Provider-sourced guest reviews.
All of the staff during my stay were lovely! Even though the Inn - as well as much of the area - had to weather storm Amy, lost power and internet, and couldn't provide hot food. The service was still excellent. Everyone did a fantastic job working with the conditions given and promptly took care of guests as best they could. They provided a continental breakfast in the morning, candles the evening prior, and kept folks as happy as they could throughout. When power resumed, much of the food was unusable other than pizzas. However, my Bee Sting pizza was delicious. As was the beer. And...the deep fried Stickers was amazing!!
We stayed here for two nights while in the area. The room was very comfortable and the staff were all excellent. The dining room staff were so good and the person looking after breakfast was so entertaining. Breakfast is included and includes a choice of three hot dishes and a few items from the continental breakfast area. They do serve dinner and the menu was good. We ate here both evenings and enjoyed it. There are many sitting areas on the main floor and a bar area.
If you have accessible issues, be very causal the property does not have a lift and all rooms and restaurants require the use of multiple stairs. Also, some stairs have 90 degree turns, therefore, making transversing stairs quite difficult. Overall lighting in stairwells also is poor. Transitions are poorly defined. Exits, including exit access, exit hardware and exit discharge areas DO NOT OPEN AND FLOW IN THE DIRECTION OF EGRESS. If you are from the US, please note this issue. Also, the facility, from the US standpoint is not ADA compliant. Bathrooms were difficult to maneuver. Slanted ceiling, no room for a suitcase stand (luggage rack), etc. Had to put a stool in the bathroom to balance toiletries. The water in the shower, when someone soles flushes a toilet goes from warm to scalding to freezing. Truly, the water temperature seems to have a mind of its own! The hourly staff members were wonderful! True gems! When asking reception questions including for some bottles of water, it appears we were asking for the moon! It seems they took their grumpy pills that day! Meals were so expensive. We ordered three orders of artisan bread-which ended up being six slices of bread for 15 pounds! YES-15 POUNDS!!! One morning we asked for two (each) eggs and were told we could only have one egg. One day granola-the next we were told there wasn’t any. One night we wanted pizza and were told that since the cook was alone, he was not making pizza that evening. The only choices were deep fried chips, deep fried breaded fish, deep fried breaded shrimp, deep fried breaded sausage (notice a trend?j as well as three kinds of deep fried candy bars (we didn’t partake).
Lovely hotel staff great we enjoyed our stay here will be coming back here. Good location for walking fantastic views
Staff were very friendly and engaging. The room was clean and comfortable. The shower was terrible, no pressure at all. The restaurant was nice, but the food was way overpriced.
Greeted at check-in by uncommonly rude man. Entire place smells like frying oil from fish and chips shop on premises. Many dirty rags on all restaurant counters. Crumbs on every surface. Room had electrical issues. Many outlets not working. None at bedside. Dinner menu very limited. No salad or vegetables. There is nothing else in little village of Glencoe so stuck eating here.
What a total sham! We actually had to ask if we had arrived at the correct hotel following our booking online for evening dinner. The website is totally inaccurate showing the dining room with ambient lighting, soft furnishings and white linen tablecloths. We were greeted with wooden pub tables, spotlights and Smooth radio playing complete with adverts. The hotel marketing group for the Inn are totally dishonest in their portrayal of this inn and we feel sorry for the front of house staff who have to bear the brunt of the complaints. The menu on line stated lobster and other dishes but these haven’t been available for a while so please do not expect what is advertised!
This is an out of the way location for people travelling in and out of Fort William by train, we were taxied to and from the town and there is nowhere else to eat but the Glencoe Inn. The hotel is dog friendly so they were in the bar, at dinner and breakfast (one in particular barking) I have rated our room as very good as it was the ex Manager's residence and was clean and well appointment, I cannot rate the other rooms as I did not see them.
Don’t bother… we walked in on a Saturday night at 6.30 to be told that they had stopped serving food even though it says 8 pm on website. Asked if we could eat in the restaurant but was told it was fully booked even though there was empty tables, and they stayed empty … ordered a 2nd drink at the bar to be told they would have to re-use our glasses if we wanted another as they had run out of glasses.
Kind of a weird property? Smelled strange, perhaps just old. Out of date restaurant menus on the website, dull atmosphere in the “fancier” restaurant. Don’t bother with the fish and chips place, the driest and most bland I’ve ever had. There was a stain on one of the pillowcases in the room. Overall the stay was just okay
We arrived around 9pm. The young man in the office did not greet us upon entry. He showed us to our room. Husband asked if he could add 3 postcards to their outgoing mail. The man suggested instead he walk (in the rain) a few blocks to the post office. It took 30 minutes. By the time husband returned, the young man had left, they took away the free whiskey decanter and said the cash bar was also closed. The whiskey bar was the cool factor, the reason i booked here. Very disappointed in the lack of customer service. The room was tiny and we had to carry our luggage up a flight of stairs juggling a door at the top and another at the bottom. Glencoe Inn doesn't even compare to the Glengarry Castle which was beautiful, spacious amd had excellent customer service - AND cost less! I would not go back to Glencoe Inn. For $359 USD for one night, i expected top notch service but instead got that of a Motel 6. Had I spent half that price, I'd be ok with it, but not for what we paid.
