiful rooftop, perfect location, love this place!! Amazing food prepared by Steven, and the service of Juliana and Liseth are impecable and really professional, Santiago also makes you feel at home and they work great as a team! I have been gone 2 days and already miss this place and all the staff! would come back on a heartbeat!! Super recommended!!
Great stay at Masaya! Clean, good price, good location, nice and filling breakfast, and the room was fine. Would have liked drawers or a small wardrobe. Also, there were no windows in the room (small one in the bathroom). Noise not too bad - could hear our neighbours when using the shower. The live music and DJs were great, though regular music during dinner was too loud. We'd have liked more activities to get to know people, but not sure if we just missed these. Overall a really good stay and we recommend!
My first hostal experience and not my last, after this reservation I booked again the very next day. Definitely would recommend, bed was comfy, water was hot enough, I like how it’s actividades to do. The food was aight, but you can cook your own meal in the comunal kitchen which was pretty wicked. Some mornings I would lounge around in the nets, with the sun beaming at me then go to the pool which was conveniently outside my room. I never did get a chance to go on the hammocks but that’s no biggie.
Recommandable
Very helpful and friendly staff. Secure location. Good breakfast. Good value, but no hot water. Nice rooftop area.
The hotel staff here was so lovely and the ambiance of the rooftop communal area was spectacular.
Awesome pool n terrace restaurant. Good Internet and big private rooms
This place was disgusting. My shared dorm smelled like feet and old laundry. I felt like I was staying in a homeless shelter. One of the bathrooms had feces in the toilet. The couches were soiled. Never again!
Bien ubicado cerca de mercado y centro y el transporte público desde el aeropuerto te deja a medida cuadra y lugar muy lindo
Very nice :)
This is the best hostel i have ever been to! Great customer service, special mention to Davis, he helped me with any issues or need i had, from transportation, to excursions, to food, etc... Angie was also very helpful. The design of the property is awesome! Not your bare bones hostel, this one has pools, bar, restaurant, rooftop deck with great views and also activities like dance classes! They have raised the bar for hostels for me, i don't know how i will go back to a basic hostel again. I can't wait to visit again and bring my son, family, and friends. Thank you all for an amazing time!
Masaya is great if you’re a backpacker. The shared spaces are amazing, with the two pools, the huge rooftop terrasse with its bar and many chilling spots. We booked a private room since we are a couple and that was the disappointing part. The room smelled terrible. It was very humid and you could see some mould on the curtain. The bed was comfortable but you only have a small sheet for covering. The whole thing didn’t feel very welcomy to me. On the other hand, the hostel is very well located and the people at the front desk are very helpful to guide your around. So, i guess youll love it if you backpack, maybe less if you travel with your partner and looking for a certain comfort.
Had a great time staying at this quiet hostel. Location is right in the heart of the city. Beds (in dorms) have built-in privacy curtains. Downside of this is that the curtains are vinyl and do not ventilate well (I had to leave mine open to sleep). Towels are 3,000 COP when staying in the dorms.
Great central location with helpful staff and exciting nightly planned activities for guests. Two pools and a lively game/lounge rooftop. Beautiful city views and accomondations. They will also help plan city excursions as well.
Amazing people and service! Helped us book a sailboat tour to a private beach in the park. Had a salsa dancing lesson, which led to a guided Santa Marta night life experience with a local Colombian. The motor bikes are the most exciting way to get around the city!
Ambiance chaleureuse.
Horrible -dirty, horrible stuff
This hostel had the vibe of a high end hotel! Our private room was big and clean, and the bed was super comfortable. The pools were cool and clean, and the rooftop bar was a great place to hang out and have a beer or a cocktail in the evenings and watch the sun set over the town. We liked it so much the first night we were there that we came back for more!
This property was pretty underwhelming. It was clean with beautiful architecture but that’s about it. The indoor pool was A clean good sized dip pool. The roof top pool was the opposite filthy and even smaller. The staff were quite nice and helpful which made a difference. The food and bar is ok. Drinks are a little on the pricey side and the food was fine but nothing The location was OK, central Santa Marta for sure but kind of the dodgy end of a street. I never felt unsafe but the area was a little funny (not in a good way) with interesting characters constantly floating about day or night. I’ve been told this is one of the best hostels in Santa Marta. I only stayed here during my time so I can’t compare but if that’s the case than I guess I was lucky - but I did expect more from my overall experience here.
