The sauna was a very small dark box with out a sheltered area around it, to sit and relax in between sessions, the spa pool looked rather uninviting.

The room had everything we needed, bed comfy, beautiful view of the mountains and food at the restaurant was excellent

The room was comfortable, clean and roomy with everything we needed for a lovely nights stay! The spa was wonderful and relaxing with a tranquil setting. The location was absolutely gorgeous, being under the mountains but also in the rainforest. The receptionist was lovely and welcoming and gave us some information on the nearby attractions in Franz Josef. This was one of our favourite stays throughout our two week journey.

I couldn’t fault a thing. We loved our stay!

Short walk to parking, but that’s expected in that location.

Very cosy park with a lot of available facilities to make your stay comfortable. The reception was very helpfull with booking a helicopter flight.

Nice location and beautiful outlook from the cabin. Easy walking access to shops, etc. friendly and helpful staff.

Limited cooking facilities unless you don’t have a problem with a microwave oven. Not a big issue for us.

Beautifully appointed apartment. Spacious, clean and the hot tub was amazing. The staff were very helpful with things to do when it was raining. Complementary cookies on arrival at reception were well received by the kids.

For the price of the accommodation, the comfort of the beds wasn’t great.

Good location, for being a mix of couples, families, backpackers & group rooms, the retreat was very quiet and peaceful. Bed was comfortable, staff were lovely.

We booked 3 rooms Neinei foreat retreat for 2 nights, got everything we needed. Laundry, hot bath, a hot pool outside, kitchen, and heater. We have a very wonderful stay there. Will recommend for everyone who wants to visit Franz josef

We really enjoyed our stay overall. The room had a lovely and comfortable feel, and I especially liked the mirror — it made us look great! 😆 The bathroom also felt very new and well maintained, with comfortable water temperature and good water pressure. The staff were all very friendly, patient, and helpful, which we really appreciated.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but there are a couple of things that could be improved. I would suggest making the room numbers much more visible and easier to identify, especially at night. One evening, another guest accidentally tried to open our room door with their key. We happened to open the curtain at the same time and startled each other, and it turned out they had simply gone to the wrong room. While it was clearly an honest mistake, having more prominent room numbers could help prevent this from happening. Also, the soundproofing could be improved. We could hear quite a bit of noise from outside the room, so it may not be the most comfortable option for light sleepers.

Great Location and Relaxing stay

A great place to stay! Beautiful log cabin in the rainforest, we never wanted to leave. Beautiful styling inside the rooms and great to have the pub on site!!! I'd make this a destination!

Beautiful comfy room

Great location, nestled amongst the bush. Room was a good size and despite the amount of accommodation near, it was quiet. Spa was modern and clean.

What we didnt realise is these cabins have been split in half to make 2 rooms. It didn't matter in the end as we couldn't hear them at all but was assuming it would be more private. The spa on our deck was beside the stairs and walkway to other cabin. Again, not a big deal, but had thought it would be more private. The room itself was clean but the bathroom needed more of a deep clean. There was quite a bit of hair on the floor and shower.

Very modern, compact unit. Great configuration for a small space. It was nice and warm inside for winter months. Did what we needed it to do - we had a great sleep. Bathroom was adequate, we loved the shower - gave me ideas about how I could improve my home shower! Good location to walk to the restaurants and great that we could park close enough to our unit. Loved all the ferns!!! Close to the Wildlife Centre so we could come and go as we liked to see the kiwis and penguins with the 1 entry fee. We took our Franz Glacier heli tour from this town. All very conveniently located.

Excellent location. Fantastic service, staff were professional, friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended. Added bonus of having a very good restaurant on site, good pub grub and excellent breakfast and great coffee!

Geweldig leuk huisje inderdaad midden in het regenwoud, omringd door palmen en prachtig bos. We hadden het grote huisje met 3 slaapkamers. Netjes verzorgd, gezellige indeling en aankleding. Zit ook heel leuk, goed, en gezellig restaurant bij

Room was gorgeous, clean and tidy as expected, lovely views and the spa was awesome. Highly recommend staying over and of course sticking around for the sumptuous breakfast on offer, great staff, solid location - close to everything. Highly recommended

Room check in is after 3pm, which does mean a delay in being able to get in to our room, check out is by 10 am so you're not actually getting a full day that you've paid for. Usually the hotels I stay in, check in is around 11am at the earliest and a late checkout would be about the same time the following day. No real complaints though.

Veey nice place. Rooms were good and kitchen facilities were enough. Open use of the jacuzzi and sauna were amazing, and a nice bar

We stayed in deluxe 10 and it was spot on - great views, felt very private. The apartment was luxurious with great bedrooms and bathrooms! Hot tub on the balcony felt like you were in the rainforest and it’s all very well maintained

Great stay in a great location. We had newly refurbished room which was excellent!

The bathroom was cold because the towel rail wasn’t very powerful to heat it during winter which made for an uncomfortable bathroom experience.

Had everything we needed for a three night stay. Walking distance to shops and walking tracks. Excellent location for glacier and hiking.

We have stayed in the Gecko Village many times & have always found it great! Love we can bring our dog & love the spa pool.

Rainforest is our favorite accom in New Zealand. We now stay every winter and have a summer booking for our honeymoon. The deluxe units are lovely and a shout out to the Monsoon bar for great food and friendly . In Winter the retreat has stay 3 nights pay for 2. Talk to the lovely Courtney. Recommend booking direct rather than Booking or Trivago.

Our experience was A+ from start to finish. The location and surrounding area is stunning, great weather put the mountains on show. The lush forest surrounding our unit wrapped a blanket of bird-filled nature around us and gave us a sense of privacy. The generous and reasonably-priced rooms were appointed thoughtfully with extra touches rarely seen. A movement-triggered blue light and underfloor heating in the large bathroom. A clever kitchenette unit. Comfortable, solid beds and furniture. The service was consistently helpful and friendly. We left wanting to come back.

The bed was so comfortable and it was the perfect stop-off for 1 night. It was super clean and the coffee and tea facilities were a treat! Super well furnished.

Would have liked a hook/ coat hanger for our jackets as it was super rainy and we didn’t want to leave them on the lovely clean couch.

Forest atmosphere

Location was fantastic easy walk to town, restaurants and attractions. A gorgeous, clean, modern, cosy & warm unit. It was well set up and a delight to sit back and watch a good West Coast thunder storm in the rain forest!

We loved the property and would have stayed longer if the time allowed.

No power due to an uncontrolled outage. Staff were fabulous to deal with and brought around flashlights.