??
The room was really small with a bunk bed. No chairs or space for the luggage. There was no elevator and with my back problem the staff while checking out was rude and initially refused to help but finally brought it down. It is in a very nice and convenient location. There was no food at the restaurant for vegetarians.
This hotel is like a place that time forgot, but not always in a good way. The staff were friendly and helpful, in particular Scott & Dylan. Beautiful & convenient setting in Glencoe The general ambiance was “old, charming but well-worn Scottish country inn,” which would be lovely if it was kept clean. The room was comfortable enough, with all the amenities as listed; breakfast was quite good, if slow. Unfortunately there were numerous places throughout that had visible stains and scuffs. Wooden floors were dirty. The landing where you go up the stairs to the bedrooms had a noticeably bad odor, probably from the nearby ladies toilets. This would all be (sort of) okay if it weren’t listed as a 5-star hotel. Maybe it used to be? It’s as if Crerar Hotels has forgotten about this one. This hotel has the potential to be so much more than it currently is. Needs a bigger budget and more staff. They are clearly overworked and understaffed, but do their best, which we appreciated.
The Inn was quite shabby and they were unprepared for the number of guests they had. Of the five or six items on the menu in the restaurant two were unavailable at our seating. A relatively limited breakfast was 19 pounds per person. Definitely not worth the rate.
Pretty run down and pretty expensive. Dog odour in our room was strong
LIKED Glencoe Inn is right off the main highway and has decent parking. Easy to find. The valley and views are gorgeous. That is about the extent of what we liked. Well, breakfast wasn't bad, once it was set up. DISLIKED Just about everything was sub-par. Arrival/check-in- For 3 rooms, had to fill out questionnaire. Very regimented, not friendly. All rooms are up a flight of stairs. The Inn is quite old. And it smells like it. Rooms were tight, hot, humid. TINY bathrooms! With heated towel bar right by toilet- easy to burn yourself. Shower stall barely fit a human. Dinner: One server doing everything and clearly overwhelmed. The chicken stuffed with haggis was inedible. Not because of haggis. Had a bitter chemical burn taste. SLOW on everything. Prices were nearly fine dining level which was ridiculous. Spent a very uncomfortable night, and when I showed up to the dining room to get coffee in the morning, flustered the new one-person host/server who wasn't ready. They were very particular about WHEN you could come in. We had a group of 6 adults and one child, and they said only 4 of us could dine at 7:30, and 2 at 8am. Very inconvenient and there was plenty of room at empty tables. Staff was not friendly. I would not recommend this spot. And I'm sorry we didn't find someplace other than this. Best thing - we only had to suffer through 1-night.
Being local, we wanted a couple of pre dinner drinks while dinner cooking at home. Don't waste your time as it's locked up. There's no signage to say so, the interior lights are on but please don't bother. It's the 1st of September, the season is still in flow, the A82 is still busy as we're still in tourist season, but this is not the first time this has happened. A real shame as it could be a goldmine due to its position on the main Glasgow to Fort William route. They have most definitely lost our custom for good.
We found the hotel in a good location with a nice reception, lounge & our bedroom/apartment was great and spotless. Alas our overall impression was negative due to our poor dining experience. There is much to see in the Glencoe area which we much enjoyed.
This is not 5 star but a nice inn to stay at - I would not opt for dinner again as the choice was limited for more than one night - didn’t change and a lack of availability throughout (no fresh fish/shellfish despite being called steak and lobster restaurant). Quite pricey for what it is.
Whatever you do don’t stay here. Photos are very deceptive. Restaurant is always out of something. Bedding is very uncomfortable.
Had a wonderful stay here! We were booked for one night, but had to extend our stay due to Storm Floris! The staff was very accommodating and helpful, and made arrangements for another night and even upgrade our room! The staff is very hard working, also...as we saw many of them doing double duty in the restaurant upstairs!! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals! It was the perfect place to stay in Glencoe!!
Although the public spaces of the hotel are quite nice, the rooms are in need of upgrades and the facilities need freshening up. It’s unusual to see trash bins overflowing, tables not cleared and general untidiness at a hotel which has so much potential. While the staff made an effort to be of service, it was clear management oversight was needed. It’s disappointing when a chef is late, food selections offered are not available and the restaurant and bar areas are untidy.
We came to the glencoe inn on our sixth night of the west highland way, we had been camping every other night so this was our wee treat to ourselves. The inn had such a rustic, cosy feel to it from the onset with the decor. We loved it. Our host (never caught his name) seemed to be the only one around but this did not stop him from putting on his best service. He instantly made us feel at home and made us aware of all that was on offer. Attention to detail was clear, in the wee newspaper, nip of whisky and right down to the highland soap co. Products. We were very pleased to hear we also had a free sauna and jacuzzi on offer after many long days of hiking!! We were booked in at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast - the server again was very welcoming and tended to all our needs. The food was delicious and good quality. Similar to the inn host he seemed to be the only man running the show, serving our dinner and breakfast! Despite this he did a very good job. Loved our stay from start to finish, would definitely recommend and come back.
