Excellent location - reception staff ok. Restaurant good and waiter exceptional.
Tired out of date and poor condition room. Desperately needs room renovation. Booked room for 3 with breakfast “included” but only got breakfast for two.

The Prince Arthur is located downtown, with a nearby casino but don't let that bother you. Their parking lot has ample space for cars, and seems secure. We have stayed here several times over the years and have never had an issue. Harbourfest was happening as well as a street festival and the Prince Arthur seemed to be in the midst of it all. Great location! Our room was large, 2 queen beds, and a coffeemaker with pods was included, as was a full breakfast in the cafe. We also had dinner in the cafe/ restaurant and it was excellent. Comfy beds and pillows, very nice towels were all appreciated at the end of our long drive.
The hotel is possibly the oldest in the city, not sure, but it was certainly very elegant in its day. You may notice some peeling paint on the antique doors, but this is nothing major, just adds character, like an old home.
Breakfast ok
The room had an unpleasant smell - I think it was musty carpet. The vending machine didn’t give correct change. Desk clerk said we should call them. Pretty poor response In my opinion.
The suite was spacious and beautiful with a lovely view of the waterfront.
The historical significance and of course the harborfront
Loved the location and seeing the Sleeping Giant from our window! Loved the lake view. The complimentary breakfast was awesome. Liked the fact that they made space for the wildfire refugees. I also have to compliment their security. The room key which is required for access to the hotel in the evening and also required to work the elevator is appreciated as there’s some sketchy people hanging around but they hang around everywhere and these security methods keep the guests safe. I don’t understand the complaints about needing to use key cards to make the elevator go etc. I was glad for it. I have to say a thank you for the security guard who chased away a weirdo for me one night in the parking lot! They are really on the ball. The front desk and all the staff we encountered were polite and friendly.
They need more pillows on the beds
Breakfast was good. I liked the standard eggs and bacon served at the table. Location was good. Parking was fine.
More places to hang a towel/washcloth. Stronger coffee, real glasses and cups, not single use.
Close to the medical facility I was scheduled to attend
Shower in my room was nonfunctional, the restaurant had a very limited menu.
breakfast was real good
needs to be updated. old carpet and furniture.
Great location.
A few more comfortable chairs to sit on in the lobby would have been great
The breakfast was delicious
The pool was freezing cold and filthy. The hot tub was in pieces. The AC unit stunk. The window did not have a screen.
We know that the property is very old and it needs some updating and tax
When we booked it on booking .com I phoned you front desk and I asked if swimming pool was working and they told me that everything was working perfectly pool sauna and hot tub well we booked 3 rooms a suite , a single room, and a double queen bed room and we have 4 kids that was travelling with us and we wanted to make sure that the pool was operating if you told us that the pool was no operational we would gone somewhere else but they told us that the pool was working and the hot tube and nothing was working we where very disappointed and upset and we paid a very full price it was very disappointing we all where upset when they told us that the pool was not running properly it was ice cold the hot tube was not working and the sauna our 3 rooms never got cleaned no new towels we had to phone front desk for clean ones garbage was never pickup for the time we stayed there and we left the paper on the door for the room needs some cleaning and never got done all 3 rooms we would like some refund back on all 3 rooms if they would told us that the pool was not working properly we would gone somewhere else for that price per room
We had the family suite which consisted of two bedrooms with a sitting room in between. The overhead light in the sitting room was on and could not be turned off because it was controlled by a missing remote. That would be a problem as the light would shine into one of the bedrooms all night. Staff was not available to fix the problem so it was remedied by putting a blanket over it which didn’t completely solve the problem. Moving to a similar room was not available. The bedding was fine but were only full size beds. Decor was minimal other than a floor plant. No pictures. The couch in the sitting room had a couch cover that was used to hide its wear and tear. A wing back chair appeared dirty with age. There was an indoor hot tub of the above ground variety but had no water in it. It didn’t seem like it was in a bad neighborhood but they lock the doors at 9 and there is a security guard. The view over looking the water front was good.
Having driven from Winnipeg, we were tired and needed a place to stay. We couldn’t believe how expensive Thunder Bay was! The Prince Arthur seemed to be reasonably priced, and although the reviews weren’t great, we decided to give it a shot. How bad could it be? Right? Well… I do love an historic building and I was excited to explore this grand old lady. Unfortunately, the grand old lady was a decrepit disaster. And beyond sketchy. Our room, while spacious, was incredibly run down, grimy and just generally icky. It’s really too bad, because the 10-foot ceilings, original brass hardware, solid wood doors and grand, wide hallways would be spectacular with some TLC. And not just a little bit of TLC… it needs to be completely gutted. Would not recommend staying here…pay more and stay spmewhere clean.
Restaurant was wonderful. The renovation was nice, and the service was wonderful. All the staff were great. Air conditioning unit in the room worked well, and was clean.
