Rooms big and clean shower was good
Nice rooms, disabled access
Restaurant was very expensive for the quality and the music was weird (all cover songs by the same female voice). Staff ranged from very helpful to exceptionally rude.
Breakfast was good, though my fried egg had uncooked white, but that wAs promptly resolved. Excellent evening meal in the Amore restaurant.
They couldn't replace my duvet with a sheet and blanket so I was too hot and had to use the bath towel as a covering! I failed to spot the hidden shower instructions which were beneath other things I didn't need in the bedroom, and I couldn't make it work.
accessability
Great Location and great Breakfast
Location
Very tired inside
Great location
Two nights stay, we had to wait almost an hour for breakfast and the restaurant wasn't that busy..the waitress delighted in complaining to us about her work conditions. Our sleep both nights was constantly interrupted by very loud creaking floorboards from the room above which we informed reception of on checking out. When we contacted the hotel via email and eventually got a reply, we were told basically too bad 😞
Great location. Nice room
Food was poor
Bedroom and bathroom were clean. Location was good
The ground floor toilet room was not clean. Infact disturbingly unattended to. The TV in our room could not be made to work. A member of staff eventually got it working for us.
good bar and restaurant. nice bear garden. rooms good,
There was alot of noise from the street at 2am-3am. people chanting and shouting. when they stopped the seagulls started. on the first day the breakfast service was very bad, one waitress who seemed like she couldn't really be bothered to help you. on the second day it was much better, reception staff were helping, it went much much better.
Single bedrooms are sometimes seen as poor relations but this one was great with a decent sized bed and good facilities. The breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay again.
Lovely rooms and great space
Nothing
Central
On a hill
We had a good check in experience, the room was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a generous selection of continental items, cereals, pastries, cold meats, yoghurts, cooked breakfast options.
The cold ceramic floor in the ensuite, whilst its easy to keep clean and hygienic, its frustratingly cold with bare feet.
Large room. Reception staff were very helpful about storing our bikes, and the bike storage room was secure.
Breakfast was a mixed experience. Scrambled eggs were dry and crumbly as if left under a heat lamp for some time. I ordered poached eggs the next day and they were much better although took a long time to arrive.
The Hotel has recently had a refurbishment and it is now lovely, everything is done to a high standard.
Soft mattress
When we walked up those big steps outside i fell over because the grab rail outside wasn't long enough for me to grab it so fell over, leg bruised and sore but ok
This hotel has superb decor. The bedroom and bathroom were large was well furnished with modern decor etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice and quality just fine.
Location and access to the town
The bathroom was large but poorly planned with a very poor shower pressure combined with over the bath which older guest will struggle with and is a potential accident waiting to happen
From the moment we checked in the girl on reception was fabulous. The rooms weren’t ready as we knew they wouldn’t be but she helped us get facilities to freshen up as we were heading to a wedding, she then took photos for us. She put our luggage in a safe space for us to collect when we got back but when we got back she had already arranged for everything to be taken to the rooms. The next morning she helped take our luggage to car and helped my mum down the steps as her mobility wasn’t great. Excellent service. Used the bar when we got back in which was nice and the two guys were very pleasant. The rooms were clean and comfortable although we weren’t in them very long and the breakfast was delicious. Would happily stay again if in Berwick.
Large comfortable bed. Nice bath
Not recently refurbished. Shoddy workmanship. Bedroom windows wouldn’t close fully and were packed out with loo roll. Poor food quality. Given impression not made by experienced chef
Location was good and food was excellent
Newly refurbished but not too a good standard
Great location
Conveniently situated. Warm homely feel, very welcoming staff. Room comfy and nice soft bed.
Feel mean saying it, it’s such a small grievance, but nowhere really to hang wet towels in the bathroom.
Breakfast was great.
The breakfast was excellent
We had booked an executive room. The room was not ready on arrival. They then gave us a room with curtains hanging off rails, a window that wouldn't stay open and a bathroom that smelt of sewerage. No hairdryer or safe in the room. We asked to be moved the next morning and were given a much better room they said it was an upgrade?
Breakfast and evening meal was excellent 👌
More staff.
