The wonderful, friendly staff, Amanda was amazing and nothing was too much trouble, exceptional service!! Comfortable cosy rooms with everything you need.
The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was wonderful, the fire in the room was a great and wonderful surprise. The breakfast was amazing. I will definitely come back!

The room in the main section was spacious, comfortable with both bath and shower. The cozy fireplace was impressive as this was winter. On arrival there were some welcome fruits, then cookies and bedside chocolate the following day. Includes tea/coffee facility. I would suggest a small bar fridge to complete the picture. Staff were friendly and kind. The breakfast is good - many options and good minor changes daily which helps if one is staying for more than one day.
The distance reflected on the site needs to be improved. My landmark was Michaelhouse. The site says 2.5miles but it was actually a 30minute drive to and from, including a dust road. The dust road needs to be mentioned so one thinks of appropriate transport options.
A hidden gem which was spotless and immaculate.
Calme, service irréprochable, qualité du restaurant
Beautiful remote location. Warm room, comfy bed
Breakfast was really good! Clean room and very accomodating staff especially staying with a toddler. Attention to detail is amazing and our stay was very comfortable.
The restaurant is not the most kid friendly so you do need to request what you need, however they helped where they could.
It’s charm

This was nothing like advertised The reception smelled like it was closed for weeks The swimming pool was green The property was in poor shape Looms like there have not been any guests for a while
We did not even stay We decided to leave and seek for place elsewhere
The atmosphere and surroundings and all the staff I encountered were very friendly and welcoming.
The chalet's were really well-catered and perfect for a family getaway. Absolutely loved the fireplace and the beautiful views! The staff were exceptional and didn't miss a beat, they definitely made our stay that much more enjoyable! And what a breakfast!
Can't think of anything!
The venue. Excellent
The road. Need to drive slow on gravel road
Their breakfast is quite big, good value for money.
I loved everything about the place.
Lythwood Lodge is nestled in a beautiful setting in the Kwazulu/Natal Midlands. It has an old school charm, with very comfortable and spacious chalets. The staff members were very friendly and professional, and we were pleasantly surprised by the turn down service when we returned from supper. The dining hall was wonderfully warmed with two fireplaces, and the lounge area has a wonderful array of books.
The dirt road to the property is in decent condition, but would be a little better after being scraped. Our fridge/freezer was not so new anymore and created a hum that is audible. It wasn't terribly disturbing though - it was only when the television was off and we all retreated to our bedrooms that it was noticeable.
Clean and staff was welcoming
The breakfast times were a little late and very little variety on the options
The breakfast was lovely, catered to all tastes and preferences.
The option of ordering breakfast to your room.
Beautiful settings in the KZN Midlands. Friendly and helpful staff. Well maintained gardens. Lovely lounge/library. Good breakfast. Netflix is available. Plenty of photo opportunities. We were there for the Midmar Mile event. The property is about 25 minutes from the Midmar Dam.
We booked a two-bedroom chalet. On arrival, we were informed that no chalets were available. We were given two adjacent rooms. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with some modern upgrades. The à la carte dinner was forgettable. The pasta was overcooked.
The breakfast was good but please add more of the fruit salad choices
We were the only guests so it is difficult to comment on how things would usually be

Outstanding! This place exceeded our expectations. From the amazing location to the warm and gracious staff. The cottages we’re super clean and spacious.
Whilst the bedrooms do come with electric blankets, we would have preferred extra blankets.
Breakfast was good but they could improve the fruit. The staff are really a pleasure to deal with & nothing is too much trouble. This was our 2nd visit here & there will definitely be a 3rd !
Variety at the breakfast table could be looked at but nothing too serious. The potholes caused by the recent rains made the roads really challenging & I feel all the farms & businesses in the immediate vicinity could made an effort to try do something about it.
Good breakfast with breathtaking views
Breakfast was good. Like the peace and quiet. Beautiful views. Extremely friendly staff.
The only issue is getting there, especially in rainy or very wet weather.
Very clean and beautifully natural.
All good. No problems.
The breakfast was excellent with the hot food really tasty. The braai on Christmas Eve had a lot of good points. It was excellent value for money, the pap was the best we’ve ever tasted & the chops really well cooked. The staff were friendly & helpful.
The fruit selection at breakfast was a little disappointing & the salads on Christmas Eve could have been better. They were not vert tasty & the variety was lacking.
The location was beautiful and the accommodation clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and we appreciated the personal touches and extra effort that the staff went to. The food was, overall, excellent.
The property was some distance from the main road (around 8 kilometres along a dirt road). This not a problem in good weather, but in rainy weather, it can become a bit of a challenge.
Picturesque sprawling green grounds with spacious cosy cottages
The municipality should be contacted to assist the lidgetton community with refuse removal on the way to the cottage.
Beautiful location. Clean and well equipped chalet. The staff was very friendly and the food in the restaurant was excellent!!

The packed breakfast wasn’t nice
The room was spacious and clean. Large bathroom and a nice sitting area outside. Nice breakfast.
The dinner was not great. We have stayed here before some years ago and seem to remember it being a lot better.
Breakfast options very limited... request not really attended to by chef... I requested specific vegetarian options and was not attended to ... I had to make a formal request ..... Supper.. No menu.. No prices communicated to us.. Nor any bill handed to us on day of meal... Only learnt of prices at check out.... . Location.. Drive to lodge too long on gravel road and location as per goggle maps not properly marked... We went through township which we thought was dangerous..
Breakfast... Too limited.... Requests not attended to..... Location.. Getting to lodge from main road seemed dangerous ... Meals and prices not communicated to patrons.

