The White Lion Inn

A pleasant pub with newly decorated and refurbished room. Breakfasts were good quality. Fresh milk for tea and coffee was provided. Bath mat provided. 2 chairs and a table in the room. The room was a good size. TV was good quality. Wi-fi worked well and was free.

There were few available sockets for charging our phones and electric toothbrush. Just a small grumble: We had to ask for tea bags as only one was in the tea and coffee tray when we arrived, also only one small bottle of shower gel had been left in the bathroom so we asked for more which we had given to us.

Came to meet 3 other couples travelling from around England for a university reunion. The venue was ideal for us. Comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms. Lovely garden for drinks before dinner. Excellent food for dinner, and excellent breakfast. Also the staff (all of them) were friendly and always helpful - made us feel welcome and at home Recommended.

Nothing. Everything was Perfect. The Only one Thing I Was Disappointed on Was Not Having A Light By The Dressing Table Mirror as there was not enough light for a lady to do her Makeup.

We were looking for a rural base from which to explore Rutland for a few days and opted for the White Lion, as it seemed well placed and in a quiet location. It advertises itself as a 'pub with bedrooms', which is spot on. The pub is unpretentious and welcoming, and is very dog-friendly. It is clearly popular with locals, too. The bedroom was simply decorated, comfy and clean. All the staff were friendly and attentive.

Unfortunately, I don't think our stay was well timed. Our bedroom was above the bar and, while we didn't really mind the noise while one of the England world cup matches was on (understandable and fortunately a fixture that finished reasonably early), the pub also had events in the small garden to the rear on the other two evenings of our stay, which were very audible. Additionally, on two of the three evenings the pub was offering a limited menu: Thursdays are apparently a set 'pizza and salad night'. On the other night they had a reduced menu as there was only a single chef due to the annual road race. I was disappointed that we weren't made aware of this when we booked for dinner, as we had done so well in advance and the pub would have known about both of the menu limitations at that time.

The staff were exceptional! The White Lion Inn is run by a young couple who instantly made you feel very welcome and part of the furniture. They go over and above to make it dog friendly. The standard of food was fantastic and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable.

Great staff and welcome. Very helpful. Food excellent and booking arrangements great. Bar atmosphere lively, comfortable, and friendly. We will stay again. Lovely area - we had a great walk with our dog from the pub before dinner and again in the morning.

Room was a bit small, particularly as we had booked with our dog.Twice I bashed my shins on the petruding bed legs. However, we slept well and lovely view of garden from room.

Had a lovely meal at night, unfortunately did not stay for breakfast, having to be on showground for 7am , they put us up a lovely packed lunch.

Did not realise Thursday night was just pizzas but thats on us i guess for not checking more thoroughly, one guest lactose intolerant twas offered pizza with no cheese and it was ok shame no alternative options for booked guests but like i say our fault really for lack of our own due diligence before booking, place is lovely with good parking gardens and nice rooms, would stay again just not on a Thursday 😬

Location, Staff, Food were all very good 👍. Couldn't stay for the included breakfast due to an early start, but they offered to supply us both with a packup.

The shower temperature did rather fluctuate but not enough to make a complaint.

Breakfast on a Sunday is 8.30 on wards - unfortunately we had to be somewhere else by then so missed breakfast - we did get some cornflakes in our room but not quite the same - no one’s fault just timing issues but be aware Sunday breakfast is no good if you have a slightly early start

The quality and generosity of the breakfasts was a lovely treat. It was very nice too that the chef took the trouble to check on the guests satisfaction too.

Please also give guests the opportunity to book the room that has not been occupied by dogs, I would have much preferred that.

perfect stay! the room was very clean and comfortable. dinner in the restaurant was fantastic, couldn't have asked for for more. I had to leave early morning so no breakfast but they were kind enough to leave me a packed lunch as well. I would definitely stay here again.

The business was closed when we arrived. You check in at 2pm but everything closed until 5pm. It's a joke! So we are taking it further with booking.com and the bank to refund. Avoid this place folks.

het ontbijt kan beter, er was geen keuze in een joghurtje, stukje fruit, een beetje kaas, een croissantje,.... hetgeen ze aanboden was toast en een eitje met zalm, en een bord met typisch engels ontbijt.

The breakfasts were very good with a good choice. Coffee was also very good and the atmosphere very friendly and relaxed. Our evening meal was of a high standard.

The location was very peaceful in a quiet village without much traffic. The room size was great with a good size wardrobe if it was needed. The bed was really comfortable with great pillows and bedding. TV on the wall was in a good place and had lots of channels. The bathroom is very big ... but the bath was very narrow which is odd. It has an electric power shower - which actually worked surprisingly well good news!

Bring a battery power bank - there were no free mains sockets near the bed. Sadly, the restaurant was closed on Mondays which meant a drive out of the village into Oakham itself.

The accommodation, food and service were all excellent. The rooms a re little on the small side but that is a minor inconvenience when the service and welcome is so very good. We hope to visit again and would highly recommend people to stay here.

Arrived on a wet and windy day to a roaring long fire, a warm and welcoming ambience, truly excellent food and great service. We had a lovely overnight stay, a super breakfast and were well looked after throughout.
