Provider-sourced guest reviews.
visited sugar bay in june 2026 and what an amazing place! the staff were so incredibly friendly, chatty and provided great service, especially keshana! the views are beautiful here, right on the beach and the pool area was lovely (a tad small) but there were plenty of loungers when i came in early june, the swim up bar was great as well! there is a bus stop right outside the hotel where you can get cheap bus tickets into bridgetown! there was an amazing choice of cocktails available on all inclusive so so many! the bartenders were always happy to customise and make their recommendations too which was lovely, food was nice too! a good choice for all meals and the beach bar was nice too! the rooms and all public areas were very clean, and the room was very spacious with a lovely balcony and had good aircon! there were some great singers and bands on of an evening which was lovely, a show as well which was a great watch. couldn’t reccomend this place enough me and my family all loved it!
Entire stay was 10/10. Location, amenities, staff, food and ambience all 5*
We travelled to Barbados as a group of 3 friends to celebrate a special birthday. From the moment we arrived at Sugar Bay we were made to feel welcome and were very well looked after. This is a lovely beach front hotel that has a relaxed atmosphere and non-pretentious. The hotel is in a good location to explore the island - within easy reach of Oistins (fish fry on a Friday is a must try - hotel can arrange transport for you), the museum etc. it is very easy to arrange trips via the concierge. The negatives of the hotel are that it is a little dated and tired in places (inefficient and noisy air conditioner in the room, some missing tiles and grout issues) and in places it could do with a deep clean - mainly the tiling. However I am still giving 5 star because the positives far outweigh the negatives. The food at this hotel is absolutely lovely, plentiful and full of flavour, different choices every day. Hats off to the chefs. The main star of the show at Sugar Bar are the staff. We found all staff to be very helpful, friendly and willing to have a chat and a laugh. They made the whole experience very enjoyable. The Bajan people are very warm and really know how to show you a good time. I have travelled extensively and would say they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The bar staff in particular were brilliant, a big should out to Nicholas, Jesus and Helen. Would recommend this hotel, don’t hesitate to book you will have the best time.
A family run hotel with a Team of staff always exceed your expectations. A perfect setting, beautiful rooms and great value for money. This little Paradise has been created with love and care
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Sugar Bay with our 8-month-old daughter. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would happily return. The highlight has to be the food. It was honestly some of the best we've ever had on holiday, with so much variety and consistently excellent quality. A huge credit to the Food & Beverage Manager, who was incredibly friendly throughout our stay and even gifted our daughter a teddy in a Sugar Bay T-shirt, which was such a thoughtful touch. The service was excellent. Staff remembered our drinks orders, often had our usual table ready in the buffet, and our daughter's highchair would appear without us even asking. Special thanks to Helen, Joan and Jesus, as well as all of the wonderful waiters and waitresses who looked after us so well. The Crèche was another standout. It was spotless and so well run. A special thank you to Kaya, who made us feel completely at ease leaving our daughter, who absolutely adored her. It really allowed us to relax. The beach and pool are beautiful, Umi was outstanding, and our massages with Nakisha at Karma Spa was genuinely one of the best we've ever had. We'd also recommend the excursions organised through the hotel, particularly Pebbles Beach to see the racehorses being bathed (just remember to bring cash if you'd like photos or to interact with the horses). There were a few disappointments. We'd requested a ground-floor room several months before travelling due to having a baby and pram, but this wasn't accommodated, and we were told we'd need to pay for an upgrade. Carrying our sleeping daughter and pram upstairs each evening wasn't ideal and did affect our evenings. Checkout day was also difficult. Our transfer wasn't until late afternoon, but beyond a complimentary one-hour extension, there was little flexibility unless we paid an additional US$150. We understand policies have to be applied fairly, but a little discretion for families with young babies would have been appreciated. Getting a sunbed by the pool could also be challenging, and slightly longer buffet opening hours would make life easier for families with babies. Despite these points, the warmth of the staff, exceptional food, fantastic childcare and beautiful setting made this a holiday we'll remember very fondly. Thank you to everyone who made our first long-haul holiday with our daughter so special - we hope to return.
Where do I start! We were met with warmth and hospitality from the moment we checked in. There was a really friendly armosphere from the moment we arrived. Within two minutes, we were asked if we would like a drink, which we gladly accepted after a long flight. Check-in was seamless. You are issued with a lightweight sensor band, which is worn as part of your all-inclusive package, but it is also used to open the door to your room. Our room was an Ocean Front Family Suite, which was perfect as we have two teenagers who did not want to share a bed. It comprised a separate bedroom and, in the living area, a pull-out sofa bed and another single bed. The suite was very clean and spacious. I suffer with back pain and, although the beds were very comfortable and would not be an issue for the majority of people, I needed mine to be a little softer. When I enquired whether it would be possible to have a mattress topper, I was told, "No problem," and a super-padded topper was on my bed within an hour. Thank you! The view from our room was wonderful, and we all loved sitting on the balcony in the evenings before bed. We enjoyed snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking most days and hired a car to see the sights, including Harrison's Cave, which is a must-visit! If you hire a car, this is very easy to arrange through the hotel and is very reasonably priced too. We ate at the Reef Restaurant most mornings and evenings. I have to say, the buffet selection was brilliant—there was something for everyone and plenty of choice. I can't recall the name of the lady who makes the eggs at breakfast, but they were the best poached eggs I have ever had in my life! Tip: Lose a few pounds before you go to Sugar Bay! Colin's was also a great place to have lunch, and it served the best ice cream. I used the on-site Karma Spa twice—once for a facial and once for a body massage. Both treatments were amazing and reasonably priced, in my opinion. They're well worth treating yourself to! The pool, although shallow, is lovely and has a swim-up bar, but we personally preferred the beach. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to have a toilet closer to the pool, as the nearest one requires you to walk back through the reception area. The sea is beautiful but does have quite a lot of coral in places, so I would recommend bringing swim shoes with you, especially if you plan to snorkel. For every three nights you stay, you can dine at one of the two speciality restaurants, Umi or Sizzle Steakhouse. We tried both during our ten-day stay. Tip: Try the chicken cashew dish at Umi—it's absolutely delicious! They also have an amazing Japanese chef. The arcade and games room were great for the teenagers, and my son enjoyed spending time there with the friends he made during our stay. The entertainmemt was good-some superb singers and dancers. It did not go on too late-which suited us. Finally, I have to mention some members of staff who really made our holiday extra special. Zakobi and Kyle, who work at the watersports centre, are simply wonderful and go out of their way to make sure you have a fantastic time. We miss them already! Thank you also to Jesus, Deangelo, Akiell, and the lovely Nicole, who works in the Sugar Bay gift shop (also well worth a visit). Pedro-one of the managers clearly appreciates his staff. It was lovely to meet him at the manager's cocktail evening. They are all a complete credit to Sugar Bay and should absolutely be recognised by management for their commitment, professionalism, and outstanding customer service. Thank you Sugar Bay-we will be back!
Our medical transplant team stayed at the hotel while working locally and couldn't have asked for a better stay. The staff were superb. They were so attentive and caring, and the rooms and facilites are just lovely. Thank you so much for making everyone so welcome
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The pool area was lovely and the beach was clean …. there were always plenty of loungers available by the beach so it wasn’t stressful trying to get these. The night entertainment was a hit and miss - low key. A special thank you to Helen at the bar, who was always so friendly and welcoming, and Kayshana in the restaurant for her excellent service, and the water sports team who were fantastic throughout our stay. The beach did have quite a bit of sargassum while we were there, although that’s obviously beyond the hotel’s control. Our room was comfortable, but the air conditioning could have been better and the bathroom felt a little dated. As vegetarians, we also found the food options a bit limited. Overall a good stay.
The corporate culture at this place is amazing. All employees are there to make the guest experience the best it can be and they are truly happy to do it. All employees were great but a few to recognize were adjoni at the swim up bar and zakobe at water sports. Amazing place over all
We loved everything but the highlight is the staff, location and food.
There genuinely wasn't anything we disliked and we will certainly return - can't wait!