This hotel is in a good location and the bed was comfortable. However the restaurant was not adequately staffed and so the poor chap who was the only server on duty was rushing around trying to get everyone's order and then the food out. The drinks took an age to be served too. There seemed many things on the menu were not available. The room was adequate but the bathroom very basic with no where to put toiletries - my pet hate- ! The walkways from the hotel to the restaurants were in need of a refurb or a good scrub down. It seemed/felt unloved TBH. Certainly not worth £300 + per night that said it was fully booked!
Read a lot of reviews on our way from Edinburgh to the Highlands so I was concerned, here’s an honest and non dramatic one for you. For context, I’m American, British husband, 3 teenage kids. We are used to staying in 4/5 star hotels, came from Rocco Forte, have high standards but can be easy going. We’ve stayed in enough horrible travel soccer hotels to have a weird variety of experiences. At first glance the hotel looked questionable and the poor reviews seemed like they would be correct. We had 3 rooms to accommodate our family and we booked 116 which was said to be the “posh” room. The room itself was fine, it wasn’t sparkling clean but it wasn’t dirty and it wasn’t musty. Little worn but again, fine. Dinner in the main restaurant wasn’t great. The bartender was nice, she may have been the manager, the room was really hot and they had the radio (ads and all) playing loudly. Someone should just stream an appropriate playlist. I don’t want to listen to advertisements while I eat dinner. There was a horrible smell in the dining room that came and went. I think I know the source and it’s a management opportunity to have a discussion with the staff to fix it. Some of the food was below average. Steaks had a very burnt taste to them. My salmon was fine but my potatoes were cold. I’ve lived and worked in seasonal tourists areas and I know that having all the things working perfectly at the same time is very difficult. They may want to pull back on what they offer and focus on doing less but doing it well.
Staying at the Glencoe Inn was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have had. To start with the positive, the room itself was nicely decorated, although the skirting showed a lot of scuffs. The duvet and blanket were stained and the sheets had holes. We supposedly had a view of the hills, and while we could see some hills, what dominated our view was the roof and the roundabout. The rest of the hotel was of shockingly poor quality. Everywhere was dirty. The stairs had not seen a mop for many months, if ever. All surfaces were dirty or sticky. There were odd smells throughout the hotel. Many of the walls were scuffed. Before dinner we had a drink in the upstairs bar. It lacked character and there were no garnishes like lime or lemon for the drinks. The main restaurant was also disappointing. Again, dirty and sticky, with poor service. The food was mediocre and overpriced. The large wine rack was almost empty. Breakfast was a rather dismal affair. 30 minutes to get a cup of tea and 45 minutes to get breakfast. This after telling us that we needed to show up at a specific time for breakfast. There was a puddle of water on the floor, obviously coming from a small refrigerator. Could have been an electrocution hazard. Before checking in, we had lunch at the attached restaurant next door - The Gathering. We had eaten there 5 years before and thought it was nice - food was good and the wait staff wore smart leather aprons. When we showed up this time, everything has changed. It had been turned into a chippie and pizza place. There was no ambience. We ordered a pizza to share, and even though we could see them making it fresh, it tasted like a frozen pizza - no easy feat to pull that off. And it was clear that the seafood was not fresh - I saw what looked like bags of frozen scampi. So, overall a very disappointing visit, and to top it off we had to pay £317 for an average room in a mediocre hotel. Absolute rip off. We stayed at another hotel in the group a couple of nights later - cost 1/3 less and was much nicer experience overall. It seems that Crerar Hotels has let this place go to ruin but thinks it can still command premium prices. Do Not Stay Here.
Don’t come! It’s a bad, dirty, unpleasant place with terrible service and overpriced. An extremely expensive price, a filthy breakfast, a shockingly rude waitress, no breakfast items available, and the worst breakfast service I’ve ever seen. Please, don’t come. Small room, a bed that’s impossible for two people, an old mattress… A five-star hotel price for a place that doesn’t even deserve one. Go anywhere else. That’s my advice.
The staff at the hotel were helpful but we had several challenges during our stay that were a bit out of their hands (power outage, etc). Bright spots were the hot tub access outside and staff help. Downsides was that the family bunk room we booked was surprisingly tiny (like we had to take all but one suitcase back to the car because it was too small to even have them there). Pictures didn’t convey this and Staff said the Hotel is due for a refresh, so maybe in a year it will be
Very nice hotel with really helpful and friendly staff.