Everything was perfect
My fire place in the room just weren't working, I think the wood supplied was abit wet and it weren't burning at all.
Breakfast was excellent Room was very nice with a fire place. A very relaxing atmosphere at Lythwood Lodge. All Staff are very friendly.
The drive to the location was a surprise to me, as it was 5km of gravel road from the main road to the accommodation. I travelled on a day that was raining and that made the road dangerous.
The grounds were absolutely beautiful and the lodge design itself is stunning! Pleasant views all around. The detail on the decor is just beautiful. Old world comfort. Also liked that there are self catering cottages as well as catered rooms. The food was absolutely amazing and the friendly staff ready to make the stay even better. We weren't initially booked in for dinner but they accomodated us without event when weather prevented us from leaving the lodge. I especiallyloved the turn down service. The room was also sparkling clean.
It would have been really lovely if our private bedroom fireplace was working. I think this was a fluke event as it doesn't seem that they would leave an issue or bad detail unattended.
The staff or receptionist in particular were lovely.
The location is not convenient at all and there was no communication about the detour to get to the lodge. Not everyone drives a 4x4 and in the rain it was extra stressful navigating the dirt roads. The lodge overall was not clean. Dinner was below average and food arrived cold. My room was cold, not clean, spiderwebs everywhere. A very unpleasant stay overall.
The friendliness & attention to detail was next level, we felt so spoilt. We will definitely be back.
Everything exceeded our expectations
Scenic surroundings, superb food (as always), excellent and accommodating staff, who ensured every request was fulfilled. Great weekend escape with my wife and 2 yorkies, who had an absolute thrill of a time!
The staff were great and accommodating. The setting very scenic. Breakfast was tasty with many options available. All round good stay.
Access roads are in poor condition so a capable car is required
Staff were friendly and went out of there way to make our stay special
The road was under construction and the detour not well sign posted and long.
Well managed & clean. Great service & the staff was super friendly.
The shower doors open up well, I was forced to take a bath.
Beautiful setting in the forest. Lovely getaway
The cottage was perfect for a two night getaway. The views were spectacular and the staff, warm and welcoming.
It was a bit chilly and our heaters weren’t working and we only had 1 blanket in the cottage. This was rectified quickly though when I brought it to their attention.
Friendly staff. Neat, clean, comfortable and cosy chalet. Lovely, relaxing getaway.
Excellent staff! Amazing hospitality.

The whole experience was exceptionally beautiful... The staff were very good...and helpful
The road to the place needs to be tarred..
Up keep is great and location a little bit of travel then find tranquility , it's a bit quiet as it's geared more for weddings and conferences so there is no hassle and buzzel with leisure people
It was well prepared and delicious The staff was very polite ,helpful and friendly Infact the entire weekend was peaceful and enjoyable
We loved everything about our stay!! The beds, the breakfast, the kitchen, everything!!
We arrived in the dark and left in the dark, so we didn't get to appreciate the location much. However, the accommodation, staff and dinner were excellent. Worth a longer visit.
Phone the lodge before driving there. The SatNav will try to take you up a closed road being repaired. The lodge will provide directions for the detour and allow 10 minutes of extra time on your journey.
friendly receptionist
At the restaurant we were shocked by getting cold supper served. Some ingredients mentioned on the menu was also not served. Arriving at our rooms all seemed to be cozy with the fireplace and warm room however once we planned to shower we noticed there was no hot water...
Efficient check in process, staff and the food
Maybe some evening music
Location is absolutely amazing! The old house is beautiful. Very pleasant staff who are very helpful and professional. They were a pleasure to deal with. They were friendly and warm. Pretty dining room.
We were expecting a king size bed since this was the option we chose on the booking. Room was not inside the beautiful main house. Dinner was overpriced for what you got. The breakfast is great if you want a cold and a hot breakfast and the amount of food that they bring you. We would have preferred to choose what we wanted and totally skipped the cold breakfast and pastries. I feel that for a 4 star establishment they should have a proper coffee machine not just filter. En suite bathroom needs an update. There is a pool table in the lounge area but you have to pay R5 per game. I feel that is petty and since we had no change we couldn't play.
Friendly staff, lovely accommodation.
Everyone was exceptionally friendly. My room was exactly like on the photos and had everything I needed. My dogs were so happy with the big green grass areas they were able to explore on our walks, plus I had a safe "stoep" area for them. The food is fantastic and top quality! Can't wait for my next visit.
The short stay
The rooms were beautiful and spacious. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly
The dinner was overpriced. It was not fresh and well prepared.
Location was great - we travelled on an adventure bike so was great - the road is potholed - BUT we saw many cars on the road so if you're prepared to drive slowly and carefully it won't be a problem. Breakfast was amazing - because we were the only guests there was not a buffet breakfast - but we were served the most amazing breakfast - fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and muesli to start. Great coffee and juice. And a full English breakfast. We wanted for nothing. Server was friendly and very helpful. Weather was cold when we went up - but the room was warm and toasty. A gas fireplace, heater in the bathroom and electric blankets ensured that we were very cosy and warm. Fantastic room!
Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. Beautiful views of surrounding farmland and close to the Midlands Meander. The property had a small pool, hiking trail, jungle gym and lots of boardgames, pool and table soccer. The pictures did not do the chalet justice! It was clean, with a spacious and cozy interior. Breakfast was excellent and the outdoor braai and well-equipped kitchen in the chalet were good additions. Great that we could bring along the family dog!
The dinner menu was unimpressive, given the very high prices. The hiking trail could be better marked.
