Provider-sourced guest reviews.
It was very clean and the staff was very attentive.
Overall the property was nice. If you love a jungle type of atmosphere this is tan excellent place for you to vacation.
Two of the restaurants were closed and the food other restaurants was trash. The can definitely improve on the taste and quality of the food.
The property is amazing and the staff was exceptional. They were the most friendly, helpful and fun group of people. We just loved every minute of our stay.
It took a while to figure out the best way to go from one place to another because they don’t have a ton of signs all over the property
Beautiful setting. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Lovely room and comfortable bed. Went to all the restaurants and no need to book. Top tip, men need trousers inside most of the restaurants. Bordeaux was our fave. Loved the pianist. First time in Mexico, such top class friendly service. Felt like home. Concierge in each block was a helpful touch. Marlon was brilliant. Really enjoyed the live entertainment in the bar especially the silent disco 🙌 Lovely touch in our room for our anniversary. Honestly couldn’t recommend it enough!

## Another Wonderful Anniversary at Secrets Akumal — With a Few Areas That Need Attention My wife and I recently spent six days at Secrets Akumal for our anniversary. This was our second time staying here, so obviously they did something right the first time! Overall, we loved our stay. Secrets Akumal remains one of our favorite resorts, and there is a lot that they do exceptionally well. There are, however, a few areas where we think some improvements could make an already great resort even better. ### The Staff — Outstanding Let me start with what may be Secrets Akumal's greatest asset: **the staff**. We absolutely love them. They aren't simply helpful—they are genuinely friendly and seem to have a sincere concern for the people staying at the resort. And when I say everyone is friendly, I mean **everyone**: maintenance workers, restaurant hostesses, servers, cooks, bartenders, beach staff, housekeeping, etc. As you walk around the property, people routinely greet you with "good morning," "good evening," or "good night." It sounds like a small thing, but it makes the resort feel incredibly welcoming. The beach staff deserves special recognition because they consistently go above and beyond. ### The Restaurants — Our Ranking This is where things become a little more hit-or-miss, so hopefully our unofficial restaurant rankings can help someone planning their trip. **1. Market Café — The Gold Standard** Market Café is easily the most dependable place to eat at the resort. Breakfast is excellent, and honestly, lunch is just as good. If you can't find something you want to eat at Market Café, there might be something wrong with you. 😂 The number of choices is incredible, and more importantly, the food is consistently good. I only wish they served dinner. **2. Bordeaux — Best Dinner** Bordeaux, the French restaurant, was our favorite dinner restaurant. The food is excellent. My biggest advice: **get there between 6:00 and 7:00 PM.** Once you get much later than that, expect to wait. **3. Seaside Grill — Great Lunch, Good Dinner** Seaside Grill is available to Preferred Club guests and serves both lunch and dinner. Lunch is excellent, with plenty of options. Dinner can also be very good, but once again, try to get there around 6:00 PM. Of all the restaurants we visited, Seaside seemed to have the longest waits later in the evening. One thing to watch: some dishes—particularly the steaks—can be extremely salty. If you're watching your sodium intake, I would specifically ask your server if the kitchen can use less salt. **4. Portofino — Good Italian, But Easy on the Salt!** Portofino is another very nice dinner option, and the same advice about getting there early applies. My only real complaint is the salt. Sometimes the food is so salty that I started wondering whether the chef was secretly trying to take a few guests out. 😂 Seriously though, if you're sensitive to salt, ask them to go light when ordering. **5. Oceana — A Welcome Change of Pace** Oceana is a great option when you've reached the point in your vacation where you can't look at another steak, burger, or plate of fries. Very good seafood and a nice change of pace. No complaints from us here. **6. El Patio — Quiet and Underrated** Ironically, the Mexican restaurant was probably the quietest restaurant we visited. It's very low-key, getting a table never seemed to be a hassle, and the Mexican food was good. Definitely worth visiting. **7. Himitsu — Unfortunately Our Least Favorite** We really wanted to like Himitsu. In fact, we tried it multiple times because we wanted to make sure our first experience wasn't simply an off night. Unfortunately, it was pretty consistent. The best way I can explain it is that everything tasted **Asian-ish**. The sushi was sushi-ish. The Pad Thai was Pad Thai-ish. The ramen was okay at best. Some sauces didn't seem to match the dishes they were served with, and everything just felt slightly off. If Secrets is going to offer Asian cuisine at this level of resort, I think the kitchen either needs chefs who specialize in those cuisines or more extensive training from chefs who do. There used to be a Mediterranean restaurant here that we visited during our previous stay, and unfortunately it is currently closed. That's a shame because the Mediterranean restaurant was **by far the best food we had during our previous trip**. We didn't discover it until our final night last time, and afterward we were kicking ourselves because, had we known how good it was, we would have eaten there several times. Hopefully it eventually returns. ### The Rooms — 99/100 Honestly, Secrets does hotel rooms better than almost anyone we've experienced. We've stayed at Secrets Akumal twice and have also stayed at Secrets in Cancun twice, and whoever handles the room design deserves credit. One of my absolute favorite features is the **private room-service compartment** built into the entrance of the room. If you order room service while your Do Not Disturb sign is on, the staff can place the food inside this compartment from the hallway. You then open a separate door from inside your room to retrieve it. It's simple, incredibly convenient, and something I now think every hotel should have. So why 99 instead of 100? **Bathroom lighting.** The bathroom itself is well lit, but the combination of the light placement and the way the mirrors protrude creates strange shadows across your face. It makes shaving, makeup, and other grooming surprisingly difficult. We've solved the problem by traveling with a small lighted mirror. Problem solved—but something Secrets could easily improve. ### The Beach — Beautiful, But the Sargassum Was Brutal The beach itself is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, during this trip the sargassum was really bad. And I want to emphasize: **this is not the resort's fault.** The amount washing ashore was incredible, and the smell could become pretty rough. To Secrets' credit, they were out there as early as 6:00 AM every morning trying to remove it. We're talking teams of workers, trucks, tractors and even heavy equipment. One day we watched those poor workers going from approximately 6:00 AM until 3:00 PM, and they still couldn't completely keep up with it. I do have one suggestion for the resort: invest in a proper **beach/sand rake machine**. We use them here in New York. They're essentially large mechanical rakes pulled behind a vehicle that collect debris while allowing most of the sand to fall back onto the beach. Watching employees try to tackle massive quantities of sargassum with small handheld rakes seemed incredibly inefficient, especially when conditions became severe. The workers were doing everything they could. They simply need better equipment. ### Entertainment — Secrets, We Need to Talk Okay, Secrets. This is where we have a problem. Let's start with the main theater. The theater itself is a fantastic space, and some of the performers are very talented. But the sound production desperately needs improvement. During one show, there was a **phenomenal female lead singer**, and you could barely hear her microphone. Guests were repeatedly motioning toward the sound booth. People were also trying to get the attention of someone controlling equipment from an iPad on the floor. Nothing changed. Eventually, even the singer herself stopped and motioned toward the booth asking them to turn her microphone up. Still nothing changed. It was incredibly frustrating. I know this sounds harsh, but Secrets either needs more experienced sound engineers or additional training for whoever is operating the audio and lighting equipment. You have talented performers and a beautiful theater. The production quality should match them. ### Silent Disco — So Much Fun... But Those Headphones We LOVE the Silent Disco. It's ridiculously fun. But good lord, **please thoroughly disinfect those headphones.** The mildew smell was BAD. You could smell some of them before they even reached your ears. Whatever cleaning process is currently being used isn't enough. They need a cleaning solution specifically designed to eliminate mildew and odor between uses, not simply a quick disinfectant spray. It's such a fun event, and this one issue makes it unnecessarily unpleasant. ### Poolside Food & Music Events — Great Idea We really enjoy the larger food-and-music events around the pools. The atmosphere is great, the food is fun, and the productions add something different to the week. Our only suggestion would be finding some way to bring the performances closer to the guests. The stages extend over the swimming pools, which looks impressive, but because they can only extend so far, the performers sometimes end up surprisingly far away from where most guests are seated. You can hear everything, but actually seeing the performance clearly can be difficult. ### Art/Street-Fair Events — Great Concept, More Variety Please We also really enjoy the evenings with art displays and vendors that have more of a street-fair atmosphere. It's another great concept. The entertainment during those events could use more variety, though. For example, having one rock violinist perform for nearly an hour becomes repetitive regardless of how talented the performer is. It would be much more entertaining to rotate several acts throughout the event—a violinist, guitarist, singers, another instrumentalist, etc. That would keep the atmosphere changing throughout the evening. ### Overall Despite some of the criticism above, **we had another wonderful stay at Secrets Akumal and would absolutely return.** The property is beautiful, the rooms are excellent, the beach is gorgeous, there are plenty of food choices, and most importantly, the staff is exceptional. Some of our complaints are also relatively easy fixes: better sound engineering, more thorough headphone sanitation, additional entertainment variety, improved beach-cleaning equipment and perhaps a little less enthusiasm from whoever is holding the salt shaker in a few of the kitchens. 😂 We came here to celebrate our anniversary, and once again Secrets Akumal gave us a memorable vacation. Hopefully this ridiculously detailed review helps someone planning theirs!
It was so good we didn't want to leave, A 5 stars experience from the moment they welcomed us at the resort, to the time we left, on every single level. Stayed there for a week for our anniversary, had the best time ever. Smiling, polite & very friendly staff, The resort is thoughtfully designed, all green, jungle, "nature" vibe. Rooms are nice and spacious, Housekeeping does cleaning + turn down services , every day. Cleanliness : Very very clean resort Food : Different great options , very good quality. The romantic diner on the beach was a a highlight of our trip, food was just out of this word, soo good ! Entertainment : During the day : From the bike tour around the resort to the different pool activities, tennis court & beach volleyball, there is always something great to do if you are an active person. Had a blast ! At night : Live music, artistic shows at the theater, karaoke nights & night club on site. The spa : A bit pricey but worth it. The whole experience with hydrotherapy & massages leaves you relaxed & re-energized. The best part throughout our stay ? The staff of the resort, just unbelievable of friendly and kind they were. A big shout-out to them, especially: (Entertainment team) : Arantxa, Antony, Oscar, Hugo, Alain, Carlos, Raul & Geovani. Always sending great vibes and high energies. Thanks for keeping us active in a fun way & for our genuine conversation ! Our concierge : Alexandra , always thoughtful. Our masseuses at the spa : Miriam, Patricia & Nayeli , best massages ever. Other staff : Ricardo & America , always willing to assist. And all the others whom I don't remember the name but who truly made us feel at home. Secrets Akumal...keep up with the great work. I left impressed , can't wait to come back !