Hotel was lovely
The main reception staff when we walked in were very short with me, we were told we couldn’t check in early which was fine but she was very stressed and quite rude with everyone waiting to check in at the same time. The toilet roll was wet in the room as were the towels. We were told it was 24 hour reception after explaining we would get back late from a concert in Edinburgh. When we got back to hotel all doors were locked and it was not just us there was other families who had been locked out. It took us over 15 minutes to get someone to answer the phone to let us in.
Staff very helpful.A special mention for Kerry on the desk & everywhere else, she never stopped! Nothing was any bother for other staff. All very cheerful & welcoming. They all deserve a bonus!!😃
Nothing.
Booked a table at the restaurant for dinner and they didnt reserve a table. The direct upstairs room seemed to have only floor boards or loose floor boards, so when somebody moved it sounded like the ceiling would come down.
The room was great and very comfortable
A mixture of old and modern.
It was comfortable and within easy walking distance of amenities and attractions.
Nice clean hotel, lovely breakfast and friendly staff
It was central to the town..The staff were all lovely and helpful.
It could do with a bit of a refurb especially the residents lounge. The ladies toilet near the reception always had a bad smell
Very comfortable beds. Friendly staff
Obviously recently renovated. Tiles in bathroom look expensive but already signs of mould around bath area which would benefit from some attention! Music too loud
We stayed in a refurbished executive room which was very good. The hotel did not provide complimentary water which is a norm these days. The Amore restaraunt was nicely decorated and the food was good value and a nice standard. The staff were both friendly and helpful.
The hotel bar was very dated and the smell of dampness was overpowering. The decor was poor and dated. We did not use due to the smell. We appreciate the hotel is old but if the owner invested in the bar it would encourage guests to use it. The outside beer garden is very run down with overhead decorative light cables broken and fallen down on top of tables, which is a health and safety issue, especially for young children. Overall the general areas in the hotel need some upgrading.
Very nice, friendly staff. Spacious room with large well appointed bathroom. Fabulous evening meal in the restaurant. Great central location
Parking in Berwick can be challenging but this is out of the hotel's control
Central location, very comfortable room
We had a super room but a little uncomfortable with it having a large pavement level window. Even so, it was very quiet.
Being in Berwick on Tweed Catering and cleaning staff very nice. Got impression reception overstretched. Managers not staffing sufficiently.
Waiting at reception for 15 mins with no one around. Then being told reception manned 24 hrs at check in .Having credit details taken and all damages price itemised-seems cynical attitude to clients. Rooms bore no likeness to photos. The cold corporate modernised decor. No character.
It was clean and very central.
The staff were not very friendly or helpful. I arrived early and parked outside- it would have been good if the receptionist asked if I had a car and explained that I could only leave it there for an hour. Consequently I got a ticket. Also the staff in the restaurant need better training.
A very lovely hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We were even treated to a little surprise.
Everything lovely
An obviously brand new fantastic bathroom BUT the bath was lethal! NO grab handles and extremely slippery. No anti sip mat provided.
My wife left a pair of trainers and they forwarded them on to us. No inconvenience. Really appreciated the follow-up call. We had completely forgotten them,
Very fresh and modern ,. Nice big room with friendly staff
Nothing
Food, excellent. Room was nice and airy. Staff very friendly and helpful
Nice clean hotel. Huge room, very impressive first impression
The room we were given should not be given out at weekends. It is at ground level and right next to a loud noisy pub. We had people leaning against our window talking at midnight talking and shouting. We weren’t to know this however the hotel will be well aware. On checkout we weren’t asked if we had a nice stay. When I told the man on reception he didn’t know how to react. Over £200 for a sleepless night. Also had to wait over an hour for 2 full English breakfast, will not return, feel exploited and let down.
Location and Rooms Excellent
Mattress were Uncomfortable
Great central location in heart of Berwick. Upgraded our room and it was great - separate dressing area, shower was fantastic, comfortable bed. Accessible entrance at the side, lift made this a great option if you have mobility needs.
Central location makes it quite noisy - but noise disappears at midnight so manageable. No parking - which can be a bit of nightmare in Berwick - free 24hr is only a 10 minute walk away. Just be prepared to have to hunt at busy times.
