Very unique historic building. Comfy bed and friendly staff. Good free breakfast. Just remember when you try to take a noon nap that the ghost organ comes alive on the hour every hour! Took us by surprise the first time! Pet friendly too.
The Courthouse is in the historic/older part of Powell River. Access is via outdoor stairs and the location isn’t what I expected. Our view was somewhat obscured by the old pulp mill. PR is a unique town with tons of history. Definitely worth a visit.
The room and bathroom were cramped and cluttered but clean. The bar fridge in the room cycled on and off loudly even when turned off. Unfortunately the plug was behind a heavy piece of furniture so not easily accessed. No live TV only streaming. Most disturbing was the swearing into a phone that took place in the alleyway between the hotel and I suspect a mental health accommodation at 9 pm, 3:30 am and then again at 6:50 am. Could hear it clearly as the bathroom window was kept open by a screen. Otherwise the area was very quiet at night. Just not good for sleeping. Great location for walking as very historic.
The hotel was lovely and the breakfast was amazing! Only stayed one night but would definitely recommend.
Comfortable bed, unique hotel but lots of stairs and brf was served late
Owner very obviously does not care about this super run down property. Best thing about it is the breakfast in the morning. Also tried a scam we've seen in Europe of charging the credit card for random missing or damaged items well after we left. Charges ultimately reserved after complaint but not satisfactorily. Stay anywhere else.
Tiny room, but comfortable bed. Great included breakfast.
Charming historic boutique hotel. Lovely owner.
All of the ties to the town
Very friendly staff. Egg-cellent breakfasts!!!
This is an old building converted into a quasi Bed & Breakfast style Inn. Located in the Powell River historic/old section, it's about a 4km drive to the newer town area where all the typical services are offered. And while the Inn has charm & character, if our room was indicative, they all could use significant upgrading/renovating, ie, single pane/hard to open wood windows, bathroom towel rail detached from the wall, & the bathroom door didn't lock. Additionally, the included breakfast starts at 9am which is rather late. On the plus side, check in was easy, the king bed was comfortable & breakfast was tasty. Generally speaking, it's clean & comfortable but IMO 2.5 to 3 stars is the overall rating I would give it.
The restaurant and included breakfast was excellent. Wonderful service team. I will be back.
Loved the hotel, the room, and especially the delicious breakfast included in our stay! The room was well equipped and very comfortable, and the eclectic decor really made our wedding weekend feel special. It was exactly what we were hoping for! The only issue we had was that the hotel cafe was closed on Labour Day without any notice -- an issue especially since the breakfast was included in our fee. Such closures should be communicated to guests well in advance so we can prepare for a disruption in regular service.
Very unique property like stepping back in time
Definitely a charming old hotel, with lots of cool knick knacks in all the hallways. However, we found our room VERY small. Only big enough for the double bed, a small dresser and a sink. Also a tiny bathroom with toilet and tiny shower stall. Didn't like the curtain separating the main room from the bathroom. Needs some TLC overall. One HUGE plus though was the included full breakfast. Choice of items including eggs benny, eggs/meat/breakfast potatoes, etc. and including coffee/tea. And excellent service, though a bit slow with only one young lady waiting tables.
This is a quaint and cute older hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean. I only stayed one night but would stay again. I did find a bug crawling on my sheets, but it wasn't a bedbug thankfully. Breakfast is provided but doesn't open until 9 am, and I had to leave earlier than that, so I missed out on that.
Enjoyed the antiques around the hotel. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in the cafe was outstanding. The only thing I would change was having the hall light turned off at nighttime.
What a gem! Booked this hotel last minute to avoid rain while camping! Ended up being a trip highlight! Hotel has exceptional staff, especially Anna is so wonderful. The place has lots of character and charm. Great setting for a murder mystery film!
The manager was fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming, even though we came in late. This building really was the old court house and each room in the building, from the 1910s or so, has been converted. The decor, strangely enough, reminds you of Asia or perhaps Asian fascination from that period of time. Downstairs is the equally fascinating Edie Rae cafe where you will get the best breakfast (free with your booking) that I have had in a long time. The location is the old section of town. Since the mill closed the area has suffered, but there are many great buildings to look at. Downtown for shopping is a 10 minute drive. I can't recommend this place enough.
Very accommodating, had a lovely stay here.
Very unique property and would definitely stay again when in town
Really interesting historic property with very unique eclectic, historic and artistic decor. Building and property is getting a bit tired, but was clean and very serviceable. Would stay here again.
