Eclairage des chambres impersonnel et trop criard. Propreté des WC à revoir (traces noires en fond du cuvette)... Une vasque bouchée... Globalement, cet hôtel est magnifique mais mériterait des travaux de rénovation pour arriver aux standards 4 étoiles.

ABSOLUTELY FILTHY!!! What looks like faeces on the carpet lights that don’t work broken toilet flush blood on curtains and very unhelpful and RUDE manager!!! Looks good on booking.com photos but in reality it’s best to completely avoid and if you do stay and have a problem seek help from Matthis as he is calm reasonable and friendly and did his best to help us when we had no choice but to cancel our booking leaving us without a hotel in a city we didn’t know when we arrived due to the issues. The manager Fanny said we were being difficult and a problem and if it were her she would except the room and get on and have a “good time” she was so rude it left me in tears! She went home rather then stay and resolve the issue wouldn’t give us an immediate refund to rebook accommodation somewhere else that night was dishonest about the cancellation process with booking.com and the list goes on we don’t feel she is management material!

Reviewed Sep 8, 2026Beautiful typically French chic' type hotel (but not stuffy!) Full of character. Garden was a tranquil oasis and it was a treat to take the lovely breakfast in the garden. Lovely room and escalator useful as I had hurt my leg. It was a 15 minute walk to the old harbour area, and the market area with restaurants was even closer. Car park not far. Staff always pleasant and attentive, particularly the young man on reception when we arrived on the Monday evening.
A fridge in the room would have been nice perhaps.

Wir hatten eine Suite für drei Erwachsende gebucht, musstren aber egen technischer Problene me ein etwas beengtes Zimmer mit Doppelbett und Schlafcouch nehmen. Das war nicht das wir gewollt und bezahlt hatten

Das Hotel verfügt nicht über eigene Parkmöglichkeiten, man wird auf öffentliche Parkplätze verwiesen, das war dort früher anders, man konnte dort, direkt neben dem Hotel, in einem privaten Parkhaus, das nachts verschlossen war, parken.

Het ontbijt was prima maar de keuze in eieren viel tegen. Alleen roer eieren. Ik vroeg een gekookt ei maar die was bijna niet gekookt en loei heet dus niet in koud water gelegd en het velletje kreeg je er niet af. Dus dat was jammer.

Teníamos una suite q daba al jardín. La cana comodisima. El servicio de bar cocina cierra pronto. A las mascotas les dejan agua y chuches. Un buena experiencia.

We kregen een standaard kamer op het gelijkvloers toegewezen (naar het schijnt zijn dit de standaard kamers voor booking.com); de laatste in de gang naasr de buitendeur voor het personeel en rechttegenover de kamer met het vuilgoed. De kamer geeft uit op de Place du Verdun, heeft 1 heel groot raam (de lengte van de kamer, het was een echte vitrine) en er staat een parkeermeter net aan de zijkant van het raam. Dit betekent dat je het raam niet kan openzetten want dan zit je echt open en bloot voor iedereen die er langsloopt. Je kan 's avonds ook het licht niet aanleggen zonder de gordijnen te sluiten. Wij voelden er ons echt 'opgesloten'. De kamer had ook een onpraktische indeling. Hebben dit 's anderendaags gemeld aan de receptie en aangezien wij er 5 nachten geboekt hadden kregen we een kamer op het 2e verdiep. Wat een verademing! Een kleiner raam en veel gerieflijker. We zijn het personeel dankbaar dat ze dit hebben willen regelen!

Cuando llegamosc el aire acondiconado no funcionaba, nos quejamos y no nos hicieron ni caso. La habitación estaba a pie de calle, por lo que esta situación nos obligó, debido al calor, a tener la ventana abierta a pie de calle, sin intimidad ni seguridad. El personal no nos hizo ni caso, aunque cuando nos fuimos la manager tuvo el detalle de devolvernos una parte del precio, pero no sé trataba de pagar menos sino de estar bien.

Odeurs de canalisations très fortes à notre arrivée dans la chambre. Le lendemain, le nécessaire a été fait et nous avons pu poursuivre notre séjour dans de bonnes conditions.

Es war sehr erfreulich, dass unser Zimmers 104 über einen Balkon verfügte. Besonders möchten wir die freundliche Zugewandtheit aller Mitarbeiter des Hauses hervorheben. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

Reviewed Aug 12, 2026Es hat einen grossen, ruhigen, lauschigen, begrünten Innenhof. Man kann dort frühstücken oder am Abend einen Drink geniessen oder etwas Kleines essen. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig und stilvoll. Die Innenstadt ist zu Fuss gut erreichbar.
Das Hotel hat keine eigenen Parkplätze, es gibt aber in der Nähe einen öffentlichen Parkplatz und ein Parkhaus.