There was no power in half of our room. We had to re-arrange the room to get a bed close to power outlet for c-pap machine. No instructions or TV guides for the tv, or other electronics in the room. There was a big gap under the door, where we had to put a towel to keep light out from hallway. The door did not lock. ( Old school chain lock, but no door lock) The carpet was dirty, mattress cover torn, and dusty in the room. The pool was not labelled to where it was. Needed to ask the security guard to show us where. Once found, half the amenities listed on the website were removed or out of order. ( no sauna, hot tub empty, and pool not heated/ice cold) Was awkward needing to use our room key to open doors of elevator, move the elevator between floors, or open any door in the hotel.
Location
Nothing
Great location, antique interior, and amazing staff! Breakfast was delicious and the beds were comfortable.
The outlet in the bathroom wasn't working which was unfortunate, and some of the furniture in the room was a bit beat up / dirty.
It would have been good to allow substitutions for the breakfast to the same value as the included breakfast/
"Tired" hotel in need of a re-do
Breakfast was amazing! Next visit is like view of the water Clean place, smell was good
The soap, had an allergic reaction, will bring my own next time, had a hard time turning on shower, it was hard to pull, and couldn't get a tv guide Didn't like the tweakers in parking lot, but good to see security. It would be nice if they didn't hang out in over pass
We booked a jacuzzi room - when we got to our room it was dirty, old, stinky (not renovated like pictures) and no jacuzzi. We thought they had made a mistake so we went to ask the front desk and then they said - oh, all the jacuzzi suites are under reno. Which is odd, since they have photos of renovated jacuzzi suites online when I booked it... they said they gave us the equivalent suite. We asked to be downgraded to a standard, cleaner room - but they told us they would downgrade us but still charge the same. We would have left if we were not so busy for work. There was a mouse in the room, tons of stains all over the furniture, carpets, and bed, caked on dust on the ceiling fan, mold in the shower, paint peeling off the doors, etc. Absolute nightmare. Nothing was offered to fix this either, no voucher for restaurant or anything at all. No apology either - just take it - or leave. And unfortunately due to schedule, leaving was not an option. What an absolute scam. Also, the parking lot is full of shady people hanging around all hours smoking, doing drugs, and harassing you.
Very racist security guard to the indigenous culture also told guest to shut up for no reason very disrespectful to all the staff especially that one bigger guy with the black hair that’s balding he’s very rude as well
The other guests were cool to talk too.
People in uniforms, I mean costumes
Safe
Nothing wrong with the property
Juzzuzi tub and the layout of the room
There was a mix up with a payment and i happened to.not be there they then kicked my brother out with all my things Nd banded me for accusing me of smoking when i dont smoke..... its to bad i was disrespected.like that because i frequently kike to stay there
After a very long day travelling from Saskatchewan we pulled in here to get the deal advertised on all the billboards coming into Thunder Bay. As it turns out, there are maybe one or two rooms per night with this low discount rate. So we bit the bullet and paid a little more than we had planned and got our room. It was not properly cleaned so back down to the front desk and now a second room. The front desk people were very helpful and we were satisfied. The best part of this deal was the FULL breakfast included the next morning.
The building is very historical and in the heart of downtown Thunder Bay. The staff were delightful, the facilities were lovely, and the rooms were clean and spacious. The complimentary breakfast also exceeded my expectations!
I'm not a huge fan of the scent of the cleaning products used in the rooms. It left an interesting odor that was hard to ignore.
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful
Our floor in the room wasn’t completely cleaned from the previous guests. There were false nails on the floor by the bed
old building. Shower is not very good. Price is a little bit high.
Breakfast was good, beds were comfortable.
Staff was very rude. Walls were paper thin, could hear people screaming in hallway all night. Very old and damaged.
Anything I liked was over shadowed by hardships faced as a senior. I couldn't even shower.
The bed was too soft. There were no grab bars by the toilet or in the shower. The toilets were very low, making it difficult for me, as a senior, to get off.
Front desk staff (especially morning staff member), very professional , friendly and helpful.
Two fire alarms, one pm and one am. At least I know they work.
Not much.
Elevator was not working. Room was very old. Doors didn’t close, bed was not comfortable. Restaurant was terrible. Sent the food back and left with nothing.
Heat didn’t work in my room on the first night
Beautiful architecture, love the location
My heat wasn’t working in my room but got a beautiful upgrade for the inconvenience
Cleanliness
Beds were not comfortable beds are too small for a couple You could feel the bed springs inside the bed mattress it was not a nice sleep and you can hear the spring when you got off the bed :(
Built in 1911 I was anticipating a classic charming hotel. Unfortunately, it’s very dated, tired and it looks like the suite doors have been broken into. When I arrived at the beginning of December my first room was 47F. They moved me to room 2 and it was 58F. It took awhile to find a 3rd room with basic heating. Poor.
It’s a beautiful old hotel, I had a comfy room with a great view of the Sleeping Giant. I was sitting in the car in the parking lot of the hotel during the evening when a man approached from behind and knocked on my window, startled me. Security came and patrolled the parking lot. I remember this hotel from many years ago, in its former glory. It’s still beautiful but it’s no longer a real hotel, it’s more of a residence, subsidized by a bit overpriced Hotel rooms.