We had a room with two beds, which were in separate rooms divided by a door so that was a pleasant surprise. Eat breakfast in the morning was delicious and served promptly to order. The area around the hotel is a little older, but not a significant concern all in all we had a great stay!
Fun location . Quiet and comfortable. Great breakfast . Loved the decor!
The historical items
Stayed 1 night. Neat place! Great breakfast included with your stay.
This place is a gem. Authentic period decor, very quiet; we needed two beds and got two bedrooms- very homey. Brewpub and restaurants across the street. Cafe with eggs Benny included in the price. It’s a few km from the new part of town, with all the shops and restaurants but that didn’t affect us. I’d seek this place out if ever in PR again.
Unfortunately, we did not end up staying at Old Courthouse Inn, Powell River. We walked out as soon as my family saw the old, spooky room. Kelly was not there when we decided to leave but I left a note thanking him. It is not what we expected. Sadly, I had already signed the papers for $500 CAD stay. ( too late for refund). I have nothing against him. He can use that money to make the room appealing, with bright light. I would not recommend this place at all. It had its day ( 40 years ago) but it's not even worth including it with Expedia in today's tourism world. The ad photos were taken 8 years ago ( deceiving ad) and only ONE had a review last year. I warn others to be careful. Have a LOOK first before signing the papers!
Antique furnishings through out property Clean comfortable room (#2) We had a private porch outside our room Made to order breakfast included Gem of a place
I love these old hotls. This is aconverted court house. My first. Room was smsll but gine. Comes with hot breakfast st the restaurant in the lower level. Fantastic meal and great service. Caroline was up to the task today serving a full room. Gladly stay hete agsin. Plus, Flo charger on the st. Behind for electric vehicles made our trip even easier.
It was a funky, historic place to visit. Lots of artifacts. Just our style! Breakfast was great and the waitress was excellent.
The historical decor is lovely and our room was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, especially the homemade blackberry jam.
Unique historical hotel!
Well done reno of a historic building. Kelly has worked hard to make it into a uniquely interesting boutique hotel, adding antiques and historic artifacts and art from the local area. The breakfasts, included in the price, are all house made, including the yummy Hollandaise sauce and house made biscuits. The room rates remain affordable. The now closed paper mill does subtract from the otherwise pristine views of the area including the Straight of Georgia. There is an absence of restaurants and cafes in the Old Town but the main part of Powell River is only a 5 minute drive away.
It interested us for the historical nature . An hotel converted from an old courthouse.
Cute, clean. Super nice owners. Made us feel super welcome. Great experience
The Old Courthouse is a unique and special place to stay.
Fun eclectic place! Great room with AC and a king bed
Very charming old inn located in historic part of Powell River, fitted out with artifacts from a century ago. But with modern comfort; the best shower we’ve used. Owner and staff very friendly and accommodating. Disappointed that the cafe was not open for breakfast.
The rooms are boutique and comfortable. I like the complementary breakfast very much, where I know about the history and the story of this hotel.
Very friendly & accommodating staff. Loved being able to order anything off the breakfast menu. Both breakfasts freshly prepared and served with a smile. Charming old hotel with loads of character. Nice & quiet.
Funky hotel! We had a good sleep. Just work on that hot water issue.
Very enjoyable. Historic.
Clean and quiet!👍
Terrible
Gorgeous renovated courthouse, so charming and unique!
Fantastic stay in a museum like setting, with modern amenities. The bed was comfortable, decor excellent, lovely staff. Really nice breakfast from a menu - not the usual hotel buffet!
A Memorable Stay at The Old Courthouse Inn I recently stayed at The Old Courthouse Inn in Powell River and had a wonderful experience. This unique heritage property offers charm, comfort, and a real sense of history—all in a welcoming atmosphere. Highlights of My Stay: Historic Character: The inn is full of personality, with beautiful architectural details and a warm, nostalgic feel that reflects its roots as a 1939 courthouse. Comfortable Room: The room I stayed in was quiet, clean, and thoughtfully decorated—perfect for a relaxing and restful stay. Delicious Breakfast: Breakfast at Edie Rae’s Café was a real treat—fresh, well-prepared, and served in a charming setting. Genuine Hospitality: I had the pleasure of meeting Kelly Belanger, the owner. His warm and friendly approach really made me feel at home and added a personal touch to the visit. Great Location: Situated in the historic Townsite area, it’s an ideal base to explore Powell River’s coastal charm, trails, and local gems like Townsite Brewing. Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a stay with character, comfort, and a personal touch, I highly recommend The Old Courthouse Inn. I truly appreciated the care and attention that went into every part of the experience—and I look forward to returning.
unique
The delicious breakfast (included with the room) in Edie Rae’s was the icing on the cake. A very historical and truly wonderful place to stay in Powell River. We will definitely come back.
