Nothing
It very out dated. No restaurant very
It was clean very nice
Me my brother got locked in the room 3 times witch i dident think staff did there job all they said was qe dident know how yo lock a door. Emergency contact no one picks up.that was a family room we dident even get offered a refund i will not be back
Added bonus of hamper breakfast
No staff
Positives: the room itself and the breakfast hamper were fabulous, the shower room en-suite was fine and modern,
Negatives: difficult to get proper COLD water, unless you reduce the water pressure; my own duvet was far too thick and on 1st night woke up sweating. The other bed's duvet was a sensible thickness, for this time of year; the total lack of staff was definitely a disappointment, but can get the background reasons for this, such as keeping costs down. However, we were able to use a table in the dining area for our shop-bought fish and chips and made sure we tidied up after ourselves; the parking arrangements could have been better: I decided I should pay £1 to acquire a parking disc which I discovered can be used throughout Northumberland which is certainly clever, but we should have been able to park right outside the Hotel, as there are spaces there. I read the sign to do with parking and realised I had to find a nearby shop to sell me a disc and that was relatively straightforward. To be 'safe', I decided to park thru the stone archway where we enjoyed 24-hour free parking; We wondered if the noisy seagulls were going to be an issue, but amazingly, it didn't bother us too much
Cleanliness
Lack of face to face contact with staff
Easy instructions for access.
Location. It felt like it was an abandoned building. Check out was at 10am, which is fine, but they proceeded to do fire alarm testing before that time and we weren’t notified. The lounge/bar area on the main floor was closed. No toilet paper holder. For the price, it was disappointing.
Great stay. Very central. Breakfast provided in the room, self check in. They provided very nice gluten free options at short notice which was appreciated. Lovely pubs and restaurants nearby. I would stay here again
Nice position, friendly cleaning staff
Not aware that it had become self check-in and we felt uncomfortable being alone there. Not aware of self check-in in when we booked, and had we known this we would not have booked here
The location was amazing.
beds were comfortable
self-checkin not for me too noisy a location shower too small not value for money
lovely breakfast hamper and great position in the town
Loved that we had a fridge. Breakfast hamper was great.
Top Lage, viele Restaurants und Bars und trotzdem nicht laut.
Wir waren rund un zufrieden
The cleaning staff were superb! Very helpful to us while we had to wait.
Location very good; room was clean & bed comfortable. Hamper breakfast perfect as we had to be away early. Fan in the room was great (& quiet)
Room quite small & hot, but weather warm so…… Don’t like foam pillows. All minor “gripes”
Room and beds were clean and comfortable, breakfast options were provided in the room, good location for us, some nice bars and restaurants around. Beautiful beach near by. Decent enough shower and clean towels and bedding.
The room could use some blinds or dark curtains as the sun shone in early morning. The lock on the door was a bit dodgy, could do with a replacement. It did make me feel a bit unsafe with the place not being staffed.. The seagulls plague the whole of Berwick, and we didn't sleep much because of them squawking all night, but this isn't a hotel issue.
Room was clean, instructions provided on how to get access.
Hotel appeared to be totally unstaffed and quite eerie - instructions provided by SMS (combination locks), it had some communal areas (inc a small bar) on entrance but appeared to be totally unused, blocked off and everything was unlit. Some food provided in the room for breakfast in the morning and again no staff present upon departure.
Lication was exceptional, free parking close by and central to good restaurants
Not much as the price suited the situation
Unmanned entry but clear instructions on how to enter hotel and to access room keys were sent on day of visit. Very clean room , comfortable beds , and great en-suite shower. fridge in room and a plentiful breakfast hamper already in place to enjoy in the morning or a wee sneaky snack at night . Consisted of granola, fresh milk, fresh orange juice , yoghurts , croissants , jams , biscuits, chocolate bars , satsumas and selection of hot drink sachet which made a Nice change from the usual fry up . Quiet part of town yet only 2 minutes walk up to main street and equally short distance to the walls for a great walk . Wouldn`t hesitate to stay again
Main things to like were the price and location. The mini breakfast they made available in our fridge was a nice touch.
Getting into the shower was a tight squeeze.
Awful place. Self check in was the only option. Never saw a member of staff during our stay. The place was a real dump so there is nothing to like.
Everything.
We love the hotel & have stayed there before but it is sad without staff either to check us in, give us our keys & even just to pass the time of day! Self-checkin is OK but very impersonal!!
