Canoe Safaris Lodge

A delightful place to stay, easy walking distance to the stores and restaurants in town. Hostess/owner was warm and friendly in welcoming and caring for us.

Great place to stay in Ohakune, centrally located. Friendly owners. Thanks!

Great size rooms. Extra blankets given to keep us Aucklanders warm down there. Fantastic drying room, short walk into town, clean and warm rooms, friendly staff and spa pool after a day up the mountain was icing on the cake! Will definitely stay again when in Ohakune next.

Owners were very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and comfortable. Nice strong water pressure in the shower which is always welcome :).

Good

Very clean and comfortable rooms. Central to town and the service they provided was exceptional! Thanks to Kirsty & Phil, we had a great time there. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

Very central. Flexible hosts

Excellent room - newly renovated and ideal for a ski weekend. Phil was a great host. Will definitely look to book again

Really nice hosts! This is a bit of a hidden gem, the name may suggest more of a summer vibe but this is a great spot for a winter weekend mission to the mountain. They don’t have many rooms which is kinda nice as is keeps things pretty quiet. Heaps of parking space close to the rooms and the spa was great after a day on the mountain. Simple, very clean and well priced with great host! Not much more you could ask for.

Had a great weekend on the slopes. We thought it was going to be weird with 3 adults in one room (mostly family but not all), but it was like camping at school, so a novelty with lots of laughs. Location is good - walking distance to rental stores and town. Also round the corner from main road to the mountains. Phil was very accommodating and friendly. We just needed a place to sleep and though there was some minimal noise with next room occupants everyone was good about being quiet once it got to midnight. We ate out mostly as there are some good restaurants in town. I recommend booking if you have a family in case it is a busy weekend. Wait times arent too long though. Bring a hair dryer if you need as I dont recall seeing one there. Rooms clean and heating was on for our late arrival which was much appreciated. I hope the spa can be fixed for the next stay, that would be perfect. Thanks!

Great hosts. Easy to communicate with. The room was very tidy and comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here and would be happy to stay again.

The room was safe, tidy and the very accessible. Lots of parking space andvwalking distance to shops.

The rooms were a good size for a bigger group. Had a bit of a hiccup with the booking but Phil had us sorted out easy! Comfortable and clean rooms with ample heating given the cold & rainy weather! One of the rooms had a leak though caused by the terrible rains. But overall it was a great place to stay in and would recommend to others!

Spacious room with a comfortable bed. Phil was extremely helpful and friendly. Would stay again.

Stayed for two nights as we were skiing at Tauroa and Whakapapa. Really convenient location and great advice on travel up the mountain and rentals.

Host Phil and Kirsty were very accommodating and super friendly. The room was extremely clean, warm and comfortable. Thanks guys, see you again for a canoe safari!

Nice big rooms, very comfortable beds good kitchenette

Phil is proactive and attentive. The place punches above its weight.

Excellent rooms, friendly staff, great spa, drying rooms. Superb views of ruapehu. Will defintely come back

This property was in a great location close to the centre of town. The facilities were exceptionally clean and tidy and service was great.

Very clean and comfortable accommodation. We stayed in a studio unit with a small kitchen facility that had all the basics. Great spa pool that we enjoyed after a big day on the mountain. Friendly and informative host. Thanks so much. We enjoyed our time in Ohakune.

Nice and tidy. Clean room with good bathroom and kitchenette. Room was cleaned daily with good supplies. Comfortable for 3 people. But the our younger child had to sleep in sofa bed which was very uncomfortable.

Perfect for our weekend skiing trip. Drying room and spa are bonus

Very cosy, excellent location, highly recommended!

Room was really clean and new with basic kitchen facilities for boiling water, cooking etc.Staff was frienldy and helpful. Room was little, definitely not for 5 persons, maximal 3 people and had just 3 chairs and a very little table.

The lodge was very quiet and homely, the staff were really friendly and informative too.

Great friendly place. Tidy and warm and centrally located.

This place is very unassuming. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside is great. It's spacious and well equipped. Beds, including sofa bed, was comfy. Water pressure nice and strong. Cleanliness was 10/10. Only suggestions are that there should be blinds for the front door window to block the light that shines through at night, and there should be more hooks /hangars or racks for clothing.

Really freindly atmosphere, very welcoming. So close to shops and cafes. Really relaxing stsy.

My husband, son & I stayed here for one night. It was great value for money and close to town centre. We enjoyed the spa pool, studio rooms were comfortable and well presented. Staff were very friendly. I would stay here again.

Comfortable.

Great place.

This is our second stay here and again we thought it was great! Great hosts, central location, and spacious, clean, modern rooms. We also had a view of the mountain from ours which was a bonus.

Easy central, yet quiet location. Our room easily accommodated our family of 5 with comfort. Great having a well stocked kitchenette too . The hosts where very accommodating and we were very impressed to return from a days skiing to see our beds were made and and fresh towels provided. We will definitely stay again.