Fabulous property in a great location with a good range of pools and restaurants
Exceptional Stay with Magical Vibes – Highly Recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Our stay at this hotel was absolutely incredible and far exceeded our expectations. The experience was so wonderful that my family didn't even want to leave the property to go touring! The Highlights:The Atmosphere: The resort setup is unique, featuring multiple buildings surrounded by lush vegetation and pools. Instead of a standard lobby, open-air halls and pasillos connect the property, and this is where they host a magical, immersive Mexican market experience. The Food: Every meal was exceptional, from the casual dining spots to the main restaurants. The Staff: The entire team was amazing. Our concierge, in particular, was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed. Areas for Improvement:The only minor critique involves the swim-up pool features. The water in the swim-up area could use a bit more frequent cleaning. Additionally, the pool lights turn off around 9:00 PM. It would be a huge improvement if they stayed on later, as being able to swim at night is the main reason to pay extra for a swim-up room! Overall, we had a beautiful vacation and we already cannot wait to go back.
We just got back from a 5 night stay for our anniversary - in short, this stay was incredible!! The atmosphere is so relaxing but fun, we had a blast hanging out by the pool each day taking part in the activities. We especially loved water aerobics and pool volleyball - thank you Alan and Malina!! The outdoor poolside buffets were great, the food was wonderful and loved the variety. We were lucky to grab a reservation for hibachi as well, which was our most fun dinner. The room was spacious and clean, and our concierge Karen left surprises almost daily for us in celebration of our anniversary! Overall, we can’t wait to visit this property again in the future!!!!
We’ve stayed at several Secrets resorts, and Secrets Akumal is definitely one of our favourites. We spent most of our time around the Relax Pool, which was exactly what we wanted from this holiday. It’s peaceful, beautifully maintained and has a genuinely relaxing atmosphere, while still being close enough to the restaurants, bars and other facilities that everything is easily accessible. For us, it was the perfect balance between having plenty going on around the resort and being able to escape somewhere quiet during the day. The whole resort is beautifully landscaped and the service was consistently excellent. Staff were friendly, attentive and genuinely seemed to want to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The food was also very good, with plenty of choice across the restaurants and bars. We also upgraded to Preferred Club, which worked particularly well for us because of the more central location of our room and the additional breakfast options. We didn’t spend much time on the beach, so being well placed for the pools, restaurants and other facilities was more important to us. The atmosphere throughout the resort was relaxed and sophisticated, and we never felt crowded despite the size of the property. It’s a great choice if you want an adults-only resort where you can be as active or as lazy as you like! Overall, a fantastic week at Secrets Akumal. We’d happily return and would particularly recommend the Relax Pool if, like us, you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to spend most of your days.
Secrets is beautiful. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary here and just loved it. The food was amazing, the Saturday night show and the buffet were exceptional. The activity staff was alot of fun. We did archery with Melanie, she was so sweet and funny. I actually hit something! Excellent instructor. We did snorkeling with Oscar and Arie, that is a tough job caring for us amateurs. They were both patient with our entire group who did need some help finishing the entire activity. We also did water basketball with Melanie, again she was great, and water aerobics with Alan. Alan was also a lot of fun and very energetic. Fantastic activity staff. They made our visit so much fun. A big thank you too our concierge Jose, Metz and Maximillo (loved the Kobe tattoo) they were great as well in building 4. The pool staff Diego, Karla, Isaac and Jose were also amazing. Thanks to all, for making our stay wonderful.
My girlfriend and I just returned from Secrets Akumal and had an incredible experience. The rooms and grounds are absolutely stunning, the food and drinks were great, and the entire property feels every bit like the high-end resort we were hoping for. But as beautiful as the resort is, what really made our trip memorable were the people. The level of service was remarkable throughout our stay. From the groundskeepers and wait staff to the pool concierges, spa staff, bartenders, and everyone else we encountered, people consistently went out of their way to make us feel special. One small example really captures the culture of the resort. On several occasions we found ourselves trying to figure out how to get somewhere on the property. It did not seem to matter who we asked or what their role was. Instead of simply pointing us in the right direction, they would stop what they were doing and personally walk us where we needed to go. On a few occasions, they even walked us back afterward. That level of hospitality was something we noticed again and again throughout the week. Our concierge, Monica, was an especially important part of our experience. On our very first day, we realized we had lost a passport, which is obviously not how you want to begin a vacation in Mexico. Monica immediately stepped in to help. What impressed us most was not simply that she helped solve the problem, but the way she handled it. She stayed calm, caring, and reassuring throughout the entire situation. At no point did she make us feel embarrassed for losing it or make an already stressful situation feel worse. She started making calls, including contacting the airport and another number that ultimately helped locate the passport. That same evening, Monica called us to let us know it had been found. She then helped us determine the best way to retrieve it, recommended renting a car, and coordinated the rental for us so we could go pick it up. That alone would have made her memorable, but Monica continued to take care of us for the rest of our stay. Every day she greeted us with a warm smile, asked how things were going, and made sure we had what we needed. She made us feel genuinely cared for rather than simply being another couple staying at the resort. That feeling extended well beyond Monica. There is clearly a service culture at Secrets Akumal that is difficult to capture in pictures or a list of amenities. The property itself is gorgeous, but it was the kindness, attentiveness, and genuine warmth of the staff that turned a beautiful resort into an exceptional vacation. We left feeling like we had been truly taken care of, and that is probably the highest compliment we can give. Thank you to Monica and the entire Secrets Akumal team for making our trip so memorable. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely recommend Secrets Akumal.
One thing to consider... My wife and I just celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with 6 nights at Secrets Akumal in Mexico. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was hardworking, friendly, and gracious. Monica, our concierge, was wonderful. Alejandro, the beach concierge was exceptional. This man works so hard everyday to see how you are doing and always offers a warm good morning. Francisco, our beach waiter also needs to be mentioned. A fine gentleman who is great at his job. Further, Eduardo, at the Sugar Reef Restaurant Bar is a wise man who you should have a conversation with! Lastly, Jorge, at the Lobby Bar, make the greatest Rum and Coke that you will ever drink. Diego, at the Market Cafe, could not have been more attentive. (He is often working the morning patio - try it, listening to the birds and seeing the iguanas sure beats having breakfast at the air-conditioned tables.) The food was exceptional at the restaurants, buffets, and pool side lunch setups. The facility, for the most part, was divine. As it is 10 years old, it is showing the expected wear and tear, but nothing off putting. We did upgrade to Preferred club - it was worth it I suppose. The lounge was convenient on check-in and check-out. My only complaint would be the stark cafeteria-like lighting. All the restaurants and common spaces set a tone with nice ambient lighting. Not so in the Preferred Lounge. Carlos, the bartender is awesome, and makes up for the office like feel of the place with his sharp wit and gregarious personality. The one thing to consider, would be the glass shower-type door on the water closet (toilet room). If privacy is a concern of yours when using the facilities, this setup will not suffice. Even with the bathroom door closed, the large jet-tub wall is only a sheer curtain. This opening should be set as a pair of shutters or bi-fold doors. For my wife and I, who have been through every life stage and event together from childbirth to surgery recovery to every kind of medical prep and procedure, this was not a problem. However, if you are in the 'mystique ' phase of a blossoming romance, there is no real buffer... Having said all that, we had a great time, enjoyed the beach, and met some great people.
If you are looking for a destination resort that has a fantastic capacity to meet or exceed your expectations, the Akumal Riviera Maya is THE PLACE. The property location on the Gulf and the facility is a big plus as the hub for your getaway. The staff of the resort are "can do" personalities that want you to have the time of your life. Having travelled the world over for the past 40 years we can say that this resort is in the Top 3 of all of our destinations.
My review from our first stay: Preferred Club swim up King suite, building 4, staying 5 nights in early August 2026. It was awesome! This trip was booked entirely with points and to celebrate our 20th. We'd never tried a swim up suite and our only exposure to them was when we stayed at Hyatt Zilara in Cancun (we didn't stay in that room type, we just saw them and got us thinking ahead). So this review is somewhat a comparison to that Zilara resort (also an AI, Adult Only resort). As you all know, this resort is like a jungle! It's so well managed and perfectly groomed. The grounds are stunning. There's loads of privacy and thoughtful nooks and crannies all over for increasing feelings of intimacy. But what this also does is, well, take away the feeling you're at the beach. You really don't see the beach unless you purposefully go to the beach. And at that, there isn't much beach. What beach there is is filled with beach chairs or bali beds. The sand is lovely, white, soft. Zilara, on the other hand, has unobstructed views of the ocean and beach from nearly every inch of the resort. But the beach is also the sad part, here - but I want to stress this didn't really impact our trip and I was very educated about the sargassum situation months in advance. We knew what we were going to find there. Each day there were different amounts washing ashore. I didn't go to see the beach daily, so maybe there was a day where there wasn't any accumulation? But the days I did walk to the shore, there were a few feet of it. They were raking it up and even using trucks, dump trucks to shuttle this stuff away. I was curious if I could smell it from the any of the pools? Nope! It was only a visual and tactile impact. It's floating everywhere and it tickles your legs. It makes the water murky. It totally took away any inspiration I had to snorkel on site. I'm a diver, too, and know pristine waters....this was not pristine. We did not choose this resort because of its advertised snorkeling; we went for many other reasons, too. Again, we knew what it'd be like and my expectations were met: no snorkeling or swimming for us. The food was pretty darn good! Room service was not, but we feel that that is truly a hard ask anyway. No probs with that choice. AIs are hit or miss with food and this was a reason for this reservation. Food didn't disappoint! The main pools were very very warm. Plenty of chairs to choose from, but honestly, we found ourselves loving the peace and quiet of our swim up pool - which was also a cooler temp. I think we used a main pool for 30min total. We opted for our swim up suite and when we needed a refill, we'd walk 30s to the preferred bar and get another cocktail (insulated cups FTW!!!). Our neighbors were clearly more social than we were, as we only saw our neighbors once, for like 45 min. Other than that, the hours and hours we were in our pool, we were alone. Jose, our concierge, was a lovely and wonderful human. He helped arrange a taxi to take us to the marina where I'd reserved a private catamaran on our anniversary (Tulum Charters - I highly recommend!). He helped coordinate some medical support we needed. He honored us with special touches for our anniversary. He was super responsive on WhatsApp. Having him on our team was a huge plus! It was a great choice for our celebration! The food + private swim up suite + preferred club + personal service = we are a happy couple!