Just back today from the most expensive mistake ever. That’ll teach us not to read reviews beforehand! Agree with all the previous reviews and noted the same generic response to each - that things are in the works. You’re aware of the issues but still continue to ask the same cost of the customer knowing what you’re offering isn’t worth it. That’s terrible. Start with the good. Cool welcome newspaper clipping, nice Hebridean soap company products, nice whisky selection, hidden garden spa cool place to chill with lovely views, whisky snug has potential to be great, and finally location is lovely! I’ll preface by saying the staff were not at fault. It seems like a bunch of mostly young people trying their best with the limited tools given to them. Literally running a skeleton staff. What a shame for the members of staff who continue to show up and work and handle complaints all the time on account of poor management (higher up management). For young people as well I’m sure this is very defeating. Now the bad. The dinner we had was terrible. I’ll say first the website claims ‘fresh local produce’ however when queried if their meal was sourced locally and fresh, a customer was told that the chef was not ‘100% sure’ alarming really that a chef wouldn’t be sure how old raw ingredients are. Certainly not 5 star standard. Maybe remove that claim from the website or ensure contractors provide the fresh local produce? How about employ more than two kitchen staff and maybe then they could keep track. 😥😥😓😓 We ordered sirloin steak, what we got was, well, something that resembled a flat long bit of well done burger meat. With, for some odd reason, a handful of raw whole Tomatoes across the plate. Now, this meal was only two courses for two people and over £100! 😓😥 Whisky snug was dead, closed at 10 when receptionist left. It was such a lovely space and view! Great selection of whiskys. Staff member very kindly went out his way to get us a drink from this bar several times. Room was hot. A fan was provided. Had to have it on all night. It was noisy and couldn’t sleep well. For the price paid, you’d expect air conditioning. The shower pressure left a lot to be desired. Cleanliness was an issue but that’ll be the case if only two cleaners… they must have their hands full that’s for sure! Several Breakfast items advertised were all missing. Cooked food was greasy, bacon fatty. I’m also going to say, we don’t treat ourselves a lot. Life’s very expensive. We were so so excited to come and splurge a little. Now, I just feel a bit sick thinking of all the other things we could have spent this money on. It’s really not cool 😭. I keep seeing the same repeated responses about how a pricing restructure is in the works, unfortunately too late for us. The pricing needs restructured now, I’m sorry to say. Not next week, not next month. I would also take a look at that website and clarify a few things. What metrics are you using when claiming something is sourced ‘fresh’? Suspect our standards are misaligned. Know this isn’t the person respondings fault, I only hope they raise and push people to do more now. You are being held to a high standard, because customers are paying a high cost. Do better!
Well stocked large full kitchen with washer and dryer. Very good appliances. Large comfortable living room with views of Loch Leven. Outdoor sitting area with firepit. Outdoor private jacuzzi as well. 2 large modern full bathrooms. Even had a private parking spot. It was like renting a small house to ourselves. It was perfect for our family with 2 toddlers. Would be good for a multi family trip as well. Highly recommend and I would definitely stay here again.
Location history, great accomodation and food wonderful, friendly professional staff. Natural beauty and history made this a wonderful trip
Absolute disappointment. Service was poor and person checking us in was quite rude. Restaurant had zero atmosphere. Asked for a baby cot but was given no mattress.
I was a bit apprehensive about the Glencoe Inn due to reviews I had read. However, I am glad I didn’t listen. We ended up booking the Glencoe Inn for our elopement in June 2025 and stayed in the Loch View suite. We checked in and were greeted by Scott. He was very welcoming from the get go. Our room was lovely, tastefully decorated with the best view in the house and the roll-top bath at the end of the bed was dreamy. We are so pleased even the rooms are dog friendly too! The spa facilities consisted of a sauna, hot tub and cold shower, which we took advantage of (I really liked how you have to book the spa, so you’re not sharing with strangers!) We spent the evening in the bar, being served drinks by Ben. The view from the bar, looking over the mountains was exactly the vibe we were looking for to build excitement for our elopement. Ben was the kindest soul, he very easy to talk to and seemed genuinely pleased for us even though he’d only known us for a few minutes. (Our dog absolutely loved him and wouldn’t leave him alone - which tells you a lot about a person!) We ate in the restaurant both nights and had a deliciously cooked meal each time. Again, the servers were so friendly. Oliver and Ethan served us and were brilliant! Our elopement came around and we had our planner, hairdresser and videographer arrive at the hotel, they were very accommodating - letting us use the beautifully decorated communal rooms in the hotel for video and photos which we all really appreciate. In the evening of our elopement, Scott managed to pull a couple of surprises out of the bag which really made our entire day. Very thoughtful and an excellent touch. Glencoe Inn itself is very lovely, however it really is the staff that make it the experience it is. Scott and Ben are that great, that I’m hoping they will be there when we visit again for our 1st wedding anniversary. Thank you again for everything you all did to make our elopement run smoothly and for an all round brilliant stay.
Lovely staff that tried very hard to accommodate. Several items not on menu as stated. Great rooms and really comfortable.
The bald (sry) server was actually shaking his head in despair to see us arrive om time for breakfast. Its as if he did not want us there. Being an american I did confront him, if you dont want us here we domt need to eat here. He said ' no no its ok its fine' People come here om vacatiom. It shouldn't feel like a hospital where everyone is in pain. The property itself is very old not like how it looks on photos. They pretty much put a lipstick on a pig. Please spend ypur money elsewhere.
A Joke - £340 per night for that way below average room, the whole hotel was tired and smelled of burnt fat, dinner was burned, breakfast was burned, the poor staff were overworked and everything seemed to be too much trouble. Never again !!1
Overpriced, understaffed & in need of a major review by management on where they are trying to position this property. 5* in their imagination! Stunning views though!
