The motel was not clean. On pulling the bed aside to access the electric blanket I saw months of accumulated dust. The bathroom floor was dirty as was the ledge in the kitchen. It was a very cold night and there were no extra blankets.

The bathroom area was nicely renovated however very small area. The main room was a good size but the large couch took up a lot of room. Probably not needed.

Reviewed Aug 19, 2026As its name tells you, the motel is right on the beachfront. The Kaikōura beachfront is exceptionally beautiful. The manager of the motel was friendly and my unit had everything I needed - a comfortable bed, plenty of hot water in the shower, a well-equipped kitchen and a heater. There was a place to sit outside the unit, which I enjoyed.
The motel is, I think, 1.3 kilometres from the bus stop in town where I got off the Intercity bus so my walk there with a large backpack was a bit demanding but once I put my pack in my room I had no problem walking back to the town or beyond the shops and cafés to the whale-watching company.

We had planned on looking for a laundromat after 8 days of travelling the South and this was so appreciated to have this option. Room was very clean and had what we needed.

Our car broke down on arrival at the lodge so we were a bit stranded being a bit far from shops and restaurants. However this was sorted by the next morning and we were able to reach wherever we needed to go you car quite easily.
