Amazing art exhibit and location is excellent
It was different
Prices of the restaurant
Great location in the center of the city. Cool art in the lobby.
Valet parking is $35. I thought I would park in the street but a number of homeless people were begging within yards of the hotel.
It was unique; the location was exceptional.
The property was beautiful. The staff was excellent! They were extremely helpful and friendly.
in our room... small holes in the sheets, the glass table was so wobbly we could not use it, the coffee machine was very loud and there was mold in the glass shower along the floor. we were in room 311.
The room is very clean and has everything you need from a hotel room. Toiletries are top notch.
The main reason for the lower rating is that they had a maintenance team doing lock checks at 10pm. This meant that I was woken up by a knock on my door at 10pm, and heard a man outside my door saying "I just want you to know that I'm not trying to get in" followed by someone pressing a keycard against my door repeatedly and hearing the lock shift. When I called the front desk to make sure that this was actually a maintenance person, they called him immediately which I appreciate, but I heard him continue to knock on doors, including mine for a second time after the call. Could be a one off but just super weird and unsettling experience as a woman alone in a hotel room. I put a chair against the door and bolted every night after that.
right downtown, super friendly staff, really nice and big room, great gym (even has sauna and steam room). I appreciate the Elkay water filling station in lobby. And the art in the lobby is actually really cool and inspiring. Definitely will back.
Very unique.
The gentleman working in reception was not very friendly when we noticed we were booked for 2 rooms. It was later resolved, but his cocky demeanor left us very disappointed.
We valet parked since we knew we did not need to drive anywhere since so many things are within walking distance of the hotel. Check in was quick and easy, the staff was friendly. The elevator came quickly. Our room was clean, the shower had plenty of hot water and a good shower head. The only comment we have is the noise level in our room as the walls seemed thin and we could hear everything the family with children next to us were saying. But they quieted down in the evening so it was fine. Also, they had some interesting art pieces in the lobby.
I loved Chef Melanie’s new summer menu, the “brekky” biscuit, the French toast, the shakshuka, and the yogurt bowl! I was impressed with the local fruit used in the breakfasts. Tassia explained how it really is farm to table in this restaurant and also arranged something special for me. Sarah was extra diligent on my first morning. Tommy was a knowledgable and entertaining server. He explained the art in the restaurant. Guess which one is made out of Lego-you will be surprised! Matthew at the front desk was gracious and welcoming and in my chat with Devon at the front door we discussed the new professional women’s softball game which I attended. My room was spacious, with a 180 degree view of downtown. Especially for the thunderstorm! The art in the museum gallery was stunning, heartbreaking and surprising. New takes on sustainability, labor history, and which artists we choose to elevate. My room smelled fresh and the lighting artfully divided the room into zones. Housekeeping was responsive. Great use of a renovated bank building.
Having a custom blend coffee is cool, but maybe add a darker roast option for visiting Seattle coffee nerds?
Location, coziness, the bar
Quartos confortáveis, funcionários bastante disponíveis
Do fato de ter um voucher com valor fixo para café da manhã
The location was good and convenient to restaurants and downtown. The room and facilities were very clean. Staff was friendly. The art gallery on site was a wonderful, unexpected feature that we really enjoyed visiting during our stay.
Breakfast was not included. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom/shower.
I want to recognize that the hotel staff and valet service were exceptional. Every interaction I had with them was friendly, professional, and welcoming. They truly deserve recognition for the outstanding service they provided. The food was excellent.
Unfortunately, my breakfast experience was extremely disappointing. I waited nearly an hour for my food while multiple parties who arrived after me were seated, served, and finished eating before my order was even taken. I was also left waiting over 30 minutes for a glass of water that was offered when I was seated. The restaurant was not busy, so the lack of attention was inexcusable. It's unfortunate that such poor service overshadowed an otherwise excellent stay.
Wirklich schlecht ausgebildetes Personal.
Location and staff are great
The vault and the art exhibits are a great addition to an already interesting building, my kids loved taking it all in.
No complaints about my stay.