We have just got back from our 1 week stay at Sugar Bay for our Honeymoon. From the minute we arrived, all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. We received a complimentary upgrade to a sea view room to celebrate our honeymoon which was a lovely gesture from the hotel. The hotel is a very relaxed vibe, which is exactly what we wanted. There wasn't always music playing by the pool, would recommend that its played more as definitely lifts the atmosphere. One thing that always puts me off all inclusive hotels is the buffet food - but Sugar Bay is in a league of its own. Every day there is different choices at the buffet restaurant, a smaller offering than some larger resorts, but the quality of the food is far superior to any other resort I've ever stayed at. Every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner the food was great and we never got bored. The Japanese and Steak restaurant were also great. Great location, round the corner from pebble beach where you can see the race horses being exercised. The beach is lovely and the breakers give shelter from the waves. Bit of seaweed when the weather has been rough but this can't be helped and the staff do a great job of clearing the beach each morning. The hotel is the perfect size- big enough to have an atmosphere but not too big and busy like some of the mega resorts. We didn't struggle to get a bed by the pool each day - we were usually done at breakfast by 8-8.30 and I don't think the hotel was full during our stay which may have helped. There was a sign for not reserving sunbeds, however some guests ignored this and still placed towels/books and didn't come to occupy the beds until a few hours later which is a shame. The rooms are good, not huge but we were only really in there to sleep and shower. Air con could be cooler, we had it set to the lowest setting but the room definitely felt warmer - wasn't enough to make us uncomfortable at any point. The cleaner came in every day and the room was always spotless when we returned with towels refreshed. The staff are amazing - special shout out to Ajani at the pool bar - he has a great personality and we enjoyed chatting to him at the bar when he was working, as well as trying his own cocktails not on the menu (they should be!!) . Also to Jesus & Kay in the restaurant, they were both so lovely and friendly every time we ate. We had such an amazing time, hopefully we will be back but for longer next time as a week just wasn't long enough.
This is a lovely resort with wonderful staff, who truly are amazing and so very kind. My husband was on crutches and they could not do enough for him. I must mention the two ladies at reception who drove us up the hill so we could visit the steak restaurant. Without them we couldn’t have gone. I’m afraid I don’t remember their names so I hope this gets passed on to them. The food here is very good, as are the drinks. The pool is lovely and great if you don’t like deep water. Unfortunately the beach rarely looked like it does in the photos, the sea was rough and dark in colour thanks to the seaweed. We only saw it calm a couple of times during our 10 day stay. And I do think the beds on the beach should have mattresses. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. Overall this is a lovely resort with plenty of staff who cannot do enough for you. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
My wife and have recently returned home from a pleasant stay at Sugar Bay. Upon arrival (around 14:45), we were checked in reasonably quickly, but despite being our documents saying check in was 15:00, we were told that our room wasn't ready and to check back after 16:00. We were told to leave our luggage and head to the bar for a drink whilst we waited. We shown to our room around 17:00 by the friendly porter/Bellhop. Our room, a standard garden view room was large, very clean and had a very comfortable bed, the air conditioning unit whilst effectively cooling our room was very noisy. This turned out to be a blessing as maintenance work appeared to be being carried out in adjacent rooms and buildings (drilling, knocking and banging and a concrete mixer running most days) the noisy AC somewhat reduced the outside noise! Food at the buffet restaurant was very good, breakfast was hot and plentiful, lunches and dinners were varied and always good quality. Staff in the buffet restaurant were friendly and efficient and always said hello. Umi was also very good, a fairly small menu but something that could be enjoyed by most people. We were a little disappointed by Sizzle... The restaurant itself was very hot (despite multiple fans) and I wasn't overly impressed by the steak.... It was ok, but I expected better from a specialist steak restaurant. The temperature plus the disappointing steak meant we only ate here once and skipped dessert to go and cool off! Colin's beach bar served very nice local dishes such as fried fish, spiced chicken and burgers etc staff were very efficient and friendly here! The bars were ok, some staff were engaging, liked to have a laugh and got to know you and your drinks preferences.... Some even invented drinks for you based on what you like! Unfortunately some members of staff were completely uninterested (unless you waved a few dollars in their direction) making ordering drinks difficult on occasions. The draft beer (Banks, Deputy and Carib) was good (I had a preference for Deputy) but other drinks (particularly cocktails or anything containing rum or vodka) appeared very weak, having worked in the hospitality industry for a number of years, a glass containing a third alcohol (as poured) should knock your socks off....they didn't! I can only assume the unlabeled demijohns staff used to fill the Mount Gay bottles at the bar are of a lower ABV due to the hotel being All Inclusive? The Lazy Mongoose was worth a visit, one a couple of occasions they had no draft beer and ran out of cans, but alternatives were readily offered by the staff. Unfortunately despite a recent renovation the dart board was in poor condition and darts pretty much unplayable, but this didn't really detract from the fun! The Pool is quite small and shallow, but offers comfortable loungers if you are lucky enough to snag one! From very early in the morning, residents were "reserving" beds with towels, bags, books etc despite there being notices explicitly asking guests not to. Other rules around use of the pool were also not enforced.... On most days teenagers were causing a nuisance throwing eachother around, younger kids were splashing around the bar area (despite children not being allowed in the pool bar area) and eventually during our stay the entire pool bar appeared to have been taken over by a large group who sat there all day 2 drinks in hand! (I overheard one guest saying it was like being in Benidorm) The beach was generally a lot quieter than the pool area, the sand is a little rough with the odd stone and bits of coral making entry to the sea a little uncomfortable. There was sargassum during our stay, but this tended to be at the Savannah hotel end and didn't really impact most of the beach. We have given a 4 star rating in this review, in reality it's probably a 3.5! We had high hopes for Sugar Bay based upon other reviews, however we had to manage our expectations during the stay. Despite our little niggles as described above we did enjoy our holiday in Barbados, however I don't think we would stay at Sugar Bay should we return to the island.
We had the most amazing stay at this hotel in Barbados. From the moment we arrived, every member of staff made us feel so welcome. The people here are genuinely some of the kindest, warmest, and most helpful people we’ve ever met, and they went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The food was absolutely incredible. Every meal was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented, with plenty of variety to choose from. We looked forward to every breakfast, lunch, and dinner because everything was consistently delicious. The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, and well maintained, creating the perfect place to relax. What truly made this holiday special, though, was the outstanding hospitality. The warmth and friendliness of everyone we met made us feel at home from start to finish. We couldn’t recommend this hotel more highly and will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone for making our trip so memorable!
Location was fantastic! The atmosphere was fantastic as well. The rooms were beautiful. Value was good. It was VERY clean. No noise while we were there just the beautiful sound of nature. The staff was top notch and very sweet. Amenities were perfect. Games, sand toys for kids to play with beach chairs, umbrella, towels, water sport activities: snorkel, paddle board, boogie board with very cool window for kids to see fish without putting head under AND kayaks! This place is NOT big and give a boutique, cozy feel. Really nicely decorated throughout the hotel. Everything is so easy to find and you are not wandering around the first few days trying to figure out where you are as in LARGE hotels. I LOVED the vibe here. Perfect.
We really enjoyed our stay at Sugar Bay. Great and amazing hotel. The whole staff and management are so nice, professional and accommodating. They made our stay wonderful and relaxing. It’s in a great location right on Hastings. The pool and beach area is chill and relaxing. The bartenders at both beach bars and Pool bar made the best drinks!! The buffets at the Reef restaurant were amazing, with lots of menu options. Also loved the lunch menus at the beach restaurant. The whole facility and rooms are always clean. Staff, Food, drinks, beach and pool are spot on.
I stayed at Sugar Bay in June 2026 as soon as arrived at hotel the staff were all friendly and welcoming! There were some staff members who were exceptional, Aaron who works in watersports on the hotel beach, Jesus, Akil, Deangelo, Tristan and damien who work at bar/restaurants! They all provided exceptional service and made our hotel experience amazing! Aaron’s customer service was beyond exceptional, he should be promoted! The food at Colins beach bar and grill was amazing they served high quality authentic bajan food! Also the asian fusion restaurant UMI also offers delicious high quality food! The hotel has a wide range of facilities. I would highly recommend the hotel!
We stayed at Sugar Bay from 14 to 23 June as a family of 4 with adult children. All of us were impressed by the warm welcome, the standard of our two Signature twin rooms, the food, drinks, beach and staff. The surrounding gardens are stunning and well tended. Our rooms were on the first floor (in UK we mean one above ground) and our balconies had a view into a tropical ‘jungle’ in which we spied green monkeys, hummingbirds and a glimpse of a whistling frog. We had emailed ahead and requested non ground floor rooms, separate twin beds and a quiet location, all of which were met. The all inclusive drinks were high quality and the cocktails freshly mixed and strong! There is a good mocktail menu too for non-drinkers. The food was excellent in the buffet and also at Colin’s, Sizzle and Umi. The filet mignon at Sizzle was the best steak I’ve ever tasted. In fact we visited Sizzle twice and on both occasions were served by Tyreke who was professional and great at his job. We ate lunch most days at Colin’s beach bar-this is casual enough that you can roll up in swimwear yet the table service received makes it feel like an occasion. There is a slightly varied menu each day with a special dish of the day. Every lunch we had there was delicious and Samantha coordinates the team efficiently to ensure a smooth service. Another memorable team member was Jesus who has a quiet and gentle nature, with great attention to detail. We spent a lot of time at the beach which is spacious with plenty of sun loungers for everyone. The watersports guys are friendly and helpful in setting up parasols or moving sunbeds. A special shout out to Kyle who is infectiously funny and cheerful! We only visited the pool once but, as other guests have mentioned, the sun loungers get reserved early (with nobody on them) so it’s difficult to get a spot. We had fun in the games room where you can play pool, table football and arcade games in air conditioning. We used the gym too which was fine for our needs. The Lazy Mongoose is a nice idea and we visited on a couple of evenings to play darts and enjoy a drink in a traditional pub. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend Sugar Bay for a memorable and relaxed holiday. The thoughtful details combined with good quality food and drink, plus a dedicated team of staff makes this place a perfect choice.