Drunk or high residents of the hotel wondering the hallways.
Location is great.
Need a bit bigger parking spaces especially for the bigger vehicles. Beds were a bit too hard..
The view was amazing
Jacuzzi was not ment for 2 people and the jets were broken.. The water did not get hot enough plus when we went to bed we found strands of black hair in the bed..
I don't understand how this hotel has such a mediocre rating. While the secured (& 24-hour security) parking lot is great, the rest of the hotel is a disaster. The front lobby was clean, yet the customer service was extremely slow. I understand scheduling or staff issues don't always allow for 2 members but it was at least 20 minutes while the receptionist checked in two other couples in queue. The room was a complete disaster. From one hanger in the closet to badly stained carpets and peeling paint on the walls and bathroom walls. The cupboard in the bathroom was broken, with water damage and a chewed up corner, and the taps seemed to be installed backward. The toilet appeared to be an industrial toilet which was so loud, and the bathroom door only closed while being pushed hard. The bed only had two pillows, and the night stands were chipped and scratched. The view of the waterfront would have been gorgeous, had the train not been going by at the frequent intervals it had. Entertainment was great with fights on our floor and noise all night from other guests. 0/5, would never go back.
Historic hotel close to waterfront
Thunder Bay itself has challenges of homelessness, vagrancy, and addition.
Location. Beautiful views close to Lake Superior
Room is seriously in need of complete renovation
Very nice
Nothing
Location, value and great breakfast.
Wasn't as clean as some other hotels.
Close to restaurants. Nice restaurant. Friendly staff. Quiet.
Beds a bit hard
It was a beautiful place- I had a view on the Lake and Harbour. The sunset and Sunrise was just spectacular. I like the fact that there was a security gurad near the parking lot so my car was safe and I felt safe when bringing my dog outside. It was very quiet. Loved this stay
Loved its historical significance! Felt like European hotels we’ve stayed before. Would have liked to have more bathroom shelf or counter space for placing toiletries but not a dealbreaker. Will definitely return!
Lovely harbour view if u can get it! Close to shopping and sunrise on the water.
Given the age of the property, it was in good condition. But, some areas of the room needed painting and there were small amounts of mold in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The shower could use some more pressure, but I’m sure that’s a challenge in an older building. My biggest complaint was breakfast. They apparently had just switched over to a new ordering system, so it took 30 minutes to get breakfast and It was cold. I had multiple people try to sell me something in the area outside the motel, but I never felt unsafe.
The age and history behind this place very interesting also quite impressed the knowledge staff had on this place
Clean room, friendly and very accommodating staff, pool area was spacious and fun for the kids. 10/10 for our stay!
All was great but the room carpet was sticky and we had to leave our shoes on while in the room . Definitely needs a new carpet ! Excellent staff and especially our breakfast waitress !
Overall decent and nice hotel. The people hanging out the hotel weren’t great.
We needed a place to stay for the night, and this hotel fit our budget (I didn’t expect hotel rates in Thunder Bay to be so high!). It’s definitely a rundown property, but surprisingly, we had a good night’s sleep. The bed was comfortable, and it was quiet enough. Breakfast was actually pretty good—better than expected. Overall, it served its purpose.
Didn’t use gym
Vintage, classic hotel, lovely harbor views. Very clean,, parking and breakfast included in rate.
Room was very uncomfortable. Mattress caved in on one bed. AC unit mounted 3 inches away from the bed right at mattress hieight so could not use really. Carpet super dirty - there was a big size portable air drying unit placed in the center of the room as if they were trying to dry it out. Furniture dingy and dirty. Corridors dirty and stinky. The location is surrounded with drug users so many seringues and other garbage around made it unsafe to walk around and even very difficult to safely take my young dog for his needed strolls. Staff was very helful and welcoming.
Historical building architecture and the park at Prince Arthur Landing and Marina is just out back of the hotel.
The room was wonderful - very spacious. The bathroom was very clean with lots of hot water.
Dated hotel in an area that felt sketchy at night. Good to have secueity guard in lobby.
Rooms were dirty
Front desk staff are friendly. Old hotel but room was clean and comfortable for the one night stay we needed.
The room is not serviced during the stay, it has to specifically asked. We stayed for 5 days. Even when serviced, only garbage is removed and towels are refreshed. Carpet is very old looks full of germs- must be replaced.
The room was fabulously extra large, clean and comfortable. We had a great sleep. This hotel was built in 1911, but has been maintained well. The outside of the hotel however felt very sketchy. There was a hotel security guard that was around. Def needed for the area the hotel is located. The train station is out front of the bay, it’s a beautiful scene of the bay there. The restaurant served a decent breakfast. But only two in our party could eat for free with our hotel stay.
Poor parking lot limited spac hot water slow to get hot.
