The welcome drink was a nice touch however the mattress was not comfortable due to softness/compression from wear and tear.

We had a wonderful two nights. The staff was great the room clean comfortable and a great sleep

The hotel is in a prime location if you want to visit The Prado, have a night out in Chueca, or simply want to do some shopping on Gran Via.

The most amazing view!

The hotel is excellent but the staff exceded my expectations, from the guy at the entrance to the lady at the front Desk, and the guys at the bar and at the restaurant.

This hotel was super clean, and in a great location. It is pretty much walking distance from the main area. The service and staff was amazing. However, it was just a little loud at night due to the noise coming from outside. Other than that, the hotel was a great choice. My favorite spot was the terrace on floor 6. Amazing view.

An elegant hotel on the Gran Via. a short walk to the Prado or Puerto del Sol or Plaza Mayor. The staff is charming and accommodating. The breakfast is excellent.

Lovely hotel. I've stayed in many hotels in Madrid. This is my favorite. Staff is friendly, and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and has beautiful views from the terraces. My flight arrived very early, and I was lucky enough to get in my room. The location is convenient. Near the Prado and good restaurants.

Worse than expected, but there were positive sides as well. The Ático restaurant is good value. The terrace for drinks is nice. However, the bathroom feels a bit cramped. The shower is good. The cleaning service was really slow and without much extras for turn down service. There is no refrigerator in the room. Location is the main plus, even if we would choose another location and hotel on our next trip to Madrid. Service is below what you expect. Another annoying thing is that the pool was closed down already the first week of October.

Elegant, beautiful and quiet. Excellent terrace bar and restaurant. Beautiful breakfast. Staff were friendly and accommodating, provided private transportation for early arrival at airport.

Our stay at The Principal Hotel in Madrid was disappointing. Though the staff was welcoming at first, the hotel itself fell far short of expectations. We booked a junior suite expecting extra space and quiet, but the room was surprisingly small, and the hotel was very dim with poor lighting. Worst of all, the noise outside was unbearable—people were yelling and drinking late into the night, making it impossible to sleep. This caused us to miss the prepaid breakfast the next morning. When we spoke to the front desk later, the clerk was apologetic and offered to comp our breakfast for the next day and cancel the previous charge. However, the new shift ignored this promise and charged us in full. They were so disorganized that when we asked for our luggage to be brought down (as we had a driver waiting), it was left untouched. After breakfast, we were stuck waiting for an elevator that didn’t work, and the staff offered no help. We had already checked out, so we didn’t have the key needed to access the other elevator, and again, no one assisted us. Despite the high rates, the service and experience were subpar. We had another reservation for the following week but canceled it. The hotel is overpriced, the rooms are small and noisy, and only a few staff members were helpful. They made promises they didn’t keep, and overall, they don’t seem to prioritize their guests. Avoid The Principal Hotel if you have the option.

The room and service were above and beyond fantastic. The patio was beautiful. The hotel staff was super friendly and unbelievably helpful.

Amazing hotel!!

This was our first stay in Madrid and we absolutely loved this hotel. It was luxury in all the right ways - great service, beautiful rooms, attentive to our needs. The bedroom was larger than most European hotel rooms and the view was beautiful of downtown Madrid. Great central location between the park and the palace! Can't recommend more!

Over all amazing experience

The hotel’s location is very convenient and the restaurant, terrace and lobby area are very nice. Reception staff was great. However the bed (mattress) in our room was very uncomfortable, the shower was clogged and service at the bar and restaurant was extremely slow. We did not feel our stay was at a 5 star hotel for the price we paid.

Centrally located near the Gran Via, the hotel allowed us to see a great deal of Madrid during our two nights in the city. I was disappointed at the small size of our room but I know that’s not unusual for Europe. While the rooftop bar was closed during our stay which was disappointing, there was another terrace at a lower level to have a cocktail or snack while seeing the top of the city.

I selected this property primarily for its location — its proximity or easy walk ability to POI including the Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen museums as well as to the Plaza Mayor.

This hotel is TOP NOTCH! It has every amenity you could ask for and the staff is wonderful! It is near the center of the city and almost everything is within walking distance! This is a must stay if you are in Madrid!

The hotel was excellent with good but intimate feeling common space. Wonderful staff. Very good dining. They offered car transport which we asked for. However the price was not disclosed resulting in a VERY OVERPRICED transfer from the hotel to the train station. Disappointing really. 65 Euros for a five minute drive.

Staying in this cozy, comfortable, well situated, and very clean hotel was an absolute treat for my 24-year-old daughter and me. The staff truly went out of their way to be sure we were happy and well cared for. In particular, Juan Carlos saw to it that we had whatever we needed and even included some extras to make our stay that much more special. I couldn't recommend The Principal Madrid more highly.

The hotel is beautiful, like a lot of the architecture in Madrid the building is so well kept and characterful. The layout is different, with the reception and spa facilities at the top of the hotel and the rooms below, but it was fine, there are 3 lifts to service guests (as well as stairs). The location couldn't be better, you're right in the heart of a very busy city and a short walk from a wonderful market (Mercado San Antón), as well as being in the heart of Chueca (night life!). The room I opted for (Superior) was spacious, well appointed, with a lovely big open shower and separate WC, climate controls in the room worked very well but being on the 'City View' side meant it could be quite noisy late into the evening and early in the morning (but you soon get used to it). Not the cheapest place to stay but offers are usually available and I would heartily recommend this hotel, with plans being made to visit there again in the new year.

Great location. Our only issue was having to track down housekeeping for tissues, coffee and soap. They would often come by when one is getting ready for dinner and slip a note below. Had turn down services one out of 7 nights. Not consistent.

This is very fine hotel. Perfectly located. The restaurant is always top. The staff is great. Waling distance everywhere. We always stay at The Principal when traveling to Madrid. We just found out the same Family owns several more hotels, one in Calle Serrano "El Unico", which we will try next time. It has a 2 Star Michelin Restaurant.

Great position in the centre of Madrid. Friendly and helpful staff. Bed very comfy but rooms and bathroom small. Shower not very powerful.

I only stayed one night at this lovely , fairly formal Spanish boutique hotel. It is exactly the type of hotel I look for filled with character and attention to detail. Lovely service and left us both chocolates and sparkling wine. Great tapas and dining near by with bustling sidewalks well past midnight. Captures the spirit of Madrid.

Wonderful stop!

Having just come from a 5 Star Boutique hotel in Barcelona, where the service was lovely, inviting and kind, I found the service and attitude of the employees at the Principal unfriendly, staid and not very helpful. Our room was quite small, and the noise on the street from construction began at 7:00 am and was quite loud.

We really liked everything about it EXCEPT it was very loud outside until almost 4am (it was a Thursday night/Friday morning). Our room was on the 3rd floor so definitely try for something higher. Otherwise we really enjoyed it and would stay there again.

It was a wonderful place to explore Madrid. I'll be back!

The customer service was outstanding. Everyone was top notch. I wished I could recognize everyone from memory, but that is just not possible. Pablo went completely out of his way for us. We were having trouble with an Uber driver, and he walked us to a corner and gave the driver instructions on where to meet us. In my opinion, that is above and beyond. Edward brought our bags to the room and offered our first impression of the staffing at your hotel. He too was excellent, informative, and very courteous. We have absolutely zero complaints about our stay at the Principal Madrid. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The reception, lounge, and bar area, are well appointed, comfortable, and well staffed at all times. The only meal that we ate at the hotel was breakfast one morning. No fault of theirs, we just wanted to explore Madrid. The breakfast was outstanding and plentiful. Thank you very much for a wonderful and pleasurable stay.