Two couples came here to celebrate our 40th birthdays, and we honestly couldn’t have picked a better place. We had a fantastic holiday from start to finish. This isn’t a flashy, ultra-luxury resort, but that’s part of its charm. It feels authentic, relaxed and genuinely welcoming, while still offering a high standard throughout. The food deserves a special mention. The buffet was quite simply the best all-inclusive buffet we’ve ever experienced, with plenty of choice and consistently excellent quality. Both à la carte restaurants were also superb, particularly Sizzle, which we visited twice during our stay. The staff were wonderful. Akeel on the beach and Seth at the bar were always friendly, attentive and a real credit to the hotel. The reception team were also great and helped us arrange taxis and excursions without any fuss. We stayed in a basic Signature Room, which was more than adequate for our needs. It was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The air conditioning worked well overnight and kept the room cool enough for a good night’s sleep. If I was being picky, the only things I’d suggest are: • Mattresses on the beach sunbeds would make lounging by the sea even more comfortable. • A few more bins around the resort would be useful. Guests could clear away cups and rubbish more easily, and there didn’t seem to be regular collection of empty glasses in some areas. That said, neither of these points had any impact on our stay. We left feeling relaxed, well looked after and already talking about coming back. For anyone looking for a quality all-inclusive with great food, lovely staff and a more authentic feel, we’d highly recommend it. Top tip - join the steel pan lessons on a Monday morning. There is a small charge but it’s worth it. Ask at reception.
This resort is nothing short of amazing. From the staff to the food in every restaurant. We loved it.
We stayed at Sugar Bay from May 9 to the 15th. We liked Sugar Bay so much last year we came back again. For context, my wife and I are in our early 60’s and this time our grown daughter joined us. We stayed in a family suite overlooking the pool. The family suite was just right with the bedroom having it’s own AC and TV and the main room with pull-out bed had it’s own AC and TV. The small fridge was initially stocked with water, but we had to request new bottles from reception - no pop or beer. There was adequate storage for clothes. Room cleaning was completed nicely every day. The food was excellent. • At the Reef buffet restaurant, the staff were efficient at seating us and getting us water & drinks, the dishes at the buffet were well maintained – plenty of great tasting meat, fish, vegetables, desserts, and different every day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all great at the Reef buffet. • The evening supper at specialty restaurants Sizzle and Umi were excellent; they were more dining experiences – a slower pace, food presented nicely, and great service. • Collins beach restaurant was also great and convenient. The beach was nice. The watersport service team does a great job organizing the chairs and setting up the umbrellas with a smile and a quick chat. The beach is protected with a manmade rock barrier but this year we noticed a slight current flowing through the protected area. Snorkeling out by the rocks was ‘OK’ – hundreds of fish but not a great variety. If you like to walk, Sugar Bay is a great starting point. To the left, after a short 5-minute walk, you’re on the boardwalk and can walk all the way down to Rockley beach – 60 minutes return. To the right, after a short walk on the road (be careful), it’s a nice walk down to Pebbles beach – 90 minutes return. Sam the Man" approached us on the beach at Sugar Bay. My wife and I and daughter took him up on the offer of a private tour for the next day. He provides a fantastic tour around the outside of the island. He is easy going and very flexible and provides drinks - beer, pop, rum. Stop where you want and stay at the stops for as long as you want - no rush. Great way to see the island with Sam. He knows his way around as well as all the background info. He is well known in Barbados. Would recommend his services if you are up for an island tour - thanks very much Sam! In summary, we like Sugar Bay because it’s ‘comfortable’. The resort is fairly small, the food is fantastic, the service is quick, staff are polite, the resort is clean and it’s just a carefree week of relaxing.
Great relaxing holiday in Sugar Bay. Nice comfortable rooms, lovely food and great service from all the staff. We have visited previously and returned for a special family celebration. The service from the staff is so friendly and the quality of food is first class.
We stayed at Sugar Bay for two weeks in June with high expectations, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. The beach was a major let-down. It is quite small, the sea can be rough, and there was a significant amount of seaweed throughout our stay. In two weeks, there were only a couple of occasions when we could enter the sea without having to make our way through large amounts of brown seaweed. The hotel itself is looking tired and in need of refurbishment, with numerous repairs required throughout the property. The gym facilities were particularly disappointing. Of the two treadmills available, only one was working, despite reporting the issue to reception on the second day of our holiday and raising it several times afterwards. Other gym equipment was also out of order and remained unrepaired during our stay. The air conditioning in our room was another issue. It was noisy, only partially effective, and failed to cool the room properly for the entire two weeks. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel. I would also advise potential guests to read a wide range of reviews on TripAdvisor and other independent review sites before booking. If visiting Barbados again, I would choose a hotel on the west coast, where the sea is generally calmer and seaweed is much less of an issue.
Most of the reviews on here are accurate, especially the positive ones, it’s difficult to fault the resort in any way. All the staff in every department are friendly, courteous and professional in their duties. They all go about the work with a smile on their face with an upbeat attitude. We stayed here for the second time for 10 days, the first time was part of a cruise and stay 7 years and they kept our records and welcomed us back with an identifying room bracelet, different colour strap that gets a a conversation going with our guests. Some guest we found out had been here 14 times of more so that speaks volumes about the place. The buffet food is well balanced, the two signature restaurants are quality but you only have access to each one once for a 7 day stay. Would I recommend this resort, absolutely! book it if it’s one of your considerations.
Our 4th time at Sugarbay and the resort has maintained its high standards in terms of the hotel its upkeep and the friendly staff that made our 10 night stay memorable. We stayed in ground floor oceanfront signature rooms that were perfect where we could walk straight out to the path and beach. Main buffet restaurant was of consistently high quality as were both signature restaurants. Collins beach bar and snack restaurant is fabulous for lunch as it is a short step away from the beach. The bar area has been expanded since our last stay and has improved the layout for the buffet restaurant although I have to say I preferred the feel of the old square openair bar that was situated within the building. Staff were all fantastic, helpful and forever smiling which made the service and ambience special. Looking forward to returning sometime in the near future for a fifth time ! Only criticsm, we couldn't get near the pool loungers as there is the all to common Brit bed blocking with towels from dawn to dusk that happens at many resorts. We gave up but had more than enough fun on the beautiful beach that serves the ocean lagoon .
