You can stay in a room that is adjusted to your needs(Rooms-Congested),Neat/Clean, and it is only 5 minutes away from Viswanath Darshan, 3 minutes from Kashi Vishalakshi Temple, and 15 minutes from Nandi Chauraha. One needs to walk at least ten min to 15 min from Nandi Chauraha but once reached to the hotel you will not be disappointed. I visited two times to Kashi and stayed in ALKA itself. The food and the staff were good. I reserved a room that had a bathroom attached to it. Sometimes, they don't include a bathroom in the room, so you have to book an attached one or use the shared bathroom. You can see the Ganga aarti from far away, but it is not very clear. The best thing is to look at the Ganga Maa, who is the mother of the river, right below the hotel. You can also take a holy dip in the Ganga at the same place, but only when the water is not too high. Overall stay is quiet but prices can be reduced as it is very remote 15 min walk from main Chauraha.

My wife and I were visiting Varanasi for a few days and looking for a vegetarian restaurant - we were suggested Hotel Alka by our guide. We were served by ‘Jidu’ who was professional and helpful from the very beginning, he spoke very well in English which naturally was a bonus - especially as we wanted to avoid meals with nuts in. Food was delicious - we had 2 plain daals, 1 cheese pulao, 1 cucumber salad, 2 lassies and 2 chai’s to finish. This all came to only 920 rupees (around £7.70). We were also able to get a table with a view of the River Gange. Jidu went above and beyond - especially on our 2nd occasion here, as I wasn’t feeling too well and he was there to provide assistance where we needed, without asking of him. Definitely recommended to visit 🙏🏼
The hotel location in terms of view is perfect.
Accessibility via narrow streets
Good
Room service should be better
ガンジス川に隣接していてロケーションは素晴らしい
安い部屋を利用したので仕方がないが、トイレ、シャワーが共用で汚い。お湯も出ない。ホテルへのアプローチが難しい。
location,room,stuffs
Location and the view of river Ganga and the gnats of Benares.
Expected better room facilities. The food items in the restaurant are all very expensive compared to the quality of the food served.
Location
No acceess road to the hotel and not mentioned..
It was great
Nearer to temple
Costly to the facility provided
Only Location
Rooms are too small. Views are not available from all rooms. Only two rooms are good. Room service is not available. Not at all professional. It’s good for only pilgrimage purposes and not for leisure.
Location is prime. It located on Meer ghat one of the most convenient place to live in Varanasi dham
Near to gaga river
They have given smallest room downstairs, and there was a no TV in need lots of mosquito
Location
The room has peeling plaster, no proper door handle to get out. There is a cage of wire through which to view to shore and all the boat activity. Staff were difficult. This is a hotel that has stopped really caring as it's location means it gets plenty of guests. I was very glad I had only booked one night
The location is fantastic. I was in a Premium Room and it met my expectations, but you pay a hefty premium for it. Everything in the room worked: A/C, fan, wifi, hot water etc. but this is not a luxury hotel, so even the premium rooms are a little spartan. The hotell arranged a taxi from the airport and someone to carry my baggage to the hotel from the drop-off point which is 700m away where Godowlia Road becomes Luxa Road. When I checked out at 4am they again provided someone to carry my baggage to a tuktuk they had arranged to take me to the station. This all worked well and I would consider that it is essential to make use of it. The food in the restaurant is limited but safe. The hotel arranged for a boat trip along the ghats - this worked well and was reasonably priced. Extras have to be paid in cash, but contrary to what Booking.com say, the hotel do take credit cards.
