Hotel and room were lovely. Although we went in an offseason time and the staff was less but they were very hospitable and cooperative. The stay was very good.

Schönste Unterkunft auf der vierwöchigen Reise. Tolles Zimmer, riesiger Pool, tolle Mannschaft, die sich um alles gekümmert hat. Küche, Service, Zimmer Service, Gärtner und Tuktuk Fahrer - alle sind sooo nett und hilfsbereit. Wir haben jeden Abend lecker gegessen (Kottu, Garnelen, Pasta, Hähnchen) und jeden Morgen ein tolles Frühstück genossen. Es wurde abends extra nach unseren Wünschen gekocht. Alles wurde ermöglicht! Es gibt zwei Hauskatzen und einen Nachbarkater, die dort liebevoll versorgt werden. Im wunderschönen Garten kann man Affen, allerlei Vögel und natürlich die niedlichen Squirrels beobachten. Wir haben uns so wohl gefühlt, dass wir nächstes Jahr wieder zu Gast sein werden! Danke an alle!

Nous sommes arrivés vers 23h30 pour un séjour de deux nuits… et dès le lendemain à 8h, nous étions déjà repartis. Si l’extérieur peut paraître joli au premier abord, la chambre, elle, était tout simplement innommable. Draps tachés et troués, salle de bain dans un état catastrophique : un manque d’hygiène flagrant. Si un service sanitaire existe au Sri Lanka, cet établissement devrait être contrôlé en urgence. Je vous laisse juger par vous-même avec les photos. Franchement, je me demande comment cet endroit peut encore recevoir des avis positifs

I really liked this place. I was using it as a waiting place while I tried to re-arrange travel home due to disruption in the middle east. The old house [155 years old] was really characterful and I enjoyed its old world charms. I didn't go in the newer block behind the swimming pool but that looked good too - perhaps with more spacious rooms. I really enjoyed the swimming pool which was a few yards from my room, through the superbly maintained tropical garden. Breakfast was good - in particular the Sri Lankan omelettes. The staff were friendly and efficient. While it is not on the beach top - as other places I have stayed at in the area have been - the walk is so short as to make that irrelevant - about 2 minutes. A few people have mentioned the proximity to the train track as a downside but I really liked it. While I loved the quietude of the setting when dozing in my planters' chair I also quite enjoyed the interruption of the odd passenger train rolling past. It provided interest.

Nothing at all. Its true that personally I wouldn't recommend the restaurant for dinner, but they do an excellent breakfast, and there are lots of beach top eateries very nearby, plus an Indian Restaurant less than 200m away.

Its the Perfect Place to relax, enjoy the sun at the Pool or at the Beach ( just 4min walking) The stuff is super friendly and helpful. We would defnetly recommend this place!

Huoneet olivat likaiset ja perusteellisen siivouksen tarpeessa. Tahroja pinnoilla, likaa esimerkiksi verhoissa. Pyyhkeet ja vuodevaatteet olivat pinttyneessä liassa ja niissä oli reikiä. Kylpyhuoneet kaipaisivat kipeästi remonttia. Kylpyhuoneen kaapista löytyi tarvikkeita jotka näyttivät siltä, että niitä on käytetty huumeiden käyttämiseen.

The facilities, the kindness and service of the staff, the extensive and good breakfast. The beaches are very nearby.

The hotel is located next to a railway line and trains regularly pass by during the day.

A very relaxing comfortable stay with extremely friendly and helpful staff who kept me well stocked up with bottled water,tea,coffee,sugar and powdered milk.A very nice balcony over the swimming pool with great views of the hotel grounds,the pool too was fantastic!breakfast was not self service,nice fruit platter to start with plenty of toast and either a choice of omelette or fried egg with sausages.Only had one evening meal over my duration which was very nice.Hotel also ran a very handy/on time airport shuttle taxi.Location was very close to the beautiful beach and two very nice restaurants but around a mile outside of Bentota.

The staff were responsive.

The property is not value for money at all. The rooms were very basic. They need a lot of update. The doormats were torn. The towels were stained. Essentially, needs a massive rehaul.

Property is well located, but touching the railway tracks (this also makes it difficult for bigger vans in approach crossings). Pristine beach just 2 mins away (crossing tracks and road). Room was excellent, much bigger than the photos suggested, pool was ample sized and clean. Delicious veg Sri lankan breakfast was provided too.

Minor issue but booking price should include all taxes and service charges. Final price paid was after including 10% service charge. Another smaller point for me, the railway crossing always shows red light (so invariable we cross the red light).

It was nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of Bentota. Across the road was a beautiful stretch of beach that was not busy, along with great beach clubs and restaurants. Included breakfast was always delicious (fresh juice, fruits and either English or Sri Lankan breakfast) and the restaurant was excellent for dine in lunch and dinner despite a small menu. The staff were wonderful, very thoughtful and kind. Their recommendations for sightseeing and booking tours such as a river safari was good value and excellent experiences.

An option for a room freshen such as sweeping the room or fresh towels would have been nice.