The Hotel is definitely not 5 star and very expensive £600 for two nights. They have the most beautiful seating area on the ground floor with a bar. Unfortunately that bar doesn’t open until 10pm when the basic bar upstairs closes. The problem is the night porter is no where to be seen so trying to get a second wine is absolutely impossible. I’m sitting in this beautiful room with the mountains outside the window and there’s NO BAR SERVICE at all. The Management have a lot to answer for. God knows where the night porter has disappeared to, I’ve looked everywhere trying to find him
Fantastic stay at the hotel staff are a credit to the hotel we got free upgrade as well to the Apartment which was lovely,Great night's sleep as well and Dinner and Breakfast was good also, we stayed with our small dog a pomeranian who was made very welcome we hope to stay again.
We had a meal here a few years ago and it was excellent but our experience last week was pretty poor. £35 for2x fish and chips( chips were oven cooked not chippy chips) and no peas. A cross between a chippy and a restaurant but failing miserably. Staff not very helpful. Completely without any atmosphere. Glen Coe is beautiful but this does not match the view. Felt embarrassed that this was Scottish hospitality.
Quite difficult to access the room with luggage. Car park is a long walk.
A very tired building that could benefit from a complete decoration and new carpets throughout. Staff were very friendly and helpful though. Attached chip shop was probably the most expensive 'normal' chippy I have ever seen !
It was the staff that made our stay so special. We also loved the lounge areas, one had plenty of board games, others had comfy couches to relax and read in. Paula welcomed us with such warmth, Alex went above and beyond to make the stay feel like home. Ethan was a sunshine human in the restaurant. And the chefs made yummy food. The sauna and spa was a treat after a big day walk. Would come back again for sure Ellie
The price is insanely high for what you get. I feel robbed.
Nice hotel. Room a little small, but clean and comfortable. Nice bar and restaurant. Continental breakfast could have been better.
The rooms were fine, although quite pricey. The food was abysmal. The pizza place was closed and they were making pizza in the fish shop. The kitchen was total chaos and not very hygienic from what we saw. It was quite dirty and the quality was sub par. Could not even consume the breakfast as there were flies in my fruit. Was yelled at for not making dinner reservations even though the dining room was empty….
I feel that the two-star review for Glencoe Inn and Gathering is somewhat harsh, but I want to emphasize to management that they are missing an opportunity with a place that has brilliant potential. The room was lovely, and we were fortunate enough to receive a complimentary upgrade. The staff, especially Scott, the Manager on Duty, were exceptionally friendly and helpful. However, the experience was held back by the food in the restaurant. This can be confusing, as there is a hotel, a dining room, and a chippy/pizza place. The hotel itself is excellent and the chippy/pizza place is fine, but the dining room (where breakfast is served and which also functions as a restaurant in the evening) was disappointing. The food was bland and poorly cooked, and there were many items unavailable on the menu. I spoke with the staff, and they mentioned that it is common for them to have at least one or two items missing every night. They also seemed to be understaffed, with employees having to run back and forth between the bar, the chippy, and the hotel. The restaurant prioritized hotel guests, which meant they turned away other customers despite the hotel being mostly empty. When I asked a staff member for recommendations, they informed me that they didn't live in the area and weren't familiar with local options. Providing recommendations is an important aspect of hotel reception. I genuinely dislike leaving negative reviews, especially since the staff are clearly trying their best. However, the issues with the supply chain, the coordination between the restaurant and the hotel, and the staffing levels all need to be addressed.
Booked this place, and then read recent reviews, yes i know, should have done it other way round. So i was a little concerned after reading them, and wasnt sure what to expect. Yes, the place is a little rough around the edges and is probably overdue a refurb, but we were only staying one night, so not too bothered. What i would say is, reception area needs lightening and brightening up ( first impressions count) its dull, dark and dreary ! And the sofa, which is clearly ancient, needs burning. Its so low and gets lower when you sit on it, its like sitting on the floor. Our room, nice big bright room, with 3 windows. There was a bath in the bedroom, which seems to be the thing to have atm. Not sure why really. I feel its pointless ! Who is going to have a bath, in front of a clear window? Our room was crying out for seating. There was one small wooden chair to sit on. So you had to sit or lie on bed to relax, not ideal ! I could understand it if there was no space, but there is plenty of space for a sofa, or a couple of easy chairs, it just doesnt make sense to me. The curtains are very difficult to close, partly because the bath is in the way ! My main annoyance, is the bathroom door. Its a sliding door, on just one top track. Which means the bottom of door, moves around a lot, when you open and close it. You have to close the door to get to light switch. So imagine, its the middle of the night, all guests are asleep and you get up, to go for a pee. You open the door and as you do, it rattles, bangs and trundles along the wall, making hell of a racket, probably waking most guests !!! I mean whos idiotic idea was this door? There is room to have a normal door opening out. The best part about this hotel, were the staff. They were very helpful and friendly, especially the lovely young guy in the bar. Didnt catch his name, but he had tattoo on his hand. All in all, stay was ok, but not somewhere i would rush back to. Too many stairs, on too many different levels for my liking. And its extremely expensive, which is fine for some places, just not this one.