The whole area where the hotel isand the ghats around it is a no-go area for cars, tuktuks and cycle rickshaws. This is partly because the lanes are very narrow and little more than footpaths, partly because of the temples, and because the roads are so crowded with pedestrians, scooters and motorcycles. This is inconvenient but also a bit limiting as going anywhere requires a fair bit of walking and even when you get to the nearest tuktuks they have to go around the edge of the pedestrianised area which can be quite a detour. You need to understand all this to set your expectations, BUT the location is fantastic for watching what goes on along the Ganges. I think the poor reviews are because people don't go into this with the right expectations. If you book a cheap room you can't expect a fantastic view of the river and A/C etc
Location is the greatest asset! Direct exit to the Ghats, Ghanga sunrise view piont. Room 110 (Deluxe Double Room) - next to the kitchen stairs (cockroaches included). A/C & hot water provided 24 h. View of the courtyard with open air restaurant. Room 132 (Budget Single Room) - small, but very nice (no cockroaches). Ghats view. Room 109 (Delux Double Room) - like 110, but smaller. Room 108 (Delux Double Room) - like 110, but without bathroom & cockroaches. Wifi works well.
Watch out for Buget Single Rooms - there are 4 "in the basement" (one level up of the Ghats, two levels below courtyard/restaurant). Very overwhelming, uncomfortable & dark (no window). Far away of everything.
The location of the hotel on the ghats is excellent - though be aware that the atmosphere can be smoky at times as the cremation grounds are not far away. I got absolutely what I paid for. Staff were helpful at all times and food in the restaurant is both good and reasonably priced. Why four rather than five stars? No hot water for half of my stay - and decor is a tad tired and almost gloomy. This was evidently the fashion at some point - as my (considerably worse) Delhi hotel was similar. I was a solo older female traveller and never felt unsafe or unduly pressurised.
Location, nice view
The room was terrible
Located at the prime location of Meer ghat.
close to the ghaats, but access is very difficult- too crowded throughout the afternoons till late evenings a long walk with all the luggage to reach the place and get out also - not possible without the help of the staff a 2 day stay was ok, once the rituals completed I left for the town centre
there should have been better and easier access to and from property to other parts of the city. Guests should have been informed of the situation regularly
Cleanliness not up to the mark
Good location
Poor facility.
Just the location.
Mattresses on beds could have been better.
The location of the hotel is very good and I got a good view from the terrace. The hotel canteen staffs and the reception desk staffs were good in behaviour.
1. The behaviour of the cleaning staff of the hotel is very very rude and poor. I stayed for 3 nights, and that guy had the audacity to tell me that he will not clean my room, do whatever I can do !! 2. At the time of booking, it was not mentioned in their room details page of the booking page that it is going to be a basement room, which is three level below !! . I was surprised after reaching the hotel. This should not happen to anyone. You have to clearly mention about the room, it's floor details at least. What If I would have visited with an old person !!
Fantastic location right on the banks of the Ganges.
Very dissatisfied and disappointed with the room. Expected a Delux double room which is what we paid for but our room was certainly only a Standard!!!!
I like it's location, River view. sunrise view.
It's difficult to reach hotel with laggage. There is no facility of any ride to hotel.
If you want to experience the bank of the Ganges from a veranda overlooking the river, this is the place to watch, and eat and drink from. Steps straight down to the bank and you are a stroll from the most interesting ghats and temples. The hotel is not easy to find and you will need a porter to help if your bags are heavy. Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. The food served in the restaurant is excellent value and very good. Note that the restaurant is separate from the hotel and if you are booked for bed and breakfast you still pay for breakfast. It's difficult spend very much so not to worry. The rooms are quite small and the bathroom also, but they are clean and comfortable. Note you have to ask for toilet paper, and the concept of coat hangers is alien. However, this is a three star hotel and we could find nothing to complain about.
The food, the sea view, the staff and the room.
everything is fine. next to the river ganga. but the internet doesn't work well in the downstairs rooms.
The location and the view are truly the only positive points of our stay at this hotel.
The access with our luggage was very complicated. The listing on Booking.com is misleading: it mentions participation in the Ganga Aarti and Darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, but these activities are accessible to everyone and completely free. Moreover, there was no late checkout included, contrary to what was advertised. This was the worst reception we experienced in India ! Later, we received a message from Booking.com claiming that we had not honored our reservation. We had to send them the hotel receipt to prove otherwise.
Location, Facility, Rooms
Nothing
Close to the ghats.
No porters. Needed to carry own luggage to hotel in the middle of the night. Hotel is difficult to find. The so called balcony is so fenced off it is worthless. The food is limited and not particularly good.