We enjoyed our stay there. Room is big, clean and the bed is very comfortable. Kitchen is big enough to prepare our dinner and breakfast.

Amazing place to stay on a quiet street except the very loud sounding alarm in the middle of the night. Town centre within walking distance great and helpful staff on site. Would definitely go back 😊

We arrived quite late and there were clear directions given for room which was lovely and warm for us. Phil was great the next morning too - lots of helpful information about what we needed, eg snow chains for car. We had a super stay and the room was warm and clean.

Nice hotel close to town Good beds good shower. Definitely stay there again.

Overall pleasant experience. Arrived late from Auckland, management still there to help organise my room. Room is simple but that was expected. Very close to town which helps purchasing lift passes and rental gear.

It's not much to look at outside, but it's close to the centre of town, the rooms are tidy, clean and warm, the kids had bunks which was awesome, and the owner is a really friendly guy with a cool dog named Bruce. It's no frills, but we didn't care. Would happily stay there again!

Close to main city centre

Super clean and tidy rooms, with a great supply of kitchen equipment. Nice new bathrooms. We had a great stay and enjoyed the spa pool / hot tub. The staff/owners are very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We highly recommend this place.

Comfy warm rooms, spa was a nice bonus, hosts were super friendly and accommodating, location was perfect as walk to dinner!!

Location great for ski fields, cafes just a short walk and staff helpful & friendly. Will be back to do canoe safari in Summer 👍

Lovely staff and very helpful. Great Views of Mt Ruapehu. Came during school holidays in winter so it was very cold. The eco-panel warmed the room slightly and only the queen bed had a electric blanket. Very close to the centre of town and also to the shuttle bus that can take you up Turoa.

Great gateway to a beautiful day of skiing. Fitted a family of 5 comfortably, will definitely be back.

Comfortable beds and the room was immaculately clean.

Ideal for going up mountain. Drying room available. Good value for money.

A great little lodge, extremely close to shops and eateries in Ohakune and more importantly the Ruapehue snow centre office for passes and transport up the mountain. Friendly stafff, nice warm modern room and plenty of parking.

We stayed here (couple and two children) after a day on the mountain. We arrived at the hotel around 6pm to be greeted by the Phil who was very welcoming. We were extremely happy with our room - spacious, clean, tidy plenty of heating which warmed up our room very quickly (one heater was already on upon arrival which was a thoughtful touch) Our room comprised of twin and queen beds and a fold out couch, all of which were comfortable. We were very happy with the kitchen amenities (microwave, portable cook tops, pots/pans etc) and the bathroom was adequate for what we needed, with excellent hot water pressure. Unfortunately we didn't get to try out the spa and it doesn't open till the afternoon, but our checkout was 10am. The tv reception is average and I couldn't get sky working, but this wasn't an issue as we were all too tired to do anything other than sleep! Perfect location - very close to town, restaurants, bars and new world supermarket. This is a comfortable, quiet, basic, value for money hotel and it was an affordable family stay. We will definitely be back over the snow season.

We enjoyed our stay and room during our 2 day ski trip at Turoa. The room was a good size and could have slept more people (there were only 2 of us). It was nice to have some space to spread out in. The owner / managers were very helpful, giving recommendations for cafes and restaurants etc.

Room as described, large, clean and well heated, staff very helpful and friendly, handy location, WiFi upgraded during our stay and worked very well from our room. Would definitely stay again. Kitchen facilitates a bonus as this was not mentioned in the listing.

awesome, clean, tidy rooms. Great for a weekend stay

We had a great stay - the accommodation was comfortable, clean and affordable.

Staff were very friendly, room was clean and tidy and comfortable. A bit small but we werent in ohakune to hang out in the hotel so wasn't a big deal. Great shower!!

Warm, good location and friendly staff. Affordable and close to shops.

Arrived in the evening at the hotel and good receptions from the staffs' hotel. The staff gave me very good advised and guidance about the attraction places within the area. We stayed in one room at the first floor which included 1x double bed, 1x single bed and sofa bed with 4 adults.

Quite location but within walking distance to shops, supermarket, restaurants and ski shuttle. Room is large and clean. Service is basic and no toiletries provided. Stayed two nights and we felt good about our stay. The hosts were friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our short stay at Canoe Sarfaris Lodge. The new owners were very welcoming and forthcoming with information on the area, weather, road conditions, recommendations on where to eat etc. We stayed in a studio room which had all the basics and a lovey comfortable bed. The bathroom was large as it was designed for wheelchair access. For us it didn't have any vanity or shelving to put things on up off the floor and the towel rail is not near the shower and it was cold due to its openness and lack of heating. All minor things as we appreciate the purpose of the design. The new owners were busy cleaning and maintaining the property which will only improve the Lodge. We wish them all the best.