It is centrally located and within walking distance to DPAC. I like the decor of the room though I hope the lights could be brighter.
The reception is not always manned.
Location cleanliness
Slow to clean the room We had to remind them Broken coffee machine
The art and friendly staff.
We had to wait an hour to be served breakfast. We were told the kitchen was backed up with orders. We ate breakfast one day but went somewhere else the next day.
Great location and my king room was spacious- both the room and bathroom. The attached art gallery and water filling stations are a nice bonus.
The properly is tired is some areas - including the hallways to walk to your room which look like a hospital. It’s not inviting nor fitting for a 4 star hotel. I realise it’s a heritage listed building, but the hospital feel brings it down and acoustically makes it loud at times. Nespresso machine in my room was broken and clearly ignored / not replaced. One set of blinds was extremely loud and crunching when you open them and one beside light would not turn off - no matter what switch I used. I had to unplug it from the wall. These are small things but they add up because there is a lack of attention to detail for a 4 star hotel. Also some staff were excellent, others looked like they didn’t care at all.
The museum.
I have stayed at other 21c hotels and this one is below par. The room was shabby. It needs a facelift. Nothing special.
Beautiful luxe property. Very cool vibe nice rooms. Great bar and restaurant. Museum was a very fun addition. Staff was superb.
It is pricey. And $35 a night to park.
Novel presentation of interior with art
No hot water. Phone never worked. Communication to valet didn’t happen and resulted in long wait times
The art in the lobby was so fun and interesting
The location in proximity to DPAC couldn’t be better
Location and decor
No hot water
Andrew was my valet person, he was so kind and helpful . I was so confused on parking and proximity and Andrew showed up in front of hotel to help me navigate and took great care of my vehicle. Kudos to him.. Miguel our server at the resturant in the hotel was top nodge , efficient and very attentive.
The parking is confusing if you are not from the area.. the valet is the only way to go
Super cool space!
Not much
Great location. Cool design. Nice rooms. Very clean. Great staff.
Breakfast room. Too fussy and fancy and expensive for breakfast. Better to go out locally.
The room was comfortable. The restaurant was very nice. Great location for downtown Durham.
My room wasn’t ready at 4 PM. I waited about 45 minutes for it to be open.
Great staff, very clean and unique property.
Price and location.
Probably would not stay there again. Room was tiny, lighting not great, quality just so-so. We were charged for breakfast that we did not have. They claimed it was credited back to my card, it was not. Had to dispute the charge through my cc company.
Location and modern facility. The vault was a cool feature. The valet person was very friendly. So was the night person at the door. They were very helpful and friendly.
The check in man with the dreadlocks was professionally discourteous. When I told him that we had requested an early check in time he became argumentative and asked to see the email we received approving the request. He denied my request and then five minutes later, found a room. We set our room to 65 degrees and high fan, neither of which worked. Woke up in a sweat it was so warm.
Very convenient and able to walk everywhere downtown. The restaurant was amazing.
We got a deluxe king room. Pictures made it look spacious but it was actually pretty small. The toilet paper holder was broke, a holder in the shower was broke and laying in the floor, and the outlets in one of the nightstands didn’t work.
The showery had lukewarm water. The staff said we had to run the water for several minutes but it still remained lukewarm at best. Don’t feel right running water for 10 minutes or more just waiting. The room was cold. Heater never properly worked. The staff told us heat was motion sensitive. What happen when I fall asleep. Valet was confusing at night. Really one of the worst hotel experiences. Simply not worth it.
Art work staff vibe
A bit of a maze
Clean and convenient. Would stay here every time.
I can't think of anything
Stan the Valet was excellent
Building was cold
Great service and loved being surrounded with art. Clean and comfortable room. Delicious breakfast.
Attended a bat-mitzvah the other week that was beautiful and enjoyable! There was a young man in all black wearing a yarmulke over his braids (didn't catch his name) that saved the day several times! When the av didn't work, when the bar was missing something, when the lights need adjusting, everything. He even took time to escort my elderly aunt to the (very precurious here if you haven't tried) bathroom when she was lost. The bartender (think his name was darius) even took the time to hand-make more mix for a mocktail my daughter was LOVING, even after the bar ran out. 10/10 service from the event team at 21c!