La salle de bain mériterait un sérieux rafraîchissement. En effet la paroi de douche était brisé et les visseries étaient toutes rouillées. Les toilettes ne s’évacuait pas très bien.

Услуга массажа прям в отеле- очень удобно и очень приятная пара , брали широдхару- очень советуем. Для знатоков массажа- учтите , что это не классический массаж, своеобразный. По соотношению цена -качество твердые 10 баллов.

Отель стоит прям на железной дороге и в первое утро мы проснулись от шума поездка,но быстро привыкли! ночью пару раз проходит товарный- его я не слышала. а утром и днём мы уже бодрствовали поэтому не мешал сильно. Но если вы чувствительны к звукам или у вас маленький ребенок- это нужно учесть.

The room and the buildings were just beautiful. The room was big and I loved the beautiful garden. The pool looked good, though I didn’t try it. The hotel has its own tuk tuk that can take you to town forms small fee. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was just right. My room had garden view which meant that the tracks were right there at the end of the garden. The sound didn’t bother me. But you can hear it in the room so if you’re a light sleeper this might not be the hotel for you. The garden view was wonderful though. The hotel does not have a private beach. You have to cross the tracks in order to go to the beach, but it’s a couple of minutes walk from the hotel so it’s not a days hike away:) There is a nice restaurant with sunbeds and parasols on the beach that you can use for free if you buy things from the restaurant. Unfortunately the waves were to big so I couldn’t swim in the sea which also meant that I checked out after two nights. I was meant to stay for 4. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was just right. I took a trip to Galle from here which the hotel helped me find a driver for a reasonable price.

Beautiful clean and large bedroom. Staff were excellent and very friendly. Amazing setting with well kept gardens. Yes the train track is nearby but they go past really slowly. The stunning beach is 2 minutes away. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay

Buscábamos un lugar tranquilo donde relajarnos después de varios días recorriendo Sri Lanka, y no pudimos haber elegido mejor. Este hotel es un auténtico remanso de paz. El entorno es precioso, con un jardín muy cuidado que transmite calma, y la habitación era amplia, bonita y decorada con mucho gusto. Todo el equipo del hotel fue encantador: siempre pendientes de que estuviéramos bien, pero respetando nuestro espacio en todo momento. Se notaba el cariño en cada detalle. Gracias de corazón a todos por hacer de nuestra estancia inolvidable.Esperamos poder volver muy pronto. Raúl y Sonia

Es stimmte einfach das Preis Leistungsverhältnis nicht. Sonst ist das Hotel nicht schlecht gewesen aber auch nicht so krass gut. Die Säfte waren schlecht. Das Frühstück okay. Der Pool war cool. Die Räume waren klein. War etwas muffig bei uns und haben 178 gezahlt

Hotel booking was arranged with buffet, During Buffet asking for one egg Omelet his face was changing. That Make us Very disappointed. Exhaust fan was not working in bathroom.

Property was nice and old with lot of greenery with courteous staff..but don't expect any modern facility even phone line in the room was not there neither expect any fancy breakfast buffet rather very ordinary...even the location next to train line is a red flag..

Stayed here for 2 nights during our tour of Sri Lanka the rooms are great, comfy bed large balcony kettle, air-conditioning and plenty of room, the hotel and ground are beautiful with a loverly swimming pool. The beach is only a five minute walk, use The Wave restaurant which is on the beach, you get free sunbeds and the food is very good, they have a singer on some nights who was pretty good. Definitely recommend Sandali Walauwa for a stop on your trip to this beautiful country.

Great location just across the road from the beautiful beach and a fantastic restaurant called The catamaran. Pool and garden excellent and a very decent breakfast. Helpful staff.

The property was a secluded area with a beach nearby , swimming pool for the guests till 10 pm , rooms are beautiful and spacious And THE BREAKFAST was simple but can satisfy all the different tastes in a delicious way .

The property was a bit too open , curtains and windows wise , lack of privacy . The restaurant was not great only had basic food not up to quality .

The hotel is outside the main town, but there is nice restaurants near. They also provide TukTuk if you need anything. The pool was very clean and perfect for our family. The room was big and there was always helpful staff available.

- Lack of music/atmosphere. The food is mediocre but still expensive (go to town or beach to eat). - We felt they were lacking manager. There was 8-9 men working and it was unclear who did what. Last day we had to explain to 4 staff members when we check out.

The hotel is really nice. It is located right near the beach, 5 minutes walk. The room is good, big. Many ants in th bathroom. The pool is pretty nice. The breakfast was big and good. Staff was always ready to help. We appreciate it very much!

It was my favourite hotel i stayed in Sri Lanka. It's super beautiful and i think its cheap. They have pool with a very beautiful garden. The rooms are huge. We had a big balcony aswell. And they had for us a Elephant with a towel and flowers in the bed. Nice touch The food really good and the staff super amazing everyone super nice. It's like 3 minutes walking to the beach and just in front have the train railway. You can see it like 3 times per day, which its really cool. They offer activities like go to a lake to see the mangrove in a boat or make a massage in the ayurveda place that they have. The best part they have 3 baby cats and they care them a lot. It's the first pet friendly hotel i stayed on Sri Lanka. Amazing experience. The beach beautiful and not crowded and very close its wave restaurant, super good place for eat.