What a PARADISE!!! Royal treatment by the most amazing staff…. Too many names to mention but we would like to include the ones that truly touched our hearts “Market Cafe” - Restaurant Head host, Eliazar Wait staff: Edmundo, Maricela, Diego, Franklin… PS you can have anything your heart desires at this place and the quality of food is exceptional “Oceana” - Restaurant Captain Luis Wait staff; Israel, Lucero and Baltazar Outstanding sea food and first class service… We spent a lot of time at the quiet pool (which we highly recommend) and the pool supervisor Alonzo was simply the BEST! And last but not least, our building 9 concierge, Carine was a breath of fresh air….
Food and service was outstanding, definitely the best of all the all inclusive I’ve ever been to. Complementary kayaking and wine tasting was a standout.
We had the most amazing few days at Secrets Akumal. We rented a car and drove from Cancun as we were going somewhere else afterwards. It was an easy drive and a little over an hour from Cancun. The biggest issue was the sargasso on the beach but the resort did a good job of clearing it and we were able to get in the water and enjoy the beach. A bit further down the beach from the resort where we went snorkeling it was much worse. Everything about the resort was pretty perfect. The setting is gorgeous with tropical foliage everywhere. It was easy to get lost but by day three we pretty much figured it out! I loved finding iguanas and a few agouti. Our room was amazing. We had a preferred ocean view room on the 3rd floor of building 3. We loved the bed, the big shower, and the in room jacuzzi tub. We had a tub on the balcony but ended up not using it as it didn’t seem super comfortable. We used our mini bar and room service. It was always great. We ordered breakfast from room service breakfast one morning and enjoyed it on our balcony. The food was mostly very good. There were always plenty of options. Our overall favorite meal was probably Portofino. We enjoyed octopus carpaccio, lobster and prawn agnolotti and crispy pork pancetta. The coconut shrimp at Oceana was also a standout. The one big miss was the pulled pork sandwich we ordered from Barefoot grill on the beach, but we just didn’t eat it and got something else. We also enjoyed several of the bars. Manatees was great in the pool. The lobby bar was a great spot for before dinner drinks and entertainment. We also liked the beach bar and the swings. Mango margaritas were excellent but I wish I’d discovered them before the last day. We used the club lounge only a few times but the drinks and snacks there were very good. We had amazing experiences with all the staff we came into contact with. We had a great time with the entertainment staff- Ari (or Ari, Ari Ari) was a great guide for both our snorkeling and kayaking experiences and Alan and Erik were great as well. We were able to see a turtle while snorkeling as well as fish, some of a coral reef, and stingrays. Our concierge Karen was very helpful and answered every question we had. Every server, bar tender, check in staff, etc went above and beyond our expectations. We chose to participate in the time share/club/whatever presentation while we were there because we were offered two free massages and $100 in resort credit. The salesperson (Milos) with us was very good and personable but we did not enjoy the other people on the office area as they were more pushy. We were told it would be 1.5 hours and it was a bit over 2, but we did enjoy the reward at the end of it 😂. We had massages- we booked them for separate rooms but they ended up having them in the same room which was very nice. We also did the hydrotherapy with Axel and he did a great job leading us through the experience. We were able to stay on property after check out (check out is at 12, but guests can stay on property and use amenities until 5) and enjoy a little more beach and pool time. We would absolutely come back to Secrets Akumal. It was a fantastic experience all around. We were only there 3 nights and would have loved to stay at least 5 to experience everything.
What an amazing stay! This property is well maintained and it smelled amazing! The food and drinks were wonderful. The staff is absolutely phenomenal! I will be returning.
Secrets Akumal Resort provides excellence across the board, including personalised service from resort staff, a wide variety of buffet and fine dining experiences, idyllic location with ample opportunities to explore the local sea life and other excursions that Mexico has to offer. We spent our honeymoon stress free and in luxury, with so many supposed along the way - resort staff made sure to go the extra mile to make our trip feel special. Examples of this include: putting out a ‘just married’ banner on our room door, providing prosecco and ice to our room, putting our petals and preparing a delightful jacuzzi with bubbles to enjoy on our last full day at the resort. All of these details were unprompted and a surprise to us, showing that staff had us in mind without any worry on our end. If you have the means, you will not be disappointed by Secrets Akumal for a special occasion or holiday treat. Thank you Secrets Akumal for making our honeymoon special!
My husband and I had the absolute best vacation. The room was spacious with a wonderful view of the resort and the ocean. The multiple pools and ocean side cabanas provided plenty of options for relaxation and/or entertainment. There are multiple restaurants offering significant food choices. However, the staff were by far the most fantastic part of the trip. Everyone we encountered were polite, friendly and generally anticipated your needs before you ever had to ask. Jose (concierge), Alberto (seaside), Antonio (pool), Diego (pool), Eric and Oscar (turtle tour), and Antony (bike tour) were exceptional. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip. We would highly recommend this resort.
This place is awesome! Top notch! Everyone is so friendly and caring. They seem legit interested in you. Facilities are fantastic and well kept up. Food is really good. Probably the best at an all -Inclusive I’ve had. Excellent wine service, excellent drink service with some high end liquors. The beach is nice but the Sargassum is horrible so it ruins your beach experience. Thank goodness the pools are badass! Basically butler service with your own concierge in your building. We liked it enough we bought in! Good luck and enjoy, Secrets won’t be a secret for long!
What a fantastic hotel. Delicious food and really fun activities throughout the day. Thanks to Oscar, Melina, and Mario for the fun activities. The bike tour and the snorkel tour were fantastic; we saw huge sea turtles and stingrays.
Huge disappointment, Arrived and was assigned a room in building 9 opened the door to smell of mould and damp , immediately went to guest services and complained, they switched our room to temporary one for the night , we didn’t un pack just took a shower had some dinner and wanted to go sleep after a long 2 flights .i was told we would moved the next day by noon but nobody contacted us I called twice to guest services and was told the room wasn’t ready !!! Finally got in the room around 3pm despite endless chasing , I found this service not great at all I was dealing Oscar on this matter , The rooms are not great need a major renovation they dark & still smelled damp , the beds are uncomfortable and the linens are worn out it’s not 5 star luxury at all, most nights I felt the linens to feel damp , we couldn’t dry swimwear for days in that room . Moving on to restaurants The non reservation??? The process is ridiculous you mostly have to wait 45mins to an hour to get a table we tried 6:30 - 7pm most days and still couldn’t get in to any restaurant immediately. I notice a few people in preferred club rooms getting ushered in before us when we were waiting patiently. French & Italian was excellent Seaside you need change your supplier for the steak I ordered rib eye medium it was so full of fat I couldn’t cut or eat it . The Asian restaurant was hit and miss . The coffee shop was excellent and the lady on night shift was just wonderful . The pool staff friendly helpful and shout out to Freddy at the bar he was superb. The hotel looks pleasing to eye the and the grounds are maintained, but the downside is beach and the seaweed and plastic loungers you get for room classification you choose , major let down the beach . Pools well another disaster my son had to visit the doctor on site he picked up a nasty ear infection , from the relaxing pool . Lastly the attraction of guests to this resort I experience fights outside our building 7 at midnight we had to call security, and the following day walked passed a young girl being wheeled in by security in a chair and being sick in the plantation area of block 7 , really classy !!! We did complain and was given a Bali bed for the day as good will gesture , and Hyatt members points , but the money I paid I was not impressed at all. I will not be returning ever again !!
The resort was beautiful and very well maintained. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The pools were fantastic and the poolside service was excellent with drinks, ice cream, tropical fruit and sunglasses cleaning services. The entertainment throughout the day was great. Alan, Sinia and Anthony all did an excellent job in adding to the experience and making everything engaging. The kayaking and wine tasting activities stood out as two of our favorites. Our concierge, Annie, did a great job of helping us making dinner reservations and ensuring we had everything we needed during our stay.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is the nicest resort I have been to. The resort is gorgeous! The rooms are beautiful and each building has their own concierge that is happy to help in any way. Karen was our concierge, and she helped with everything from dinner reservations to blowing up our rafts, to room service. The food was amazing. The people working there made the whole experience even better. Our pool bartenders, Freddi and Bernardo, work so hard. They really take care of their guests. They knew us and what we liked after our first visit to the bar. Antony in activities was fun! He was very informative and helpful all while having blast doing his job. Carlos in activities was the absolute best! He stopped to talk to us and make sure everything was good and if we needed anything every time we saw him. He really listened to concerns from other visitors and took the time to help them. He taught me some Spanish while making it a fun conversation. He works hard and you can tell her really cares about the guests. Always some great activities going on day and evening. The people worked hard to clear the seaweed from the beach. Although there was a lot of seaweed, it was cleared everyday by mid morning. It will be hard for me to go to another resort after this one. This one is tough to beat.
All I can say is… WOW! 🤩🌴 Secrets Akumal completely exceeded every expectation I had. From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely top-notch, and the food was some of the best I've ever had at an all-inclusive resort! A special shout-out to Bernardo at the Manatee Swim-Up Bar! 🍹 He took care of my friends and me over multiple days, and every single time he greeted us with a huge smile and brought such a fun, welcoming energy. He truly went above and beyond to make every guest feel like they were on the best vacation ever. Thank you to the entire Secrets Akumal team for making this such an unforgettable trip. I can't wait to come back!
MARIO IS THE BEST IN ALL THE LAND!!!
Amazing resort. I've never seen more food in my life. Endless buffets for breakfast, lunch, and most dinners. Incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional staff. Shout outs to Marlon, our building concierge who helped make our 45th anniversary special. The entertainment staff is fun and full of energy. We had great experiences with Arantxa, Mario, Anthony, Melina, Sinai, and Alan. Seaside Grill waiter Willian was also above-and-beyond, as were all of the pool wait staff and all the bartenders, particularly Omar at Rendevous.
The service is absolutely top-tier and the food is just amazing. We spent out days laying by the pool and visiting the spa. Great trip!
This resort is a really outstanding one with perfect services. The resort staff members are extremely friendly ad customer orientated. There are many ala cart restaurants, bars without any limitation. You can eat at least 4 places your lunch, which is perfect
Secrets Akumal was the perfect mix of relaxation and fun. From the moment we arrived, you could tell the resort was well cared for and that everyone took pride in keeping it beautiful. Check-in was quick and easy, and the welcome team made us feel appreciated right away. The biggest reason we'd come back, though, is the staff. Every person we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and seemed to genuinely enjoy making sure guests had a great experience. Our concierge, Jose, was always available to answer questions and helped us change a previous reservation quickly and without any hassle. There was a hiccup with the app they use to share all the daily information but Jose and the Customer Service team stepped up to share all the information for the day directly with us on WhatsApp. The entertainment team was one of the highlights of our trip. Everyone brought so much energy to the activities and events, and they made it easy for people to jump in and have fun. Allan, Tony, and Mina especially stood out with their contagious upbeat energy, but the entire team did an incredible job creating such a fun atmosphere. The pool service was also unmatched. We never had to wait long for drinks, and the servers were constantly checking in without ever being intrusive. They were attentive, friendly, and helped make relaxing by the pool even better. Overall, this was one of the best all-inclusive experiences we've had, and it's the amazing staff that made it so memorable. We can't wait to come back.
