We stayed in Berjaya Hotel in Mount Lavinia, Srilanka during our recent 50th anniversary of passing out from Moratuwa University. We had a sit down dinner in the hotel as well and stayed a number of nights in the Hotel. Hotel staff were very friendly and the food at the sit-down dinner and breakfast was very nice. Special mention and thanks to the front office manager Kapila Livera and his team for the friendly & efficient service provided. Has no hesitancy in recommending this hotel to any expat or tourist planning to stay in Colombo.

A fairly nice no-frills hotel. Check in and out was smooth: efficiently handled. Room was spacious, neatly maintained. Breakfast was fairly good, service tardy. Dinner ala carte, fairly okay with Anupama doing a good job. Pretty view from balcony, but spoilt with railway track and shacks between. Sea a little far away to hear the soothing sounds of rollers. Pool clean. Too close to railway track: very noisy. Toiletries sub par: carrying own a must. Little else of special mention.

I have stayed at the Berjaya several times over the past few years, which makes it disappointing to see the hotel's condition gradually deteriorate with each visit. While the room was generally clean, it was clearly showing its age, with parts of it literally falling apart. The hotel is in need of a significant refurbishment if it is to maintain the standards guests would expect. In the past, the excellent service has always been the hotel's saving grace, but unfortunately this visit fell well below my previous experiences. Many of the housekeeping staff seemed disengaged, and the pool staff appeared more focused on chatting amongst themselves than assisting guests or ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. I appreciate that fluctuations in the tourism industry, often driven by factors beyond the hotel's control, may make major investment difficult. However, even without a full renovation, greater attention to maintenance, staff engagement, and customer service would make a noticeable difference to the guest experience. The hotel's location and spectacular views remain its greatest strengths and are the main reasons I have continued to return. I sincerely hope management invests in both the property and its service standards so that it can once again live up to its potential.

I had a super lovely experience at the hotel. The rooms, food & environment are lovely and calm. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Staff member Nilantha was very welcoming and always there to help me with anything i needed. I absolutely recommend here to stay.

I stayed at Berjaya Hotel for two nights, but I couldn’t wait to leave and ended up moving to another hotel. The first room I was given was terrible. It had a strong, unpleasant smell, and the carpet felt soaking wet, which made the whole room feel dirty and uncomfortable. I called reception, and instead of sending someone to help or apologizing for the inconvenience, I was told to come back to the reception to get another room. I had to pack all my luggage again and carry everything myself just to change rooms. Unfortunately, the customer service was disappointing throughout my stay. The staff rarely smiled, didn’t seem welcoming, and generally acted like helping guests was a burden. The hotel itself feels very old and poorly maintained. The rooms were not clean, and the worst part was finding red ants in the bed. I was bitten several times during the night, which made it impossible to get a proper night’s sleep. The only positive thing I can mention is the view, which was quite nice. I also booked the bed and breakfast package. The in-room dining food was reasonably good, but the breakfast buffet had very limited variety, and once again, the restaurant staff were not particularly friendly. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Between the poor room condition, lack of cleanliness, unfriendly service, and the inconvenience of having to change rooms myself, I simply couldn’t enjoy my stay. I decided to check out early and move to another hotel. I would not choose to stay here again, and I hope the management takes guest feedback seriously because the hotel has a lot of room for improvement.

As a thoughtful gesture, they offered us a complimentary dinner, which was delicious and greatly appreciated. Their hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again.

Very disappointing experience at Berjaya Hotel Colombo. The breakfast staff’s behavior completely ruined what could have been a pleasant stay. We were delayed by only around 10 minutes for breakfast after an exhausting journey the previous night, and we had already informed the hotel beforehand over the phone that we might be slightly late. Despite this, the staff in charge was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Instead of showing basic hospitality or understanding, he stood over us while we were taking food and repeatedly rushed us to finish quickly. The entire experience felt uncomfortable and embarrassing rather than welcoming. Hospitality is about making guests feel valued, and unfortunately that was completely missing here. A little empathy and professionalism would have gone a long way.

Nilantha has received us and took us to the room. His hospitality is excellent.

Pleasant stay, comfortable rooms. Pool is amazing and looks over the beach. All rooms face the ocean. Food is decent, Breakfast is amazing. Nilanthe at the gate is the most helpful person I came across, always wore a smile and enterprising, guiding and more so caring. He ensured we don’t get for our flight.

The hotel and the staff are wonderful, it has an interior courtyard with a swimming pool with variable depth, the bellman is a nice, smiling, polite, respectful guy, the ambiemce is relaxed, intimate, pleasant and the food is great! What more can we ask for? Go for this hotel 🙏🏻

We had a great experience at berjaya hotel.the view is beautiful, food is delicious, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We had a small issue with room door key ,but Malindu from maintenance fixed it quickly - great and supportive staff. Highly recommended,very safe and worth staying!.