Stayed here in a dorm room of 4, then later in a private room. Both were very nice. The Hostel has 2 pools, one on the main level and one on the 3rd floor where their is also a bar. I really enjoyed the experience at this hostel apart from the breakfast, which I found extremely underwhelming. The fresh fruit was amazing, however the egg's were prepared in one big batch and no choice, only scrambled. I would recommend to serve egg's to order and add more variety such as fried, poached, omelette, etc. The Masaya Hostel Is located in Centro market area.
Extremely nice boutique hostel. Very good location in Santa Marta (a few blocks from the main plazas and restaurants). Large themed bedrooms (ours was 'Shakira' - with painting of the lady herself in the room!). Nice Moroccan style building with a rooftop bar and small pool. Only slight downsides were the lack of friendliness from some of the main reception staff (not all of them or the night staff), the inability to check in until 3pm and the rather poor breakfast offering. All in all, great value stay in a modern, clean building. The organised transfer to Cartagena was also very good and much more comfortable and time efficient than taking the bus.
Quick and easy check in. Pleasant staff. Good breakfast.
Nice Hostel with great location Breakfast need to be upgraded
Nice hotel
Very nice for an adventure in Colombia , the rooftop is amazing
Our stay at Masaya completely exceeded our expectations, in nearly every way. I haven't stayed at many hostels, but I've stayed at a few over the years and this one was one of the nicest. The staff were incredibly friendly, super knowledgeable about the area, made great recommendations, and were very welcoming the entire time. We had a private room with a king bed and a bunk bed, and it was perfect for 3 people. The A/C was great, rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was even a tour booking agency in the hostel so you could book tours right from there. One tip I wish we had known was how much there is to do near Santa Marta - there were many multi-day excursions that looked really cool that we unfortunately didn't have time to do. The pools were also a nice additional touch. The hostel is on a busy street by day, but those streets during the week are mostly vacant until you reach the busier streets. We had no major issues, but I would recommend keeping your eyes and ears open if walking home past 10pm on weeknights or just taking a cab back. Masaya was a gem with fantastic prices and accommodations - I would definitely recommend staying here and asking them about the tours they offer beforehand.
Rooftop pool. That says something. This place is hip and Santa Marta is a great hub for a lot of activity (Lost City treks, visits to Tayrona). A little sketchy (I got mugged a couple blocks from the hotel). But not nearly as sketchy as Taganga. Some great restaurants in town, too (just stick to the pedestrian streets).
We only stayed only one night as our main goal was having a place to stay before heading to Tayrona the next morning. The hostel is super cute. Funky rooms, very modern and clean, two pools to swim in. The rooftop area is a nice bonus - great place to swim, eat, or just hang out. No complains - would definitely recommend.
it would be nice to have more variety in the breakfast, it is not good eat everyday day the same thing
Great staff! Beautiful hostel with nice open kitchen on the roof, great social bar and pools to cool down in. Perfect location. A/c in rooms a little COLD. But modern bathrooms and very clean. Loved this place!
The check in too late, 3 pm and the check out too early, 11 am. Only 20 hours day
We loved staying at Masaya and wished we would have stayed longer! The staff is great, location is in the middle of everything, and the hotel itself is trendy with such a cool vibe- hanging hammocks, a pool where you can look up to see the sky, and plenty of places to sit and just relax. Will definitely recommend to others!
Overall a good hostel. My boyfriend and I stayed there for 2 nights. It is located in Santa Marta Center, close to a variety of local restaurants, but other than that not much to do in Santa Marta. It is only a good location to stay to do day trips from. Bathroom was clean, AC worked perfectly. My only complain would be that the bed has to cover on it, just a sheet.
Probably one of the most architecturally beautiful hostels we've stayed in anywhere. Room comfortable, ac a plus. The only thing they could add are the fold up canvas tables to put your bags. And another place for a towel in the bathroom. Service slack at reception. And though our room was ready when we arrived they wouldn't let us check in until 3:00pm. Breakfast is underwhelming and the guy was downright rude. Even though my husband told him we had a private room he was rationing out the coffee. And you know that cost nothing. The person at the travel desk was very helpful. If you don't care about service, this is a great place to stay.