Hotel is located in a very lovely quaint town, perfect for strolling. Came across a very small but popular restaurant called ‘Moss ‘and we were lucky to book a dinner there, that did not disappoint. The Inn is old but has the charm and feel of days of old. Staff is exceptionally friendly. Ethan made our dinner experience personable and fun with a bit of chatting. Breakfast set up was nice with made to order available. Our morning server was pleasant and service was quick. Other than an odd smell throughout the Inn, the cleanliness was acceptable. Be prepared for no elevator and worn carpet.
A one night stay at over £500 for an upgraded room was daylight robbery. Hotel is tired. Smells of fat in the dining rooms. Paid for the dog to stay , no dog bedding , no dog bowls. Breakfast was a greasy plate of food that I would not feed to my dog and was not eaten. Room had issues with plumbing and kettle left on the floor, for £528 I expect more and food that is fit to eat. A local told us that the hotel is not the best and I would have to say after 50 years of travel I have never been so disgusted
We were very confused as to why this place had positive reviews and was pricier than the other lovely B&Bs we stayed at during our travels in Scotland... The inn seemed pretty vacant (there was never anyone in the whisky room for service, and rarely anyone in the lounge), the room was not the cleanest (cobwebs in the bathroom, marks on the bedcover, dust on the heater)... Smaller issues were the TV didn't work at all, the dining experience felt very bare bones, the light in the hall was out every day! We didn't understand why people rated this place highly and it was our worst B&B experience yet. The other places in Scotland during our travels were absolutely lovely.
There’s a lot to say about this place. I had initially booked it back in fall 2024 and hadn’t seen the poor reviews. The week of our stay I had a bad feeling about going to stay at this hotel, and I read the reviews and almost cancelled our trip to the area and changed our route. I wish I had. The hotel itself is located pretty centrally in Glencoe. But beyond that, it was nowhere near as advertised on the website. Our room was free of clutter, but very dusty. It seemed to only be clean of debris on the floor, but all the trim had a thick layer of dust on it. The bathroom also looked to be nice upon first look, but the shower head had a lot of black build up on it. We also had a completely backed up shower drain that caused water to spill over the lip of the shower. The hotel advertises having restaurants but no availability and hours change constantly. It should not be advertised as a five star hotel and I regret staying.
We had reserved a three night stay at the Glencoe Inn. The rooms were in such shabby shape and we only stayed one night and checked out to go find a better hotel. The room I stayed in smelled like dog urine. Breakfast was included in our stay. When we went to breakfast at 9am, they had completely run out of most of the food. It was a very disappointing stay, especially because they are charging a lot for the rooms. We ended up driving down the coast and staying at the Knipoch Inn which was cheaper and a lot nicer.
I initially booked this hotel strictly on location. I wanted somewhere between Edinburgh and Inverness that would be a good base while we got our bearings, and I wanted somewhere accessible to a few places/sites I wanted to see. Glencoe village is small, like you will go to bed hungry if you don’t plan ahead, which I discovered, even with extensive planning and back up plans. This property has so much potential, but for some reason, their management/owners must not want to invest. The property itself is fine, the layout of the hotel is maze like, but does have a bar and restaurant included (which was important to me). It appears that this property is run on a bare bones skeleton staff. There was one housekeeper, which makes sense why rooms/common areas were kind of clean on the surface, but not really, really clean. The rooms are definitely worn and could use a refresh (scrub the walls, refresh the paint, shampoo the carpets). The reason I rated higher than a 3 is the staff. This property was exceptional because of David, Jules, Sam and the two cooks (breakfast cook and evening cook, I did not get their names, sorry!). David and Jules run their tails off making sure people are getting drinks at the bar, waiting and bussing tables, and all with a smile and friendly attitude. They are the heart and soul of this hotel. I cannot stress this enough, these two are rockstars in hospitality. We had breakfast twice and dinner once, everything was delicious, so again, props to the cooks. The area of this property is beautiful, stunning , and incredible. But my rating is highly dependent on the great staff
Very noisy dogs in bar made eating in the restaurant unbearable
The food at the hotel restaurant was terrible. Even tho they claim to be 5 star fine dining. The staff were very kind and helpful but just seemed undertrained. Our room was small hot and stuffy just didn’t match the high price. The bar wasent staffed to make any cocktails Overall just too high of a price for what it was
DO NOT BOOK A STAY HERE!! Price is far too high for what is delivered. Cleanliness level is low, our bathroom appeared to only be quickly wiped. The sink was not clean. There were stains in the bedroom carpet. Downstairs all floors and tables were sticky and icky. Also, there was a bouquet of dried up once-fresh flowers downstairs, still in plastic wrap and a cardboard carrying-box. Perhaps forgotten by a guest about a month ago? Very interesting. Service personnel is very kind and helpful, but just not qualified. Makes sense though seen the reception is a windowless broom closet (seriously), quite an uninspiring work environment to apply for. The restaurants are a breath of fresh air compared to that but have more of a kanteen ambiance than fine dining. All restaurants were served from one kitchen that only employs one cook, and there was no lobster on the menu in the “steak and lobster bistro”. Additionally, the vegetarian options were not available for dinner. The bar downstairs, the “whiskey snug”, wasn’t even open and no service came downstairs so we had to walk upstairs to get our drinks. The upstairs bar closed at 21.45h, which meant guests arriving downstairs later had nothing to drink. Couldn’t get anything from their rooms either because there appear to be no minibars here. Sleeping also was not great. Our room was very hot as it is built on the south, and had no airconditioning (hello five star hotel). Additionally, our mattress had a pit. And we could hear everything that was happening around the hotel all night, both inside and outdoor. Breakfast was not something to wake up for. Half of the menu was missing (both for the continental menu and the chef’s) and for tea there was just English breakfast. An extra surprise when eating my cornflakes: the milk was off. A staff member very kindly went to the supermarket to fetch new milk. But come on Management, this should not be happening. Just stay away from this place. Staff mean well but are not trained properly and clearly overworked. The latter is due to the hotel not employing enough people, and the personnel needing to handle so many complaints seen the horrible amenities.
