The property was in a delightfully quiet setting. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. In particular, the sheets were luxurious! A microwave in each room and a lovely breakfast overlooking the farmland. Getting to feed the sheep and alpacas was a nice treat.

Location is awesome, only 5 minutes out of Mosgiel but in a type setting. Rooms are nice and roomy, we had 3 cats with us and there was plenty of room for us and them. Although we left too early to have the included breakfast, from what we saw it look nice.

Had everything you could ever want for an overnights accommodation, so nothing.

Fantastic stay, John was a lovely host, very kindly upgraded our room as new we were arriving late after a long drive. Delish breakfast, super comfy bed and toasty warm room in middle of winter.

The view was spectacular.

Friendly and welcoming host. The continental breakfast had a good selection, with optional cooked extras available like scrambled eggs and bacon if you wanted something more substantial. We found the continental breakfast perfectly adequate. A nice bonus was being able to feed the sheep and alpacas during the stay. The location also suited us well, roughly midway between the airport and Dunedin, which worked perfectly as we had a hire car.

The room we stayed in did not have the private ensuite bathroom we were expecting from the listing. Instead, the bathroom was located down a hallway. To be fair, it appeared to be exclusively for our use, so in practice it worked reasonably well, but it was not quite what we had anticipated. The owner mentioned this was the only room configured this way, and that the other rooms have proper ensuites.

Great handy location and comfortable stay!

Peaceful rural setting, John is super helpful, welcomed us on arrival.

No complaints, everything was as advertised.

Because of our ages (one being 97), we particularly liked being offered downstairs rooms, opening to a large deck where we listened to bell birds and tuis. What a joy that was.

Peaceful farm setting.

Everything. It was a fabulous place to stay away from the city but close to facilities. Comfortable beds, good shower, and guest kitchen were greatly appreciated, as was the heated towel rack. John looked after us very well.

There was a slightly wobbly chair in the guest kitchen, but that was not a big issue.

Facilities were comfortable. Range of options for breakfast. Chatty host. I appreciated him allowing me to do some laundry.

Our host, John, was friendly and helpful. The surrounds were beautiful.

I had mistakenly booked for the wrong night but John was very helpful and able to host us when we arrived. The views were amazing. Location was close to Mosgiel, but you felt like you were far in the countryside. Breakfast was lovely and the whole place is well set up.

Relaxing accommodation, with a very friendly host and curious neighbors, the alpacas, 😉 Very calm surrounding, especially in the night. Just 18min drive to downtown Dunedin, even during peak times.

Location is great, apartment is lovely and had most things you need.

The spare room would be great if there was a blind over the glass blocks as most nights a light was on outside and comes directly into the room its not great for sleeping. A air drying rack for clothing would be great too.

Such a beautiful location. Combined with the frogs at night and the tui and bellbirds in the day the wild life was great to see and hear.

Great location in a quiet area with beautiful views. Our room had everything needed for a comfortable stay and we had a good breakfast in the morning. Feeding Thomas and Donald the alpacas and the sheep before we left was a lovely bonus. Only around ten minutes drive into the town to see the lovely old buildings of Dunedin and a further few minutes to the beautiful Otago peninsula.

Wir haben ohne Aufpreis ein Studio mit Wohnzimmer bekommen und hatten daher viel Platz. Die Lage und das Haus selbst sind super. Zentralheizung, Wasser autark, Photovoltaik am Dach,... 😃

The location was quiet and restful and well signposted. Lots of info made available and easy self checkin. Other guests shared the common lounge and kitchen, and were easy to get along with. The accommodation had a wonderful kitchen, with all breakfast makings so you could start your day well. Host John was polite and friendly. Slept well in comfortable bed.

Signage for the accommodation was great but would have liked some signage along Gladstone Road North to confirm location.

Lovely outlook over Mosgiel, nice not to be on the main road or hear traffic noise. But only 5 minutes away from shops/motorway. John a friendly and welcoming host.

Lovely accommodation in the hills outside Dunedin (a short 10-15min drive gets you into the center of town). The host is very welcoming and provides a fantastic breakfast in a large dining room overlooking the gardens and farm animals (sheep and alpacas). The room was very quiet and pleasant with comfortable beds and a great bathroom.

The breakfast is too basic . If you want egg, omelette or bacon , they attract separate charge which is not cheap .

Ligging midden in de natuur was mooi en erg rustig. Het was leuk dat we de alpaca’s en schapen die bij het farmhouse stonden mochten voeren.

