SiloStay

A fantastic overnight stay at this quirky luxury apartment comple in Little River. Excellent communication prior. Lots of lovely little features. Good kitchenette. Lovely balcony. Comfy bed. Everything was great!

Very cool place and getting in was easy. Parking was kind of a mess as it appeared there were assigned spots, but someone took my spot, so I ended up taking someone else's spot. The bed could defiantly be better, I would give that about a 5 out of 10. There were some cob webs that should have been caught, but that should be a daily thing making sure that fans are clean and no cobwebs. The TV was kind of hard to figure out. I think any time you need a manual to understand how to turn on the TV, that is a problem. I figured it out, it just took me like 15 min. But overall was a good place to stay and a cool experience.

I stumbled across SiloStay on the internet while planning our 30 day trip to New Zealand and had to revise our itinerary to fit this in for 2 nights. We were not disappointed. Inventive, unique, quirky and very well done. Remember to wear socks when going to the lower level to use the toilet at night as the steel stairs are pretty cold on bare feet.

Awsome. Brilliantly thought out use of space. Very clean. Something very different for a change of style but still delivers the overnight stay you so want

Very cool and interesting rental. Helpful owner and a completely familiar but different experience. Try this out if you’re heading to Christchurch or Akaroa.

Truly unique! Loved everything about my Silo stay.

This property was amazing will definitely stay again. Rob was awesome to deal with

Very easy to check in, and our room felt very private and quiet. Very unique place to stay!

We stayed one. Night for my husband's 60th birthday. Wow it you want something different definitely stay there place was very different but wonderful clean and cozy. Would definitely stay again

This is a wonderfully quirky and fun experience which I highly recommend. The burgers at The Little River Inn were also wonderful, as was the breakfast at the little River Cafe. We would happily have stayed longer. Love the toilet and shower, plus a comfy bed. The only issue was there was some slight difficulty in getting the TV signal, but really it was just a beautiful experience.

Great place to stay - very funky. would recommend

Overall it was a very pleasant and peaceful stay in an unusual location. Great scenery and enjoyable time ,have already recommended it to people at work, would definitely go again. It was warm comfortable and cosy

We loved its privacy, very cleverly done. The view out of the window was lovely. Silo styling was perfect. Soft sheets, nice towels, hot shower. Yay, perfect start to our holiday!

It was a fantastic experience staying in the Silo and the overall stay was interesting. The Silo was clean and tidy and well presented. The creativity of the build is super and designed with maximising space! A great place to stay and highly recommend.

Very cool to stay in such a different experience so close to Christchurch

A very quirky well thought out and well appointed apartment. I was very impressed with the facility as a whole and neatness of the surrounding units and gardens. great job, keep it up

Great quirky stay if looking for something different

Quirky, novel and fun. A brilliant idea. Loved it.

Very unique place to stay highly recommend

Fun, quirky place, fine for a short stay. Only complaint was the odor when we entered our unit…disinfectant or insecticide perhaps. Had to sleep with door open to mitigate smell. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Property maintained in a pristine manner, immaculate presentation and care

The quirky ness of this property caught my attention and our stay didn’t disappoint

AMAZING

Great concept, very well built and quite creative with lots of novel ideas. Built 10yrs ago and kept really clean by the current owner. A place we will remember in a very quiet area. Located on the main road, however there were no traffic at all at night. There is no AC, we had a 30C day and the Silo was too warm upon our arrival (one of my fear). However there are fans on both floors that helped cool the place quickly. We had a great night with the patio door open. So no AC was not a worry! A must see IMO.

It was an interesting accomodation 😊 Good host and the place was unique and superb. I would definitely recommend to everyone to try it to experience to stay in the country side, peace and quiet and perfect for a couple to have a great quality time.

This unique property is worth an excursion! Unique and well appointed. My only regret…not booking for more time.

Awesome stay. Great concept. Loved it.

Wonderfully unique with everything required fitted into a small space. Great eco saving loo and hatch that opened to stargaze from bed, Terrific experience

Very unique but functional accommodation. Loved the hatch opening to see the stars, and the stay was a great experience surrounded with wonderful dining options. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it to other couples.

What a unique and awesome place to stay everything has been thought of.

What a great place to stay this is a must

Silostay was quirky, cool, and peaceful, we had a relaxing stay and enjoyed having a bar and eatery right next door.

Stayed at this unique eco-friendly hotel made from individual silos, and it was a captivating experience. The host, Rob, was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The cleanliness and comfort were outstanding, and even the details, like the intriguing light switches, added to the charm of the place. A truly memorable stay! A great place to stay while visiting Akaroa and if making your way back to Christchurch the next day making it a quick 50min from town. Limited but great place for food. No need to look any further.