We recently returned from our 7th stay at Secrets Akumal since 2019. That alone should tell you how much we have loved this resort over the years. It is truly a beautiful property with outstanding service and excellent food. Unfortunately, this visit will likely be our last, and that is disappointing for us to say. After being away for nearly two years, we were so excited to return. We booked a Preferred Ocean View room because we had enjoyed this room category on previous visits, with beautiful views of the resort and the Caribbean. This time, however, our room overlooked the mechanical equipment of the neighboring resort. While we could technically see the ocean, the view was nowhere near what we had experienced in the past. As repeat guests who have shown so much loyalty to this resort, we were disappointed to receive this particular room. The other challenge was the sargassum. We knew there was a possibility we would encounter seaweed, but it was still sad to see the normally stunning turquoise water turned brown. The resort staff worked incredibly hard every day to keep the beach as clean as possible, and they deserve recognition for their efforts. One of the reasons we return to Akumal is the incredible snorkeling right off the beach. On previous trips we saw sea turtles every day, but during this seven-day stay we only saw turtles once. Despite those disappointments, there is still so much to love about Secrets Akumal. The resort grounds remain absolutely gorgeous. If you happen to get turned around while walking the property, don't be frustrated—take a moment to appreciate the lush tropical landscaping and jungle. It's breathtaking. The food on this trip was some of the best we've ever had here. We dined at Bordeaux twice. The cheese tray is a must, the French onion soup was excellent, the filet was perfectly prepared, and the crème brûlée was absolutely delicious. Rafael was our server, and he is one of the best we've ever had. We also visited Portofino twice, where we had both Diegos as our servers. They were fantastic. The agnolotti was amazing, and we also loved the arancini, lasagna, and tiramisu. Oceana was another favorite. Don't miss the coconut shrimp or the catch of the day. We also enjoyed dinner at Himitsu and Seaside, both of which were excellent. We continue to feel that Preferred Club is worth the upgrade. The Preferred Lounge, the easy check-in process, and the soaking tub on the balcony are all wonderful perks, but our favorite benefit is breakfast at Seaside. We always look forward to seeing Jose on each visit. He is warm, welcoming, and truly makes every morning special. Be sure to enjoy the pop-up lunches by the pool. They're a fun surprise and delicious. Although we usually spend most of our vacation at the beach, we found ourselves enjoying the pools much more this trip. The pool service was exceptional, and we never waited long for a drink. Finally, a special thank you to our concierge, Jose. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Secrets Akumal is still a beautiful resort with exceptional employees who clearly care about providing outstanding service. Unfortunately, the room assignment and the changes to the beach experience were significant enough that we don't see ourselves returning. That is a difficult decision after seven wonderful visits, but we hope this review helps future guests know both what makes this resort so special and why our experience this time was different.
The place wise is really nice super 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 people staff are very friendly and attentive Rooms are clean just avoid building 8 specially 8201 or this room in this area cause they always have party outside you could here it . But it’s ok we could still sleep . Value wise 10/10 cleanliness 10/10 Noise level 7/10 especially near in building 8 Service 20/10 Amenities 9/10
NOBODY is talking about all the animals at rodents at this resort! The vegetation in the last ten years since we have visited is almost unrecognizable! It truly is a jungle atmosphere which for most beautiful but for me I am a scaredy cat and when I hear things wrestling in the bushes my anxiety is high!! The iguanas have literally taken over pools and sidewalks! I’m so afraid of them jumping up on my lounge chair or sneaking under my chair that I stayed on the pool mostly. This is a deal breaker for me and the beach Unfortunatley was filled with seaweed. The saving grace was the customer service was amazing!
Incredible resort hotel. Amazing meals, drinks and service. Everything we read about it was true, one of the best places we’ve ever stayed.
Our stay at Secrets Akumal was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The food exceeded our expectations, with every restaurant offering delicious, high-quality meals and plenty of variety. The service was exceptional—every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay special. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and impeccably maintained. The lush landscaping, pristine pools, and stunning beachfront create a relaxing, tropical atmosphere that makes it hard to leave. Everything was clean, well cared for, and picture-perfect. If you’re looking for a resort with incredible dining, outstanding service, and breathtaking surroundings, Secrets Akumal is an excellent choice. We can’t wait to come back!
This resort exceeded expectations for us. The 5 star rating is well deserved. The food and drinks are top quality versus some other resorts we visited in the past. The grounds are immaculate and it’s extremely well maintained and clean. The cleanest resort we’ve experienced including both AI and non AI. But the staff really takes it to another level. Here are just a few we want to mention. Laedy our concierge Alexandro preferred beach Issac- pool concierge Salvador - pool waiter Israel waiter at Oceana Jesus( hope that’s correct, room service waiter building 2 mornings shift July 11-18) Israel - bar tender at swing beach bar. Oceana staff Seaside grill staff Maria- housekeeping Honestly we didn’t meet a bad staff member anywhere. We highly recommend Secrets Akumal . If you aren’t pleased with this resort.. I’m not sure it can happen.
I've only ever visited initially for business but always extend my stay so I can fully enjoy the facilities. I've stayed at a few other resorts around the world and this is so far my favorite.
It was amazing! We had a great time. Everyone was so nice and accommodating throughout our stay. We stayed in a Preferred Club Ocean View Suite, and it was absolutely worth it. The resort was beautiful, and everything—from the pre-arrival experience to our departure—was seamless and exceeded our expectations. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, first-class getaway.
We absolutely loved our time at Secrets Akumal! The property is so lush and beautiful, the staff is so kind and personable, and the entertainment is fantastic. A few shouts outs - the guys who led the music trivia, movie trivia, and water aerobics during the day - they were so fun and engaging; everyone involved in the entertainment at night - we loved all of the performances and were especially impressed with Abby during the Endless Show; and, our server, David, at Portofino provided impeccable service. As soon as we left, we started planning our next trip - thank you so much to all of the staff we interacted with as well as everyone working behind the scenes to make this place and our experience so amazing!
We are having amazing time with the staff Ari and Alan from entertainment team. Pool activities are amazing and morning stretching class is just what we need to start day! Antonio , pool concierge is wonderful to find us seating, clean towels, clean glasses and get us fishing trip at great price. Our building concierge in building 4, Jose is amazing to make site our every need is met. Bar staff in Preferred Club is outstanding!
Service was great, beach was a little small, but staff worked hard to keep it clean. Good snorkeling. Good pools, good food.
Our 17th trip to Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is complete, and once again we’re already counting down until our next visit. This trip was especially meaningful as we celebrated our 12-year wedding anniversary, and there is simply nowhere else we’d rather celebrate life’s milestones. People always ask us why we keep returning to the same resort. The answer is easy—it isn’t just the beautiful beach, amazing restaurants, luxurious rooms, or the breathtaking property. It’s the people. The staff at Secrets Akumal have become our family. Every visit feels like coming home, where we’re welcomed with genuine smiles, hugs, and friendships that have grown over the years. It’s no surprise that Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya was named the #1 Hotel in the World by TripAdvisor in 2025. Awards like that aren’t earned by beautiful views alone—they’re earned by the incredible people who make every guest feel valued. Every department works together to create an unforgettable experience, and it shows in every interaction. We want to recognize some of the amazing people who made this anniversary trip so memorable: A special thank you to Ana Bravo, Director of Sales, and Nicte Ha, Group Sales Assistant, for everything you do behind the scenes to make every visit exceptional. You are the reason we continue coming back. The Food & Beverage team is simply outstanding. Jorge Canul, Food & Beverage Manager, is one of the hardest-working people we’ve ever met. His leadership is evident throughout the resort, and he always takes the time to ensure guests are having an amazing experience. Thank you as well to Santiago for his dedication and hospitality. Our dining experiences were unforgettable thanks to Damien at Seaside, Antonio at El Patio, Marysol at Oceana and Market Café, Eliazar at Market Café, Josue at Himitsu, and Fernando with Room Service. Every meal was served with warmth, professionalism, and genuine care. Our days at the beach and pool were perfect thanks to Antonio at the Quiet Pool, Alejandro on the beach, Ricardo, our wonderful beach waiter, Agustin, Beach Concierge, Osuna, Pool Concierge, and Alejandro, Beach Concierge. A special thank you as well to Sharon for her attentive service around the pool and beach, Mario for keeping the drinks flowing as a fantastic bartender, and Cruz and Hector for always being there with great service and friendly smiles. They anticipated every need before we even had to ask and made every day relaxing and enjoyable. A heartfelt thank you goes to Metz, our past Building Concierge, who has truly become our adopted niece. She always greets us with the biggest smile and makes every stay feel like we’re visiting family. Thank you also to Leidy, Building 2 Concierge, for taking such wonderful care of us during our stay. You made our stay unforgettable. Both of these ladies take pride in their job and knowing the guests are taken care of. The Preferred Club team continues to be one of the highlights of every stay. Thank you to Fernanda, Preferred Club Manager, for leading such an exceptional team. Angel in the preferred club for always greeting us with a giant smile and helping with whatever we need. We also appreciate Miguel, preferred club bartender, for the awesome Hugo spritz, and Johana, whose attentive service always makes the Preferred Club or Lobby Bar feel like home. Finally, thank you to the incredible Spa team—Yasmin, Norma, and Jesus—for helping us relax during our amazing couples massage and making our anniversary celebration even more special. To everyone at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: thank you for another unforgettable vacation. After 17 visits, this resort isn’t just our favorite vacation destination—it’s our second home. The friendships we’ve built over the years mean more to us than words can express. We’ll be back… because family always comes home.
This has been the most amazing experience! Myself and my husband went there for our honeymoon in June! The most amazing experience and the best customer service starting from the beginning. We would truly like to thank Hector, Efron & Ricardo the pool waiters. They were absolutely amazing! Always there for a chat and drinks!! Ruben and Antonio were amazing, every morning greeted us and had a chat! All the restaurants were amazing and the food was brilliant! We would love to thank Antonio from the Italian restaurant, he provided the most wonderful experience like all the staff that work there! From the moment they knew it was a honeymoon we were on, we provided with the nicest treats such as desserts with happy honeymoon, can’t explain how special we were made to feel. Thanks to Alan who was brilliant apart of the entertainment team!! Lastly thank you to Alexandra who was always there for anything we needed! Most amazing experience and forever grateful for the staff there!