Nice hotel with beautiful palm garden and pool. Friendly staff and a very good rice&curry in the restaurant. Breakfast is also good.

The main railway runs between the hotel and the beach which can be really noisy and vibrates the room this will really upset some but didn't really bother me.

We stayed 4 nights at Sandali we had a double room with a large balcony on the top floor with AC which was very comfortable, the breakfast was European stile with toast eggs and a fruit platter , the staff was very helpful and friendly

The pool view rooms.. we left our stay early. The mattress was warn and very uncomfortable, torn and stained. The ceiling fan was so noisy we couldn't use it at night, even on low. The whole block was noisy all night with everyone's a/c turning on and off.... The trains run from around 4am... big diesel trains with horns. I'm not sure where all the reviewers I read stayed !

We stayed 1 night before flight in the family room, which had plenty of space. Beds were comfortable, room nicely prepared and decorated w flowers by our arrival. We used the pool heavily. Also breakfast we found very good (continental w fruits). Beach is easily achievable over the rail and road. The accomodation has own ayuverda facility.

As stated in other reviews, the train is really close, but we weren't disturbed by it during sleep. Bad water pressure and the water in rhe bathroom kind of stinked. Not negative,just comment-if you want to stay on the beach, you need to use one of the beach facilities/restaurants to rent sunbeds (not expensive).

The rooms were big . The bed was comfortable.Ac worked well.

The shower did not work in the room. We had to use the adjacent room shower for the duration of the stay. At breakfast the cutlery was dirty and smelled of egg we had to change it twice before the got us freshly cleaned cutlery. If u are not use to the train noise don't book here as the property is adjacent to the train tracks and at times it can be quite loud .

We had an amazing time and couldn't have choosen a better place to stay. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. Special thanks to the waiter who served us, he was kind and welcoming and made our stay more special.

It was a perfect stay, maybe the balcony door could be more sound proof. Nothing much to complain about, look forward to going back.

It was very peaceful and only a 2 minute walk from a pristine unspoilt beach. Dinesh, Susith and all the rest of the staff were fantastic ! They were so helpful and kind. Would strongly recommend staying at Sandali Walauwa. There is a great beachfront restaurant called The Wave only 100m walk away as well.

We had a wonderful few days at this beautiful heritage hotel. The king rooms facing the garden are delightful. Very tranquil , even the occasional train going past didn’t disturb the peace. Close to the beach and the Wave restaurant . Pool area is spotless and the staff are super friendly and accommodating, If you stay here , you must have dinner here, the food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. A real gem in Benton’s

The staff were very friendly and always there to help. Derek was always ready with his tuk tuk to take you wherever you wanted to go. The hotel was very serine and peaceful. The pool was lovely and warm but refreshing. If you have a balcony, it is lovely and spacious.

Although not the hotels fault, an ATM closer to the hotel would be better. I would ask that the hotel make their drinks menu a little bigger

Beds were not very comfortable, I felt the springs in the mattress. The bathroom was old, but clean and it all worked well. Room was expensive compared to other hotels we stayed in.

My stay at Sandali Walauwa was a tale of contrasts, with the property's charming ambiance clashing with a few notable drawbacks. The room was lovely, featuring high ceilings and an overall pleasant aesthetic that provided a serene setting for my yoga sessions. I appreciated the thoughtful provision of two water bottles and a kettle in the room- The pillow situation was good. On the whole the staff were very kind and helpful.

While the premises were well-kept and really charming, the tranquility was disrupted by noise from passing trains and, at times, loud upstairs neighbors - which made it clear that the building lacked proper sound insulation. An incident with an Ayurveda massage raised some concern. While the first massage was enjoyable, the second session became awkward as the therapist continuously adjusted my clothing in a manner that made me uneasy.

stay was okay. staff were on the whole nice persons.

But for the staff, no one would like to stay there. The owner is least bothered about the wellness of guests. We were taken to the other beach resort -- Wunderbar -- owned by the same owner on 31st night. The dinner experience was horrendous. The order ordered never arrived on time, even after waiting for two hours. The management uttered lies after lies about items available. The service boys were helpless saying that the cook took leave and there was shortage of staff. The owner or some one responsible was never on the spot to address grievances. We will never never recommend this beach hotel for dinner programmes. The Sandali resort had cockroaches moving in the rooms. Sandali resort would be a good place if managed properly with improved services. The ambience is good though reaching from the main road to the site is a very narrow path...

Nice location near the beach and a very good Indian restaurant

The traditional building and the gardens were really nice and well maintained. So was the pool. The location is excellent, very close to the beach and the beachside restaurants. Rooms are clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly & helpful.

Rooms need serious renovation. The bin & the fridge were rusty. So was the a/c. The ceiling was dripping. Breakfast was basic. But then again, you get what you paid for. The price was so low, that you can’t expect a lot more.