What a surprise, lovely large room, very comfortable bed. Very handy to town etc. a real gem.
Nothing to add here
Good food and bed
Leaking sink no air con no fan dirty badly updated room. Windows didn’t stay open had to prop them open to get any air. It was a sweat box. Told the receptionist but she just said sorry . Also the plumbing was broken so the toilets emptied over the pavement outside .
Comfortable bed, good breakfast.
Odd decor, loud music from the restaurant could be heard in the room with the window shut in the evening.
We paid £1 for a disc to park outside the hotel over night. Hotel is in the town centre with a lovely walk around the bastion wall. Our room was ver comfortable and clean the staff friendly and helpful.
There are several steep steps at the hotel entrance, difficult for elderly people with luggage. A bigger than average bath/shower room but not suitable for the less mobile elderly to get into. I managed but my wife didn’t.
Location and cleanliness
Nothing really
The Kings Arms is well located in the centre of Berwick and close to all the places you need to get to. Reception staff were excellent and overall our stay was fine.
The room (Room 1) was on the ground floor right next to the road and therefore very noisy, particularly on a Saturday night! It was a large room but had no character. Room service cleanileness was poor I'm afraid, towels left for replacement were hung back up, cups were not cleaned two days running, bed was poorly made, dust everywhere etc. Breakfast staff were poor and I think badly trained, we had to ask 4 times to get a coffee on the first morning, no green tea available, everything was slow. The quality of food was ok but not really to a good enough standard for what we paid for the room (over £200 per night). One thing to watch is the positioning of chairs at some of the tables at breakfast which are on a raised plinth and quite dangerous. another resident also had to complain about a broken chair but nothing was done.
Location ..nice bar ..lovely breakfast.reception staff ..and bar staff
Booked 2 rooms ..ours was smaller than our friends room amd thier bathroom was bigger and clearly refurbished ..our bathroom wasnt as clean and grouting needng attention round bath and tiles ..chair was covered in black marks ..looked dirty
Everything!! All the staff were very friendly & helpful. The food in the restaurant for breakfast & dinner was delicious. The rooms are very nicely decorated & so is the bathroom. The shower was amazing to!!! Would definitely return.
There was nothing I didn't like, as a preference I would of preferred a firmer mattress but they were still very comfy & i had a good sleep.
Staff were really lovely and helpful
Expensive
Recently refurbished
Bedroom en-suite had a step surrounding bath area as did restaurant around some of the tables. A trip hazard as we saw!
Lovely big room with friendly staff
Room was dusty. Counted 9 spiders on the ceiling with cobwebs. No double glazing as listed building but we could not shut top window to reduce noise as it was stuck and wouldn’t close. No heating on or able to control it from the room, I did speak to reception and the manager did turn it on for us. He said it is set to come on at certain times and go off at 10pm, we arrived about 4.30 and it was about an hour before I asked for it to be put on so god knows what time it comes on for. Breakfast was very disappointing, the full English left a lot to be desired, very meagre. I asked for porridge and it was more like cement. It was £179 plus £15 each for breakfast but in our mind it is not worth it.
From the outside the hotel looks a bit dark and grey, however when you walk through the door you will be in for a surprise how bright and welcoming it is.
The exterior paint.
check in, room, breakfast, bar
one couple thought the bed was too soft (room 4), room 10 could hear TV in adjacent room & occupant snoring...
Spacious room and friendly staff and breakfast was tasty and location was fantastic
Nothing
Breakfast good choice , staff very helpful, but under staffed , housekeeping nearly none existent, towels not changed.
Fire alarm kept going off one afternoon, no one seemed to notice what to do, clearly under staffed, miss leading regarding car parking, one hour only on front of hotel no return within two hours free car parking 200 -300 yards away when you could get in .
Location, a very great breakfast. Staff were very helpful.
Dark ceilings, beds and bedding - uncomfortable, shower rail installed wrongly, water spraying everywhere, making it difficult to shower.
Lovely big spacious rooms Recently refurbished
Nothing
Very friendly and welcoming staff, comfortable room and excellent location
Good spot near the harbour
Car park was a short walk away. Sea gulls were very noisy
The room and receptionist in the morning (a young lady with long brown hair whose name I didn't get).