We were just there 1 night. Got in late. Dinner at restaurant was good as was breakfast. Rooms are very small. Double size beds. No a/c. There was a fan in the room. Staff was friendly and provided good service. Would not book again due to size of bed and room. Would go back to restaurant
Great old hotel with character and a fantastic shower, robes, and slippers.
The photo s and description on hotels .com are nothing like the actual hotel. It is located on. Busy noisy road. The shower in our bathroom did not work. They say they have 2 restaurants and 2nars. In actuality there is Fish and Chips and Pizza restaurant attached. The main dining room is nothing like in the photos and they have no staff there. The bartender from the next room is trying to service both areas
Picture on website and description of five star inn totally deceitful. On main road and lucky to be two star. Walked out of dining room as seated next to table where people had left most of their meal. Price was a rip off . We got two nights in the West End of Glasgow for that price. Will be writing when home for compensation
Our stay was nice. However, there could be improvements in the dining experience. We ate in the “Fish and Chips” and the “Pizza” restaurants. They’re all the same, same cook. The food was fair. There’re aren’t other options in Glencoe. The location was nice, the staff friendly. It was only the food options that were a miss.
The room was small and outdated. The carpet was stained and furniture had water stains. For the £329 I expected so much more. I will say we had an end room and it was very quiet. We also ate in the Fish and Chips restaurant - the food was not great. They need to do some major updating for the high cost of these rooms.
We had a fabulous night here, in the little ground floor apartment. Most of it was paid from birthday gift vouchers. It's pricey and that's why I am being picky. We would go back (will need to save up for that) it was truly a treat and truly dog friendly. It just didn't quite get there, no information in the room, wi fi was appauling, tv kept spooling. No telephone in the room to get a hold of reception. But it was lovely, we had a sofa and dining table in the little lounge, direct access to outside a small kitchen with coffee machine, kettle and microwave. All very comfortable.
Room very dusty, carpets . Furnishings looked grubby throughout the hotel. Lack of staff tge staff who were there were running about literally to get everyone served. Limited menu for dinner, breakfast poor, limited offer in bar. Horrible smell in corridors.lounge area nicest part but even that could do with a good clean . Definitely wouldn’t book again.
Close to busy road and a bit noisy if you have rooms facing the road. Friendly staff.
Location is nice, hotel is quaint, but the bed mattresses are awful. Woke up with the worst back pain ever.
We stayed here for one night while on our trip to the Highlands. The hotel is older but well kept and the staff are wonderful. Great Service and good food.
Glencoe Inn is amazing. Will definitely stay there again!
Our recent stay at the Glencoe Inn was far from the pleasant experience we expected based on the listing. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the property did not meet basic standards of comfort and cleanliness. To start, our room lacked basic amenities like slippers, which were advertised as included. The bathroom was unclean, with dirty toilets that should have been properly sanitized before our arrival. Worst of all, there was no hot water, making it impossible to freshen up after a long journey. Given these unacceptable conditions, we made the decision to cut our stay short and flew out just a few hours after arriving. We feel thoroughly misled by the property’s description and are now considering filing a formal complaint with hotels.co.uk for promoting a stay that did not match reality. The Glencoe Inn needs significant improvements in maintenance, housekeeping, and transparency before it can be recommended to other travelers. Until then, I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere for accommodation in the area.
Amazing stay when in or around Glencoe. Service is amazing. David is very helpful and there for breakfast to dinner to ensure you have all you need.
Very comfortable bed / room, though quite small (and a bit pricey at £275 room only). Some weird plumbing noises but otherwise a peaceful stay in a nice setting. Room decor was tasteful and bed linen of good quality.
We had a wonderful one-night stay. Scott (reception and overall guest services) and Roman (waiter and barman) were both fantastic. Food was incredible at dinner and breakfast. Very close to Hidden Valley trailhead for the hiking crowd.