Firstly a huge apology to the team at Sugar Bay for the delay in writing this review, you work too hard not to have it sooner. To people looking to stay here, if you do, kick back and relax but when you pack remember to pack your manners and respect, they add nothing to your luggage allowance and costs nothing. You work hard to be able to come here and the team work just as hard making your stay the best it can be – don’t be a Leonard.... The team, from management to the gentleman that keeps the beach tidy are great. Huge thanks go to the team that run the Reef Bar, Akheem, Joan, Helen, Damien and Krishion, thank you for keeping us hydrated hic lol. To Kyle C and the team on the beach, thank you for providing us with shade. Right now to the actual review.... On arrival you are welcomed with a drink of your choice. Reception team are great and full of information. Rooms. Are they dated? Well the bathroom was a little out of date but you’re not there for the decor. The showers are amazing and the beds are sooooooo comfortable. The team that clean the rooms are good at what they do. Never a problem with towels and the rooms are always well stocked. Would have preferred to have closed in wardrobes and a few more drawers for clothes but I’m just being picky. Certainly wouldn’t stop me staying again. Had issue with toilet, quick call to reception and within minutes maintenance were there and sorted, safe battery needed changing, again sorted in no time at all. Hairdryer stopped working and it was replaced with a new one still in the box like it had just come from the shop. Good time to point out the hairdryers are not the usual useless ones you normally find in hotel bathrooms they are salon quality and can be used outside of the bathrooms as well. Restaurants. There are a few on site but to be honest the main restaurant was so good we never thought to try the others out. The staff here are excellent, food plentiful and fresh and if you are gluten intolerant you won’t starve at Sugar Bay as they have a brilliant selection of food and cakes, you wouldn’t know they were gluten free if there wasn’t a sigh telling you. Good selection of food but would be nice to have more local breakfast items, mainly catered to English and American but I understand why. Beach Is there seaweed, err of course there is, it’s a beach. They do their best to keep it clear but it’s not a problem. Seaweed is natural and it didn't bite, and when you’re in the sea you’re in its world you don’t go to the park and moan about there being grass. There was also no smell from the seaweed on the beach. The guys that look after you on the beach are fastastic, big thanks to Kyle C and the team. Attentive, friendly and professional. We had a parasol fall over, due to the wind and nothing to do with them, and they were instantly there making sure everything was OK. The team at the Reef Bar are second to none, again to those named at the top and apologies to those I may have missed out, again I thank you. Grounds Always kept clean and tidy, they are constantly working to make it so. Never saw any bugs. Didn’t use the pool, not when the beach and the team there were so good so can’t comment on that but like, on the beach, never seemed an issue with there not being enough sunbeds. Towels always plentiful for pool and beach. Entertainment Always good entertainment and didn’t finish too late so those with children or wanting an early night were not disturbed. There is a shop on site which is convenient but don’t let that stop you going out of the hotel and getting the reggae bus, so much fun. Had reason to email the general manager on our return as he wasn’t available before we left. Morgan you are a star, email was responded to within minutes of it being sent and issue raised was addressed. Must stress this was not an issue with the resort or the team as I can’t praise them enough. The resort is not huge, it is small and intimate oh and fantastic, but would have been nice to have a little map or information on what was there. If you’ve managed to stay awake to the end of this review then I thank you and if you ask me would I stay there again.... Without hesitation, it would be my go to resort. Great for families as well. To whoever at Sugar Bay reads the reviews, can I ask you kindly to pass on my huge thanks to the team, those named and others. They may not read the reviews and I would like them to know their hospitality is truly appreciated. I will be back..... Have no doubt... Enjoy
Best family vacation to date - we travelled with our two young daughters (1 & 3 years old) the 1st week of June. Beach: 10/10 - the water is beautiful and has a shallow entrance which was a great spot for my daughters to swim and play in. Due to the man made rocks, it helped break down the waves, so we had no issues hanging out and playing with sand toys at the shore line. It was always easy to find beach chairs, and the men from the sports hut easily set up umbrellas for us. Food: 10/10 - this is the best all inclusive food we've had. The Reef buffet is small however that was the beauty of it - no need to walk around and be indecisive with what to eat. All the food they had (esp. the local Bajan good ) was sooooo good. We all still think about the food. We also enjoyed Collin's for lunch - once again great options/specials daily. Room - 10/10: We stayed in the family ocean suite and it was spacious and accommodated our family of 4. They also provided a wonderful crib, toddler bath tub, diaper pails. Kids Club - Kaiya and Keisha were amazing - our little ones still recall their names and wonder how they're doing. My 3 year old was able to make bracelets (which she loves to wear), do arts and crafts, play in their outdoor park. Overall it was a nice change in our day to visit the Kids Club in the evening time before dinner. Staff - 10/10, everyone we encountered were friendly and welcoming. Happy to always help us and say hello to our daughters. We will definitely be coming back here again - I hope this helps for other families as I relied on other guests' reviews and it really helped plan my trip. See you again Sugar Bay!
Sugar Bay is a fantastic resort in a great location, the beach is great and the sea weed isn't a problem because of the man made breakers, the food is great and the staff are very helpful, there are only a couple of issues that need to be addressed, every morning at the pool guests leave towels reserving beds for the day and you cant get a bed, there is a sign posted that says towels and hats aren't a reservation but they don't enforce it at all, also there are glasses all around the pool all day and its not cleaned up.
We had a great time at Sugar Bay for 9 nights. Food really is excellent at all times, we really enjoyed the variety also. Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious with good air conditioning. The grounds were really nice, pleasant atmosphere, lovely views and friendly helpful staff. We particularly loved the beach and pool bars and variety of cocktails to relax with. Hired a car for a couple of days to explore the island which the concierge sorted for us with ease. A lovely stay and highly recommended
This was our first time in Barbados and Sugar Bay did not disappoint!! Lovely hotel, friendly staff and excellent food. It is situated on its own private beach where loungers were always available. The pool was warm, clean and inviting especially the swim up bar. The nightly entertainment was great. We would highly recommend a stay here at this hotel - certainly gets 10/10 from us!
The resort was excellent, The staff went out of there way to make you feel comfortable. The food and the entertainment was great too. I would highly recommend come and visit because you wont be disappointed.
My grandson and I just returned from a weeklong stay at Sugar Bay - it was a fabulous week; so much so, that we extended our stay by a night. The hotel graciously and efficiently accommodated out request for an extra night. I can honestly say Sugar Bay is now at the top of our list for island stays with children. . . I appreciated the smaller footprint of the property, and the authentic island feel. The property is beautiful, centrally located, Quiet and well maintained; the staff friendly and competent. A few personal mentions (in stark contrast to some negative comments I read on TA): Firstly, the water sports team rocks! They hustled all day. . . . early morning raking the sand and organizing chairs. . . . promptly putting up umbrellas with a smile, swapping out towels, etc. They were cheerful and courteous, ALWAYS. Secondly, the food was amazing. The buffet spread at Reef restaurant provided great variety . . . something for everyone. The chefs here do a topnotch job! The carving / saute' stations always offering up something delectable . . . . all the food stations on the buffet were fresh and impeccably kept, staff regularly checking that quantity was sufficient. The waitstaff was attentive in clearing our empty plates and checking on drinks. I highly recommend Sugar Bay Resort and certainly plan to return.
We went to Sugar Bay last April to meet up with some long time Barbados Buddies from Canada. We have been travelling to Barbados since 1992 and this was our 37th visit to Barbados but our first time staying at Sugar Bay. We had a great 10 nights because everyone we encountered whether it was the staff or the other guests we became part of the furniture, very quickly. We have booked a return trip see you April 2027🇨🇦✈️🇧🇧☀️🍹🍍
We absolutely loved our stay at Sugar Bay Resort! From the moment we arrived until the day we left, the service was exceptional. A huge shout out to Akiel, who truly went above and beyond our entire trip. He remembered our names, our favorite drinks, and always made sure we were taken care of. His attention to detail and genuine kindness made us feel like VIPs every day. Every person we encountered was as nice as the next. We've visited many Caribbean destinations, and Sugar Bay stands out as a place we'll return to again and again because the people are simply amazing. The outstanding service started at reception, where Keisha greeted us with rum punch and a warm smile, while Ashan made check-in a breeze. Nikita provided amazing room service, and we'd also like to recognize Krishon and Shaquan for their friendliness, professionalism, and outstanding hospitality throughout our stay. The resort itself is beautiful, the food was great, the beach is stunning, and the entire staff made us feel welcome from start to finish. Thank you, Sugar Bay, for an unforgettable vacation. We can't wait to come back!
Absolutely amazing beautiful hotel and beautiful people. Perfect!!! Ocean front deluxe room was lovely. Every aspect of the hotel is designed to make everything easy. Pure relaxation. The staff are the most amazing bunch of wonderful human beings who are so happy, helpful and welcoming. They are an absolute credit to the owners. Their hard work and beautiful personalities make Sugar Bay and our holiday perfect. Been to many Caribbean countries/hotels and this is the best bu far! Don't change a thing! Definitely will be back. Big mention to Gerard, Romario, Jesus, Natalie. Each and everyone of you are so lovely. Thank you 😊
Resort service was 100% on point. Every staff member we encountered went out of their way to accommodate us and make our stay enjoyable. One thing to note: this is a family-friendly resort, which we didn’t realize when we booked. That said, the beach was very quiet (most kids were in pool area which we didn’t not frequent), relaxing, and never felt overcrowded. The resort offered daily entertainment, including live singers and a fantastic fire show on Thursday night. The food exceeded expectations. The buffet was consistently excellent, and we enjoyed both specialty restaurants. Umi was a great experience, and the steakhouse served our favorite meal of the trip. The only downside was that we were limited to one reservation per specialty restaurant during our 8-night stay. There is also a casual fast-food/bar-style restaurant open for lunch, as well as a coffee hour from 5–6 PM. Overall, highly recommended for families and those that don’t mind kids around.
Me and my partner absolutely loved this hotel, everyone way so lovely, Shaquan was so helpful, professional and brought an amazing vibe to the bar (his cocktails are incredible). Also would love to give a special shout out to the men who worked in the water sports department. Daniel, Shamari and Antonio made our holiday so memorable, not only are they hard workers but they are so positive, fun and kind. We will miss all of their happy spirit and can’t wait to come back again❤️
Sugar Bay is an amazing hotel. The atmosphere is relaxed but totally professional. Rooms are spacious and clean. Daily room service. The food is fantastic. I defy anyone who says they couldn't find anything they liked. Right from the Reef, Colins Bar to the specialised restaurants. Location is good for traveling outside the hotel. Walking on the pavements needs care just be aware. Beach is beautiful. Sea can be choppy and it's stoney when entering. My advice would be to wear swim shoes. Sugar Bay would always be my choice.
