Incredible property, I loved walking around the grounds and enjoying the view from the restaurant area. Staff were also helpful :)
I booked the budget room which was more expensive than budget rooms I’d paid for before and was extremely basic, but comfortable.
Amazing location surrounded by greenery! All Sepilok highlights are within walking distance: orangutans and sun bears just 10 minutes away, and RDC around 30 minutes (by walking). Lovely atmosphere and a varied menu with plenty of choices. Highly recommend.
The only downside is that the dorms get quite warm at night, as there’s no air conditioning, only a fan. The fleece blankets also feel unnecessary in this climate.
Fantastic, nestled in the jungle, the forest sounds were incredible at night.
Nothing
Beautiful surroundings and landscaping. Room was great for our needs - twin bedded, air conditioning excellent, tea/coffee/water in room a bonus. Breakfast ok.
The pillows very firm!
Nice grounds and location in Sepilok. Had dorm room to myself. Food was good and enjoyed breakfast buffet
Dorm ensuite bathroom was extremely dirty with dead bugs all over the floor, did not look like it had been cleaned for a while. Bed was dirty, hairs on under side of pillow and lots of pieces of dirt on sheet under blanket. Very hot in room during the night. Pool water was very cloudy/green. Double the price of other hostels I have stayed at in Malaysia/Borneo so really expected better than this
Portionen extrem klein.
We had a fantastic stay at Sepilok Forest Edge. We were a family of 4 with grown up kids. We had to stay in a dorm as there was no other accommodation but it was better than expected especially as we had our own bathroom. The pool was great after a hot day of sightseeing and the food in the restaurant was lovely although a bit pricey. Breakfast was really good too. Thank you.
Bearing in mind that you don’t book a place like this, in the middle of the jungle, if you’re expecting a 5-star Hilton, I found it absolutely perfect for the occasion. Peaceful, quiet, surrounded by nature, with a swimming pool and an excellent restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds, cleanliness, and hot water in the shower. Honestly, I expected it to be much more rough. It’s also just a 10-minute walk from the Orangutan and Bear Centre and reasonably close to the Rainforest Discovery Centre.
The restaurant, which is your only option in the area unless you have a car, is a little on the pricey side, if I have to say.

Ninguna queja.
Beautiful, tranquil setting
I liked that it overlooked the forest, with lots of wildlife around. Good buffet breakfast and staff are great and helpful with any questions. Dorms come with a towel and very comfy mattress and pillow
A few things are a little run down and need tending to! I was staying in the dorms, which overall were great, but they need attention to cleaning! Can see that they come in to change beds, but do t sweep the floor and the toilet/shower smells of urine. Same goes for the toilet in the restaurant! Food options are a little over priced. Would be great if they had a dish of the day deal, as they are also catering to backpackers!
The location was convenient for visiting Sepilok and the surrounding area. The property itself is in a nice natural setting.
The bunk-bed room was quite dirty and had clearly not been properly cleaned for a long time. There was a lot of dust, which made the room feel neglected. The restaurant was also extremely overpriced. The food was very average and definitely not worth the prices, which were excessively high. The biggest issue was the transfer from Sepilok to Sukau. The resort arranged the transfer and told me everything was ready, but the driver never arrived. I was later told that the driver had forgotten about me and was already too far away, so I had to arrange a private driver at almost four times the original price. I was also given no response when I asked the resort for the driver’s contact details. When I arrived at my next homestay, I was told that the transfer had actually not been properly arranged by the resort in the first place. Despite this, the resort refused to take any responsibility and blamed the driver. This was extremely frustrating and resulted in a significant additional cost for me.

Excellent location and fabulous surroundings and pool!
Staff were polite , but everything you asked for seemed a bit too much effort for them. Breakfast was awful and the same basic breakfast menu each day.
The glamping villa was absolutely perfect. It felt so special and secluded. Staff were so attentive and helped with any little issues we had.
Nothing
Beautiful setting
Only allowed a 30 minute late checkout. Not such a big deal because they probably have other bookings.
We were lucky enough to see a wild orangutan from our room balcony, which was definitely the highlight of our stay! 🦧 The air conditioning worked very well, and the location is convenient, around a 20-minute walk from both the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre.
The breakfast was average. The restaurant is quite expensive, as well as the bedroom by the way, but there aren’t many alternatives nearby, so you don’t have much choice. Check-in is quite late, around 3 pm, but we were offered a complimentary welcome drink while waiting, which was a nice touch. No TV in the bedroom but the wildlife outside is very nice to see instead.
