We have now stayed at the Hobbit several times and each time has been great. It's not 5-star but it doesn't pretend to be - it's just a good solid Kiwi motel! It's got a nice quiet location, is always very clean and tidy, and is great value for money. The Hobbit will always be our first choice whenever we're in the area.

10 mins walk to the supermarket and food caravans , coffee . Because the town is very small once you’re at the shops it’s easy to find your way round .

It was more spacious and nice than the photos could portray. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and roomy cozy space. Great heating too, even in the summer when the temperature dropped a lot at night.

This motel was nice and quiet. I was there in the ‘off’ season for skiing but it was great for getting some spring time hikes in. Great location for hiking to Waitonga Falls and also being able to walk to the town of Ohakune. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very nice little motor lodge. Very welcoming staff and very clean. Linen and furniture is a little tired, but aside from that it's a very good spot to spend the night between Wellington and Auckland

This was an average 3 star motel in a good location. The price was right! The bed was one of the worst I've slept on but the room was clean. You can hear your next door neighbours.

An older property that has been kept up nicely. Very friendly staff and clean comfy room. Very quiet area in town and a short drive to restaurants.

Clean and well maintained and very convenient to Ohakune and Mt Ruapehu.

The bunk beds were so creaky I thought I was going to squash my friend sleeping on the bottom and the room smelt a bit weird, but other than that the bathrooms were all very clean and the reception lady was very nice

Nice motel

Clean and comfortable. Spa room accommodated two adults and older kids nicely.

the staff not only gave us the keys, but also walked us to the unit to show us exactly where it was. The room was spacious for the four of us (parents plus 2 teenagers)

The parking is pretty cramped, but the unit was nice and tidy.

Good property, close to snow boarding, plenty blankets and beds were comfy

We arrived at 2 pm and had to wait until 3.20 pm for the owner to get back home from walking the dog

Only stayed 1 night but was comfortable and had a great view of the mountains from our window had a room upgrade so had the to floor to ourselves

Convenient for our purposes

A nice place to stay in Ohakune, good for our family overnight stay during a road trip.

We had the family suite, which had a kitchenette and spa bath. The kitchen was amazing for cooking full meals - although lighting over the kitchen needs to be improved. The spa bath was a hit with all skiers and kids a like.

Convenient to National Park & mountains. Appointments a bit spartan [only one armchair in room, f.i.] but otherwise comfortable for one night.

Nice room and very good shower with good water pressure

The room was basic but exactly what I needed. Beds were comfortable and warm and the heater in the room was just enough. Shared bathroom was clean and showers were awesome.kitchen was clean and had everything I needed. This place also has the most amazing drying room for your wet ski gear. Only small issue was bunk bed was a bit squeaky. Would defo stay again.

We had a spacious room with spa bath for the kids and a shower with wonderful pressure - great after a day up the mountain! Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to rebook!

Lovely clean and tidy motel. Very friendly receptionist. Sufficient heating but the wall one a bit noisy. Close to town - would stay there again. Signage on road probably could do with an update - gives the wrong impression

Perfect location, clean tidy room with everything we could possibly want.

This is a good old-fashioned motel. Not flash, but has everything you need for a very reasonable price. We stayed in the bunk rooms and the beds were comfortable enough. Bedding was provided so this was one less thing to worry about. The bathroom facilities were shared, but the showers were hot and the water pressure was good. To top it off, WiFi was provided.

Liked the helpful and friendly owner. Unit was clean and modern and the spa bath was great.

Picture perfect!! The hosts were amazing, the lodge was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and just a short walk to the (very) small town. The hot tub was lovely - the only problem was that we didn't stay long enough!!

Great family room for upto 5

Room was quite good and spacious However the spa which was advertised was closed for repairs,and it was a deciding factor in choosing this place as we were doing a lot of hikes,and the caretaker was doing some renovation to the floor in another room till after 10pm when I had had enough and went to let him know that some people were trying to SLEEP! Also the tiny heater which sounded like a jet coming in to land kept cutting in and out all night

Three of us stayed in the suite which was spacious and clean. Amazing pressure in the shower and big spa bath. After we checked out we rode the Old Coach Road and they were kind enough to let us use the showers in the lodge when we got back before we headed home.