See above - no staff!
Lovely hotel right in the centre of Berwick. Parking 1 minute away which is free. Lovely breakfast basket in the room. Very clean and tidy. Quite trendy with mod cons - iron etc. The shower is definitely a power shower with complimentary shampoo etc. Plenty fresh towels and toilet rolls. Really comfortable and definitely return. The instructions sent to me to arrive were clear and concise. I called the hotel the day before to clarify some details. Very friendly and helpful. Really nice place to stay and very quiet.
Poor check in experience, sending details to my friend not me (the person who had booked and paid for the room. Room smelt of sick. No bar or restaurant and breakfast underwhelming.
Beds and bathroom was clean. Breakfast basket was really good. Location and proximity to free parking was excellent.
The uneven floor and stairs were a trip hazard. I understand the building is listed but still needs mentioning. The fan supplied in the room was dirty.
Nice large room, dark curtains, good quality fan, nice bathroom. Good communication for the self check in. Really substantial breakfast basket left in our room and a small fridge with juice, water, milk and yogurt
Just felt a little strange having no staff on hand.
“Continental breakfast” poor.
It was clean. Location was OK. Managed to park outside.
It was not clear that self check-in meant that the property was completely unattended. The television didn't work and there was no one to report it to. The cabinet in the bathroom was directly above the sink which restricted access making shaving and washing awkward. The breakfast was in a basket in the room but there wasn't a chair or a table to sit at. There was no choice of cereal - granola, that's it. The granola jar had just been refilled over time and not cleaned out as there was a layer of old crumbs in the bottom of the jar. I have no idea if there were other guests in the place, I didn't see or hear anyone.
The location was good, close to restaurants.
Self check in was OK but it felt very strange walking through an empty bar area and up to the room. Access to the room was via a key box, but the lighting was so bad we found it tricky to see the numbers. The room was dark.
Very comfortable bed and bedding , the breakfast hamper was good with fresh ingredients. Room was nice but tv so small I couldn't watch from the bed . Large room and some nice touches which to me made it slightly better than the 3 stars . I remember when there was a operating restaurant below which was great be good to see that come back . Pleased with the room and the breakfast hamper good to see decent shower gel etc . I would definitely stay again
Tv far to small for the room . Thats it
Excellent location and comfortable bed. Very good shower. Nice picnic breakfast.
With the self check in we missed the personal aspect.
Great location and very clean, comfortable bedroom. Very friendly staff and good stop off while we were going to a wedding nearby. Good cafes and restaurants in walking distance and quick to walk from train station. The fan in our room was very welcome!
No cold water, the shower was exclusively and extremely hot. Breakfast was kindly supplied but quite underwhelming.
In a good location, a small double as described, Nice bathroom good shower, comfy bed, good linens.
The breakfast was a bit of a balancing act but prefer that to no breakfast
The hotel's location was excellent, in the town centre, adjacent to all amenities. The room did have a fridge with free cold drinks, plus tea and coffee It is a self-service hotel, so we had no contact with the staff. Slightly off-putting at first.
No direct contact with staff, all info sent to your phone.
Great location. Clean bedroom and bathroom.
Self check in couldn’t get the front door open. No staff on site means completely in personal experience. Walking through the closed pub was spooky, which felt like the whole building was empty. Pre-packed breakfast was ok, but to be honest, I’d have the accommodation as room only, as I’m not keen on pre-packed pastries.
Good location clean just great service no hassle
Breakfast basket in room, plus mini fridge, coffee making facilities. Near restaurants and town centre.
Good location right in the town. Breakfast goodies very nice indeed.
Shower was dirty and we cleaned it before use. Radiator was on full blast outside the door which spoilt everything as it was warm enough already and we thought we had escaped the heatwave only to be cooked alive by a faulty rad! Lack of sound proofing meant everything both outside and inside could be heard clear as a bell so very noisy but that is really not the fault of the owner is it? just consider it when booking. Bedding and pillows smelt slightly damp. When waiting for the details to gain access I wrongly assumed these would be sent the same way all the other inforamtion had been but a phone message was used and I hadn't seen it - so - check every method of communication even if only one used up to that point.
Room nice great location and lovely breakfast
Fin plass, hyggelig betjening.
Ingen kommentar!
Good location and comfy beds. The lady who came to clean in the morning was very friendly.