Ijsje was erg lekker.

We loved being in Sepilok forest resort- it was situated in the jungle, it was so lovely to be in nature. Walking distance to the orangutan and sun bear rehabilitation centre.
Nothing everything was good
Prachtige omgeving
Goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding
The resort is really beautiful, I loved the pool, the breakfast and all the staff, I saw orangutans and a maroon langur in the resort trees, it’s close to the sanctuaries and really peaceful
I stayed in the dorm and although the beds were comfortable and the atmosphere was good, we all really struggled with the lack of air con, it is way too hot to sleep in there, even more fans would help, it was a huge downside to staying there unfortunately
Beautiful lodge in the middle of the forest, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. We saw several orangutans swinging in the trees during our stay.
Clean private cabin with views and a large balcony and effective air conditioning. Staff very friendly. Food excellent. Easy distance from bear and orangutan sanctuaries. A special spot!
Beautiful resort, amazing surroundings and a fantastic swimming pool.
There is no air conditioning in dormitory, which makes it unbearable given the heat and humidity here. There are only two fans for a dorm with 8 beds, which is simply not enough. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable at night. Also, I think much more attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms. The bathrooms were very dirty and clearly needed more regular cleaning.
Eten was goed in The Nest.
Location was good and the setting of the property was very pretty. Breakfast was good with a decent selection.
Staff weren’t great - we got there after check in time and room wasn’t ready. They gave us drink vouchers and said they would come and get us when it was. After nearly and hour we went to ask and it was ready but they had forgotten to tell us. We got into our room and had no electricity key, again took a long time to get this. Air con machine was above one of the beds and this leaked onto the bed. Food and drink appeared quite expensive compared to other properties nearby so we would go to those instead to eat/drink.
This resort is beautiful. It’s so green, the pool is super nice, you really feel good in this place!
It would be nice to have curtains on the beds in the dorms to have more privacy.
That the lodges were private, the setting beautiful. It was quite peaceful. Nice pool! Good restaurant. Lovely staff
Mosquitoes bit nobody can stop them, it’s a lodge on the jungle. We didn’t suffer too much to be fair.
Tout
.
Beautiful location and place. Restaurant fantastic. Staff very friendly. Saw an orangutan on the grounds! Nice pool area to sit at.
We stayed in a dorm which was very basic (but cheap). No air conditioning.
Schöne Anlage, etwas lange Wege

Food was excellent and staff were exceptional
Bathroom smelt a bit
Sepilok Forest Edge Resort is set in a beautiful patch of forest very near the Orangutan and Sun Bear centers, and is a good springboard to Kinabatangan (we bookended our 4-day river cruise excursion with stays here at Sepilok). The chalets are roomy, comfortable, cool and beautifully decorated — with nice accents like an outdoor porch looking onto the forest and an outdoor bath/shower. A cute little bat hung in the alcove outside our front door and orangutans could be spotted in the trees out the back door. The common area is really lovely with beautiful covered deck, plunge pool, and gardens. We loved eating at The Nest, finding the red curry lamb shank, fish in banana leaf, and jungle fern particularly tasty. Staff is friendly and responsive. We also enjoyed two day tours from Pitta Travel, the Mangrove and Fireflies (which delivered on both and much more) and the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. Stay here!
We loved everything.
Nicely located and very close to the sanctuaries. The restaurant serves good food. The bed was very comfortable. WiFi is only available by the reception and the restaurant area. Only stayed there for 1 night but overall I had a good stay.
Lokationen Venlighed Privat pool
15 min walk to the orangutans and bears, swimming pool was nice and had lots of towels. the resort grounds are pleasant.
no aircon in the dormitories, fans only. just two single bathrooms / showers for i think 5 x 4 bed dorms. average speed wifi only in restaurant and reception. no public water filter, only in the restaurant so you have to keep asking for water - crazy for a resort with potentially 100 guests and 35 degree heat absolutely awful. the breakfast is pretty basic. not enough loungers by the pool. restaurant prices are sky high - food and drinks are half the price elsewhere locally. there is not much of anything at all outside of the resort.
Really nice view very green with nice pool, calming view from restaurant. They provide towels for the pool.
The restaurant is clearly overpriced but it’s a “resort” so probably people dont mind spend money (the food is european priced not localy). And you had to tell the room number all the time so probably you can’t eat if you are not a guest. We stayed in dorm room it was nice but they could clean a bit more the boxes near the bed because you could se dust and hairs etc… we didnt mind not being perfectly clean but if they are a “resort” they should take care od cleanliness everywhere not just in vilas.