100 out 100 the staff was very nice rooms were cleaned everyday
Amazing beach 🏖️ , food and staff
I recently stayed at Sugar Bay Barbados and had such an amazing experience! Staff is incredible and Shamari made it memorable! If I could leave 10 stars, I honestly would. He truly made the difference during our stay and is the definition of hospitality. From day one he was friendly, attentive, and always willing to help with anything we needed. He took us out on the kayak, made sure we had a beach umbrella and table set up every day, and often checked in to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. It’s rare to come across someone who genuinely cares about guests having a great experience, but Shamari went above and beyond every single day. His positive attitude and professionalism did not go unnoticed! Thank you again, Shamari, for making our vacation so special. Sugar Bay is lucky to have you!
Literally cannot fault this hotel at all. Everything from the staff to the food to the beach area are amazing. Special shout out to Shaquan who has been amazing serving us drinks and having a nice chat with. Also you don’t need to reserve sun beds by the pool as if the sun bed has a white towel rolled up on it its available not taken as I think a lot of people who have written reviews think ( we did ask ). 100 percent will be returning next year AMAZING
This was our second visit to Sugar Bay and it didn’t disappoint. The staff are so friendly and helpful they really do make the stay perfect. Damien at the bar was always on hand to serve drinks and chat. The food was great, Umi and Sizzle dining experiences were included and were really enjoyable. The location of this hotel means you can walk to see the racehorses on Pebble Beach and it’s a slightly further stroll onto the beautiful Carlisle Bay.
Great stay at Sugar Bay. Never been before. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had one issue with a meal from the Sizzle Steakhouse, but it was sorted out very quickly. The buffet food and the food at Colins was superb. I wouldn't hesitate returning.
staff and location
very clean
Location, food, staff and atmosphere
There could be more closet space in the rooms.
My husband and I have just returned from our honeymoon, which incorporated a week stay at Sugar Bay. We arrived at the hotel early afternoon, greeted by warm, friendly staff and a lovely rum punch. Although our room wasn’t ready until 4pm, we were given wristbands that allowed us to use the facilities/all inclusive package from the get go. Prior to our visit, we informed the hotel that it was our honeymoon, and were greeted with a bottle of wine in our room, as well as the champagne and chocolates that my husband had arranged for us, both of which were lovely touches. We had also prearranged with the hotel for a round of golf at Barbados Golf Club. The process was seamless - the hotel handled everything including transfers and undertaking the booking on our behalf. We had a room overlooking the gardens near the bandstand, which was lovely. The room and bathroom were spacious, with a good sized balcony. The facilities in the bedroom were good, I.e. fridge, air conditioning, a safe, hairdryer, mosquito repeller, and plenty of towels in the bathroom etc. The only slight nit picks are that there were only 2 plug sockets, so more would have been better. Also, the wardrobe was very small and didn’t have much room for dresses or trousers. When walking past other rooms near reception/toilets that were open due to the rooms getting cleaned, they had a lot more wardrobe space - not sure if this is to do with room type/upgrades, but to us, wardrobe space should be the same regardless of upgrade status. The resort was maintained and cleaned to a high standard, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff - all staff were friendly and welcoming. The beach and pool were amazing! The comfy sunbeds around the pool get reserved early (circa 6-7am), but this was fine for us as early risers. The evening entertainment was generally low key, with singers on each night, which was welcomed after our hectic week cruising the week prior. The Caribbean show night was also fantastic. On one of the days, the hotel hosted steel pan drum lessons, which we took part in and it was brilliant! The food at the Reef buffet and Colin’s Rum Shack was delicious - always hot and a great variety to choose from. We also enjoyed refreshing drinks from the various bars available at the hotel. Included within the stay is a visit to the UMI Asian restaurant and a visit to Sizzle steakhouse both of which are on-site. We ate at UMI first and it was delicious! We ate at Sizzle on our second to last night. Although the starters were fantastic, the main course was a different story. My filet steak was very tough to cut, which was disappointing. Towards the end of the course, my husband found a thick, long wire in his side dish of mac ‘n’ cheese - luckily he saw it on his fork, as it could have resulted in a trip to the dentist or hospital if he had put it in his mouth! We made the restaurant staff aware immediately, and we left the restaurant before dessert as we had been put off. We notified reception of the incident, who had already been made aware of the situation by the restaurant manager. We asked if we could have another reservation in the UMI restaurant on our last night given that we really enjoyed it there, and within 10/15 minutes of the incident first occurring, our reservation had been made, so we really appreciate how the situation was dealt with. Given the incident in Sizzle steakhouse was rectified immediately, it didn’t overshadow our stay. We overall had a fantastic time at the hotel and will definitely return in the future!
We stayed at Sugar Bay Resort in Barbados for a friend’s wedding, and honestly, it was one of the most amazing trips we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome! Every single person we met was kind, friendly, and genuinely warm. A special mention has to go to Z, who took us on a UNESCO World Heritage site tour. He was incredibly knowledgeable, full of fascinating insights about the island’s history, and such great fun to be around, it ended up being one of the highlights of our stay. The food was absolutely fabulous throughout, so much choice and everything beautifully prepared. The bar staff were just perfect too: attentive, friendly, and always ready with a smile (and a great cocktail!). Beyond the resort itself, what really made the trip unforgettable was the spirit of Barbados. The Bajan people are some of the loveliest we’ve ever met and so welcoming and proud of their island. Learning about the rich history and culture made us appreciate the island even more. The wedding itself was stunning, made even more special by the incredible setting and the wonderful team at Sugar Bay who made everything run so smoothly. We left with the best memories and a real love for Barbados. We truly hope to return one day. Thank you for such a special experience.
A very well maintained hotel with friendly competent staff who made you feel wanted and not a nuisance. The food in general was very good with a wide selection. The hotel was well maintained and kept very clean. The staff were well trained, friendly and competent and made you feel welcome. The beach area was well kept although the sea was a little rougher than we expected.
This was our 2nd visit to Sugar Bay, the 1st time being in 2019. We were really happy to have a room with a Pool View, it was very spacious with a good sized Bathroom. We noticed that the Bar had been moved nearer the beach to create a larger entertainment area during the evenings. During our stay we were able to attend the horse race meeting, with the hotel providing transport and use of the Sponsor’s Box including drinks and food. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon. We enjoyed eating at all 3 restaurants ( Buffet and 2 speciality). The food was very varied, lots of choice and all of a high standard. The choice of drinks was excellent, beer, wines, cocktails, and of course Mount Gay Rum! The staff were amazing, worked really hard, especially in the restaurants and bars which were very busy at times. The level of customer service was amazing, everyone was helpful and always smiled and engaged with us We could mention so many staff, but in particular want to give a big shout out for Yeshandae, Kay and of course the Egg Lady at Breakfast! We look forward to our next visit.
Repeat guest to this hotel! If you want to have a relaxing time in a lovely environment with the best staff looking after you, this is the place to go. I look forward to returning every time! The hotel is well managed and staff so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I have been lucky enough to return here year after year and it gets better every time! This time we had an ocean family suite room again which has excellent views over the beach, and is a spacious well laid out room with separate bedroom. Mini bar was stocked with soft drinks daily at our request. Staff - from those who greeted us on arrival through to the manager could not do enough for us. It would be unfair to name anyone in particular but so nice to see staff again we have got to know over the years! There are a number of restaurants providing different options. I can recommend UMI and would say it’s in my top 3 of my favourite restaurants ever. The executive chef at the hotel is approachable and nothing is too much trouble if you want something not available. He is a great character! This hotel has evening entertainment but what is nice is this finishes at 2200 each evening. Those who want to carry on can move to the lazy mongoose bar on site for a few more hours but it means those who wish to have a quiet time from then are able to do so. I get it that’s not for everyone but it is something I think the hotel has got this spot on! Can’t wait to return again in a few months! Thanks Morgan, you should be so proud of what you and your team have produced and we can all enjoy!
Friendly staff, pretty location, relaxed vibe. Great bars and the beach restaurant Colin’s was terrific as was Blush cafe. What detracts from a 5 star experience: - the live music when dining at the Japanese restaurant was very loud and intrusive - early morning rush to reserve beach chairs. The beach is big enough and there are enough chairs, however this practice is tolerated which is a shame - ill mannered buffet pirates filling large ziplocks with food. Really? Embarrassing.