Alka Hotel in Varanasi is a true gem! The location is unbeatable, right along the ghats with a stunning view of the Ganges. We stayed here 2nd time. waking up to the sunrise over the river was magical. The rooms are cozy, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable stay. We loved the rooftop restaurant which serves delicious food with the best view in town
Good location, friendly staff, good food.
Quite a long walk as not possible to reach Alka Hotel by taxi or rickshaw.
Property overlooking ganga ghat when come out of room, Spectacular View. how ever to reach there need to walk through the narrow lanes with luggage as no vehicle could reach at door of the property. It was a tiny single bed room, smaller than expectation.
spectacular view and food.
The location was good.
Cleanliness and facilities
Great view of Ganges
Nothing apart from location.
They have rooms of study room size,, beds and mattresses are so uncomfortable. In this hotel there is something called hospitality which seized to exist. Highly overpriced, rooms which hardly can fit a queen size bed are sold at very high prices.
The Alka folks were kind enough to make room for us when we showed up a day early in their busiest season. Excellent staff, kind, thoughtful, and informative. The hotel offered everything one would need to have the best stay in Varanasi. .
Great terrace restaurant overlooking the Ganges with friendly staff and good food
The location was amazing. It’s very central, and the view is absolutely breathtaking. The staff were always on hand and the food was nice. This is the fourth time my family have stayed here and we would stay again.
I thought the staff were a little bit too pushy for tips compared to other places we have stayed in India.
Basic hotel, but clean and comfortable with working air conditioning and a reasonably restaurant on site. Great views of the Ganges and only a minute from the shores.
Getting to the hotel from any sort of transport is not for the faint hearted. It’s about a 15 minute walk through narrow filthy alleyways with motorbikes zipping by in both directions. The hotel sent someone to carry our bags, so that wasn’t an issue. I’d also say watch your change in the restaurant and be clear what is expected re tipping for bag carrying (if on a budget). NB the booking.com room rate is about 30% higher than the advertised rate at the hotel.
Ganges view from Hotel is good, it's very near to vishwanath temple easy to visit temple
Hotel not provided the room as I book. Food lower than avarage, kichen staff are not trained and support, even they r denied to serve food in room and also denied to serve tea in garden area
The view of the ganges was amazing. The staff was very polite.
The location is a bit inside the galis of banaras.
Location
Facilities not provided despite heavy tariff of room
The view, the location in best by Ganga, Meer Ghat just beside the hotel.
TV, phones don’t work inside room, AC leaks, limited menu in the in house restaurant, reception staff not enough caring for guest requirements
Amazing
Location is very good
Food was good
All was Well
it was clean
No room services as everyone has to go and eat in canteen
Near to the ghat. Can watch Ganga Aarti from the room window and balcony.Friendly staffs and managers. Good for budget travelers and definitely will meet new friends. Room is comfortable.
Bathroom is not clean. Had to inform few times to clean. At night caretakers will close the main door before 11pm 😵💫 had to knock the door few times for them to open. It’s better to have their hotel mobile number to contact.
This is a good hotel. It's location is excellent. It's cleanliness is moderate. Hotel Staff are very good and cooperative. For family it is very secure.
The food across all times was good and service was quick.
The rate of the rooms are higher in comparison to the size of the room.
Excellent Location near The Holy Ganges.
The room was good but the tap water was too hot and was actually not usable during the day.
The location was fantastic and food great. The sight and sounds of Varanasi was awesome and every thing you crave for Varanasi is in front of you. Awesome location and sight seeing. Friendly staff with helpful attitude
Air conditioning and room amenities for their priciest rooms were not up to the mark. Like no complimentary tea bags and kettles. Room amenities like soap toiletries and towels were not up to the mark
the courtyard type experience was amazing. particularly their restaurant part. the river view was amazing from their. I wish I will go there few more time. I hope someday I will go there and spend some quite time and feel the ambience of Varanasi. Hotel management were quite helpful to us. And we are pretty much happy for their service.
This property is located on meer ghat which is also a center point for tourist you can access all mandir and ghats within few steps
Location is ok
Parking facility not available. Therefore not like this