No plug for the bathroom so we couldn't have a bath. The gulls were incredibly loud as was the music from Limoncello a few doors away.
Nice building and great location
No WiFi and was looking forward to watching something important And the fire alarm going off twice early Sunday morning and to be told it was the steam from a shower I’m not wearing that
The location was great
The first room we were given was dark, with very small windows.
Central and local, staff friendly, felt safe there.
Seagull noise, which isn’t the fault of hotel, anywhere you stay you’d hear them. Hotel was nice, reasonably clean. The refurbishment was a bit of the cheap side but it was ok for a seaside town. Restaurant dinner was so so.
Good location in the centre of town.
In all other respects it was very disappointing. There was no receptionist on duty when I arrived, and I had to wait a considerable time to check in. The WiFi in my room turned out to be unusable, and in the bathroom there was a depressing plastic cup instead of a water glass. Well after midnight, staff were throwing empty bottles noisily into the bins outside my window. In the morning, I arrived in the breakfast room at 09:15 and had to wait till 10:00 before my full English breakfast was served. The staff told me the chef had been out drinking the previous night and hadn’t turned up for work. A wedding party further complicated everything. It felt like an episode of Fawlty Towers - for which I had paid a three-figure sum. This hotel has potential, but I can’t recommend it - certainly not at the inflated prices they charge. It felt like very poor value for money. In any similar German town you would get somewhere much nicer for half the price.
Was very central and the restaurant had lovely food, reception lady at desk was really nice and helpful
The shower room, it had a step into it, which could be quite dangerous coming out(I nearly slipped on the step ) as no bath mat right at feet! And I reported the drain needed a good clean as the water was nearly overflowing from shower! I had to turn shower of to let it drain! I reported it but it did t get cleaned while we was there ! This was the case in my daughter’s room also!
Lovely, comfortable room. The night desk person (Evie) was competent, friendly and welcoming.
The room was massive, bath was deep
The staff on reception was a bit up her own ass.she was rude as well.you had to pay for breakfast separately for paying full price for the room I wouldn't pay that amount again
Good location in the town centre. Friendly staff and a good Italian restaurant attached to the hotel.
For a night’s stay a breakfast included in the price of the room would have been nice.
O
Parking Trafficwardens do not like people not with a Northumbria parking disc
Location nice clean room
Outdoor area was a bit run down
Clean and comfortable. Excellent food at both breakfast and dinner.
Staff seemed a bit overrun at times, particularly in the restaurant.
Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Excellent food.
Difficult to find reception staff.
The renovation is decent, but layout of the hotel is confusing. Breakfast was good. Size of bed and room and bathroom was really good. The bed lights are really cool.
Layout is confusing, but not a big issue.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable
That i had to leave
Location in the centre. Little noise from Brown Bear pub. Parking outside after 5.30 until 9am Mon to Sat. Long stay car park free 24 hours. Breakfast good, choice of hot plus buffet. Staff were all lovely. 24 hour reception. Large room and bathroom. Restaurant attached. Coffee and snacks in the lovely Dickens cafe.
Nothing to dislike.
Clean, comfortable and modern looking. Friendly staff and quick check in service.
Comfort, privacy, lovely new surroundings
Perhaps needed one or two more staff to help on busy day (Wed)
Very central
Parking difficulties at times
Excellent service
All good
Nice old place with lots of character. Clean and comfortable.
Hit nights and no fan to cool the room down. Very warm room so an uncomfortable nights sleep due to the heat. A ceiling fan would have been perfect.
Le personnel très à l’écoute et sympathique
Indépendamment de l’hôtel, les cris terribles des mouettes, jour et nuit…
Lage
Very basic hotel needs updating. We had deluxe rooms but not sure what made them deluxe. The bathroom was lovely but the room had absolutely no storage or drawers for our clothes so they just went in top of our cases. And no kind of fridge and no water supplied (although they did once I requested it). The photos on here aren’t from the hotel we were in, we chose the top rooms and they were still very basic. The staff were lovely and did what they could to help us (one poor woman was doing everything on her own ) but the hotel was still very run down. Not even anywhere to park