The rooms were not tidy and once we went to have Dinner, the Buffett was over and we had to order from the set menu. we waited for the food in the restaurant and the waiter took the wrong order and we ended up in the room waitng for the food to be prepared again. it took another 1 hour for the food. Only the Housekeeping Boy Dilshan gave an excellent service.

This hotel is very close to the beach. But far from city centre. This is a old hotel lack of maintenance. I found dust on the furniture. Spider was hanging from the roof. I asked for drinking water to room service. But they didn’t send. Every time entered the room have to logging the Wifi repeatedly.

My wife and myself really enjoyed our stay here!! We were visiting Sri Lanka from Germany. The Hotel is right on the beach. The atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful. We had a very comfortable direct Ocean view room with excellent Air-conditioning which we found super helpful when dealing with this extremely hot April temperatures in Colombo. The Manger Mr.Livera is extremely friendly, polite and super helpful!!! The staff are all very polite and friendly. The prices are also excellent. We highly recommend this Hotel for anyone visiting Colombo.

Location is fabulous as it's just opposite beach. Food is typical Sri Lankan which may not cater to everyone's taste. Staff are very cheerful n helpful. They have a swimming pool which is very well maintained. Rooms are hygenic n airy with balcony facing the beach. Would definitely recommend others to visit this hotel and experience an enjoyable n comfortable stay.

Rooms are nice. Fairly spacious. Beds comfortable. Good a/c. Easy access to beach.

Breakfast is lacking in variety. Staff, while not unfriendly, are pretty nonchalant. Not especially helpful, which is unusual in Sri Lanka. This seems to be the attitude throughout the hotel. While the room was nice, the balcony was noisy due to the a/c unit which also took up nearly half the space. Made the balcony not very nice. In the bathroom the sink was very slow to drain and the toilet difficult to flush. All of this might seem minor until you realize that this hotel is more expensive than the historic luxury hotel nearby.

We took three rooms and all of them were not very clean. Loads of mosquitoes under the beds. There were some patches on mattresses and some sheets. Rooms were not comfortable at all There were no access gate to the beach unless you go round from the front

Great staying at Berjaya Hotel Colombo. Rooms are clean and with all the amenities. Daya from the Berjaya hotel team made sure that we had a pleasant stay.

The glory days of Berjaya Hotel Colombo are over. The lack of maintenance has made the hotel shabby and the staff a bit unpolished. Today the management are targeting the Indian and Sri Lankan middle class. The hotel serve a nice Sri Lankan breakfast buffet accompanied by your choice of omelette and fresh fruit. Unfortunately there is one big drawback: They only serve hot water, Nescafé, tea bags and warm milk. BUT don’t let the fact that the hotel could do with a little love discourage you. Under the surface you will find a most enjoyable and relaxing hotel in a perfect location at Mount Lavinia Beach. I stayed here for a for a 10-day convalescence during an antibiotic course and tests in Nawaloka hospital. If you book from the hotel homepage you will get a single or double room on the top floor with a balcony facing the pool, the beach and the ocean. All this for under USD 50 (incl tax) per night including breakfast — a perfect option if you are travelling on a shoestring budget or looking for a long time stay in Colombo. Enjoy! // Niklas

I stayed in this hotel 7 - 10 October 2025. The room I stayed is clean and comfortable. Hotel staff are courteous. Special mention must be made of Mr. Kapila di Livera who looked into every aspect of my stay including transport. HIs dedication and attention to detail are amazing.

The location is a highlight, situated directly on the picturesque Mount Lavinia Beach, making it perfect for beautiful sunset views and relaxing walks. ​They have an exceptional hospitality becuade the staff members were consistently friendly. Dining at the hotel was also a pleasure, with a train view and good food. ❣️

Staying at the Berjaya Hotel again…… even though there are a number of things that need some improvement I always feel so at ease when I’m there…… the staff is very friendly and welcoming and helpful and it really makes you feel at home!!!! Will be coming back in November after I finished my voluntary work here in Ambalangoda!

The first time I visited Colombo, Srilanka because there was a squash tournament and staying here was very satisfying. The service is friendly and good from the reception to the cleaning service. The room is clean, spacious and comfortable. There is a balcony facing the swimming pool and sea. Every day I can see the sunrise and sunset from the window 😍 The breakfast provided is also diverse with Sri Lankan specialties. Delicious. Some can enter the tongues of Indonesians. I like dhal wadi, prata, boiled manioc, fish curry and a kind of chili sauce made from coconut

The breakfast was very good, there was a good variety of food. The location is good.