A beautiful resort, with great food and food choices. The staff is AMAZING! Everyone was so attentive and willing to accommodate whatever need you might have. The entertainment and activities were great and well planned. Book it, you'll be glad you did.
Service , food was excellent. One of the best place we have been
My husband and I have been to a different resort in the same area 9 times and although we love it, we took a chance trying out one new to us: Secrets Akumal. We were NOT disappointed!! Of course after having been to the other place so many times, it was natural for us to compare every aspect of each resort and honestly, as much as we truly love the other place, we found that everything at Secrets was absolutely as good as and in some cases better than our usual favorite place. So let me get down to the details. Seaweed, let's just get this out of the way immediately. Yes, the beach has a ton of the pesky sargassum seaweed right now and yes it can smell as it breaks down. But so does every other beach all up and down the east coast of Mexico (and even happening in Florida now). No resort can control nature, but the employees here work tirelessly to rake it up as fast as it comes in and move it out of the area in dump trucks. There really isn't any other solution and my gratitude is to the the very hard working employees who spend hours in the hot sun trying to keep up with it. Yes, it is there, yes it is everywhere on that coast but it varies each day (rain seems to knock it down a bunch). Go with the flow and don't let it get you down. You can get out past it in the shallow water and then you are in the ocean and away from it AND you can snorkel right off the beach and see so much beautiful sea life. The grounds are immaculate and very lush with the jungle/tropical vibe. I never see gardeners working so I have no clue how they maintain it so perfectly but hats off to them. There are three pools: the main one that is closest to the beach is the "activities" pool and if you want to do aqua workouts, pool volleyball or other group activities, this is the spot. It has the swim up bar and the bartenders work so fast filing orders, they practically blur. (If you want a quieter bar, there is one just a little bit away closer to the beach that has hanging swings and a great view of the ocean. Not many people seem to know about it so it's always quieter and you get the bartenders full attention. You can ask for name brand liquor for your drinks if you have a preference too.) The middle pool is just that: in the middle of the three location-wise and noise/activity wise. We enjoyed the 3rd pool, which is closer to the restaurants and allowed us some reprieve from the music and rowdier folks. At the "quiet pool" Ana and Antonio took great care of all our needs. Because we were celebrating two very important milestones (my husbands 65th birthday and our 40th anniversary) the resort went above and beyond to make us feel special, almost to the point of feeling like celebrities. Our room concierge, Fernando, even surprised us with a free Bali bed at the quiet pool as a gift. Our room was decorated for our big day and two very sweet cards were set out as a thoughtful nod to our celebrations. Fernando, our concierge always was quick to check in with us when he saw us in person (or sent a daily text letting us know what the activities were). He was at-the-ready to assist us in anything we may need to make our stay perfect. When he had a few days off, Annie stepped in as our concierge and she had a beautiful energy and friendliness about her. We rented a Bali bed on the beach for two days, in the front row and the view was very nice; snorkeling and swimming was just steps away. The constant work to keep the seaweed at bay has caused some beach erosion but I'm sure they will tend to that when the clean up is not so necessary anymore. I know all beaches in Mexico are public but the constant barrage of venders walking back and forth trying to sell items did become old pretty fast. I just wish that they'd realize if we said no thank you the first ten times, that we probably really don't want to be bothered another ten times. During our stays on the beach, our concierge Augustine and our waiter Jesus were extremely attentive. They had champagne chilling for us and continued to replace the ice to keep it cold. They brought a fruit plate just out of the blue and that was a refreshing snack. There's even a water pitcher and bowl set out so you can rinse the sand off your feet before laying back in the bed after being in the water. Very nice touch! A surprising act of kindness, Augustine offered to clean off my husbands sunglasses which had become rather smeary with sunscreen (and probably lunch). He carefully cleaned them very thoroughly. Heck, I don't even do that for him lol. Each restaurant was special in its own way and we truly enjoyed every one. We stayed 9 nights so we were able to return to a few more than once and our favorites were Bordeaux (the French one) and Portofino (Italian). The food was delicious, the pace of serving each portion of our meals was exactly right. Staff was knowledgeable and we were well attended. We had no issues whatsoever with any of the food at any restaurant. I'm not a "coffee person" so I didn't think I would utilize Cafe Coco but I was wrong! It's open 24 hours and I found myself grabbing snacks to bring back to the room or to have on hand in between pools/beach visits. Their sandwiches were delicious (I really loved the shredded chicken with a spicy mayo on a sub roll and my husband loved the hot ham and cheese). They have white and dark chocolate bon-bons that are SO incredibly rich and they have several flavors of ice cream too. I would pick up a blueberry muffin to nibble on back at the room and ended up having to get two because my husband enjoyed them as well. After each dinner, we headed to the only bar that was open before 10:00; Rendezvous. Our first evening there, it was earlier and quiet so we had the chance to chat with the bartender Santiago. He was a wealth of information when we were asking about the differences between tequila and mezcal and he gave us a great education about each and what types were best. On other nights, we enjoyed chatting with Carlos and he even made up a special drink for me as well as told me of some local recipes for making refreshing flavored waters to drink at home. We aren't much for shows but tried "The Rock Show" one night. Not a fan of it to be honest. The musicians were good (it was 80's/90's "hair band" rock) but the dancers were a little over the top with closer to "stripper-dancing". It was nice to listen to the live music performances outside of Rendezvous and by the main pool during the day. Also we truly enjoyed the pianist and violinist at two of the restaurants. Our room was beautiful....when we finally got the right room. There was a glitch when we first arrived and the "Ocean Front" room that we had paid extra for was NOT "Ocean Front" at all. It was a glimpse of the ocean and a view of the roof top of another building. That didn't sit well with us, as the description of "Ocean Front" was clearly not what we were experiencing. It was our first impression of a new-to-us resort so I decided to contact the front desk and let them know we were not at all happy with the room compared to what it should have been. At first they said they had no other "better ocean front" rooms available until the next day. That was not acceptable to us because that would mean unpacking for the night then repacking to move. They asked for a little more time to check and they would call us back. Only a few minutes later, they called to say they had another room and would be sending a bellhop up right away to move us. That room was exactly what we had been expecting as an Ocean Front room. Mistakes can happen, resorts can mess up sometimes but to me, those things should be looked at as opportunities. It's an opportunity for the resort staff to make things right, to make things better than right if they can and to show the true character of the resort. By listening to our complaint and rapidly resolving the issue, they validated it, solved it and got our vacation back on track right away. That impresses me. Pros and Cons: Cons: *There needs to be better directional signage as everyone seems to get lost frequently. There are signs at SOME paths but truly they need a directional sign at each "fork in the road" because many don't have any and these paths meander all over the place. I even ended up near employee parking by another resort once when I got turned around. *The air conditioning was minimal in each public building. And whoever came up with the idea of sliding glass doors in the Rendezvous bar is an idiot. Every time the waiters needed to bring a tray of drinks in and out, they had to open these huge sliding doors. Guests wouldn't realize they didn't self-close and would leave them open which let out the minimal air conditioning. I felt so bad for the staff in the bar working so hard with those silly sliding glass doors. *The "sales pitch" upon check in at the hotel is just wrong, wrong, wrong. My husband and I had been awake for 37 hours traveling to get to the resort and were exhausted, hungry and not at all expecting a hard-sell tactic in the Preferred Club lounge while checking in. The moment we'd sat down, we were approached by a staff member that we thought was to welcome us and explain the resort to us. Rather he wanted to meet up with us the next morning at breakfast for a 90 minute sales pitch for buying into return trips to Hyatt properties. He immediately said it wasn't a "time share" but that's exactly what it sounded like it would be. We were on vacation, celebrating two big life milestones and we did NOT want to be chatted up about buying into Hyatt hotels. My husband told him we'd just arrived, we hadn't even seen any of the place but the Preferred Club so we were not interested in hearing about any of that. He said he would contact us in a couple days. He then returned and said he would give us more time and contact us in five days. We must have successfully gotten it across that we were NOT interested and didn't want to be bothered because he dropped it and didn't contact us again. Unfortunately at breakfast each morning, I saw tables full of staff who were giving the strong sales pitch to poor weary guests. Secrets, PLEASE knock off the sale pitch! Leave a pamphlet or brochure or something but this is a respite from the daily life stresses, a vacation and not the place to be hassled with sales. Just no. *The rooms are always clean and spotless but there isn't always a turn down service each night and I don't understand the inconsistency. It's nice to have fresh towels and a replenished mini bar in the evening when returning for the night. *The pillows are heavy and not very comfortable. Most places provide a mixed assortment of bed pillows so there's always "something for everyone". There were four regular bed pillows for the king size bed and the rest we had to fill in with the decorative pillows which I don't feel comfortable doing since I'm not sure how frequently they are cleaned (as they can do with removable pillow covers). *Night Life/Bars. There is only one bar that opens before 10:00 so there's not much to do or any variety of bars right after dinner if you're not into the theater performances. Other resorts we've enjoyed have had at least 4-5 bars that are open for before or after dinner drinks (usually open at 5:00) and that's something we truly missed. The only other option was the Preferred Club where while the drinks were top shelf and the bartenders nice, the ambiance was bland and hardly anyone ever went in there. I just wish that more places would open earlier to give more variety. One suggestion to the resort: you're missing a wonderful venue by not utilizing that gorgeous lobby!!! The view out over the resort, the infinity pools and the huge open air pavilion are wasted. No one is ever in there except when you have to sit there waiting to catch a shuttle to leave (perhaps some benches up closer to the shuttle drop off would be wiser?) You could create a bar in a couple of the open wall areas, add fans to cool it down in the evening and utilize that giant beautiful area much better. It's just wasted right now as it is. Pros: *The staff are all, without exception, kind and helpful. Everyone we met went above and beyond to make us feel like royalty. *The grounds are stunning and immaculate *There are many little "special touches" if you take time to notice them. I mean, did anyone else notice that the toilet paper rolls are scented?? I noticed whenever the roll was moved, I smelled a light fragrance and realized it was infused into the roll. *The addition of real hand towels in the public restrooms in a nice touch. *THANK YOU so much for having REAL MENUS and not requiring guests to bring their cell phones to utilize a QR code. The last thing we need to be doing is encouraging people to bring their phones to dinner, to have their attention drawn away to look at the menus then continue being distracted by them throughout the meal. Many resorts have gone this route and we hate it. Keep the real menus, Secrets. It's classy and it encourages the ambiance. To wrap it up, we felt pampered, tended to and appreciated. The resort itself is beautiful, the people who work there are even more beautiful. We will definitely be back.