Wonderful art and uniqueness of hotel! Great food and service! Very happy 😊
It would have been nice to see additional artwork. Many things were not available. Had a broken lamp in my room (902).
The room was horrible! I had two rooms because the first one the ceiling had a LOT of water damage on the ceiling and in the bathroom, there were bugs in the room and stained carpet. The second room was not as bad but had the same problems minus the bugs
The museum and proximity to great food and night life.
Had to change rooms, first room had a bad smell and the refrigerator didn’t work. Second room the shades on one side of the room were broken and couldn’t be opened. Tv had bad signal. Charging ports on right side of bed were dusty and inoperable.
Cool location downtown. The hotel itself is really fun with an art gallery and things to walk around and look at. The view from my room was great, and the bed was pretty comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The building is old and the windows aren’t well insulated. I was there in the summer heat dome and it was pretty hot in my room even with the shades down and the ac on blast. Seems like the vent was pointed straight at the little entry hall where the door was so maybe was loosing the cool air to the hall. I think a fan or something to circulate the air would have been helpful.
The museum was outstanding. The staff were all excellent.
The room was a little dark and folks were very loud in the hallways.
Location
This whole experience has been terrible. From booking spa appointments, to booking the room over the phone with hotel staff. Staff cannot confirm anything! I have never seen such a disorganized mess in my life at a hotel.
The staff was friendly
The place is old the heat didn’t work the water didn’t get hot in shower
Location is n the downtown
Lack of Christmas decorations
We spent 4 nights at the 21c Museum hotel.. This experience from beginning to end was exceptional- the folks at the front desk were helpful and polite and gave us some background on the art. The bed was very comfortable( I have a bad back so this matters). The service was what you would get at higher end hotels. The hotel is spotless, the room serviced everyday without asking , This hotel is an old bank with many sections such as the vault and the flooring preserved. Everyone from the valets to the front desk were polite and you can tell took pride in their job. The shower in room 612 was exceptional. We loved everything about this stay. If you like the Raddison go to a Raddison- if you want a truly unique experience, surrounded by art and excellent service, book this hotel!
All the staff were friendly and positive
The cold/hot temperature in room - hard to control - no instructions. All of the pillows were huge and uncomfortable
The location was perfect. Right in the middle of downtown. Very walkable. The workout room was well stocked. And I loved having the sauna to relax in after a workout. The art was enjoyable as well.
The sauna had a big ol roach in it.
Lovely hotel in the heart of Durham. Hotel was clean and comfortable. We were there for a family wedding and had a very nice stay.
It’s proximity to Saturday market and waterfront. The staff was extremely responsive to our requests and acted immediately to satisfy us
The bed comforter was too thin for this time of year, but they got me a second one immediately when I reported the issue the next morning
Location and on site restaurant was great. The suite was roomy and bright, bed and pillows were comfortable.
Upon arrival the front desk told us our suite wasn't available and tried to give us a regular{small} room. It took 30 minutes before we got a suite. They also didn't want to honor the price.
I saw Brandon for a 90 min massage and he was incredible. I've had many massages and he was absolutely the best. He was professional, accommodating, deliberate in his technique, and made sure to set the tone with a calm and relaxing environment. I look forward for my next trip back and will be booking again.
My wife and I stayed here because of good reviews, convenient location, and a reasonable price. The staff we came in contact with were friendly... the room was clean. However, several issues made the stay less than memorable. We entered our room and found the temperature at 79 degrees - though the thermostat was set as low as it could be at 65. Also, the main sitting area was very dark - not helped by the fact that the chain-driven blind was stuck in a way that prevented opening. I contacted the front desk and, to the hotel's credit, a maintenance person came within 10 minutes. She worked with the blind enough to open it up about 2/3 of the way, allowing light to enter. It still couldn't be adjusted, but that was OK with us... we had some light. She also called someone in the building regarding the heat in the room, and he made some kind of computer adjustment & we were told that the AC would now work. We left for a concert and returned late.... there was no improvement in the room's temperature. It never got below 76 degrees during our stay. We were in no mood to ask for a change of room by that late hour... Maintenance in general in the room was not up to a high standard. There was a cracked window pane, the panel surrounding one light switch outlet next to the bed simply fell off if touched, and both shower heads had leaks at their bases. So.... my overall impression was not positive. I wouldn't choose the 21C next time.