Good location, staff were friendly, facilities such as the restaurant and pool were good
Although it is high season, for what we paid, the room was very basic
Super leuk.
-
Good location within walking distance to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehab centre and Sun bears which are opposite each other. Plenty of grabs around to get to RDC. We had a nice room with a balcony to enjoy a drink on and take in the peaceful surroundings. You feel like you are in the wilderness. Pool nice to cool off in too. Easy for a 1-2 night stepping stone to the Kinabatangan river experiences Very basic breakfast but satisfactory before heading off for the day.
Nice tent and pool .
Didn’t feel clean overall. We had food delivered to room and asked for the mates to be cleared and weren’t done even by time we checked out next day. Felt service was sloppy and very average . For £500 a night i expected a lot better standards and expected enough toilet roll which there wasn’t. Also expected in a room for four that there would be 4 sunbeds but only two supplied . Staff didn’t seem bothered . Breakfast was extremely poor
Good location - 15 minute walk to the Sunbear & orangutan sanctuaries and 20 minutes to the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Friendly staff. Good breakfast and dinner. Nice grounds and pool for relaxing
The pool is great. Location is good, 15 min walk to orangutans and sun bears.
The dorms have no privacy curtains and no AC. There was a very unpleasant smell coming from the bathrooms in the dorm. If someone left the bathroom door open, the entire dorm started smelling badly. I would say the dorms are very overpriced. The food at the restaurant is alright, but also very expensive. It's a bit cheaper to eat next door at Banana cafe.
Great view from the balcony, incredibly remote and lots of wildlife. Upgraded room was worth it.
Breakfast wasn’t great and the room whilst comfortable was pretty basic, it should have been better given the price.
Natural location walking distance to Orangatang and Sunbear Rehab centres and short grab to Rainforest discovery.Had water filtration so you can refill your rooms glass bottles.
They was no lamp in room and only one pillow per person
Amazing location, great food, amazing wildlife
Nothing
The accommodation was clean and beautiful! We had our own villa within the resort. We enjoyed our evening meals at the restaurant and all staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here in the peace surroundings. There is a pool to use too!
Fijne kamers, goed ontbijt.
The location was great and it had a nice communal area
Staff were quite blunt and rude at times. I was ignored when I explained an allergy that I had in the restaurant. For the price I expected à little understanding.
Loved the resort. It felt very green and beautiful to watch the birds. Staff were very friendly and the room was really lovely. Outside and inside shower. View from the balcony was very peaceful.
Issues with transport to night walk twice. We were late both times and the second time we missed about half an hour of the night walk because of this. Massive shame as otherwise we had a great time at this resort. Unfortunately they were not apologetic about the delays either.
Great breakfast, great views, lovely staff
NA
Personnel aimable et souriant. Magnifique endroit au milieu de la jungle. Splendide.
Great location in the jungle. Lovely cottages with good cooling. Food OK. Nice walks
The property was very peaceful, with a lovely outdoor space & close to the Orangutan & Sunbears rehabilitation centres.
I thought the food was very overpriced for Malaysia. And the problem is because it’s in the middle of no where you can’t eat anywhere else. Also in the dorm rooms there are no curtains on the bed so everyone can watch you sleep and the bed frames were old and really dusty. For £17 a night I think it should be a lot better.
Great location, comfortable and clean. Pool is lovely!
Reception staff were a bit quick to get me in and out of their way. Felt a bit weird like I was an inconvenience. I left my bag in their covered box outside before the bed was ready which was no problem at all, however someone at some point left the covering up and of course it downpoured heavily for hours. Everything was soaking wet, bag and contents. Not the staffs fault but considering the giant baggage box is within an eye shot of the receptionist desk - it wouldve been nice for someone to glance over (not even having to get up) to make sure the cover was down properly protecting everyone's bags from the rain. Very irritating.
Location, the facilities
The staff did not book my hotel to go back to the airport
On the edge of the jungle close to local attractions. Very clean, helpful and friendly staff. All age groups were visiting.
Dommage
Hostel odaları ve olanakları daha iyi olabilirdi.Havuz ve restaurant kısmı iyiydi
The location is great, very near and walking distance to the orang oetangs and sun bears. The garden is pretty nice as well and neighboring the jungle. The rooms are what you expect near the jungle, however can use an update.
The prices at the bar are ridiculously high compared to all other locations (5) that we stayed in during our Borneo holiday. Employees of the lodge are not really walking around and speaking to their customers.