Great location, within walking distance to cafes, restaurants and supermarket, also on the way to the mountain. The room was spacious and warm (we visited in July). The owners were very nice and helpful, made sure we got the most of our stay. We will be back, thanks.

Great service, clean and good location. Only wish the room could be better set up. eg. Only 1switch for the entire room, and 1switch for the bathroom (activating ventilation, light, and heat lamps); so it was not possible to leave a night light on for the kids. eg. Cooking was on a hot plate; so it is only ok for the simplest of cooking.

Thanks Kirsty and Phil, what a great place and you guys were so helpful, last minute changes were no problem. Thanks for a great holiday, will definitely return when next heading to the snow, and maybe even canoeing!

Comfortable stay in good location. Friendly owner. No spa which was the only minor disappointment.

Stayed for two nights. Room was perfect for what we needed, just around the corner from the centre of town and close to the start of the Old Coach Road. Easy check in and out. Nice and quiet spot. Will use again.

This hotel was booked as a last minute trip, to do the Tongariro crossing. My friend and I were pleased with the room size, comfort of the beds and a very nice hot shower. The kitchen facilities were great and New World is a minutes drive away. The owner was a great chap and very helpful when we asked for local advice.

We stayed here for 5 nights for our snowboarding trip. When we got there the man in charge was really friendly and great to deal with, but unfortunately the next day a younger French lady was in charge instead - she was extremely rude and made us feel very unwelcome, she kept questioning us when we wanted to use the facilities (dyer and washing machine for our snow gear so we could use it dry the next day!) even though when we booked it said these were available for use. She made us feel like we were doing something wrong just staying there! Also there was meant to be free wifi - but this did not work in our room at all which is very inconvenient when your are staying away from home and needing to look up activities/mountain and everything else - my phone bill after this trip is now huge on top of the $730 we paid to stay in this accommodation. The room itself was nice and the bed was comfy and the outdoor spa pool was also really nice addition. The towels were changed for us each day But its sad that the staff really put us off wanting to stay here again and the 'no wifi' wasn't great either.

always enjoy our stay here. friendly staff and good facilities. The showers are the best after a long day on the ski field

It was good, we enjoyed. Would stay again.

Stayed again. perfect for the snowboarding getaway. room warm and comfortable. close to town. 15-20 mins and your at the chairlifts ready to go !

It was a fantastic couple of days. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was awesome, big and clean. We left a day early only because the weather up the mountain had turned and we decided to come home to our families. The hotel is very close to town and we enjoyes walks to explore the area. We have another trip soon so will be back for sure.

close to town, close to the mountain. warm, comfortable room.

We stayed two nights and loved it. We were up the mountain for 3/4 of our day and back at the lodge using their epic spa in the late afternoon. Thank you for great accommodation!

warm comfortable room with an awesome view of the mountain. can't wait for our next ski trip. just hope there are rooms available when we come down again.

The reception upon my arrival was lovely. The room was spacious and pristine. The heated mattress pad and good water pressure in the shower made the stay lovely and relaxing

Two night stay, one room realistically not big enough for a family. Suit couple or couple or trio of travelers, or up to four backpackers/travelers who are happy to be in quite close confinement. I was hopeful we would get a mountain outlook for the price, but sadly building has been constructed facing the wrong direction. Not able to try spa as it was super freezing weather, plus not undercover or sheltered in any way so not terribly practical on a colder winters day (when you'd most likely want to enjoy it) . We paid quite a bit for our two night excursion so was disappointed that, the toilet had broken parts and plates etc had chips and damage. I would have also expected a better clean with no mound around fittings in shower etc However if you're not fussy about the finer details this lodge was comfy and in reasonably new condition.

Our family of four stayed in one of the studio rooms and found it met all our needs. The room was tidy, super clean and had all the facilities we would want. Location is close to the supermarket but on a quiet street, which made it ideal for our family. It was a good basic unit which perfectly met our needs. Bathrooms were generous in size, shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. Owners were pleasant and left us to our own devices. Would recommend and we will certainly stay again.

We have stayed here twice. It is nice enough without being spectacular. It is tidy and functional and it is cheap compared to most other places locally so you get what you pay for. It is good value for money.

Great l9cation, close to town and short journey to ski field. Very friendly staff, who were knowledgeable of local activities and suggested appropriate activities for the children. Kids enjoyed the spa pool. Only issue would be the TV channels were limited but most time spent outside so not a problem. Clean, practical and good value.

We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for your hospitality. We will definitely come back later in the season

Good stay, just there for 1 night, but very clean and comfortable. Huge bathroom!

Not much street appeal, in fact it has none! Very much looks like a river canoe base which it is. The rooms are on the second floor and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. they were clean and the shower worked really well which is always a good thing. All in all good basic accommodation.

Close to shops, modern and pleasant. Reasonably basic but perfectly nice.