Localisation très centrale pour visiter La Rochelle à pied, et proche des transports en commun (bus) à la Place de Verdun, pour se déplacer très facilement. Personnel très gentil et serviable !
La présence d'un frigo dans la chambre serait mieux, et/ou une fontaine d'eau fraiche à disposition à chaque étage. La terrasse pour prendre le petit déjeuner dehors devrait être une zone non-fumeur. Ce serait plus facile de ne pas devoir se reconnecter au wifi lors de chaque retour en chambre et (un détail) il manque des chaines TV internationales, le choix est limité.

Reviewed Aug 9, 2026Wir hatten eine Suite mit eigener Terrasse, es war sehr komfortabel. Die Betten waren sehr bequem. Der Außenbereich war sehr ruhig und hübsch angelegt. Es waren ca. 800 m zum alten Hafen durch die hübsche Altstadt. Für uns ist das Hotel Le Champlain sehr empfehlenswert.
Das Frühstück war insgesamt sehr gut und reichhaltig, allerdings hätte es etwas abwechslungsreicher sein können.

We didn't receive our early morning alarm call as requested, but whilst eating breakfast, the member of staff came to personally apologise, which was good. Had I have not set my alarm on my phone though, we wouldn't have woken up in time to get our friends to the airport.

L’établissement accepte les chiens malheureusement ces derniers sont laissés seul dans les chambres une grande partie de la nuit et ils ne cessent pas d’aboyer !!!! Difficile de trouver le sommeil

Reviewed Aug 6, 2026Een grote, mooi ingerichte kamer met een comfortabel groot bed. Aan de rand van het centrum op loopafstand van alles. Mooie binnentuin. Erg vriendelijke medewerkers. Parkeerplaats vlakbij het hotel.
Badkamer was wel wat gedateerd en veel aanslag in de toiletpot. De lift is erg klein. Dit terwijl alles juist heel groots is in het hotel.

Reviewed Aug 5, 2026Die Lage etwas abseits vom Trubel, aber trotzdem sehr zentral, gute Parkmöglichkeiten in der Nähe. Das Gebäude ist wunderschön, die Zimmer ebenfalls sehr schön eingerichtet, super Betten. Das Personal ist ausnehmend freundlich und entgegenkommend. Wir empfehlen dieses Hotel sehr!

Reviewed Aug 2, 2026Beautiful hotel with a quiet garden in the middle of La Rochelle with parking nearby. Comfortable beds and spacious bedrooms serviced every day. Excellent breakfast. Charming staff. And a light supper on offer if required. One of the nights we were there they had a jazz duet playing in the garden.

Reviewed Jul 17, 2026Wonderful stay. Had to reschedule due to snow in January but the hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful…..and even got an upgrade. Fabulous building, super location. Clean, tidy, comfy bed & lovely breakfast on the terrace. Excellent stay…..highly recommend.

Reviewed Jul 15, 2026L’accueil, l’emplacement, le parking à coté c’était super. Dommage d’avoir eu une chambre au Rez de chaussée. Les gens qui passaient dans rue avait une vue sur notre intimité
Dans la douche à l’italienne de la chambre il n’y avait pas la raclette pour nettoyer l’eau . Celle ci stagnait, et quand on retourne dans la salle de bain 2h après c’est chiant parce qu’on a toujours les pieds mouillés

Reviewed Jul 14, 2026Gennemført klassisk indretning og følelsen af privat haveluksus midt i byen. Dejlig morgenmad og bar -dog kun til kl 22. Værelset godt klimatiseret i den strjende hede. Vi kommer gerne tilbage!

Reviewed Jul 13, 2026Bel établissement dans une magnifique demeure mais dommage que les chambres ne soient pas à la hauteur de nos attentes : moquette tachée, vétusté de la salle de bain (pommeau de douche qui ne tient plus, peinture qui s’effrite). Le petit-déjeuner est un grand plus dans cet établissement et le personnel très accueillant !

Reviewed Jul 12, 2026Albergo bellissimo all'interno di un palazzo d'epoca a 15 minuti a piedi del centro di La Rochelle. La camera con vista giardino è bellissima e ampia, con un letto comodo e silenziosa. Tutti i ragazzi dello staff sono stati molti gentili e disponibili.

Feelings it’s age now, very worn out room with poor design. Poor breakfast not worth the money. Cancelled breakfast for day two with one receptionist who said no problem, next day on check out they insisted that we paid for a breakfast we did not eat.

Reviewed Jul 8, 2026An excellent stay at Le Champlain in room 105. It was perfect for all our needs, especially having breakfast and drinks on the garden patio. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. A special mention to Julia at the bar who went above and beyond serving us. No hesitation in recommending this hotel.