Beautiful location in the jungle, but also a short walk to the orangutan and sun bear centres. Delicious food at the restaurant and lovely staff. We were lucky enough to enjoy an electrical storm one night, from our balcony - really very special.
Very little not to love! My son wasn’t a fan of the breakfast, but I loved throwing the roti onto the bbq grill.
The location was convenient.
Staff can have attitude. Particularly in the restaurant. We stayed in their brand new lodge, Osa Johnson, apparently we are the first guests to ever use it. Our bathroom was infested with mosquitoes, we told them, they came, sprayed, cleaned and then the next day it was infested again. Breakfast was minimal, not many options.
Kaunis miljöö, luonto ja hyvä ravintolapalvelu. Erinomainen aamupala.
Dormissa oli vain tuuletin, ilmastointi olisi kivempi.
All was good!
Bathroom needs some TLC
The location was perfect. It was close to the orangutang rehabilitation center which was our main reason the visit Sepilok. The Sun Bear was just opposite the Orangutang center and also a short drive from the Rainforest Discovery Centre. We could visit all three places in one day without getting stressed with two children including an hour long lunch. The breakfast was average but still fine.
We had booked Gomantong. The cleaning was not what we expected. The lack of it was disappointing. We ate all our meals in Sepilok forest edge resort except from the lunch at the restaurant beside the Orangutang center. The food was nice but still regular and plain. The price did definitely not match the quality. We gave nearly 500 ringgit for lunch and average around 350 ringgit for the other meals. We are a family of four. We only had two nights so it really did not matter for us.
Breakfast: simple local with a little western. Dinner: curry fish and local veg were not bad.
Same breakfast every morning. Would be good to add some varieties. We ate the same thing for five mornings. Had some dinner there, so so, but the price is too pricey for such outlet. A can of local beer for RM20?
A perfect location on the edge of the rainforest and just a 10 minute walk to the Orangutan and Sunbear rehabilitation centres. Food was also excellent and the dining area is beautiful. The pool setting is also wonderful to unwind and take in your surroundings.
Our room was rather basic and we would have appreciated a double bed rather than a twin set up.
Accomodation cabins excellent. Food very good with friendly staff. Very clean and the new pool is fantastic.
Great location for the orangutan sanctuary, sun bears and discovery centre. Lovely pool to cool off after a morning of exploration
The area was beautiful, resort is surrounded entirely by jungle, a few people even got lucky and spotted a wild orangutan
There are a lot of dorm rooms available so the resort could really do with making some of them female only. As a female solo traveller it was quite uncomfortable to share such a small bedroom space with men that you don’t know, the beds also do not have curtains and the room only has a fan no aircon
Food was delicious and the place itself is beautiful and relaxing
Toiles without good ventilation
Great location - only 5-10 min walk from thr Orangatun and Sunbear sanctuaries and close to the RDC also. The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful. Quite a few reviews about the staff and theft but they were excellent during my stay - good english and no problems. The restaurant does get busy but never had any significant delay. It is more pricey also but expected given where you are but food is tasty. I stayed in the dorm - comfy beds. Very hot but fans do the job. I don't think they clean the dorm rooms during the stay which is a shame - communal areas are cleaned.
No cleaning of dorm rooms - would appreciate of they floor and bathroom was cleaned.
The environment the hotel was in was beautiful, close to the orrangatangs and sun bears. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Food and drink was very good. I would like to give a special thank you to Kay who has a lovely personality and is a credit to the hotel, as are all the staff.
Had to leave
Beautiful pool. Loungers and towels provided. Lots to choose from for breakfast. Shampoo, bodywash and handwash provided.
Mixed dorm bedrooms and bathrooms were NEVER cleaned!! Bins were overflowing in communal areas for 2 days in a row. Someone was coming in to change bedding between one guest leaving and another arriving but not cleaning for some reason. On day 2 I mentioned it to reception around 4pm. They emptied the bins but still didn't clean the room/floors/bathroom. The bathroom was disgusting from the day I checked in! Shared with 4 people (male & female) for 2 days or more and never cleaned prior check in or during my say, you can imagine #vile. My pictures don't show how truly grim it was, bad camera. The shower head isn't fixed to the wall or have anything to sit in. It just hangs to the ground and you hold it to use it. I didn't eat here. Reviews advised overpriced and disappointing. Only had a lemon tea RM11. You can't have the use of a hairdryer. "They are only for the private rooms". I'll add a video of the to their google review page. 30th May 2026.
