Reviewed Aug 16, 2026Another great stay at The Australian Hostel. I’ve stayed here several times, and it’s always a comfortable and welcoming experience. The location in downtown Cairo is perfect, and the atmosphere makes you feel right at home. I especially want to mention Mahmoud. He is incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional, and he always goes out of his way to make sure everything is taken care of. His hospitality really makes a difference. I’ll definitely be coming back again whenever I’m in Cairo. Highly recommended!

Reviewed Aug 10, 2026I’ve stayed at The Australian Hostel many times, and honestly, every time I come to Cairo, this is my first choice. It has become my go-to place in downtown Cairo, and I always feel comfortable and welcomed here. The location is great, the atmosphere is friendly, and the place has everything you need for a comfortable stay. But what really makes this hostel special is the staff. They are genuinely amazing, friendly, helpful, and always ready to make your stay better. A special shout-out to Mahmoud and Seif — both of them are absolutely great and always make me feel at home. And of course, the rest of the team are great as well. After staying here so many times, I can confidently say that The Australian Hostel feels more like a second home whenever I’m in Cairo. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely keep coming back!

The hostel is very clean and well maintained, and I especially loved that the dorm room had its own balcony, such a nice bonus to relax and get some fresh air. A special shoutout to Seif for being so helpful, kind, and welcoming throughout my stay! He really made the experience even better. Would definitely stay here again!

Reviewed May 6, 2026The Australian Hostel is located in such a good place. It's a very nice place to stay at not only for backpackers and the breakfast is also very nice. The staff keeps the place very tidy. I've stayed at lots of hostels all around the world but the approach to all customers was extremely unprecedented from all of them but especially from Seif the guy working at the front desk. He apparently does his best to keep a good reputation of the place also always willing to help with everything even beyond his job duties. This everything made me feel so good and I left Egypt after all the time backpacking so relaxed.
Management of the hostel should keep an eye on lockers in the dorm room most of them are broken and you can’t lock your stuff which makes your stay less comfortable.

Beds have privacy curtains and a balcony in the room. Been here 7 days and counting. Much cheaper than the other upmarket hostels. Pretty happy.

The staff “camps” outside the kitchen area scrolling the social media reels on full volume, it’s right outside your door so it becomes disruptive of guest’s sleep. Specially in the morning when things are quiet. PLEASE invest in cheap headphones for them to use!

I made a mistake while making a reservation, which was completely my fault and they didnt make me problems about it in the slightest. Reviewed Mar 8, 2026Honestly to me, Hazeem made the place. Huge part of the reason I continued coming back. It was really clear to me that he genuinely cared about people and wanted to take care of them. How do I know? He did that for me. (And I could see him do so for others as well)

It was not very clean. It was full of mosquitoes, and the walls of the bed well full of mosquitoes murders - all stained with blood.