Visited sugarbay in a day pass to visit family to celebrate a 65 birthday. Let me start by saying it embraces the island culture. It's a nice intimate sized hotel with friendly staff at every turn. My family and I arrived on a day pass and was immediately checked into the resort so we could began our day with the rest of my family we were meeting there. This was one of the most exciting times we have had as a family. We ate lunch on the beach (very good), had drinks at the main beach bar and then enjoyed every aspect of the sugar bay beach. The beach is beautiful here, sand, water, plenty of beds, it was wonderful. We had dinner reservations at a restaurant on the island which my bro and I were surprised to be included on the birthday dinner as well. The staff was amazing, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was on point. We later returned to sugar bay to chill with our family in their very large room for a while. It was the perfect getaway. Lastly our driver took us to the most on point place on the island, there were late night bars, dancing food trucks, everywhere you turned there was excellence Our trip to Barbados turned into one of my most favorite places and I truly enjoyed my time on the island. I'm crazy about Mexico's beaches, it's my second home, I also love the Dominican Republic, but I can honestly say Barbados has definitely hit my top three places to visit. I will be going back..
Everything. Wonderful food, lovely room and great staff.
The staff were all helpful and friendly. The good was excellent. The facilities were great.
We spent a week at this lovely hotel and would definitely stay again! Staff were exceptional- nothing too much trouble, always smiling. Food was lovely, all inclusive buffet had a great choice. The beach was super, we had rough seas and it was quite windy while we were there, but as the beach is sheltered we were still able to swim every day unlike a lot of the hotels/beaches. We had a standard room which was very nice and clean. Evening entertainment was great, quality singers. Couldn’t fault the hotel, loved it 🥰
We stayed at Sugar Bay for 8 days as part of our honeymoon in November. We had a signature room overlooking the gardens (in reality it was overlooking the driveway). The room itself was spacious and nicely decorated with a large balcony. The air conditioning was poor and it had to be left on all day so it was cool enough to sleep in the evening. More up to date air conditioning units would save them a fortune in energy! The location of the hotel is great, on a stunning beach just outside Bridgetown. The beach was very clean with plenty of sun loungers if you were down there before 8am. After that and it was a struggle. There wasn’t enough umbrellas to go around whilst we were there and the guys from the beach hut seem to have their favourite customers. The pool, probably lovely but not a chance to get a bed after 7am so we never spent any time at the pool. Food and drink - this is where Sugar Bay stands out head and shoulders above its competitors. The all inclusive food and drink offering is exceptional. The buffet restaurant had something for everyone and plenty of fish and seafood options which I loved. We also ate at Sizzle and Umi and again the food was lovely. Colin’s bar is great for lunch if you fancy a change from the buffet restaurant. All outlets offered fresh, outstanding food. We loved the cocktail options available and the mud slides were something else! The staff - our experience was somewhat mixed. Most people were genuinely lovely and took the time out of their day to greet you warmly and have a chat. We found all the restaurant staff to be particularly friendly. Some of the bar tenders could be quite grumpy and brusque and others absolutely lovely. There seemed to be some favouritism to returning guests as with the guys from the beach hut. I feel all customers should be treated equally and perhaps they would turn into returning customers. Overall we loved our time at Sugar Bay, but would not return as we would like to go self catering next time in Barbados to get out and about a bit more.
Excellent hotel clean ,rooms spot on , good value flor price
Great hotel Good food Great beach Excellent entertainment
Just a great hotel in Barbados. Amazing staff, sorry should be AMAZING STAFF Very safe for swimming with a reef calming the sea. Lovely beach Good food and entertainment
We enjoyed our 5 night stay here. Upon check in, we received an upgrade from a garden to an ocean view room. Room was ok but had a spilt bathroom. The view from the balcony was great though. Food was good. We had one speciality restaurant included and purchased another. Both restaurants were excellent. one huge downside was the usual sun bed wars. If you weren't up by 6am, there was no room left at the pool. The resort should really monitor this.
We wanted to be closer to the airport and town and chose this neighborhood on purpose, as it was central but still with beach access. All inclusive is good to have but food was disappointing. The beach was nice.
Food was pretty disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Overall to me the hotel as a whole felt borderline 3 star rather than 4 star. It was very expensive for that reason but maybe because we booked last minute- thought it’d be the opposite though. Staff wasn’t the kindest and can be short.
My wife and I made our third visit to Sugar Bay; the last time was just as Covid was setting in, and the hotel closed for a while. It was nice to be coming back again and to find that quite a few changes had been made to the hotel. Our room, which was not in the main building (Room 351), was excellent. Very bright and colourful and spotlessly clean (A massive thank you to Kim, the room cleaner, who kept everything pristine and fresh). Always a pleasure to return to each day. The dining area had been renovated and was a much brighter place from our last visit, and the bar had now been situated outside the dining area and was on the beach. Bar staff are always happy and cheerful, and certainly know how to mix a good drink (best Dark and Stormy I have had for a very long time)!! The Dining Room staff are really the "Engine Room" of the hotel. Their courtesy and big smiles every day, their attention to detail and their fast service made going for meals a pleasure. They are a big part of the hotel, and we thank them for their kindness. It's not always easy to remember names and areas where staff work, so forgive me if I have got any wrong. A massive shout to Angela- coping with the long line of guests coming for her fantastic omelettes and poached eggs, always served with a big laugh and smile. In the Dining Room, the excellent crew of Lashonda, Yashande (with the big smile), Kim, Cherese, Sharia, Shamara and Kelly Ann. Not forgetting "Captain Pablo" who always called me "Mr Michael". Regarding the food. On the whole, there was something for everyone each day, sometimes a little repetitive, but on the whole, it was well presented. The visit to Sizzle Steak House was excellent. A very professional team serving amazing steaks -a visit there is a must. The Reception staff were always on hand and provided excellent service; they were so helpful, together with the porters who helped with suitcases. Finally, we must mention Morris, who took care of the pool area. Another unsung hero, who was so diligent in making sure the pool was safe and that everyone around the pool was looked after. Always on the go throughout the day and always with a big smile. A big thank you. It was a great holiday and a pleasure to return to Sugar Bay
This was our second visit to Sugar Bay. Our overall experience was very good. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and I wouldn't want to pick any individual out as they were all excellent. The food in the Reef buffet restaurant is excellent. I am disabled and have difficulty managing steps so was unable to visit the Umi, Sizzle Steak House or Mongoose pub as all are up steep staircases. However we didn't feel we missed anything as the food in the buffet was good quality and plentiful. The manager did offer to have meals from the Umi brought down to us but we were happy without. The hotel and beach were kept very clean and the garden areas were well kept. On the beach the watersports team bring a parasol to you around 9am. If you need to get beach chairs close to the beach access as I did because I struggle walking on sand then you need to claim a chair by 8am. The downside of the hotel is that there needs to be more thought given to disabled access. The maintenance staff had to modify the bathroom door so that I could get in with my wheelchair. Also there needs to be a few more ramps for wheelchairs installed to overcome some of the low level steps around the restaurant and bar areas. It would be good to allocate a couple of the wooden platforms on the beach for disabled use and construct ramps from the path to Colins bar onto these as wheelchairs can't travel on the sand.
Be aware of Roger Pretends to be a chiropractor He will try to rip you off
2nd visit to Sugar Bay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food is excellent, wide variety and Andrea (Omelette lady) makes just the best omelettes. Very relaxed environment, nothing is a bother to the staff team. Bar staff fantastic as well as all other teams. Lovely friendly resort, lets hope we can return again soon.
Sehr angenehme Strandanlage.
This is our third visit... and it just gets better! We chose to simply sit on the beach every day, as we needed a rest, but there is so much to do. The staff are outstanding - from Pedro steering the team, through to the likes of Kay, Damien and Kyle (and plenty more besides). The food is world class - both the buffet and the specialist restaurants. Sadly I managed to put a stone in weight on, just because there was so much to try and taste! The alcohol is free-flowing and always served with a smile. Rooms are exceptional - and we would recommend going the extra mile and getting an Ocean Front Room. The beach is fantastic for lazing, and the sea very safe to swim, with lots to see. We didn't use the pool, but it looked great. A truly memorable experience and we cannot wait to come back again
This is our fourth visit to Sugar Bay, this time we took our family to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. As usual we had a great time very relaxing holiday. Hotel and staff are great only complaint like most hotels you are unable to get a bed by the pool due to people putting towels on them from 6 am and leaving them empty for hours.