One of Our Favorite Secrets Resorts My wife, our two adult children, and I stayed at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya from July 6–14 and had a wonderful vacation. Since our kids are adults now, we really enjoy the adults-only atmosphere that Secrets offers. We've also been Unlimited Vacation Club (UVC) members for more than 15 years, so we've been fortunate to visit many different resorts over the years. Secrets Akumal is definitely one of our favorites. The resort is beautiful, with well-maintained grounds, plenty of tropical landscaping, comfortable rooms, and a relaxing atmosphere from the moment you arrive. We enjoyed spending time at both the lively main pool and the quieter pool, depending on how we wanted to spend the day. The food was consistently very good, and we especially liked the rotating outdoor lunch options. It was a nice touch that gave us something different to look forward to each afternoon. What really stood out during our stay was the staff. Every employee we encountered greeted us with a smile and seemed genuinely interested in making sure guests were enjoying their vacation. You could tell there was a real sense of pride in the level of service throughout the resort. A few employees deserve special recognition. Mario in the Preferred Lounge made us feel welcome from the moment we checked in and continued to check on us throughout our stay. Hugo was always friendly and helpful around the Preferred Lounge and pool area, and Jorge Canul from Food & Beverage consistently went out of his way to make sure guests were well taken care of. Antonio always provided great service during the evening shows, while our Building 4 concierge, Jose, did an excellent job communicating with us throughout the week and keeping us informed about activities and events. We'd also like to thank Alejandro and Jose, the pool concierges, who were always attentive and willing to help with whatever guests needed. Even the fitness center attendant, whose name we unfortunately didn't get, greeted everyone each morning and kept the facility spotless. If I had one negative comment, it would only be the ocean conditions, but that's simply because we visited during sargassum season. We knew there would likely be seaweed before we arrived, so it's certainly not the resort's fault. We were impressed by how hard the beach crew worked every day to keep the beach as clean as possible despite the conditions. After visiting many resorts over the past 15-plus years as UVC members, we've learned that what separates a good resort from a great one is the people. Secrets Akumal has an outstanding team that genuinely cares about its guests, and that made all the difference for our family. We appreciate everyone who helped make our vacation so enjoyable and look forward to returning in the future.
My partner and I came for a relaxing escape and planned to chill at the beach and pool and eat good food. We got a lot more than we bargained for in the best way possible! The staff was so kind and funny - they made our trip. We felt so happy and a great camaraderie. Their great energy is infectious, and everyone at the resort was smiling and happy. Highly recommend the snorkeling with turtles activity- our guides made us feel safe, and we saw at least five turtles! Gio was so kind, and we loved our paint & sip activity with him. Marlon, our concierge, was so helpful and super welcoming from the start. Alan, Oscar, and Ari are all rockstars and so entertaining to watch. They hosted many great activities in the pool and karaoke and would always chat with us and knew us by name. Irving & Felipe are some of the fastest bartenders I've ever seen! Usually we like going to new places every year, but we want to go back next year because this place made us so happy. Make sure to grab dinner at Oceana and check out the revolving lunch fare. I could go on and on, but thank you to Secrets, and especially the staff - you guys were the highlight of our vacation. Each and every one of you ( I cannot name everyone) gave us exemplary service and made us feel special & welcome!
All of the staff was very polite friendly and helpful
The excursions are properly explained
We booked this trip as time to relax and escape from responsibilities. This was one of a few different options available but Secrets Akumal won out and we are THRILLED that was the case. This was easily the best resort we've ever stayed at. The service was remarkable from the time we stepped off of the shuttle. Our room looked directly out at the beach and despite it being seaweed season, the view was spectacular. The food was great and the drinks even better. At no point did we ever feel like we didnt have what we needed. The only issue we had was that we had to leave!
My husband and I spent 4 days at Secrets Akumal and loved it! The service was phenomenal. We especially enjoyed talking with Isaac and Jose at the infinity pool, who went out of their way to arrange our chairs in the shade, clean sunglasses, check in to see if we needed anything. We also had exceptional service at the Market Cafe from Giovanni and Santiago. Our Building Concierge, Karina, made sure to send us the daily activity calendar and to see if we needed anything. We received chocolate covered strawberries to our room three times and a balloon arrangement to celebrate my husband's birthday. Two of the restaurants also sang Happy Birthday and brought a fabulous dessert with a sparkler because we said we were on vacation for his 40th. The entertainment team was also wonderful. We enjoyed beach volleyball and pool trivia with Alan and Cena. The whole staff works incredibly hard to keep the resort immaculate and to anticipate guest's needs. We didn't get to the pool particularly early any of the days but we were still able to get great poolside chairs. We stayed non-preferred in building 9, which I am sure some would not love because it is in the "back" of the resort. But, we loved the proximity to the spa, the gym, the quiet pool, the coffee shop, and the lobby restaurants. Overall, this stay was wonderful and relaxing and we hope to visit again!
Customer service was beyond phenomenal. I was nervous because we've gone on cruises and I didn't know how this would be. I was worried about entertainment. The entertainment was amazing. The pools were amazing. They told me it was a busy weekend, but if that's the case, I'm happy to take their busyness because I didn't feel like anybody was there. Also, I'm celiac and I can't eat many times. But this place was amazing all the restaurants were very detailed on what they could and could not do. I never went hungry. I plan to go back.
Today we went on the bike tour around Akumal (included with your stay) with Antonio & Eric! They were amazing guides and we stopped at several beautiful spots. Thank you, Tony and Eric for a really fun morning! Y’all are great!
We've stayed at quite a few Hyatt all-inclusive resorts over the years, and Secrets Akumal has easily earned a spot in our top three alongside Impressions Moxché and Secrets Playa Blanca. We enjoyed this stay so much that we've already booked two more visits, which is probably the best recommendation I can give. Our trip started with an issue when the air conditioning in our room developed a frozen line. Rather than simply trying to repair it while we waited, the staff moved us to an identical room in the next building. Oscar at the front desk made the process easy, and Raymundo personally walked us over to view the room before we decided to switch. Once settled, everything was great. The room was quiet, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on at a resort, and housekeeping did an excellent job every day. We spent almost all of our time at Pool 2 and found it to be a great balance between activity and relaxation. While most of the games and music centered around the infinity pool, Pool 2 stayed a little quieter without feeling isolated. One thing that really surprised us was how easy it was to find chairs. Even after 10:00 a.m. we had little trouble finding seats in our preferred area, something that's becoming increasingly uncommon at many resorts. The pool was a comfortable temperature, service was consistently quick, and the area was always kept clean throughout the day, with staff clearing towels and opening up seating frequently. Unfortunately, our visit coincided with a period of heavier sargassum. The staff worked continuously to remove it, but we ultimately spent our time by the pool instead. The beach itself is beautiful, and I particularly liked how the cabanas are staggered and terraced so each has an unobstructed view of the ocean rather than being arranged in strict rows. We're looking forward to returning when conditions improve so we can finally enjoy the snorkeling. We enjoyed every restaurant we visited. Patio was probably our favorite dinner of the trip—I love a good mole, and the duck was excellent. Seaside became our favorite lunch spot thanks to both the food and the outdoor setting overlooking the beach. Himitsu's à la carte menu was another highlight, especially the sushi. The smaller portions make it easy to sample several dishes, and we actually preferred many of those over our entrées. Portofino also deserves recognition. The filet medallions over mushroom risotto from the specials menu were outstanding, and the chicken Parmesan was prepared very well. We also appreciated the food offered around the pools and beach throughout the day, making it easy to grab lunch without interrupting your afternoon. We usually dine outside but after seeing the interiors of these restaurants I might re-think that on our next stays because they are very well decorated and designed. So remember those long pants to enjoy interior dining, it's worth the effort here, although we never had a wait to sit outside. One thing I appreciated throughout the resort was the consistency of the bars. Unlike some all-inclusives where you're hunting for a particular liquor depending on which bar you're visiting, every location seemed to be stocked similarly, and even the well liquors were quality brands. We often stopped at the Seaside Bar, although usually the servers had another drink on the way before we even had to ask. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with a lush jungle feel while remaining meticulously maintained. The layout is a little different than many resorts because the lobby sits more toward the center of the property, but once you get your bearings it actually means nothing is a particularly long walk. It did take us a day or two to learn our way around, though. I was also impressed with how well they seem to manage mosquitoes considering the amount of tropical vegetation throughout the resort. They're definitely present, though, so plan to apply some repellent if you want to be outside in the evening. (They love my wife, so I usually get by just fine and use her as bait.) The staff truly made this stay memorable. Karime, our room concierge, made sure our room was always stocked with the Coke Light and coffee pods we requested. After our room change, Alexandra became our concierge and handled a small service issue quickly, and I appreciated how responsive both she and management were. Osuna helped us reserve our cabana and checked on us throughout the week to make sure we had everything we needed, as did Issac. Maradona provided some of the best pool service we've experienced, often anticipating what we needed before we asked. Gil at Seaside tracked down bitters for my drinks, Carlos from the lobby bar personally walked us over to Himitsu instead of simply pointing us in the right direction and continued to take great care of us throughout our stay, and Luis at Patio provided excellent service throughout our dinner during the soccer match. Raymundo later recognized us while we were dining at Patio, stopped by just to chat, and I believe even sent us a small gift afterward—if that was you, thank you very much! The hotel manager also took the time to introduce himself and personally address our earlier concern after hearing about it from Alexandra. He shared his philosophy regarding service, and it wasn't just talk—it came through in every interaction we had with the staff, particularly in the way they proactively addressed even minor issues and made sure we were completely satisfied. I think Secrets Akumal is a great choice if you're looking for a relaxing adults-only resort with consistently good food, excellent service, and beautiful grounds. While we didn't get to experience the beach at its best because of the sargassum, that certainly wasn't the resort's fault—it's an issue throughout the region—and we're already looking forward to coming back and finally experiencing Akumal's famous snorkeling.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is a true paradise. We had done so much research as to which resort to go to and are so glad we picked Secrets Akumal. From the second we arrive and we're given cooling towels to being escorted directly to our preferred club lounge. Jose our concierge in building 4 was absolutely amazing. The property was extremely beautiful and gave it a good bit of depth. Between the buffet to the restaurant and dinner shows the food was amazing and well exceeded our expectations. Drinks were tasteful and nice and strong. Everyone was very happy to interact with. They really go above and beyond with every possible thing. Things I have to recommend doing; Bike tour Kayaking Guacamole class Water aerobics Giant darts Turtle painting Special shout outs including: -Jose concierge at building 4 -Mario and Anthony at entertainment team -Vanessa part of management team -Hugo (pool area management)
My family and I had the best trip ever! Everyone here treated us like royalty. There were so many fun activities led by incredible staff. Alan was one of our favorites! He was so kind and made our time at the resort extra fun. We will definitely be returning!