The 21c Museum Hotel will definitely be my go to spot when I’m in Durham. I walked to the guest check-in and was instantly mesmerized by the art! The room was curated so beautifully that I forgot I was actually supposed to check in. Hamid greeted me with the best energy and really set the tone for the warmness I would experience with the rest of the staff. My room was super clean and I loved the way the room was decorated. The catered food was spot on and Sarah was so attentive to our company’s needs. Even the gentlemen at Valet were amazing! The hotel is in walking distance of the Amtrak station and the view from my room was stellar. I look forward to visiting Durham again just to stay at 21c Museum Hotel.
The restaurant was a wonderful surprise - excellent at dinner. The room was comfortable and had a large well-appointed bathroom. Staff was cordial, competent.
Convenient location. Interesting museum items
Costly.
Unique
Nice large room.
Lack of service. Waited for a valet to park my car for 15 minutes. No offer to help with luggage. Went up to reception. Waiting another 10 minutes for someone to show up to help me check in. Received a coupon for a bourbon tasting that was supposed to be good from 8 pm until "late". Well, by 10 the bar was closed. Although I appreciate the whole museum vibe, the hotel has a very cold and unwelcoming. I wouldn't stay here again.
Construction in room next door at 530am. Rotten way to wake up. So inappropriate for a hotel
Construction in room next door at 530am. Rotten way to wake up. So inappropriate for a hotel. Restaurant flooring needs replacement. Look dirty
I like the gym and sauna, the pillow and bed is comfortable too.
The food was not really tasty. Freshness is questionable. Some stuff in the room is worn out, for example the wall outlet in the bathroom is wobbly, and it takes a bit long for the hot water to come out in the shower.
Location was excellent. Check-out service was friendly and helpful - and I was able to store my luggage.
Service on check-in was poor. Room felt worn and dated and the seating was not at all comfortable. The room was also noisy with the lift lobby nearby (and I specifically asked for a quiet room away from the lifts when I booked)
If you enjoy art you will LOVE this hotel museum. Feels like spending the night in a small gallery.
Great staff and convenient location for us
Great location
Nice spot
The room was clean! Love the shampoo/conditioner/lotions. Liked the Nespresso machine but it was tricky to work even with directions (more pods are needed also - my daughter chose medium roast & I was stuck with Dark Roast which was way too strong). When we arrived, my room was extremely hot. I let the front desk know & they said they’d send “engineering” to fix. My daughter and I turned the air down to 65 degrees and left for four hours. Came back and the room was still stifling hot. I called front desk again and they assured me it had been fixed. We went to bed very hot and woke up in the middle of the night freezing. Staff was very kind. The hotel seems to be under some level of construction or is just run down. For the price we paid, I would assume it would be a pristine hotel. The location of the hotel is ideal. Valet parking is your only option and VERY pricey.
I absolutely love this hotel. It’s a gem in NC and I love how passionate and friendly the staff are…
Stay was great other than a rude bar tender. Walkable, clean, check in staff kind and helpful.
The hotel is in a very good location. Staff was excellent. I loved the art on display. It was an interesting touch. We will definitely stay there again.
Not bad the hotel is cool and in a ok location but the pictures are not a representation of every room like the bathrooms/shower does not light up purple like how it shows in the pictures
Very walkable to shops and restaurants in downtown Durham. The walls seemed incredibly thin and we could easily hear other guests conversations. Self-parking is limited to street parking, which is free on the weekends but is limited to two hours on weekdays. Room was clean