Fantastic property, well managed by lovely owners. All facilities provided and next door to two great eating places. Quirky and eco- friendly silos have been on my bucket list for a long time. Totally lived up to my expectations. Highly recommended

A very unique experience! Unlike anything we’ve ever experienced before. An amazing concept and very well executed design. Would 10/10 recommend it to anyone. -Hanna & Lu Tampere, Finland

Was a very unique and unusual place to stay but everything was provided and the bed was super comfortable.

Thank you for a great stay, we loved the smell of the macrocarpa wood throughout the whole silo, we were warm and comfortable : )

Very quirky place! Passed it many times and decided to try it out and wasn't disappointed! Would definitely recommend it!

Loved all the pillows 😁

Great fun stay. Incredible sunrise. Property is well thought out and well maintained.

Very cool place, pretty big rooms on 2 floors. We wanted to stay longer, because we liked it so much, unfortunately it was already booked fully. Definitely an experience!

Awesome experience and clean and friendly. Can only recommend it.

One of the most unique sleeping/hotel experiences so far! :) Everything is thought through well and made with love for the details. Great combination of functionality and quality. Would definitely stay there again!

Loved everything

So fun and unique!

Awesome place to stay at. Unique and well set up. Loved everything about it

There was nothing we did not like, everything was great. The accomodation was awesome, it was warm and cosy in the Silo, even though it was minus degrees outside. Bed was super comfy. All and all, it was great and we will definitely book again.

WOW!!! amazing architecture design. What a vision to have and to follow through with it. Eco Eco a bonus while still maintaining the luxury. Extremely clean and safety assured. Highly recommend the SiloStay you won’t be disappointed. Beautiful scenery. History WOW and the community very warm and welcoming thankyou so much.

A wonderful experience Will stay again

Amazing setup! Incredible attention to detail, a pleasure to experience.

Loved our stay at SiloStay. Quirky but functional and extremely peaceful and restful. Didn't feel like we wanted to leave. Excellent design and full of eco functional features. Top Marks 10/10. Met the owners who are obviously passionate about their creation, and very friendly and helpful with information and advice.

Very sustainable, loved the custom finishes. An amazing experience and innovation.

Was an amazing comfortable stay, such a unique experience an amazing setup and design and we would most definitely go back again

Such an innovative and clever place to stay. Must stay when in South Island.

Amazing stay. Will be back

Great, unique and impressive eco design, great cleanliness and comfortable bed. Only minor complaint would be not much storage space for luggage.

Awesome property and great place to bring the family

Attention to detail was second to none, really well thought out. Very comfortable. Will definately stay again!

We arrived in Little River but still hadn’t received the access code for key pick up from lockbox. We ended up phoning Helen who drove down .

Really awesome place to stay, the bed was pretty hard but everything else was tip top

Just a great stay in Silo, loved all quirky bits, great tool box for kitchen bits. Great little diner for food.Easy check in/out.

Quirky, fun and sustainable short term accommodation in between various tourist towns. Majority of the silos have stairs but there is a single level option for anyone who has issues with stairs. Hosts is friendly and very proud of the stays and rightly so. My hubby left one of the vents open as the silos can get hot and we had some mosquito / flys come in as the vent do not have mesh, but easily removed. Silos are perfect for a short term stay and to crash at night to visit nearby towns. Would highly recommend SiloStay . loads of fun and comfortable

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Silo Stay for 3 nights. Very warm & safe. Great local for a chat & a great meal also

Very unique well designed property we absolutely loved it!

We loved the quirkiness of the silos, thinking outside the square.

SiloStay is a unique place where our kids absolutely loved it. We certainly enjoy the overnight stay at SiloStay.

We loved staying in a silo. The chance to look at the stars was a great idea. We liked the quirky appliances.

Unique form of accomodation. Balcony views of stars. Excellent facilities.

Absolutely uquine experience. Room and bathroom were clean with extras in there for us. Great information booklet.

If you want a unique place to stay, this is the place. Highly recommended for a a-typical experience Ensure you visit Akaroa region, especially the pohatu penguin tour for wildlife encounter.

Loved our stay at the silos!

AMAZING property - absolutely loved it!! Love to come again

We really enjoyed our whole experience at the silos .. it was just great as it was so different to every thing else we have stayed in.. first rate!!

Very special place, one of its kind! Totally worth the trip there. Loved every bit of it!

Amazing place to stay!! Very well kitted out too. Would highly recommend for a getaway!!

Definitely different! Give it a go, I’m interested in knowing what this was like for compliance?

