Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The location was smack in the middle for attractions and shopping.
Room was on the small size.
Very beautiful hotel in the common areas and externally. The perfect location as it is right in the heart of everything.
The double bed was quite small and we were a bit squashed. Quite a small bathroom/shower but fine for just one or two nights.
Everything was in walking distance. Free parking. Staff was very friendly.
Room was very small. Bed was uncomfortable. Poor water pressure in the shower. Very pricy for the size of room.
The historic beauty; great location. Staff was great. Great breakfast and reasonably priced. Parking on site included.
Smallish rooms.
Two-thirds of the varied staff behind the desk were not cordial. Few smiles, and there was hardly any interaction. Made me feel unwelcome...more of a nuisance. A couple of the staff were very nice and I appreciated that and thanked them for that. I also had brown stains on both sides of one of my pillows, which was disgusting. I took photos of and showed to staff. Received nothing in return. The room I had was small and by the outdoor exhaust fans. I had to wear earplugs. Could not work in the room and needed earplugs to sleep. The lobby is usually packed with conference people, and that led to a very loud and disruptive environment for myself and perhaps other guests. I have staid at this hotel many times over the last 15 years and more. It has gone downhill. I'm saddened to have to write this review.
I love the vibe of the whole place. The beds were nice and our view was great.
You could see someone maintenance especially the elevator. We avoided one because we didn’t feel great in it
The coffee was wonderful and the tavern magnificent. I really appreciate how the hotel was preserved, honoring the history and original design.
The only suggestion would be to have a small store to purchase things in addition to the vending machine
Centrally located, beautiful space
The beds, linens, and pillows were some of the comfiest I have experienced at a hotel. Very beautiful, very historic. Within walking distance of nearly everything which is why I initially booked there. Our room even had a view of the witch museum, and added to the vibes.
Parking can be a little annoying. One of the lots was closed for event parking, so I had to pay to park in the parking garage until later in the day.
The location and the hotel itself
Great location. Historical.
Rooms are very small. Toiletries are clearly being reused…. Yuck! One even had its top missing.
It was gorgeous but for the price there should of been breakfast or at least a discounted breakfast. I really loved old places and it was what I expected.
There was no fridge in the room. That may take away from the look but it would be nice to be able to chill wine or be able to purchase refrigerated items. There was no ice buckets that I could see either.
Posizione centralissima, affascinante hotel storico con ottima colazione abbondante e goduriosa . Ottima anche la cena al The tavern, ho passato un bellissimo compleanno
Si potrebbe migliorare l’arredamento della camera
Location was great.
A 10 minute walk to the YMCA to only be turned away because I didn’t have the proper footwear to use their gym. The room was so tiny.
The history and closeness to everything Salem
No back entrance have to walk to far to car
We loved the history of the hotel and the central location to downtown Salem. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel had a great atmosphere.
I felt like cleaning of the rooms could have been a bit better. The bathtub was peeling, as well. Some things could do with a little bit of an update.
Location was perfect!
Old world, classy vibe. Super nice staff at front desk and in the restaurant. Our room was lovely and the bathroom had a nice, deep tub. Great shower, fairly quiet AC. The one thing I sorta missed was a refrigerator in the room. The hotel is right in the middle of everything but still very quiet so you could nap/sleep. We would definitely stay here again.
The 'olde-world' feel to the place. Wonderful location.
It's looking very dated and needs a BIG overhaul to keep it going as the rooms and general decor are rough-round-the-edges now. The overhaul MUST be done sympathetically, though. The history and tradition of the place is the appeal!
Very nice accessible to anyplace we wanted to go to

Definitely do not recommend. Not sure how this place gets high ratings. After an evening tour we arrived and beds were not prepared - we needed to call housekeeping, and they sent maintenance with sheets for us to do ourselves. Then we were awaken by housekeeping pounding on door at 8am, waking up kids. We’ve stayed at many historic hotels but this one was worst and would not recommend. Bathroom had sink counter over top of toilet so if you’re over 5’ 6” or 130 lbs you won’t fit! Expensive and not helpful with any recommendations or anything standard hotel usually is — either save money or spend more to stay elsewhere. This is definitely not recommended and won’t let anyone we know make mistake.
Location was great and hotel was very cool
Lovely old building with lots of character, the dining facilities were excellent, nice location just across from Salem common close to the witch museum and just a short pleasant walk from the shops
No coffee making facilities in the rooms, complimentary tea, coffee, and water was available in the foyer but not in the rooms
We love the Hawthorne Hotel. We have stayed there numerous times and the staff is always polite and helpful, the rooms are always clean, and we never have any complaints about our stay. We like having the restaurants and bar in the lobby. It’s a great location for accessing everything in downtown Salem. We are going back again next year.