Everything was fine except for the checkin. We couldn’t find any staff in the building. Another guest who happened to come out of her room showed us where the key to our room was She called a person who either worked there or was the owner but we never did see this person
Breakfast was very late starting at 9am so we missed it as we had to leave before that time and had some problems with getting our invoice on time
It’s very much like a museum with rooms. Kept its historical importance. Even rooms has old time hospitality. Quite unique. Only disappointment we didn’t encounter any ghost. Owner is very helpful and obliging. Recommended
Very interesting place to stay. Loved it all. The amazing decor, the town around is beautiful. Great price.
Beautiful antiques and wonderful accommodations
The old Courthouse Inn is a nice unique place, with beautiful antique decorations yet very modern facilities. The breakfast was great.
Room was musty smelling, but that can be expected in this area. Room was large, comfy king size bed. Nice mini fridge with separate freezer compartment. The spacious bathroom was clean, had tub with a wonderful rain shower. Location was okay, a few amenities within walking distance, but lots more just a short drive away. There are delicious full breakfast options that are included with your stay and served in the little attached cafe. We had a nice water view. Was raining & late in day when we arrived so didn’t check out much of the neighbour hood.
We loved the quirky character of the hotel and room and we were made very welcome. The breakfast was exceptional.
Loved the decor, comfortable room, and delicious breakfast. We had a great time.
The decor was very unique with a lot of historical artifacts and memorabilia, fascinating! Like stepping back in time! Only downside was we couldn’t figure out how to get any heat in the room. Wonderful inclusive breakfast!
Its an old building with upgrades, mattress needs to be changed. Other than that it was good
Lovely, personal, unique
It was such a lovely place to stay i will 100% do this again
Plenty of historical treasures onsite. Decent restaurant. No complaints.
Interesting history of the hotel and surrounding area
The property is a historic building but needs to be upgraded to meet 2025 standards. It feels shabby. For example, there are barely enough plugs in the bedroom and few are 3-pronged. For the price being charged, kleenex and toilet paper should be soft. We were told the power would be off in the morning and there would be a cold breakfast downstairs. The power did not seem to go off and the breakfast was abysmal. Lots of bread in the fridge but nothing to put on the bread - i.e. no butter, peanut butter or cheese. Coffee could have been brewed and left in a thermos. Nada. We had to hunt for plates and there were no napkins anywhere. In a word - inhospitable.
As name suggests it is old but cozy and vintage style. Loved the decors. Breakfast was great. Loved the Kelly’s Cakes pancakes. Made fresh, crispy and fluffy pancakes! Loved the vibe! Great service! Ample parking too!
I liked the waitress in the restaurant. Workwd her butt off but remained friendly amd cheery. I didnt like others, probably owners or staff, coming in after us, going straight to a window with a view (we had a wall) and being serrved and eating before we even got to order. I liked the brewery across the street.
Fun accommodation experience in a quirky historical hotel!
Loved our clean, cozy room. Breakfast was great!
Nice place to stay. Comfy bed, quiet location
I recently had the opportunity to stay at The Courthouse Inn. I was excited for the unique history and decor. But, unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. When I arrived, I encountered issues, starting with the lack of staff available to assist with check-in. I also felt that the security measures were inadequate as doors to the private rooms were unlocked, opened, and no staff was immediately present. We were also told there would be a complimentary “early risers” breakfast on the first floor. However, when we checked, we found the fridge and cupboards completely empty. When we walked to the hotel’s café, we were informed that they had “run out of food” the previous day. The promise of complimentary “breakfast treats” was a key factor in my decision to choose this hotel, so this was particularly disappointing. Overall, I was left feeling dissatisfied with my stay and would be hesitant to recommend this inn based on my experience.
Good old hotel with neat antiques. Great breakfast especially their jam. We bought 3 jars of the jam. We recommend this place.
