Great location for a trip to Durham University. We arrived late and left early and the friendliness of staff after hours in the car was exactly what we needed. Room comfortable and breakfast an added bonus.
It was great for what we needed so nothing
Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent and well priced. Free parking directly outside the front door.
Location with a few other pubs/hotels to socialise in along with a choice of other places to eat. IE Indian restaurant with in walking distance and local fish and chip shop opposite.( Ideal for a Takeaway) A lovely friendly service at breakfast..
The Dunn cow in was pleasant But! (And there's always a BUT) We honestly found the restaurant staff pushy once we picked up a menu to basically look at and whilst drinking our first drink in the bar area before deciding whether to stay and eat now/ later ( two occasions we went elsewhere). The night we did eat it was a very enjoyable meal. How ever the staff's over eagerness to take orders and hurry along a relaxing afternoon/evening was very annoying. Felt more like being transport cafe than a restaurant/Pub. The other downside was room seemed to only get serviced once we requested it with the morning breakfast staff. (After our first night and being out the next day we returned to in the afternoon and found no replenished toiletries/coffee or milk in our room fortunately we had not put our towels in the bottom of shower either being concerned about wasting water washing them. Hence we had to go and ask bar staff for replacement coffee milk etc.)
staff were brilliant and very friendly and sorted any problems straight away. check in and out was easy and the food was brilliant in the evening. i would advise booking a table for your dinner as the restaurant can get busy. overall a nice place to stay and eat.
when checking in the room given to us the bed base was broken so unsuitable to sleep in but rectified quickly and transferred to room 4 . the decor in the room is dated and water stains on the walls . breakfast was a disappiontment as comparing to the food we had at lunch and then dinner it was a let down , not enjoyable but may have just been an of day
It had character and its location was perfect for where we wanted to get to. The staff were very friendly and informative. The breakfast was plentiful and good
No
Friendly staff. Convenient location. Lovely historic building and village.
The glass door to the bathroom didn't give much privacy. Needs a good clean in general and would benefit from an update.
Great pub. The best one in Sedgefield. We were looked after by the staff, the dinner was great as was the breakfast. Much better than other pubs in the village AND cheaper!
Can’t fault it. I stay there, eat there AND drink there every time I visit my home town.
Lovely charming place, lots of character Staff lovely and very nice breakfast
Staff very friendly. Convenient parking (blue badge). Meals copious. Room peaceful. Wi-fi efficient.
Awkward steps up into room. Beds rather too soft for our liking. Limited 0% beers available. No dogs allowed.
good value and breaky
matress thin
The atmosphere and the restaurant were very good.
Nothing really.£988 breakfast was not great. The bacon was overcooked.
Great meal
Room was ok but dated carpets in the restaurant need a shampoo
Location was good
Noisy, not the best carpark.
Double charged room and still no refund
The food & staff were excellent. The location was good.
Bed wasn't very comfortable, I could feel the springs. Wifi was poor, very noisy from the bar below the room.
It was beautiful and well placed for us
The only issue was the frosted glass on the bathroom door as it wasn’t fully frosted but we hung a sheet up and it was fine
Central for everything - birthday celebration on the Saturday night and a nice walk on the Sunday before returning for a lovely lunch!
Staff were very friendly too!
Location, character, food, staff.
Cleanliness. Bathroom is not properly cleaned. Dusty surfaces and carpet. But maybe because it’s old and difficult to clean.
The building is approximately 250-300 years old, we love historical buildings and the fact that the owner has tried to keep it original where possible. The staff were amazing who were friendly and courteous. A big shout out to Richard. We had an issue on arrival with our first room, we were moved to another room, were given complimentary drinks and a discount of our invoice also our room was cold so Richard boosted the heating and left it on whilst we were there for 2 nights. Breakfast was plentiful and nicely cooked. Sedgefield itself, is well worth a walk round. It came across as a slow moving village and the streets were exceptionally clean and adorned with beautiful flower planters. As this is an inn and serves meals and drinks until late at night, not once did we hear any noise whilst staying in our room. Whilst we have written a negative, it has not put us off staying here again.
The rooms do look a little tired but that did not bother us as we felt this added to the charm of an old building. The downside was that the rooms were a little dusty and appeared as though the tops were not done every time the room was vacated. Perhaps management could have a quiet word in the house keepers ears.
Nice location Friendly staff Breakfast ok
Very dated even for an old building. Shower mat in bath was all dirty and slimy underneath. Huge cobweb from toilet brush to toilet. Very dusty tv.