Just finished our honeymoon. The service was incredible. Shout outs to Marlon, our building concierge (building 8) Antonio, the concierge for the quiet pool Eric and Alan who took us on the bike tour (one of the highlights of the trip and the best activity on resort that we experienced) Anthony and Melina who did the archery lesson (we did it 2x while we were there because we enjoyed it so much) Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel special and taken care of. The resort grounds were beautiful.
We had a very nice time, the resort was beautiful and the rooms were incredible. The vibe was just not for us. The pool closed at 8 and if you weren't drinking there isn't much to do, but once the drinking starts it was a great time. The food wasn't bad, but very little of it was great.
We went to secrets Akumal for our honeymoon and had a great time! The resort is beautiful, the staff are so accommodating and the food is amazing (each restaurant feels like an experience). The pools are beautiful and the entire resort feels very luxurious. However, we did have a few issues. Firstly we are a couple in our early 20s and we did feel as though we were treated differently and with a different level of respect for being younger, in comparison to some older couples in the resort- particularly by pool side staff and restaurant staff in the French restaurant. This made our experience feel a bit negative. Furthermore, the trucks that dump the sargassum away from the sea dumped it in a pit outside of our room which was very noisy in the morning and did cause a pretty persistent smell. There was one worker José who worked down by the pool who we felt could have been a bit politer to us at times as he interacted much friendlier to other guests. In saying all of this, we did have a great time and our concierge Alexandra was amazing as well as hector who works by the pool and Alan did a great job at organising fun pool activities.
The service is amazing!
Nothing
While the sargassum (and the associated heavy equipment and dump trucks) impacted our trip, we still had a great time. The resort was beautiful, the food was good and the staff were all very friendly.
Secrets Akumal is absolutely the best place to stay! Everything is outstanding - the food, the pools, and especially the people.
Everything was amazing! The staff were so friendly. My family and I enjoyed participating in the free activities that were offered. Mario from the entertainment team made the activities so much fun for us and we had a great time in his activities.
We celebrated our 28th anniversary at Secrets and it was fantastic!! The resort is beautiful, clean/cool rooms, excellent food, and exceptional staff! Every need was taken care of. We really were able to just relax and soak up the sun! Highly recommend! 10/10 experience for us!
Couldn’t recommend this resort any higher. The staff was so friendly and attentive. Every activity was a 10/10. Fernando was the best concierge we could’ve asked for. Andrea was the activities supervisor, and she was EVERYWHERE making sure things were perfect. We did the Sip and Paint with Andrea which was so fun and so easy to follow along with! We did the Kayak experience with Sinai - she was an incredible guide and so much fun! We did the Turtle experience with Alan - it was stunning! We saw so many! We did the turtle painting with Oscar - we LOVED those keepsakes! We did the bikes in the pool with Oscar - so much energy and so much fun! We did the silent disco multiple nights - so much fun! The food was immaculate - Portofino was insanely good, but all of the food was so great! This resort is a MUST STAY!
Secrets Riviera Maya was such an incredible experience. My husband and I went for our honeymoon and it was perfect. We stayed for 10 nights and I was not ready to go home after because I loved it so much. The room was beautiful, we loved our view of the ocean. The housekeeping came 2-3 times a day which was amazing. The food was incredible. The staff was so kind and always helpful. The resort was stunning!! We had a blast and we WILL be back!!!
Overall, we had a good vacation and there were many things this resort did very well. The resort itself is beautiful, with a great atmosphere, comfortable rooms, excellent beds, and well-maintained grounds. We especially enjoyed the variety of activities offered throughout the day, including pool games, volleyball, bingo, kayaking, archery, and themed entertainment. The wine tasting experience and private wine cellar dinner were standout experiences and were among the highlights of our trip. Most of the food exceeded our expectations. The French restaurant was our favourite (aside from the private dinner), followed by the Italian restaurant, pizza, and Seaside. The buffet was better than expected and we also enjoyed the poolside food, fresh fruit carts, and ice cream carts. The martinis at the lobby bar were outstanding. Portions throughout the resort were very generous—larger than we needed. There were many staff members who provided exceptional service and genuinely made our vacation more enjoyable. While service varied depending on where we were, several employees went above and beyond and left a lasting positive impression. Our room was comfortable, with excellent air conditioning, a relaxing balcony whirlpool, and thoughtful touches like the drying line in the shower and the private room service cupboard. Public washrooms throughout the resort were consistently clean. That said, there were a number of areas where I think the resort could improve. Housekeeping was inconsistent during our stay. On arrival, the indoor whirlpool jets released dirt, hair, and residue when first turned on, which was disappointing after a long travel day. It improved after it was reported, but we were hesitant to use the jets again. We also experienced occasional issues with missing towels, coffee pods, and other amenities not being replenished consistently. Small details, like the number of towels or glasses provided, varied from day to day. The resort also experienced frequent brief power outages during our stay. While they generally only lasted a few minutes, one occurred while I was showering, which resulted in a minor injury when the lights suddenly went out. Service throughout the resort was somewhat inconsistent. Some staff were exceptional, while others seemed rushed or forgot parts of our orders. This wasn't limited to one restaurant or bar—it varied throughout the property. We also found that service at one of the main pools was much slower than at the quieter pool. One area that could be significantly improved is communication regarding Preferred Club benefits. We upgraded at check-in after being told about some of the advantages, but throughout the trip we continued discovering additional included benefits only because family members staying with us happened to mention them. There didn't seem to be a clear guide outlining everything that was included, and many benefits weren't proactively offered. I would strongly recommend the resort provide guests with a complete list of Preferred Club inclusions either at check-in, through the app, or in the room. Without that information, it's easy to miss out on benefits you've already paid for. Similarly, the building concierge service could be more proactive in explaining available services rather than waiting for guests to ask. For first-time Preferred Club guests, that would make a big difference. The resort app also has room for improvement. Some features didn't work properly, and several menus referenced additional options that couldn't actually be viewed. Being able to order room service directly through the app would also be a welcome improvement. The spa facilities were enjoyable overall, particularly the hydrotherapy area, but communication regarding optional upgrades could have been clearer. Knowing exactly what is included, what is extra, and the associated costs would help guests make informed decisions. A few other small observations that may help future travellers: The pools were warmer than expected, especially during hot weather. A cooler plunge pool would be a nice addition. But I loved that all the pools were warm enough for me to use ( I am a baby about being cold lol). The mini fridge kept drinks only moderately cool, and room service water often arrived at room temperature. More shaded areas within the pools would make spending long afternoons outside more comfortable. Morning noise from nearby housekeeping activity and neighbouring rooms was noticeable. Additional hangers, coffee creamer in the room, tighter electrical outlets, and more fans in common areas would improve comfort. Activity prizes and giveaways seemed inconsistent, and a few promised items never materialized. Overall, we still enjoyed our vacation and there were many memorable experiences that outweighed the negatives. The resort has beautiful facilities, excellent food, fun activities, and many outstanding staff members. However, for a luxury property, there were enough inconsistencies in housekeeping, communication, and service that it didn't quite meet the expectations we had, particularly after paying extra for the Preferred Club experience.
This was our second visit to Secrets Akumal, we returned after 4 years as we enjoyded our first visit so much. Not much has changed in that tine, rooms still the same, very comfortable and plenty of space for two people. The restaurants are still good and our favourites were Himitsu and Seaside Grill, we did room service a few times during our visit for evening meal and the delivery is excellent and the portions are extremely large. Breakfast is in the Market Cafe, a standout member in the morning was Genaro who looked after us for quite a few mornings, such a lovely man with a lovely smile, knew what drinks we wanted in the morning and still came to say high if we were not sitting in his section. There are plenty of choices for breakfast, healthy options or naughty ones. The activities team are just amazing, We did turtle painting and the water aerobics session in the pool, Alan is just amazing we did turtle painting with him and he was so informative. Water aerobics were also done with Alan, Mario, Anthony and Zina. thank you so much guys, you certanly go above and beyond in your roles. Metz was our concerige in building 9C, thank you Metz for all your help in oranising our Spa day, birthday banner, baloons and a cake in the room, also came to check on us by the pool, you are certainly a credit to Secrets Akumal. Also the gentleman who initially took our luggage to our room when we arrived, I'm so sorry I did not get your name, but everytime he saw us around the hotel he would always say hello, remembered our names, and stopped for a chat if he was not busy, he also came to say goodbye when we were leaving, this certainly left us with a lasting impression of you. The service was very good around the pool and also really nice touch with the ice cream cart and the fresh fruit cart in the afternoon. Our only dissapointment, and this is nothing to do with the hotel, was that the sargassum was so bad it was impossible to sit in the beach area and we were unable to even get in the sea, this was the worst as we are real beach goers, this would be the only reason that I probably would not return. So, a BIG "Thank you" to all the members of staff at Secrets Akumal, the effort from all of you does not go un-noticed. Thank you agarin for looking after us for two weeks we were with you. Lots of love to you all.
Everything about Secrets Akumal was amazing. The food, entertainment, amenities, and the sheer beauty of the resort all exceeded our expectations. But what truly sets this resort apart is the staff. Every department was outstanding and made us feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. Ari, Ciena, Anthony, and Carlos with the entertainment team were fantastic, Diego at Portofino was wonderful, and Ismael at the pool was excellent, just to name a few. We had an incredible stay and would absolutely recommend Secrets Akumal.
This place is truly a 10/10. For a first-time visitor, I would recommend coming when there isn't as much sargassum, from November to February. For returning visitors, we STILL enjoyed this resort even with less favorable beach conditions (VALUE!). On our most recent visit (we have been here twice), the service was even better than we remembered. Our building concierge, Metz, was so attentive. She took care of all of our requests and needs. The entertainment team here is top-tier. I have to shout out Ari (Aranza), Giovanni, Allan, and Anthony. I also can't forget Jose and the staff around the pool. Thank you all for making this such a wonderful birthday trip!
Truly fantastic experience. The staff are so friendly and genuinely want you to have a wonderful time. They take allergies and dietary restrictions very seriously and are extremely accommodating to ensure you have a delicious meal---went so far as to create special daily dishes based not only on my partner's allergies, but her preferences too! 24/7 room service is amazing. Eliazar, Gina (concierge), Osuna (pool), Jose (pool), Eduardo (pool), were all truly amazing and went above and beyond for us.
We had an absolute wonderful time at Secrets Akumal! The resort was immaculate and had all the amenities we could wish for. Our concierge was Fernando and he was absolutely wonderful! We can’t wait to visit again.