Located at the colonial zone. in the morning a lot of taffic. Near Parque de los NOvios and Marina. 10 min car distance from Rodadero y Taganga. It's ok if you're locking for a short sta
Stayed in a private room in this hostel which was clean and spacious. The building itself is also well looked after with a nice roof terrace. The hostel is quiet at night so you are able to sleep. A couple of the staff (but not all) on the front desk were a little unfriendly. Masaya also has a travel desk but when I went a number of their day tours that they advertised were not available. They weren't much help for a solo traveller as they wanted to sell tours to groups it seemed.
The staff was nice and the place was fun with the pool up on the top floor and the simple bar open after 5pm (only beers and basic drinks). There is no elevator and you have to carry your own bags. My room was big but dark, no windows. There was also a large humidity spot on the ceiling. I only stayed one night because they had no water when I woke up and couldn't take a shower or get a cup of coffee. Nobody had a clue as to what the problem was or when it was going to get fixed. So I moved. Good AC. The bartender could be more people oriented, had to ask for a beer like 5 times! And still gave me a snarky response once I walked up to the bar. No tip for him!
Excellently located hostel. Certain things made it stand out - lovely view from the terrace bar, the space to relax on the roof, two pools with the roof one open until late, great hammock idea, excellent air con and shower. You expect most hostels to miss out on a couple of things, but this one really impressed! Not 100% perfect but for price, I'm not going to complain!
Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our experience in Masaya. The staff were amazing with us and the bedroom was really confortable. The hotel is near everything, there's no needs to take a cab there. We enjoyed bith of the swimming pools and the breakfast was really good and fresh everyday. We recommend it !!
This is part hostel and part hotel. I was given a superior room on the ground floor. The room was clean and a pool was right outside our door. We did not hear any noise. The second pool is on the room top. Great views and nice vibe. Lots of young friendly travelers from all over the world. They have happy hour specials and the bartender works hard to please everyone. The breakfast staff, hotel staff and front desk are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant area is a 3 blocks walking. I felt safe at night.
This is probably a great hostel, but is not up to standard for a hotel. The website shows a magnificent blue roof top pool, when in fact it is a very small pool with brownish water. We were very disappointed with this as a hotel. Shower just had a trickle of water. Neighborhood is not safe. Probably ok if you are a back packer to walk around there. First time in over 30 reviews that I can say that i am saying that I would not stay at this place again
This hostel was recommended by our landlords in Bogota. We reserved a night before going on to Tairona. There is a beautiful pool right after you check in, which we took advantage of. The room was comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfast on the rooftop.
Awesome hotel/hostel- very clean, friendly staff, conveniently located- amazing value!!! Highly reccomend.
Amazing, restful, soulful stay!
i had a great time. i booked a privte room. satff is very polite, helpful. the terrace and the bars in the hotel as well as the swimming pools make your stay very comfortable. even if theres a lot to do around the hotel, you dont get bored in the hotel ever. the only complain i have is the Wifi which didnt work in the room and was very slow in the whole hotel area. at all the other points i loved the place !
The location is nice and the staff was generally quite friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is charming. The rooms were quite clean. The live music was really good and the staff at the bars and at breakfast were truly nice. The facilities could use some improvement. We found that the toilet flusher kept disconnecting so i had to 'fix the toilet' in the morning sticking my hand into the toilet water to release it. We were grateful they had air conditioning, but it was either too cold or too hot - we couldn't figure out how to use the air conditioner to get 22 degrees C, I guess. But having only one sheet - no blankets we found the air conditioning unusable so it was very humid and hot at night, or freezing. Our television had a connection / cable issue so we spent some time trying to tighten or fix the connections to stop a static picture but we were not successful. Breakfast food had run out by 10:30 on one of the mornings. When checking out, it was too hot in the reception, and all my credit cards were either unreadable by the credit card reader, or the wrong input was used - not really sure, but it was just aggravating. Finally after :45 minutes of frustration, and sweating, one of my cards went through. Having said all that, honestly, I am trying to be really honest rather than critical. Overall, it was a nice, clean place to visit; the view on the top floor is nice and the staff was usually very friendly and the live music was fun. Needs some improvement though.
First of all we (couple) wanted a bed for 2 people. we received two twin beds and they wouldnt switch our room. The curly hair dude was rude. the girl staff were nice. They spoke good english.
After two weeks visiting family. My fiance and I finished our Colombia vacation in Santa Marta. As soon as we stepped out of the Cab and walked into the Hostel. We imediatly knew something was different. Everyone was nice and outgoing. The place is absolutely beautiful. And nightly events or parties. Everything was relatively close. and we felt like part of the Family from day one.