It felt and looked like a deserted hotel. Absolutely soulless. I would not stay here again .
Room size with everything in
Bed was too hard and too small, but possibly we are used to super king size
Saw Linda as we were leaving and told her how impressed we were with the trail breakfast basket. Comfortable bed, very clean and pleasant room which we would be happy to stay in for a week. Highly recommended
Great location, check-in very simple, cosy warm room, lovely breakfast hamper
This is no longer a hotel, but barely a sleeping hut. The two nights with breakfast were booked by the organization of our tour. There is no staff in the hotel. We didn't see anyone in those three days! Access is via a door code. The breakfast is a meager basket. The cleanliness of the room wasn't too bad, but the rest of the hotel hasn't been cleaned for a very, very long time.
Location
No facilities
No a real breakfast

Nice location, all information given was helpful. Able to check in early and leave our cases at their sister hotel near the station.
Room was very small, but we booked a small room.😀
Parking close by and location plus breakfast box in room

This place is advertised as a hotel reviews including 2026 say the food is good .No bar or restaurant. The place is dark and dingy .I cancelled our stay with there sister hotel the Castle and was told to contact booking.com for a refund but could not get any where with there contact number It is a dirty air Bob not a nice place
It's a great old historical hotel, in an ideal location. We have stayed there a number of times before.
There are no staff there now, and the restaurant is no longer a restaurant. Entry is self-service, as we realised, but I had not anticipated the deserted, empty feeling with no staff there to welcome, and no place to eat. When you think of all the bustling life that has taken place there since it was an 18th Century (?) coach house, it is all very sad. I can understand that whoever the owners are have probably had to make cuts, but I am not sure i will be booking to stay there again. It is as if the life has gone out of the place..
They were reliable about bike storage which was really appreciated, plus the shower was great which was very welcome after a long day cycling! There was a breakfast hamper which looked good.
The hotel is essentially staff-less, which is a little jarring and means no one is immediately on hand should you need them... but communication was very good via phone and they were quick to answer questions/sort issues. Vegan bits for the breakfast hamper would have been great but niche so very understandable:)
We had a lovely stay in this well located, slightly quirky hotel. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast hamper was superb. Self check-in was easy. It's a same the ground floor cafe is currently closed, but we did use the tables in there to eat the breakfast (nothing to say this was disallowed!). Lots of great places to eat within a few steps of the hotel. We would certainly use this place again.
Amazing surprise with the generously filled breakfast hamper and fridge: fresh fruit, milk and yoghurt, juice, croissants and more!
I had booked this hotel months before I visited, they had a restaurant when I booked part of why I decided to book it because of the reviews. Big scores for the breakfast but by the time we visited no restaurant no cooked breakfast, just a ‘hamper’ with limited breakfast options, not enough to make up for the lack of a cooked breakfast, no staff no bar, the radiator in the room was off although the one in the bathroom was in meltdown mode. It reminded me of the hotel in The Shinning, you can’t park outside the hotel unless you have a timed disc, the car park at the bottom of the road is free, but limited to 24 hours max, no return within 4 hours, which is no good if you are staying for more than one night, poor experience will not use the hotel again
The size of the room, t was quiet, central. Very close tonthe river dir noce walk along the river or the wall. The breakfast was simple but great. One of the ladies we met was very helpful directing us to Castle hotel to leave our bags for the afternoon.
We found a pillow case on the side table. There was a bit of dust but nothing too back. My mattress wasn't very comfortable but it was just for 1 noght
Location, size of the room, everything you need, nice breakfast hamper and a great shower!
Location and room
Its just a room for the price self service felt alot
Comfortable and in a good location
No breakfast
The absence of staff
location is perfect information provided in advance excellent room very spacious, clean and comfortable. Good shower good idea to have the breakfast basket
only downside was the fridge in our room was very noisy so we had to switch off overnight A bit impersonal with no staff onsite no wifi password information. I texted but we'd left by the time I got the answer
Lovely room, small but cosy and everything there that was needed. Good location and decent price.
Found it odd that there wasn’t someone there to greet guests. I have stayed at similar places but not one where you walk through a dark empty bar/restaurant to get to the room. Found that a bit strange and quite trusting of the owners.