This is a solid secrets. The pools are very nice and the staff is exceptional. Food is very good and the level of alchohol in the perferred lounge is very good. Theatre is very warm at night as is the Desires night club. Out door dinning at sea side and oceana are quite comfortable and the food in all the resturants was very good... The Asada night was not up to par with other secrets we have been to.. Standout people at this resort are Marlon building 8 concierge. GIL seaside at breakfast and lunch... Selena at the check in perferred lounge. Gabriella at the perferred during the day, I believe she is a supervisor, she is amazing. I can honestly say her attention to detail and responsiveness to making people happy are what made our trip!! Unfortunately segrassum was terrible during our stay as normally I would talk more about the snorkeling.. but that is mother nature!!
Our first night at Sara Mall we ate at Oceana. Food was great with such a variety of flavors. The staff was friendly attentive and we can't wait to come back. Luis and Victor were exceptional.
We spent a week at Secrets Akumal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The resort itself is beautiful, with lovely grounds, spotless pools and one of the nicest beaches we’ve visited in Mexico. Although there was quite a bit of seaweed during our stay, the staff worked hard every day to keep the beach as clean as possible and it certainly didn’t spoil our holiday. The food was consistently good and we particularly enjoyed breakfast at Market Café and dinner at Portofino. Service throughout the resort was excellent and everyone seemed genuinely pleased to help. We also took advantage of some of the activities available. The turtle snorkelling just off the beach was a real highlight, and we had great fun trying paddle boards and joining one of the bike tours around the resort. Mario from the entertainment team led all the activities we joined and was always friendly and welcoming. He made everyone feel comfortable and helped create a nice atmosphere without trying too hard. All in all, a very enjoyable holiday and somewhere we would happily visit again.
We had a wonderful stay at this resort. The food was excellent with a great variety of options available every day. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. The service was outstanding. Housekeeping came several times a day to clean and refresh the room, and the entire property was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. Whenever we ordered something to our room, it arrived very quickly. Overall, the combination of amazing food, excellent service, friendly staff, and spotless facilities made our stay truly enjoyable. We would definitely love to come back and highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting the area.
Resort was amazing and very clean. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was great as well. Had steak at the Seaside Grill for dinner and it was cooked to perfection and was 1 of the best steaks I have had (coming from a midwest - beef state). Only bad thing was the sargassam at the beach - I just feel more stuff could have been done to clean it up and make the beach experience better. But it is the summer season and the sargassam is a known issue. We were told that this has been the worse it ever has been.
The absolute best part of our trip was the service. The staff went above and beyond every single day: Concierge: Fernando was the best butler and concierge we have ever encountered. He checked in early daily, provided attentive guidance, and helped us perfectly plan our days. Pool Team: Isaac, the pool concierge, was incredibly friendly and attentive. Over at Pool 2, our servers Salvador, Jose, and Israel provided fantastic, quick, friendly service. Dining Star: Emmanuel at the Greek restaurant was phenomenal. He was engaging, anticipated our needs, offered great menu suggestions, and even went above and beyond to craft a special drink for me. Food, Drinks, & Activities Dining: The food and overall dining experiences were top-tier with great service across the board. The French and Asian restaurants were our absolute favorites. Beverages: The drinks throughout the resort were excellent and well-made. We especially loved the Preferred Club with top shelf tequila and AC to refresh before and after dinner. Amenities: The pools were beautiful, well-maintained, and the snorkeling right off the beach was a major highlight of the trip. The Downsides: Extreme Heat & Poor Air Conditioning The resort's infrastructure layout made it very uncomfortable to relax during the afternoons and evenings: Restaurants: Most dining venues had little to no air conditioning, making dinner an uncomfortable dining experience rather than a relaxing one. If men are required to wear long pants, at least turn up the AC to make it more comfortable for them. Every time the host would open the door, we were blasted with the discomfort of the outdoor heat. Lobby Bar: The open-air design combined with a lack of natural breeze made sitting here highly uncomfortable. Desires Night Club: The nightclub was unbearably hot. We tried to watch the Mexico soccer game and enjoy the nightlife dancing, but the heat cut our nights short. We simply couldn't stay inside to enjoy ourselves.
We loved the resort. It was beautiful, clean, and great service. The spa was very nice and relaxing. We stayed in room 4410 in preferred club. We felt the preferred club was worth it. Better location, drinks and appetizers throughout the day. The pools were amazing. Atmosphere and people were great. We liked the Portifono Italian restaurant the best. Everything was good there. The Amstar Tulum ruins/ Cenotes full day excursion we did was well worth it and highly recommend. We also swam with turtles for $35 each on the left side of the resort and highly recommend as well. We saw many turtles. Unfortunately we didn’t spend much time at the beach as the sargassum was extremely bad and the smell was really bad also. We were disappointed in that aspect. They were constantly cleaning it but couldn’t keep up. We arrived on a Wednesday and it was bad when we arrived, but they didn’t use the dump truck and backhoe till Thursday to start cleaning it and it had already piled up so much. Entertainment was great each night. Room was very clean and everything worked. It did take 1 hour and 35 minutes to get to and from the airport with Amstar service so be prepared. We wish the steaks at supper were better quality at Seaside grill but were comparable to Texas Roadhouse and Saltgrass steakhouse. Lunch was amazing at Seaside as the burgers were very good. We recommend the pizza next to the bar near the pool. Overall food was good.
They definitely focus on service at Secrets Akumal. The staff were amazing and so quick to help and make sure your needs were met. I appreciated the activities they had from the bike ride into town and the lagoon to the Mexican lotería (aka bingo) with Ari. The place was kept spotless even the leaves from the trees that fell were quickly cleaned up and the staff made sure our room was taken care of. The food was great and while not extra ordinary it was a nice meal every time. The drinks were even better and I basically stayed by the pool near the bar. I sent with friends and would definitely go back. Great place.
Our trip was amazing! We stayed for 8 days and had a blast. The food was great ( especially the breakfast buffet ), pools were clean and fun, and the drinks and servers were amazing. Some people that made our stay special were Anthony on the entertainment team, Annie our concierge, Omar a bartender, and Basilio another bartender. They made us feel welcome and helped us have a fantastic time.
Excellent! Here for two weeks and impossible to find fault. The key is the staff- so friendly, helpful and normal! You can have a great chat, fun and laugh and still receive 5* service. Food and drink options excellent and well varied for the two weeks. Great gym, excellent activities great spacious and well equipped rooms with fab air con. Really not one fault - come here and enjoy…
This resort was top tier. From the food to service of ALL staff members. I work in hospitality and I have never seen such awesomeness like this before and my concierge Ricardo was the absolute best!!
We had an incredible experience at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The resort was beautiful, clean, and very well maintained. The staff truly made the difference—everyone we encountered was friendly, attentive, and professional. A special thank you to Belem from housekeeping for keeping our room spotless and comfortable throughout our stay, and to Mario at the bar for his excellent service and great attitude. Marcos, Sebastian, and the rest of the team were also very kind and welcoming. The food and beverage experience was excellent across all restaurants. We especially enjoyed Seaside Grill, which offered delicious grilled dishes and seafood in a beautiful oceanfront setting with great service. Market Café had a wide variety of fresh options for breakfast and lunch, always well stocked and clean. We also enjoyed in-room dining breakfast, which was convenient, fresh, and consistently delivered on time. The spa experience was very relaxing and professional—perfect for unwinding and adding a touch of luxury to our stay. Overall, everything from service to food, drinks, and amenities was outstanding. We would absolutely return and highly recommend this resort for a relaxing and memorable vacation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended!
Everything was great.
If I had to pick one thing it would be lack of consistency of the room service. Sometimes it was great others it was just average. Just very inconsistent.
Would go back again but bring long pants if you want to attend any restaurants! Overall experience was great and would recommend this place to anyone.
Overall, staying at the resort was an exceptional experience. The staff, concierge service, food and amenities were great and my husband and I had a wonderful time celebrating our honeymoon. For some constructive feedback, I do wish there were more chairs at the pool areas. Pretty much everyday the chairs fill up immediately and your only choice is to go to beach which was difficult for me given the strong odor coming from the piles of seaweed at the shore. We would have to go the beach, wait for the pool to clear out a bit, and then hunt for seats. I do think staff could be more helpful in this process. Another thing that was frustrating about the beach was the people constantly coming to sell various items and would not take no for an answer. I am used to this, but it does take away from the experience when you just want to relax and enjoy the beach. I have been to other resorts where these sellers can’t pass a certain threshold to preserve guest privacy. On our first day, we went inside the water for about 30 minutes and came back to find one of our books stolen, probably by one of these sellers. When we asked staff about it, they did not seem to care or made any effort to help us. We never left our things alone after this and tried our best to stay by the pool. The shows and entertainment were amazing, with really talented individuals showcasing their art. I will say that if you attend the outdoor activities to bring some bug spray because the mosquitoes were ferocious and I got bit whenever there was a late night entertainment event outside. Overall, it was a good experience and I would come again. If you decide to come, back your bug spray, watch your things at the beach, and stay by the pool!!
Visited for a girls trip and from beginning to end it was the best resort I’ve stayed at. The cleanliness, the staff’s professionalism and the quality of the drinks and food was beyond expectations.
Gorgeous resort by day with incredible service and attention to detail. By night the property becomes a mesmerizing series of jungle like walkways lit by small lights. But the people make this resort come alive. Especially Ari who gave us a personal macramé class because we were leaving the next day. The spa is fabulous. We will be back!!
Very great stay for our honeymoon. Some of the best service we experienced with a very friendly staff. We felt very comfortable and happy with our stay. Overall, definitely worth the visit. However, avoid the 1.5 hour seminar if they try to push that on you. They give you a 200 dollar credit but it's very pushy.
We lWe truly enjoyed our stay at the resort; it was an unforgettable experience. We wholeheartedly recommend it for couples. Awake early to secure a lounge chair at the peaceful pool. Although the beach was overwhelmed with sargassum, the hardworking staff did their best to clean it up, and we still managed to enjoy our time there.
This is the best Secrets we have been to. Rebecca, Jose Mejia, Max, Alan, Eric, Antonio, Salvador, Antonio and Diego were ALL amazing and made our stay so wonderful. The fact that there were so many memorable people there just makes it obvious that THIS is the place to go! Check in was so easy and seamless thanks to Rebecca who honored our requests and we came in after 6pm. The young gentleman who helped us with our luggage was super helpful as well! We went on the sea turtle snorkeling excursion and it was our first time snorkeling- Alan and Eric made the experience so much fun! We purchased a Bali bed on our last day there and Antonio made the experience seamless and feel like the ultimate VIP experience along with Salvador, Alberto and Diego. Stephany was also very helpful and attentive with Amstar- I HIGHLY recommend calling her first for your round trip transportation to and from the resort for a seamless experience. There were zero negatives for us here and my husband and I cannot WAIT to come back. Thank you again much for the wonderful experience!!!!