Vastly overpriced for mediocre service, average food, plastic cups, no mini bar , no pool service, minimal housekeeping, felt 2/3 star at best
Best choice we made was coming here. Arrived around 3 pm although room not available till 4. Comfy chairs and a rum punch soon eased that irritation! I had asked for quiet room which was duly delivered as room on floor 3 overlooking ocean. Gorgeous sea view as described. Only sound of a night were the tree frogs ( yes sic)whistling and one evening a couple of green monkeys having a row in the car park! Where else could you get that experience? Room beautiful and a huge bed. Shower in bathroom excellent with various attachments. Well kept every day by housekeeping. Reef restaurant served a very good buffet style meal 3 times a day. A shoutout to the Egg Station team who were awesome. Excellent omelettes and poached eggs. Plenty of choice every meal despite other reviews. Chicken served so many different ways, my favourite was Rum & Honey coated.yum. Salads were equally good. Lunch could also be had at Colin’s Shack. Recommend the burgers for sure. We tried Umi and Sizzle speciality restaurants and again could not be faulte. Our fav was Umi. Cocktails at bar very good and varied. Only niggle was only one bar at night so very busy. Maybe consider having Colin’s open later? Reception staff always eager to help. We having a great time ( go home tomorrow ) and cannot praise Sugar Bay enough. Well done to the great team.
Lovely trip here again but things are slipping. The warm welcome, the fantastic food and views are stunning. But the upkeep of the hotel, the bathroom in the rooms need a simple good bleaching and new silicone everywhere ( not expensive) but worst of all are the sunbeds around the pool the cushions look like someone has died on them - they are absolutely filthy. They try and hide it with a towel but they are gross. Such a shame no one is looking around to see what the guests actually SEE. THE STAFF ARE WONDERFUL but I cannot understand why someone doesn’t have higher standards when it comes to the look of things to guests ….its poor.
Booked sugar bay for 7 days February 2026 with my family of 4 including 2 teenage girls. We got two rooms, oceanfront deluxe and regular oceanfront. Rooms had a nice view, were clean, issues with hot water and water pressure on the first night but didn’t experience it after that. Everyone raved about the buffet online and it was fine. Nothing to write home about. The two specialty restaurants were good and I think if this place had one more specialty restaurant it would be better. You get sick of eating at the buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner day after day. We did go out one night for Italian and Champers on Saturday night to break it up. Beach was nice, the rocks breaking the ocean to keep it somewhat calm was helpful. Pool was fine but just too shallow. This resort is not lively at all. The chair game here is for real. No chairs at the pool early and we got front row on the beach because we are early risers and enjoy sitting and having coffee. It is very quiet with not much going on. I would also say I didn’t get the overly friendly staff that everyone online talks about. I would say about half were very friendly and accommodating. I had some who wouldn’t even hold a conversation with you. My family and I also felt that there was a clear difference in how they interacted with UK visitors vs us who are American. Overall the resort is safe, clean and has a good beach. If I were to go back to Barbados I wouldn’t stay here again. I think a lot of the people who keep coming here maybe haven’t experienced nicer AI hotels or even nicer hotels in the Caribbean. If you want a solid 3.5 star this is it. Nothing special or fancy.
Second time at Sugar Bay. We were genuinely welcomed back by management and the team who mainly remembered us from last year. Again the staff were all attentive, friendly and accommodating. Scenery, cocktails, rooms and food were all to a very high standard. We’ll definitely be back next year. Well done Morgan, Pedro, Paul and your teams.
We enjoyed our stay at the Sugar Bay. The best advert for this hotel is the number of guests that return. Room locks are operated by an arm bracelet. Bracelets are coloured: blue for the first visit. A pink bracelet for guests returning for second to fifth visit. Gold, and there were quite a few, for guests staying for at least the sixth visit. A popular destination! We enjoyed the friendly going nature of both staff and guests at this hotel. Very friendly and attentive staff. Spacious room, but as reported in other reviews, limited wardrobe space. Primarily 3 restaurants in the evening. Steak, buffet and Asian. Guests are entitled to one reservation per week at the steak and asian restaurants. however additional nights at the restaurants can be purchased. For a long stay ( we stayed for 11 nights), the restaurants are limited. Buffet restaurant varied between average and very good, depending on taste and offerings. Asian was good to very good. Many guests raved about the steak restaurant. Sadly we had a bad experience, purely due to the quality of our steaks. Tough was an understatement! The location of the restaurant and ambiance is not that good. Several of the guests we met, dined at local restaurants, with good reviews. Beach and pool. compared to some other Caribbean beaches, the beach here was disappointing. The sand was quite gritty. The hotel could perhaps do more to rake and tidy the beach. Long walks along the beach were limited. Farther down the coast line is an extensive boardwalk. The pool is not that big. Sadly there was the usual "towel dance" to reserve sunbeds, with the usual stories of guests putting towels on beds at day break. I had to do the same unfortunately. However to our surprise, one morning when we returned at 0830 our towels and books had been taken by the staff. I was advised at reception, that the hotel policy, was to remove items from sunbeds if guests do not return within 30 minutes! What a pity that; this tactic was not advertised or implemented on a daily basis. There is a mixed bag of the usual holiday entertainment in the evening, some good some bad. I recommend that you take ear-plugs! I think the DJ is trying to broadcast to the whole island. FAR TOO LOUD!!! In conclusion: we had a really nice holiday at the Sugar Bay. Thanks to all the staff that made us feel really welcome.
We booked here because the reviews made it sound like the best resort in the area, and we wanted an all inclusive, and an amazing meal at the steak restaurant on site. First disappointment was the steak restaurant was closed on the one night we were there. OK, lets try the Asian one. It was completely booked... so the buffet was our only option :( The drinks at the beach bar were excellent, and other guests said the food was amazing so we were excited to try it. What a disappointment! Very few choices, tough and dry chicken and steak, one seafood choice and just plain steamed veggies. Just not what we were hoping for. The room was clean and relatively comfortable, but about the smallest hotel room we've ever stayed at. Breakfast was back to the buffet which again was underwhelming. We did notice that almost all the beach and pool loungers were occupied by 9:30 am, so plan on reserving one early. For the amount we paid, we definitely didn't get the value.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Room and balcony was spacious and spotless. Staff were extremely friendly and polite. Food and drink selection were excellent and great quality. Overall we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend.
Previous customer Hotel has definitely changed - very very disappointing Beach unclean - no longer raked Hotel not as clean Paid for birthday balloons and cake but had to constantly chase Meal times - waiting staff very poor and inexperienced. Not enough waiting staff Absolutely no leadership at meal times Tables not cleared quickly enough by not enough staff - encouraging pigeons on tables to peck at food left Caught the beginning of half term Children were unruly and allowed unsupervised into the buffet area and started fingering food Numerous things could very easily be introduced to make life easier Water in jugs on tables Bar staff bringing drinks to tables Open Colin’s bar in the evening as an adult area only Saw no management whilst we were visiting No Morgan No pedro It was like a rudderless ship
(1)Nice weather. (2)Extremely friendly staff. (3)reef buffet very good food in general. (4) UMI EXCELLENT. (5) SIZLER steak house, very good. EXCEPT we were only allowed to eat one time.per 5 days. Not good policy. Resort very clean. Our room 206 the bathroom way to small. Entertainment good, but way to loud. Beach nice . Ingeneral we had a very nice time.our group was overcharged for our tour of of Harrison cave we could not get an adjustment or refund of the over charge. Overall the waitresses at all restaurants were very attentive.Schewanna really stood out and was very special! Kaydean, excellent and went out of her way for us. She does deserve outstanding service.
Resort was very good, pleasant atmosphere, clean room, service was great. The food was very good in all restaurants, but the limited time to eat in the two specialty restaurants was very disappointing, once per a week stay in each restorant was not satisfactory by any standard.
Beware ! Whilst the hotel is very good , clean , tidy and food choice good you really need to check your room allocation. We were allocated a good sized room but was right next to service entry and building works with no real view of the garden. Upon asking for a room change we were advised not possible as reservations team had left for the day and comeback tomorrow. This we did as requested at 9.30 then were told there is an alternative room but can’t tell you where it is !! Comeback at 12 which we did. The room was significantly inferior in size with a view of car park. I felt we had not been listened to and the alternative was going through the motions. Disappointing response to a perfectly decent request as marketing says views of pool or gardens which we found not to be the case. We are left feeling extremely disappointed as other aspects of our stay are good. Beware and clarify before arriving to avoid similar experience
Big spacious room, but no storage, Only furniture was a single draw bedside cabinet in the bedroom. Fairly inadequate hanging area with no shelves! Food pretty good for buffet., breakfast lunch and dinner, varied and largely hot. Beach area area good size but rarely a lounger without towels on pre breakfast, same around the pool. Main gripe was pigeons all over the tables especially at Collins the beach bar where we found the food to be very good, but a constant fight to keep the birds away. They Also infested the main restaurant. The other gripe was the Loud music! It started around 7.30 am and finally stopped at 10pm. Repetitive rap music by the pool, shouty girl bands by the main bar. And the deafening evening singers prevented any conversation, and had us resorting to Ear Plugs!! Staff were largely indifferent, with just a few exceptions. Snorkeling from the beach, disappointing with virtually no fish. Room cleaning? Very little done, and not every day, and no towels changed. Would we go back...No!