The food was really good - we had a meal in the bar on our 1st night and breakfast both mornings which was all delicious & big portions. The staff were all lovely, especially the manager. We loved how old and characterful the building was. On street parking was free.
Sadly the room was not very clean which is a huge issue for me. I don't expect luxury for £60 a night, but I do expect cleanliness. The cups and glasses in our room were very dirty. And the hand soap dispenser had brown sludge all in the pump which was pretty disgusting. And the room was just generally dusty & grimy with stained walls. The pipes were very noisy too. Whenever anyone in any other rooms turned on a tap, it sounded like a rocket taking off! Plus all the room doors slammed repeatedly- which kept us awake from very early in the morning. The TV didn't really work - only got BBC 1 & 2 then about 4 obscure channels. (We even tried reprogramming it but it didn't improve the situation- clearly needs a new aerial.) The bed was very small & pillows very thin. Came away very tired after 2 poor night's sleep.
A very friendly, quaint pub!!! Room was very convenient with everything needed
Nothing came to light!! It was super
The ambiance was nice, staff were pleasant
Cleanliness. The whole place is very shabby. The bed was very uncomfortable. The shower room was tatty couldn’t turn the tap off and glass in the door lacks privacy.
Le côté authentique qui fait son charme, ainsi qu'un super petit déjeuner anglais.
Staff were very helpful and very friendly
Nothing
The staff were superb they made the place, I hope the owner appreciates them. The food was very good and quick service at a fair price.
The whole place needs a full refurb, the maintenance was very bad, for instance worn carpets, rotting windows. Very poor lighting to cover up the dust and decorations . The tap in our washbasin would not turn off what a waste of water. We were concerned about the state of the electrics if they also suffer from poor maintenance. The drinks were expensive to pay for the owners 3 cars 2x BMW sports cars with gullwing doors and 1 Jaguar how do you drive 3 at once?
We have always enjoyed our stays here as the rooms, the staff and especially the food are 1st class.
We booked for a Sunday night. I also booked a table in the restaurant for 8pm. We stood to be seated at 7.55 pm. The person who greeted us said you will have to eat in the bar as we are setting up for breakfast. After a discussion She left, came back 2mins later and said you can go in the restaurant. Looking around the majority of tables were set up as you would expect with wine glasses etc for food not breakfast. The waitress asked if we would like a drink and then announced that there was only haddock and chips or scampi and chips available. Not something that either of us would choose. We said I suppose it will have to be scampi. My wife asked if the chef had anything else available she left came back and said no. She asked if there was anything vegetarian she went into the kitchen and about 30 seconds after she left to see the chef our scampi and chips were put on the table. The other waitress never came back. We asked a few questions and were told that last orders were 7.45. and there was nothing left. When I booked the table there was no mention of this in fact WHY would they take the booking. They started clearing up around us while we were eating. When we got up the next morning there were only 5 tables set up for breakfast and this was in the area at the front of house near the door, where we have always had breakfast and Not affecting the main restaurant. When we came down to leave we told the manager everything and he was disgusted. After a long talk and apology he told us that he would not charge us for our stay. He knew that we booked through booking.com and said he would sort it. He told us to get in touch with him in about a week to see what was happening. I contacted them by email but havent had any reply or money back. Unfortunately this experience was very much below the standards that we have experienced from our many visits and is totally unacceptable.
Lovely pub & great food. Rooms are simple but do the job.
Great food, fabulous staff
Very old hotel which has kept a lot of the lovely original features. Staff are superb, very friendly and helpful.
Only small criticism, would have like fruit at breakfast.
Lovely friendly staff, fabulous tasty breakfast, great night sleep, value for the money paid excellent location and highly recommend.
Rooms could do with a little tlc but didn't effect our stay
Absolutely lovely stay,, breakfast was amazing. Exceptional quality pub food and portion sizes. Good menu choice , staff, friendly and polite. We will be back...

Lovely old pub in a nice town
Bed not very comfortable.
Friendly Good location Exceptional breakfast
Stair carpet needed cleaning
Friendly staff, great breakfast
The dining room carpets were dirty from night before. One would expect at least the carpets vaccumed
Breakfast was excellent, clean, parking close, reasonable price
As always lovely
Great place to stay with really good food and nice room with a good shower. Staff were helpful.
Very comfortable beds, great breakfast, fantastic staff and lots of character.
The carpets could do with a good deep clean.
Quality of food served at The Dunn Cow Inn on a evening is 1st class. The place is packed every night. Sedgefield is a gorgeous place to stay with lovely building, shops, pubs and services.
The exterior of The Dunn Cow Inn needs painting. Many of the window frames are rotten, paint is peeling. I feel the owners should undertake these repairs ASAP.