The host was very helpful and friendly. Motel surrounding is magnificent.

We had an enjoyable weekend at The Hobbit Motorlodge. Our hosts were very nice and welcoming. We had travelled up from Blenheim for our sons Army Reserve Marching Out Parade at Waiouru Military Camp. Ohakune is a lovely wee town and is easy travelling to Waiouru. I imagine during the winter it comes alive for the ski season. For us it was the right choice. Our only little thing was the heat during the nights. I’m sure if we had thought of it and asked, we could have gotten an upright fan from the Office which would have made sleeping a bit better. Thank you for our very pleasant stay. 😀👍

We stayed for three nights mid December to do the Tongariro Alpine crossing and the Ohakune Old Coach Road cycling trail. Great location for that. We got a very spacious and comfortable room. Our host was welcoming and very helpful with a little intro to what to see and where to eat in the area. Will definitely stay there again when we come back to do the Tongariro Alpine crossing again in better weather (which by the way is absolutely worth doing even in rain and strong wind).

2-bedroom unit good quality furniture n furnishings. Lovely hosts.

The rooms were comfortable and suited our needs. They were clean and had the basic services that we required. Internet access was good, which made a difference to our 7 year old. He loved the trampoline and the spa pool.

Motel was nice and close to everything . Was very clean and had a great shower pressure. The heat pump was a bit noisy and our room was close to a road so at night, you could hear the cars driving by. Not loud enough to wake up a deep sleeper but can annoying.

Great location nice alpine feel with lovely tree setting. Tasteful and comfortable room. Nice warm heat pump. Great hot shower. Really enjoyed our stay for the week. Cosy and comfortable without paying a fortune. :)

Short stay for a weekend away, helpful and friendly staff, lots of warm blankets available including for the cot we requested. Good heating to stay warm at night.

Nice rooms set in pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and the bonus of a sunken outdoor spa pool. Better than most in Ohakune

Stayed in the hostel rooms, not the larger rooms so do not use this reference for those larger rooms. Hostel rooms I have stayed in two, one had two bunk beds and the other a single bunk bed. Rooms are small, both had their own tv which could only be watched from the top bunks. Kitchen area is limited. Dining/Lounge area is limited. Spa is nicer/cleaner than some I've used in the area although a touch smaller, nice private outdoor setting though and still usable in the rain.

We had a group of 5 lads and we got a lovely little apartment that was warm and tidy. The spa was a life saver after being on the mountain all day and Ian and his wife made us feel very welcome.

Good, very clean accommodation, well equipped with adequate heating, kitchen, bathroom and TV faciliities accommodation.

Queen bed was far too soft, ended up with bad back. Otherwise all great. Single bed fab. SPA pool was out of order for one night and we so needed it, but to be fair they got it going by the next night. So well done.

Great place would stay here again. It was clean and tidy, well looked after. Friendly hosts. Very close to town. The room was spacious and warm. Had a great time.

Weekend away with kids & snow

Love the spa but think 20 mins is not long enough. Maybe 1/2 hour slots are better.

Just needed an overnight place to sleep and it was great

No microwave in our room or plunger coffee pot. However, enough room for the 2 of us. Warm and comfortable. TV was a mission to find the channels as someone had 'played' prior to our stay.

We had an overnight stopover and found the Hobbit Motor lodge to be very clean and extremely comfortable! We stayed in a standard studio and although basic it had everything we needed and exceeded our expectations. Would stay there again.

We had a pleasant 2 nights at The Hobbit in some very cold weather with one day "housebound" due to the heavy snow and ice. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Electric blankets for all the beds (other than the extra in the lounge area) were well received and very necessary. The staff were warm and welcoming. The lodge was easy to find.

Quick stop over on the way from Wellington to Auckland. We will be back for longer stay.Lovely room. Friendly manager.