Very friendly and comfortable.
Small room with no fridge.
Beautiful!
Just getting harder to afford but worth the money I guess
Very close to everything and has so much history. It’s even a bit haunted!
No refrigerator so keep that in mind.
No breakfast Location excellent
They had some sort of plumbing issue so main lobby got flooded. Fans all over but what are you going to do
Just great all round
We could not get into the bar restaurant one day , when we wanted to eat there, seems to not be enough space with weddings going on and other functions, it didn’t spoil it but I have never stopped in any hotel where you could not drink let alone eat as a resident, not great that, can forgo the meal but not to me able to have a drink at the bar is bad, good job I had some duty free spirits in room!
We spent 3 nights at the Hawthorne in July 2026 for an extended family gathering. This is by far my favorite historic hotel! It is clean and recently refurbished. Beds were comfortable. Our room was clean and fully stocked with linens, towels, and toiletries. Housekeeping was prompt and thorough each morning. Paula on night shift had coffee ready before I came down to get it each morning, which was between 5 -5:30 each day. The front desk staff also provide bottled water, chilled or room temperature. Thanks to the fantastic front desk crew for granting our wishes! Catering is great! The family event went off without a hitch! The food was fantastic! The Tavern is a great place to dine or have drinks! We specifically asked for a quiet room and a refrigerator and got what we wanted — slept very soundly! We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return in a few years. The hotel owners are onsite and very welcoming. It’s obvious that they treat employees like family. Just can’t say enough about how awesome this place is!
"We had a fantastic time at Hawthorn suites by Wyndham Dwarka. The location is unbeatable, just a short walk from major attractions and public transport. The breakfast buffet was delicious with a great variety of options, and the rooms were very comfortable. Great value for the money. Thank you to the whole team! Specially Ms Aakansha Associate she is very care in my room and cleaning."
Very beautiful historical hotel! Centrally located to most attractions. Excellent food.
There were some ghost sightings
We had some issues with our ac but staff was very quick to send maintenance to check it out and when it was not able to be resolved easy they upgraded us to a bigger room
Location and atmosphere
We weren't very excited by the tavern's menu
Close to many of the attractions. The restaurant was nice, the food was delicious, and the staff in the restaurant were amazing.
The front desk staff wasn’t friendly. We booked two rooms and were given keys for one. I had to show that we had booked two rooms because they argued that we had only booked one. They found the full reservation and we got both of our rooms, but the front desk attendant wasn’t apologetic or kind in any way. I felt like I had imposed on her. We paid for a fold away bed which was never delivered, and then we had to ask for a refund which they did not want to provide, but eventually did when we proved we never got the bed. We booked a stay because the hotel is known for its library. The library was closed for renovations and we never received a notification. They wouldn’t let even have a quick look.
I was a little worried staying at the Hawthorne Hotel because it’s an older, historic hotel and wasn’t sure if it would feel outdated. It was the complete opposite. It gives classic old money charm while being beyond clean and well taken care of. The staff was amazing. Abigayle helped us at check-in and shared her favorite local spots away from the tourist traps. The room was so comfortable and the pillows were incredible. I’m currently trying to figure out where to buy them for my own house. The location is perfect. You’re right in the heart of Salem and can walk everywhere. They also have a parking lot in the back. I felt completely safe the entire stay. I was nervous since it’s known for being haunted, but never had any uneasy feelings. I’d absolutely stay here again!
Friendly, clean, comfortable pillows
Asked for an extra pillow, never got
Very cool old hotel! Loved the location, you can park your car and forget it, all is within walking distance.
nice room, good location, sense of history.
Central location, good restaurants., quiet rooms
The bed in our original room was slightly larger than a single, smaller than a double. My wife and are both 6 feet tall. There were no queens available, and so we stayed in the guest house next to the hotel. The room was large, spacious and clean, and the bed was a queen and comfortable. But inconvenient for a traveler. No bedside table on one side, for example, and the bathroom had no -zero- counter space. It should have been 100 bucks less.
Needs were comfortable, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, great location to walk to most things, very clean with vigilant staff. I loved that this hotel stayed as original as possible.
No fridge unless you asked, but they made you aware before booking. The restaurant on site is very expensive. It would have been nice to have cheaper options on site as well, even if it was simple food like sandwiches or something.