There should be a lot of improvement in the overall building, as it did not smell good, there was mould in the bathrooms, the curtains were dirty, overall there should be an improvement to the building and it should be sound proof as there was a lot of disturbance of guests walking in the corridors and talking loudly. etc.,

Host our wedding event. there nothing that we can find as an error. everything from top to bottom has been exceptional. Staff service was in another level. need to mention shiroma the event in charge one of the best and the honest person i have ever dealt with. Need to mention saman who was worked till event end give us all the support which we need to make guest feel so comfortable. Arrived at the hotel and was greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to our room and this was when the issues began. - 1st room, filthy - literally wipe your finger across the surfaces and dust, toilet hadn't been cleaned, and holes in the bed linen. - 2nd room acceptable but the walls were so thin we could hear what sounded like the occupant next door coughing up their lung, to be fair couldn't really fault the hotel for the patron in the next room. - 3rd and final available room, which we had to accept was a twin… not ideal for a couple of a romantic getaway. It was clear that the website pictures were not taken recently as they did not do the hotel justice... not in a good way. Room service - we ordered 2 meals, one was the wrong meal completely, and the other meal, was meant to be lactose free (no milk, diary, butter products), however lets just say the supposedly lactose free Spaghetti Bolognese was a tad lighter and creamier than expected and unfortuatenly a few hours later medication was required. It was also problematic that there were some substantial communication barriers with the waiter, to such an extent that we had to request another member of staff from the front desk to attend and assist. Next to the hotel there is an active train line, which started very early in the morning (04:30) and there was a nightclub about 500m from the hotel. On one of the nights of the stay was open and was quite loud. I afraid of all the hotels/resorts where I've stayed, this is the first one which I would not recommend nor plan to visit again.

The stay has been comfortable and service has been very welcoming. We were assisted well by all staff who were friendly and would attend to anything we required. The F&B manager Roshan (Leo) was very accomodating and friendly also which gives a great customer experience.

I am currently staying in Room 220. There is a strong, unpleasant smell in the room, and it feels very old and poorly maintained. I checked a few other rooms as well, and all of them have a weird odor. The condition is not up to the mark, and the rooms clearly need renovation. It would be better if you could shift my stay to a different hotel, if that option is available. Thank you.

We followed the reviews on Google and were totally misled. Unfortunately we discovered that the hotel staff was using clients names and writing reviews as though the client wrote same. Worse still, they would give themselves 5 stars. This is not possible, because the hotel is run down, the room we had, was so outdated in respect of furnishings. The aircon was dripping water, the bathroom needs emergency cleaning and the cupboard holding the sink left much to be desired. The headboard veneer was bulging in places and the cupboard could not be opened for fear of it falling onto you. The kettle left one wondering about the general state of cleanliness at the establishment. The dining area carpet seemed to have not been cleaned in ages. The corridors lack ventilation. Overall I would give this hotel 1 out of 5.

The hotel was a dump. Pool furniture broken, dirty, stained and torn. Pool towels dirty, stained torn & frayed. Shower filthy Curtain ribs broken. Air con units very rusty, leaking and noisy Trains going past all night honking their horns so no sleep. The photos of the hotel rooms etc were just lies. They were absolutely nothing like the real rooms. The hotel and Pool looked like it was derelict.

This hotel is a complete dump 1/2 star at best - certainly not 3 stars Rooms were dirty and stained, shower was filthy, aircon was rusty and noisy, curtain rails were broken. The pool was very nice but the sun beds were broken and stained. The covers were ripped and torn and the pool side towels were faded, torn and frayed. There were trains going past all night honking their horns so no sleep either. The photos of the rooms are false and look nothing like the real rooms. We left after 2 days of a 10 day booking

Spend the days with verry delicious foods and the friendly staff who served us very professionally. Need to renovate the rooms and the entire property to attract more and more guests. I strongly recommend Berjaya hotel is a place to relax while you are enjoying the quality sapid meals.

Housekeeping manager Mr Manoj Chathuranga did a good job and managed roomcleaning and commodation very well.

There should be a chairman who is checking always inside and outside the hotel, restaurant, rooms etc The owners are in responsibilty for investing money in renovation ! Guests like this hotel. It should not come down and damaging.

The pool but the pool bar not manned or equipped. The garden well kept. Good laundry service.

The standard of cleaning and general maintenance needs attention. The whole place needs painting, it really did look shabby. The jacuzzi not working and overgrown. Pool side lunch took over 1 hour to arrive, when it did, wrong order. Tablecloths poolside dirty need washing. Kept awake by trains!! Tv not working fridge not checked and switched on.

We had a gala dinner for our Singaporean 20 PAX group and we noticed the service was amazing by beach restaurant staff Kumara and team. They have tailor make the even considering every detail of the event. Great guys Berjaya Ceylon Expeditions Travels Sri Lanka

The staff were all friendly hospitable and helpful. The property unfortunately needs some tender loving care as its very tired on the whole.

The ac was leeking the last two days of stay. Did not like when the finished food plates were put on the floor of the walking passage even cats came and ate the remaining food on the same food plate. Use more air freshners to the bath rooms