Silo-Stay was AMAZING!!! We loved it so much!!! Highly recommend this to everyone! We bought eggs and bread from little corner store next door and had a great night in the Family Silo. Such a fun experience. Thank you.

LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION AN THE STAFF WERE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME WILL DEFINITELY GO AN STAY THERE AGAIN

Amazing to stay in a eco friendly silo! So easy and clearly conscious of the environment

The property is so well done with all the facilities you can think of crammed into a well designed silo space. Loved all the little industrial touches like light switches, kitchen drawers, taps etc. The sky light is great, could see a few stars when the clouds cleared with lights off. Try with the lights on too for a good view of the bed:)

Unique property. Rooms were comfortable, clean and fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed a two night stay at the Silos last weekend. The style of the buildings is both interesting and innovative. The internal fitout and features (water, lighting, insulation, ventilation, skydome, and the bed) really work well. Obviously you would not want to bring lots of luggage as storage space is not enormous. The information booklet is comprehensive and written in a most entertaining style. The use of the Green Dog symbol and the poster wall adjacent to the silos works well to convey some great environmental and social messages in a humorous manner. The local facilities (Art Gallery and coffee shops) are superb and the Silos make for a practical base from which to explore the highlights of the Banks Peninsula. A memorable experience both day and night.

Quirky and unique. We only spent a night but loved the industrial fixtures and eco friendly touches. Very clean and good fun for a short stay (I would require a few more home comforts and storage space for any more than a couple of days!)

Silo Stay was good for me as I needed close proximity to Little River. It contained everything I needed to prepare light meals.

It was interesting- the silos are very cleverly done out particularly the bathroom door that doubles as the shower door- very clever! Nice comfortable bed and nice bedding. Not really anywhere to put your luggage and having the loo down stairs isn’t ideal. We arrived on a hot (for New Zealand) day of 27 degrees and the silo was hot - our welcome chocolates had melted!

Absolutely loved staying in the silo. You had everything you needed. Take up their offer of getting the bread delivered to your silo. Would definitely stay again

It was absolutely eco-friendly! Very unique experience for the whole family

We loved everything! Wish we’d stayed another night

A fun and funky hotel that’s very comfortable. Nice nice cafe and art gallery next door. The silo itself is well equipped with all of the amenities that you would expect plus information on local stores and things to do.

We were amazed at the space conservation and the environmental aspects of the silos. Little things that are no-brainers that people don't think about....running your bathroom hot water through copper piping that acts as a towel rack/warmer. Little things like that. Truly a great experience, and out of the ordinary.

Unique experience. Very cozy. Accessible to Akaroa and the scenic Summit Rd.

Loved the setup and such a pretty town . So comfy and innovative in the silos .

Brilliant escape form busy city life to quiet relaxed night away.

It’s a very interesting stay for the night. I love how creative it can be living in a silo. The design was amazing, the kitchenette, the toilets the top level where the bed and baths were. Somehow level 2 was able to retain more heat I’m not sure why, it is winter period now. Level 1 is freezing. If you are relaxing at level 2, you’ll have to go down to level 1 if you need to use the toilet.

A great experience relaxing quiet had our bikes so did the trail which was great

We had a great time. We rented bikes, went for walks and interesting drives over the hills to the bays. Lisa (manager) was amazing. She really made us feel welcome and the cafés on both sides served delicious food. Would stay again!

The hotel was very unique and it was a fun place to stay.

Thank you for a wonderful experience. We loved the Silos and were really impressed by the engineering, sustainability and quirky details. It's a great base for trips to Akaroa and the Rail Trail to Christchurch. The locals are friendly and helpful and the cafe, gallery, craft shop and diner are all within walking distance.

This place is amazing! The whole concept is intriguing & the guest information book describes the background to the project. The 'green' technology used on the site is impressive. The self-checkin worked well and everything was as described when we arrived. Although the silos seem rather small inside on first look, you soon realise that the clever design maximises the use of the available space so it works very well. We were concerned that it would get too hot on a sunny day but the good insulation and the use of the passive cooling hatch kept it very comfortable. We loved the 'industrial chic' styling and it was amazing to see the stars though the top hatch while lying in bed!

The silo was really comfortable and quirky. The radiator was on ready for us so the room was toasty warm on a cold day and that was appreciated! You need to read guide book as it is hilarious. The room was clean and welcoming and the bed was comfy. There were just little toucheshere and there that made it such a great experience. . I highly recommend breakfast at the Little River Cafe - it was busy but worth the wait. And if you go into Akaroa then go on the Akaroa Dolphins cruise - it is an amazing 2 hours that you won't regret.