The owner / manager lovely lady very chatty made me feel very welcome.facilities and location were excellent.will be back
The location, close to access of the rampart walls and places to eat, was perfect. Linda and Sandra, who do the housekeeping, gave us valuable tips and history. Super friendly locals 🥰
Not being able to just park the car and leave it for the entire visit. However, the information given before booking in re parking was accurate and useful.
Breakfast bundle was a good idea however croissants were out of date and milk given was not enough for cereal and hot drinks
It was in a good position and the room was nice and warm. The staff were very nice.
Maybe could have done with a couple extra pillows.
Fantastic restaurant, staff and food. Excellent breakfast options.
The access to the room, up narrow stairs carrying a heavy case. Not ideal for the elderly. Should be made clear when booking. Room not really suitable for spending much time in.
Charming, patrons of a generic Marriot hotel beware.
Noisey neighbours. To be fair, drunk Millennials. Fridge needs switching off.
The hotel was situated in the bottom end of the town by the harbour
Nothing
Location and parking were convenient
Self check in. No staff around at all. Filthy carpets. Mattress was heavily bowed, needed replacing years ago.
The location was good Free breakfast but the items were random. Like jam and a plate but no bread?
- so cold I had to wear a coat to bed since the heater never came on - staff were very difficult to get a hold of. I had to call multiple times just to ask for the code for the door. - housekeeping left my door open so all my belongings were at risk while I was away. - the TV was right next to the bathroom so steam immediatly gathered on it when the bathroom door was opened after a hot shower. - The rooms were really dark Overall awful. Not at all worth the money. Would've been warmer sleeping on a bench.
Contental provided so we went out for breakfast
Had problems gaining access through the front door no one around to help
Всё было хорошо. Всё соответствует описанию про отель. Нам понравилось.
Clean, great location, warm, powerful shower and cheap
The room is small and the mattress needs replaced! Unfortunately I won't be back as due to this.
It was nice and central we enjoyed the spacious cosy and mostly warm room and excellent staff Linda and Sandra who were so helpful and friendly. Thank you
In the night it was touch cold at times but all right. It might have been because it was 0 C.
The location was fab and the room was clean and comfortable 👌
The keypad lock 🔐 took about 10 minutes to get the key. I also wasn't a fan of the no staff to greet or bar at location.
Wasn’t expecting a breakfast hamper and toiletries for the price we pard so that was really good. Stairs were just a bit difficult for my elderly dad but rooms were big and comfy
The bed was comfy!
Everything to be honest! This "hotel" shouldn't really be bookable! When we arrived it took 3 phone calls to be let into the property, when we did get in it was cold, unwelcoming and dark! The reception area was closed as was the restaurant! On our way up to our room the lights only go on when you pass through, visibility was poor! The breakfast option wasn't good , 2 little oranges, 2 pre packed croissants and 2 yogurts, oh a little amount of granola! We were only informed the breakfast option had changed a short time before we arrived! I feel this establishment is on the point of closing, and they are trying to get much as money in before it does ! So disappointed and let down, please be cautious before Yiu book this 😞😞😞😞
The hotel is unmanned but we felt very safe. The room was clean and well presented. Breakfast hamer was enough. Shower was great and refreshing. Only down side was that the cold snap and heating on a timer made the room cold at night. Metvthe domestic staff in the morning, two lovely ladies with pride in their work.
It was central.
Self check in was fine but not aware not manned. False information on booking.com. No bar and no restaurant. This is not a hotel. Nobody else there on Thursday. Felt weird being the only people there. Very overpriced for what you get. Felt almost like the place was about to be shut down. Breakfast hamper basic. Few things renewed next day but milk was off. No more coffee added. Towels not changed. Shower not clean. People talking bad in the town about the lack of service. I would like to ask for a refund. I would not have booked this if I had known all of this.
The hotel was very conveniently situated and a short walk from the station. Self check in was smooth and we were able to drop our bags off prior to check in. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast hampers were well stocked with a good choice of items. I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Berwick area.
Bed was comfortable
We booked expecting a cooked breakfast but was given a very poor hamper in the room. There was no staff in the building.
Location
Having to have a Mobile Phone. Lack of People.
Nice little hotel that is basically a B&B. No one staffs the front desk -- you enter with a door code that is sent by the hotel. System worked fine. Hotel is in a good location, near the water and the wall, about 12-15 min from the railway station. Breakfast was fine, although not stellar. Room and dining area were clean. We would stay there again.