Location was excellent for where we needed to be and get to.
The Dinning was quite expensive.
Loads of charm in a great location.
Bathrooms were tight but we were fortunate to have two for our room.
Charm. Lobby. Staff. Towels.
Breakfast was so so. Presentation boring. Dinner and service the night before in the pub was very nice.
This place was absolutely gorgeous. There was a wedding party, and it was pretty loud, but that's OK... it's a wedding party! The music was shut down before 11pm, so it didn't disturb us. The bed was really comfortable.
I can't say there was anything that I didn't like. I would definitely stay there again, and I highly recommend Hawthorne Hotel. Everything was clean and perfect.
Our room was stunning, huge with a sofa, writing desk & 2 very comfortable beds with 5 pillows. Sheer luxury. Very clean, beautiful decor. Coffee, water & lemonade available in reception. Location was perfectly for exploring. No road noise. Tried to stay longer as so impressed but the hotel was fully booked. The photos don’t do it justice.
It was centrally located
The room was very very small. The bathroom was even smaller and very old.
I love everything about the Hawthorne it was my 2nd time staying with them and it couldn’t have been more perfect
Location good
Bar was busy in evening & a member of staff tried to get me to move from tsblr
voortreffelijke locatie, stijlvolle entree
kamer aangeboden als double room maar niet geschikt voor 2 personen. Kamer te klein, bed formaat "twijfelaar, 140 cm breed. Inrichting erg gedateerd. Airconditioning niet toereikend en erg luidruchtig
Our three night stay at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA was wonderful!! Our King Room was extremely large and their beds, pillows, ect were soooo comfy!! Everybody at the wedding was talking about how comfy they were! The Staff went out of their way to be accommodating and all were very kind and friendly!! My husband and I will definitely stay here again (Even though we only live one town over 😉)!! We both highly recommend staying at the beautiful Hawthorne Hotel!!!! 🥰♥️ JHDLW
Great stay. Staff was amazing. Great location.
Frequent the hotel, have stayed overnight by history even though we're within walking distance. The Tavern and Dining Room both have charm and appeal, food is delicious, consistent. The Fruit & Cheese Platter is yummy, serves 4-6 + for a tasty appetizer and they'll include Gluten Free Toast Triangles if anyone in your party identifies need.
From the moment we checked in Olivia (Liv) became a part of my daughter's and my vacation. She did everything possible to make our stay fun. We were in room 409 which is a double queen, has chest of drawers, desk and nightstand. The matteresses and pillows were supper comfy. I usually have a very hard time sleeping away from home and was amazed by how well I slept all four nights of our stay. Loved going down to the lobby first thing in the morning to enjoy my complimentary coffee. One evening my daughter #niffypoppins wanted to work in the lobby on a watercolor painting she is doing. Both Olivia and Clare (the manager) gave their approval. There was an event going on and so many people stopped by to watch her paint. (She's usually out painting in coffee shops) And while I'm mentioning Clare...Salem was doing some work on the city water lines, and Clare came around to the rooms personally to update everyone with the details. We took advantage of having two places to eat in the hotel and I'll review them later-Spoiler-enjoyed both. This was my third time staying at The Hawthorne. First time was in the economy room, which is small but served the purpose. The second time was in the double queen with one and a half baths which was perfectly lovely. This third time was in the double queen with one bathroom, ( the shower was in one room and the toilet and sink were in a room right next to it-which was not a problem and could actually be very convenient if someone is taking a shower and someone else wants privacy on the potty!) THIS is our favorite room and will be what we'll be booking next time we come back. Honestly, I can't imagine coming to Salem and not staying at The Hawthorne. The people were all friendly, the rooms clean and fresh...It really is my perfect place to stay in Salem.
Loved an old hotel and breakfast
All was good
svery nice lobbyiwthcoffee
rugs and eferything a big wornl
This hotel is well located just off Salem’s pedestrian street. There were numerous eateries and attractions within walking distance. Like any historical building, the room didn’t have the latest of everything, but it was clean, comfortable, quiet, and well maintained. The lobby was spacious and inviting. The restaurant had great food. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The location was perfect, and the hotel itself was beautiful
The room was quite small, the bathroom door barely cleared the bed when open.
Friendly staff and perfect location
The location is perfect. The staff is friendly and helpful. It has the Salem vibes.
We had to leave!
"The hotel is in the center of the city, within walking distance of all the main attractions.