Wij hadden kamer 3, die het dichtst bij de eetzaal lag en daardoor wat gehoriger was. Het ontbijt is sober, maar voldoende (voor Nieuw-Zeelandse begrippen).

Loved everything! Immaculately clean. The sofas in the lounge were exceptionally clean too, as were carpets, bedding etc. We were upgraded (room 4) and included a very large lounge area, with TV, Netflix etc. We chose the complimentary continental breakfast but you could have bacon/eggs etc for a very little extra charge. There was a ‘guest’ kitchen for us to help ourselves to beer, soft drinks etc for such a low cost (beer NZ$5, soft drinks NZ$3). There may have been other drinks but didn’t ask. The view was outstanding too. We were able to feed the alpaca and sheep at 9 am which was amazing to do. We had such an amazing stay. What a find! You could also sit outside your room which was a sun trap in the early evening.

Nothing! A little out of town but you are not going to find a farm stay in a town centre! It was our best hotel experience of our 3 week trip.

The location was great,on a farm. Continental breakfast was included in price if you wanted eggs. It was extra cost.

We had room no 2, which I think it is way too small. There were two cupboards in the room, but one was locked, and the other had a shelf at the top and had the small fridge tucked in the corner of the cupboard which means if you staying their a few days you have nowhere to put your suit cases. The bathroom was outside the room. It was a private one, but you do have to walk into the hall way to get to which you do have to be clothed to get to it as there is room next door to you that use the hallway to go through the kitchen or exit the building. We spoke to one of the owners, and he clarified the wording between an ensuite and a private bathroom. The private is only yours, but outside the room where the ensuite is in the room with you. As we were from Australia, we were not aware of this. An ensuite or private bathroom means it in your room.

Lugnt rum.

Rum med badrum betyder tydligen badrum i korridoren utanför rummet..... Frukost ingick och man kunde beställa ägg. Problemet var att ingen ansvarig dök upp till frukost tiden....

Loved the farm feel, nice breakfast, welcoming host, clean and modern facilities. VERY honest host…we accidentally left some valuables in the room after we checked out and he informed us immediately and we were able to make arrangements to retrieve the item.

A little noisy in the morning with other guests having breakfast and chatting with host, but this would vary in room location.

John was an excellent host and helped us out when we had to stay another night due to storms. Helped us out with transportation and was a very pleasant stay. I highly reccommend this place to stay. Thanks John see you next time.

The owner John was very personable and knowledgeable and gave advice about more travel. Feeding the alpacas and sheep was a unique experience. The sunset was beautiful and peaceful. Did not book breakfast but owner was accommodating and flexible and added it. Good continental breakfast, good choices. Liked the heated towel rung in bathroom.

John, the owner, is incredibly friendly and accommodating—he even allowed me extra time to finish work without any additional cost. The breakfast was delightful, the room spacious, and the views were simply amazing. Service was exceptional from start to finish. My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed our two nights here during our trip to New Zealand. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Dunedin! Thank you, John, for making our stay memorable!

Great spot away from road noise and good facilities.

Tucked away. This is a must if you want somewhere close to the city but not too far away. Make sure you remind John if you have paid for breakfast.

The view from the patio is beautiful. Songbirds, sheep and lamas. Definitely recommend staying here if you have access to a vehicle.

Stayed one night and had a great experience! Due to delays in our travel schedule we had to check-in late and were unable to contact the property regarding this. We arrived with an envelope addressed to myself with all the information needed! The room was large, very clean and the hospitality was amazing! The next morning we had the opportunity to speak with the owner and help feed their sheep and alpacas! I would strongly recommend staying at Hunters Moon and if I ever return I will stay here again

good basic breakfast of yogurt, fruit and cereal; host very engaging and loves to chat and share info of area, the country and his experiences. The alpacas are fun to be around just to watch.

breakfast hours were a bit limited if you needed to get out before 0730 bathroom outside of our room. Located out of Dunedin in Mosgiel. the road to the site was under repair but accessible - just a bit confusing around the signage.

Great experience

Loved our stay - extremely handy to the Racecourse where a function we were attending was being held. John was so welcoming and we enjoyed the peaceful setting and watching the animals.

We have been staying in some 4 star hotels on our travels and Hunter’s Moon is by far our favorite place to stay in New Zealand. Love the location and John made us feel so welcome.