What a wonderful place! The hotel was everything we could ask for and the Team who work there were ALL so hardworking, friendly and wonderful people.
We booked Sugar Bay Barbados for a 7-night stay but checked out after just 3 nights due to poor customer service and a lack of willingness to accommodate us as guests. We travelled as a family with a baby and had clearly stated our dietary requirements at the time of booking and again at check-in. Despite this, the food options were extremely limited and unacceptable for a hotel advertising itself as a 4-star all-inclusive resort. No effort was made to improve this or offer alternatives. We were allocated a room accessible only by three flights of stairs, with no lift available. This was completely inappropriate given that I was recovering from a C-section and carrying a baby multiple times a day, made worse by wet, slippery stairs. When I asked to be moved to where there was lift access, I was told this was only possible if we paid extra to upgrade. The staff member we dealt with, Leanne, was rude, dismissive, and showed no empathy. The room itself was also very disappointing, with poor hygiene standards and a run-down bathroom more in line with a budget motel than a 4-star resort. Due to these ongoing issues, we chose to leave early. The hotel refused any form of refund and made no attempt to resolve our concerns or retain us as guests. Overall, we would not recommend Sugar Bay. Based on our experience, it does not meet 4-star standards. We spent the remainder of our stay at Wyndham Sam Lord’s Castle and the difference was night and day. The staff could not do enough for us, went above and beyond, and genuinely made our stay feel special. Although it meant paying extra, it was absolutely worth it and we would highly recommend Wyndham Sam Lord’s Castle.
This was our third stay at Sugar Bay, for 7 days. The hotel has a great location. Excellent check-in, with a welcome upgrade of our room. The hotel, facilities etc are all as described and seen in the photo galleria , so good. The staff are also excellent, especially the (large) bar staff and beach staff. The 2 speciality restaurants are included for a total of two visits per week (not 2 each, 2 total) and definitely worth using this option. Breakfast buffet in the Reef is fine, but limited. ( Great egg station). Downsides - food in the Reef seems to have deteriorated from our previous visits; choices not great, lunchtime salads very limited and most "hot" food luke warm. Serving staff e.g. carvers etc seemed disinterested and not trying to make food attractive (or hot). Colin's Bar & Grill good for lunch (waitress service) BUT be sure your food is freshly/well cooked etc. Overall Sugar Bay is reasonable value and a good choice for this part of Barbados
This hotel is wonderful. Positioned on the beach within walking distance/short drive to many of the islands highlights and historic areas. The Team At the hotel cannot do enough for you, greet you with a warm Caribbean welcome. Rooms are comfortable, clean and decorated in bright but relaxing, Caribbean colours. Food is exceptional, something different each day and to suit everyone, even my fussy Hubbie! If your spending money to come to Barbados, you can stay here knowing that everything is at hand and you’ll be treated so well.
We’ve been to a lot of different places, but sugar bay is the only one we’ve gone to more than once. You won’t find food like this place has anywhere in the Caribbean! People are amazing!
We visited Sugar Bay in November 2025. It was wonderful from start to finish. The staff were great, especially the restaurant and front of house. The food was lovely and the speciality restaurants are a must, but do book early. I wasn't so impressed with Sizzle, but I'm not a steak lover anyway, but Umi was great. My only complaint was that there was too much. The evening entertainment is low key. A couple of singers and steel drummers and fire shows. A night or two at The Lazy Mongoose are compulsory, but only after several rum punches at the beach bar 😆. We got a special upgraded room which was ocean front because we got married there. Honestly, it was the best day. No fuss. Just me and him, on the beach, with couple of friends we made who agreed to be witnesses. Organising it from the UK was done via email and our wedding organiser was AMAZING. Plus it didn't rain on our wedding day either. Thank you Sugar Bay for an amazing holiday and a really special wedding. See you soon 😊 xx
We stayed just after just afterXmas into the New Year and we had a great time. New Year’s Eve the staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great night. It’s a little slice of paradise with great food and brilliant people. We will definitely be back at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just returned from a two week stay at Sugar Bay. The service is exceptional and always delivered with a smile. These are the happiest friendliest staff I have ever encountered. The food was excellent every day. Lunch and dinner buffet choice was varied and the quality was superb. I was slightly disappointed with breakfast as I like to eat mixed berries natural yogurt nuts seeds and honey - none of which was available. I did enjoy the throwback cornflakes! Absolutely loved our stay at this wonderful hotel
My husband and I are about to go on our third holiday to Sugar Bay. We love it here. The staff are excellent, they are all very friendly and they can't do enough for you. The food is fantastic with a wide variety of different dishes available. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. We have met many people there who have returned numerous times. Our aim is to get a gold coloured wristband! We cannot fault it and have recommended it to friends, safe in the knowledge that they will enjoy themselves. Absolutely love it here,it's happy place and am counting down the days until we return
🌴 Sugar Bay Barbados – Second Stay & Still Absolutely Fabulous! 🌴 We’ve just got back from Sugar Bay today after our second stay, and honestly… what can I say? It was absolutely fabulous once again. This time we treated ourselves to an ocean-front room, and wow — it was worth every penny. Waking up every morning (and falling asleep every night) to the sight of the beach, turquoise sea, and palm trees was simply breathtaking. It never got old. 🍽️ The food was outstanding, as always. My go-to breakfast was smoked salmon on toast with two poached eggs, and a special shout-out has to go to Andrea, who was absolutely fabulous. She cooked the poached eggs, fried eggs, and omelettes to perfection, greeted me every day with a smile, and even started pre-empting my poached-egg order — now that’s service! For lunch, we often headed to Colin’s for fish cutters loaded with hot sauce — honestly, there’s no need to visit the famous Dave’s Shack when these are this good. Dinner never disappointed. While UMI was a favourite as ever, my personal highlight was the rack of lamb in the main buffet, it was to die for. ✨ The service throughout the resort was fabulous, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Damien behind the beach bar was always attentive remembering our favourite drinks, which is one of the many reasons we came back for a second time. We absolutely love Sugar Bay and wouldn’t hesitate to return again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxed, beautiful, and well-run Caribbean escape 🌊☀️💙
We spent two weeks over Xmas and New Year at Sugar Bay. This is a lovely hotel & we had a fabulous holiday with our 16 year old daughter. We paid extra for a sea view room and had uninterrupted views of the sea. Beautiful views and we even saw turtles in the sea from our balcony a couple of times (early in the morning). Minor gripe but I asked for an extra chair on the balcony as there were 3 of us but that seemed to be too difficult. The beach is lovely. We never had trouble getting sunbeds and the beach guys would arrive & put umbrellas up for shade. There is a sporadic beach service but it’s really not difficult to get up and go to the bar for drinks. The rock wall break points create a lagoon with excellent snorkelling. Just snorkel close to the rocks in the middle break - we saw loads of fish. One day a stingray came into the lagoon and quite close to shore. We didn’t spend time around the pool as the beach was so lovely. Quality of food at the buffet was generally really good. It’s not a massive buffet but we enjoyed what we had. The New Years Eve buffet was excellent. We had two meals at both Umi and Sizzle. We enjoyed all the food at both. We had lunch every day at Colin’s grill and tried some local dishes (pigs tails and macaroni pie). Santa arrived on a jet ski on Xmas Day and the fireworks were fun on NYE. We did an island tour with Sam the Man (he gave us his card while we were on the beach) and a catamaran trip with Silver Moon. Both were great experiences. The hotel is close to the race track and we had a walk there to watch a couple of races on Boxing Day. I had a massage at the spa & our daughter had a manicure with Xmas nail polish. Spa is small and reasonably priced. We also did the steel pan lesson - great fun. Gardens of the hotel are small but lots of plants and flowers with hummingbirds flying in and out. Shout out to the lovely Kimberley who is always smiling and pleasant and to Nicholai who helped us try to work our way through the cocktail menu! This is a very nice hotel and we would recommend it.
Look no further than this place. My wife and I travelled on our honeymoon. She has a celiac allergy and it was recommended to us food wise. The catering staff were unbelievably helpful taking her through what she could have and not and even offering to cook up separate dishes upon request. As it was our honeymoon we were upgraded free of charge to a deluxe ocean view room rather than the standard ocean view that we originally booked. There was a chilled bottle of wine waiting for us also! One of the best things about this place is just the atmosphere, all the staff from cleaners to waiters to water sports are so friendly, laid back and always wanting to have a chat. They often are laughing and bantering with each other which for me, creates such a nice, relaxed atmosphere on this beautiful Caribbean island. I cannot recommend sugar bay enough and we are already talking about returning as soon as we can, food is excellent as are the staff and as is the location.
Breakfast was better than expected for a buffet. Food was good with a great variety and a very attentive staff.
No complaints at all! The only person who didn't go out of their way to accommodate was Helen at the bar who needs to work on smiling more and being less condescending.