N/a
The lobby was very inviting from its complimentary lemonade to comfy couches. The front desk was helpful in giving us directions to the different museums we planned to visit. Our room was spacious enough for three adults to share two queen beds. The bathroom was tiny but surprisingly comfortable as there were places to set a brush, makeup, etc. The shower had good water pressure and hot water. The beds were clean and comfortable. They have a noise policy about was easy to get a good nights sleep. I’d recommend this hotel to those visiting Salem.
Location
Amazing location right in the heart of Salem! Lovely history, enjoyed the reception and finding out about the hotel.
Rooms need updating. It’s an old hotel so allowances made for that but bath needs supporting and bathroom door wouldn’t close due to faulty catch.
It was beautiful, in a brilliant location and the staff were lovely.
Nothing.
Beautiful place. Friendly staff
I want to live there!
Clean. Convenient location, walking distance to many attractions and restaurants
Nothing to dislike
We booked directly with the hotel and had a room on the second floor, overlooking Essex Street, one of the main streets running the length of the downtown. Even though we were so close to the busy street we did not hear any street noise! We had arrived at 2 AM and were warmly greeted by the female receptionist who made us feel very welcome. Our room was very clean and spacious. The mattress was SUPERB - I wanted to take it home with me! The towels were the SOFTEST and FLUFFIEST of any towel that I have EVER used. I wanted to take THOSE home with me, too! Breakfast is served in their main restaurant and is ordered off a menu for an additional fee. Service was slower one day because one waitress ('Autumn') was covering the entire dining room due to sick calls. She was exceptional in her ability of serving a nearly full room of hungry tourists, and she maintained an upbeat attitude and contagious smile the entire time!! The location of the hotel was excellent as it was bordering the Salem Common as well as the Witch Museum. Parking was on-site, unsecured lot, and was free. Bathroom was small-ish but adequate and the shower was good. We feel that staying at this hotel was one of the highlights of our trip.
The history, old world charm, staff, pet friendly. Close to good restaurants and a park.
The coffee situation: no in room coffee maker, and the foyer pot was empty both times I checked. I did “steal” some coffee from the Tavern room as the staff were busy with a wedding party. I hoped that would be ok.
VERY small room
Great location! Quiet, clean, comfortable, very comfortable beds.
Amazing property love the room and how close the location is to all the shops
Beautiful property, well located, clean with nice staff.
Room was cute and comfortable. Staff was very inviting, positive and friendly. Location was perfect for walking everywhere.
Although I liked the separate rooms for shower and toilet, it would be helpful to have a counter or shelf in the shower room. Also, a microwave and mini fridge would be great!
Beautiful room.
Crowded waiting areas.
The location, the bed, and the staff were very friendly! Conveniently located within walking distance of the main downtown area as well as the commuter rail station. The windows could open for fresh air.
The room was a bit tight, made situating the luggage and shopping items difficult. It is also an older building so the doors rattled at the slightest shift. It also was difficult to balance the room temperature comfortably.
The history behind this hotel and location
The alcohol policy is one we have not experienced ever
Great stay at the Hawthorne—had dinner in the tavern, great food and cocktails. Room was clean. They said it might be hot and they could bring a fan up but temperature was fine. Great location—right in the center. Two things of note—we stayed on the 6th floor, room 622. The 6th floor is the pet-friendly floor (we didn’t have any pets), and my husband opened the door to get ice and there was a mini Doberman pinscher (cute!) desperate to get in our room. Then the owner came around the corner and could not figure out why he wanted to get in our room so bad. My husband went in search of the ice and saw the couple with the dog was staying in the room that would be exactly parallel to ours on the other side. I had a great sleep. Husband did as well except around 3 or so he was awoken to a hard poking several times on his shoulder. He said I was dead asleep and facing away so it was not me. We are both FAR from superstitious and don’t believe in ghosts etc, so his mind went to someone broke in—but everything was locked up quite securely. He even checked under the bed! After the fact we found out about its ghost stories with specifically the 6th floor—specifically room 612. Again we were room 622, so does 612 (with the doggie) mirror ours? Other people have also mentioned getting poked as well, which we again didn’t see about the hotel till after. So between the desperate dog and the poke, probably nothing—but most creeped out I’ve been in a while!! (Not so creeped out that we wouldn’t go back!)
Location, decor and history. Superb place. So atmospheric. Staff really pleasant and the Tavern attached is brillaint for an end of day relax with a local beer.
Where the room was perfect for us, some may find it a bit small. Being an historic building, the bathrooms are very old fashioned and tight but ibresllt felt this added to the charm of the place. Would definitely stop again.