Breakfast lovely and fresh also staff friendly and a lovely quiet night sleep.
Brilliant location. Breakfast was lovely and freshly made
Rooms were dated and bed extremely squeaky
Homely
Just a little bit dated
Friendly welcome. Pleasant room.
Friendly reception and service
Very friendly and attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent breakfast.
Location in centre of town. Good English-style breakfast included. Customer parking at the back. Coffee in room.
The place was dusty, musty and felt grimy. Carpets were filthy and the whole place needs a refurb. Church clock chiming every 15 minutes all night made it difficult to sleep soundly. Bedside lamp not working.
location
breakfast staff and service was poor
Food very good big
good breakfast friendly and obliging staff
Nothing
Lovely village, beautiful Sunday lunch. and a lovely, oldie, worldly property. Bed was really comfortable and nicely made up.
Breakfast, was too oily, swimming in fat! Dirty cereal dishes, we had to ask for some clean ones. The bedroom skirting boards could do with a good clean.
I liked the food and location
The staff where abit off
Good location in a lively and busy pub with rooms. Excellent pub food and great service.
Rooms are clean but a little tired.
Perfect room and stay for one night. Good location in the centre of Sedgefield and nice breakfast. Pub was a good place too and although didn't eat there in the evening, looked very popular
Bar, restaurant, staff and amazing food
Room too hot despite turning rad off. Can’t open window due to traffic noise. Bathroom tired, only one bath towel.
Typical small town pub with rooms. Room cosy with added en-suite, but perfectly good enough for a short stay. Evening meal was fine, beer good and an extensive menu. I am suspicious though that my Monk Fish goujons were actually a cheaper white fish - I thought I should complain when I was eating it but I didn't as there was a lengthy pub quiz going on at the same time - my error. Breakfast was fine, although no juice was offered.
Hot water way too hot. There is a warning sign over the sink, but why have it that hot? Query over Monk Fish main course as above.
Gorgeous old pub in the heart of the village. Lovely food. Perfect location for anyone visiting to go to the Blues Club.
Nothing, its a lovely place.
It’s in a perfect location, with professional helpful staff and excellent food
Everything is spot on
The Dun Cow is a friendly village pub with nice staff, a very good cooked breakfast on offer and nothing was too much trouble
The room was hot and I couldn’t turn the radiator down
The staff were friendly and the food is excellent.
Rooms are tired and very dated. Mattress needed replacing. Not enough staff on so long wait to be served at the bar.
Very friendly staff that would help with any questions asked. Co.petitive prices with excellant breakfast.
Nothing
All great, Many thanks
Breakfast good & location fine
Bed and upstairs needed a little updating - carpets
All the staff were friendly, helpful and made you feel at home. Excellent pre order breakfast, fills you up for the day. Room was traditional historic style, love these types loads of character. Had a snack in the evening, great service and tasty food just what you need. Nice selection of real ales with recommendations, one reason for our selection.
Would come back anytime and recommend to anyone to stay. Parking can get busy around lunch time, so might need to look around, still plenty od space around the hotel.
Lovely old place made to feel very welcome after a long cycle
The staff and comfortable rooms with great food
Good value for money and excellant breakfast
Nothing, would stay again
Excellent Value for money in a friendly and comfortable environment. Both breakfast and dinner were very good with plenty of choice to suit all tastes!

Location, value for money
Bed too soft. Nearby church clock chiming every 15 minutes overnight. At first you think it’s charming until you’re waiting for the 3:15am chimes !!!🤣
Excellent staff
Could do with a bit of modernisation in the gmbedrooms
Very friendly good service
Bed needs to be replaced
The staff were super accommodating and veteran friendly. Room was very warm and cozy. Food was bang on!
Parking a bit hit and miss. Decor bit dated but would not stop me coming again. Excellent service.

Friendly welcoming staff, good bar, excellent quality food & value, good sized portions. Very good & attentive waitress service. Quality breakfast, good portions & excellent service.
Decor & carpets dated, not a great mattress on bed,but overall excellent value for money.
Service was excellent, the staff could not do enough for us, hotel rooms were very clean.
Just a small thing you had to book and order your breakfast the previous day, appetites change, it may be easier to give the customer the opportunity to order that morning but they may have to wait.
All staff were very friendly and the place was great

The location is in the centre of the village walking distance to race course. Breakfast was good plenty of choice.
It is a very old inn so it decor reflects this.
Food excellent, parking available and it looked clean and was comfortable.
Wifi worked in the bar but not in my room.