For a 2 star hotel, it's good. The ocean view has more of the back alley and the old pulp mill with some ocean. The bed sheets had some stains..great if you're into the antique vibe, we were not so much
It was very noisy with some hotel workers moving things and doing some kind of extended project past 1030. It was difficult to sleep. There is a player piano that was right outside my room and that went off three times up to 1000, again very annoying. No house cleaning and no indication the rooms would not be cleaned
A Fabulous location with outstanding location in Old Town. Excellent breakfast. Great shower. Truly comfortable king size bed with first class bedding and pillows. A friendly comfortable get away. Unique.
Super comfy stay with an amazing breakfast!
Great place to stay! only setback are thin doors. Get to hear hallway conversations etc. For us a minor quibble.
Excellent, historic, friendly and comfortable hotel!
Quaint and comfortable with an intriguing history and lovely staff…we’ll be back!
Lovely inn! The included breakfast was delicious. Everyone was helpful and accommodating. Cute quirky space! Would stay again for sure.
Lots of cool old decor in the rooms and throughout the inn. Very clean, comfortable beds. Great breakfast included in the morning.
Lovely old property to stay in!
Clean room. Accomodating staff. Only negative is that doors slam quite loudly
Super nice quaint place to stay. Owner was super friendly and helpful.
very good historical building. I would visit again if i have time
Boutique Hotel has a lot of wonderful atmosphere. So much history in every room. The owner, Kelly, is very accommodating and the free breakfast is ordered from a guest menu. Something for everyone. Good wifi and full Apple box tv. We will go back here again .
Wonderful experience felt like a historic bed and brekfast food was great
Loved the room and artifacts in the hotel. Great breakfast.
The room was quiet, for the most part. I booked a sea view room but was given a room on the other side with no view and traffic noise. No reason for changing my booked room was given. When I checked in, I was told that I was being given an upgrade but not sure what that was based on. The hot water in the bathroom sink did not work - always cold. Only good thing was the water pressure in the shower. The hotel is in poor condition- looks like no one is doing general upkeep at all. Never saw anyone working in the hotel. Ran out of toilet paper so had to use Kleenex!
We very much enjoyed our stay!!
A very cool old building with lots of history. Loved all of the antiques and the innkeeper was very friendly and helpful.
Fast check in and overview of room. Clean and comfortable and close to restaurants and entertainment.
So, I booked because of the reviews - but it genuinely wasn’t my experience unfortunately. Perhaps I just got a sub standard room. The rooms are small, and nowhere to work (tiny desk that didn’t fit my laptop and uncomfortable chair that didn’t pull out enough because of space). I was in town for business so this mattered. The room was very noisy - people coming and going all night with the exterior doors slamming every time. I stayed 3 nights and this was endless. There’s nowhere to eat food without balancing on the end of the bed. Breakfast was served between 9&1pm - not sure I understood this as everyone had left by the time I did every morning at 8:30. Wind chimes around the outside of the building went crazy with the wind (I know, I know, that’s the point but I mean crazy - we are a couple of blocks from the ocean so wind is, well, expected!). My bed had a row of ‘popped’ springs so I had to sleep sideways! I could go on but I won’t - it’s a cute character building with tons of curios. The Manager was sweet, the parking was great - the coffee in the room was good - access to microwaves and kettles/iron etc in the basement. Not for me but certainly an experience!
Would be nice to have a larger shower, that one was very, very small, just barely enough room for one person
Great location in the Historical Town and right by Townsite Brewery for great craft beer. Bonus excellent breakfast provided in the Inn with a fabulous menu. Highly recommend if visiting.
The coolest place! I loved the journey to Powell River and this was the perfect landing spot. The room was incredible, every detail really special. I love a morning that begins with a nespresso, great shower and warm breakfast made to order. The perfect getaway.
Such a beautiful old hotel! Amazing trinkets and items from the past all around it and full of charm. Super clean and comfortable
Loved the vintage feeling, yummy breakfast, and personal touches. Really appreciated that proprietor walked us to our room, checked that the remotes worked and showed us how to use the tv. Definitely will return.
One of a kind boutique hotel in a historic neighborhood. The owner has gone the extra mile and it shows throughout. Feels like staying in a museum with the modern amenities, great choice if you're into the aesthetic. Breakfast of your choice, which includes Eggs Benny, each morning with your stay is a great personal touch. The only negative, being an old building, are lots of stairs and hearing doors opening, closing and being slammed by other guests during the day. I'm sure the owner could add some felt pads to the door frames to help with the latter. Overall highly recommended.