The area is absolutely beautiful. Nice quaint bar area that played Scottish music that we really enjoyed.
Absolutely lovely staff, but everything else was severely lacking and I have no idea how this hotel could have five, four or even three stars. I've never stayed in such a noisy hotel with such low quality beds, even at places that were $50/night (and this was 4x that). I could hear my neighbors down the hall having sex (they weren't even that loud). Every footfall in the hallway past my door was audible from inside the room. I could give a transcript of quiet hallways conversations at 5 in the morning. The beds were abysmal. The sheet pulled back a bit and the mattress appeared to be yellowed and old. Mine, a double, was topped with two separate mattress toppers, which I assume they thought would breathe life into the ancient mattress, but only meant that a crevasse would open up in the center of the bed as they separated during the night. Regarding cleanliness, the carpet in the room had multiple huge red stains from who knows what. The main areas outside the upstairs rooms seemed clean, though. The hotel was understaffed during my March stay. It's very large--a pizza and fish & chips restaurant, a bar, the hotel restaurant, and another bar, but they only had one and a half people operating all of it. There were long periods where no one was around to help, and when he did appear he was clearly run ragged. Respect to him for trying, but the hotel needs to have more staff outside high season. Cannot recommend.
The view needs to be seen and the food was excellent.
We stayed here for a 2 night getaway after the christmas and new year festivities. With the previous reviews, I was little apprehensive but I am very happy to say that I was very pleasantly suprised. The room was warm, cosy and inviting with a stunning view of the loch. We dined in the fish & chip co. restaurant on our first night and it was delicious but dining in the 2nd night in the dining room was something else, the food was absolutely delicious. Its true what they say, you get what you pay for and what we paid was well worth it. I've told my friends and family about this little gem and they are planning a visit. Don't be put off by previous reviews, go and try for yourself, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back.
The charm and intimacy of this adorable inn embodies The Highlands of Scotland, and the staff sincerely were the most kind and accommodating people we have ever experienced in all our travels. Scott at the front desk made sure our every need was met. David ensured our breakfast was perfect and his wit and personality were delightful to start our day. Roman, the manager, served us an excellent meal with great conversation. Thank you Glencoe Inn! You are forever etched in our hearts!
Our room was very comfortable, though the view wasn’t great as it overlooked the restaurant. However, this was more than made up for by the lounge area—a quirky hidden gem! It was a nice space to relax, though it felt a bit eerie since we seemed to be the only ones using it, despite the inn being full. The staff were helpful and kind, and we received a warm welcome from Scott, which set a nice tone for our stay. The breakfast server (unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name) was also great—very friendly and made our mornings more enjoyable. That said, the food was quite expensive, and there were very few vegetarian options, which was disappointing. The lounge bar could have been open more often, and it would have been nice if they served beer. Overall, a good stay with a few small improvements that could make it even better!
I’ve never stayed at the Glencoe Inn before and I was so impressed with everything, staff are so welcoming, the manager was so helpful and kind, food was to die for, views are amazing. Overall worth every single penny :)
What a lovely, friendly hotel. From the night manager to the restaurant staff & day reception staff you couldn’t meet a friendlier more helpful bunch. I stayed for one night with my two children in a really cute & quirky double bunk bed and wished we could have stayed longer
Despite some other reviews you can see about this hotel, we had an amazing time. First of all, the location was amazing, what a view! It’s situated on the shore of Loch Leven (Glencoe) and the scenery was incredible. From the moment we walked into the hotel we were met with warm, friendly staff. The hotel is cute and cosy and our room was fantastic. Farmhouse style, clean and with a lovely view. We were also given snacks and a nice coffee machine. We had a bath in our room which was exciting and the shower was amazing. We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel on all 3 days of our stay - the food was exceptional. Very well presented and perfectly cooked. We had fillet steak, salmon and roast dinner during the stay (the roast sirloin was the best we’ve had). Our dining experience was made even better by David, who was not only professional and accommodating, but also extremely down to earth and friendly . We looked forward to seeing him at breakfast and dinner! All other members of staff were lovely but David really stood out for us and made our experience even more special. As the hotel bar and restaurant is only open to hotel guests it is a little quite - it would be great to see some more people to add to the atmosphere- but we did have a range of board games to play whilst we sat with our drinks in the living room. It was very relaxing. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Glencoe Inn. We will definitely be returning and would recommend them. Thank you for making our stay (our engagement weekend) very special.
Booked as a Boxing Day get away for my son and I as a treat after a very busy run up to Christmas. Very expensive for room only £431 for two nights. (breakfast an extra £15 each) we booked for one morning and it was nice enough but definitely not worth booking for the next morning (since travelling around the next day we found fresh croissants in the next village instead). We were then told there was no evening food available apart from the a la carte option and if we didn’t book more or less there and then we wouldn’t get food and there was no where else open apart (we were told) from trying Fort William, a 30 minute nighttime drive! So because we were hungry we booked and it ended up costing £100 and although nice it wasn’t worth that much. I think I was taken advantage of because I had a hungry teen. We have since found out there is a lovely pub beyond Glencoe village called The Clachaig Inn where we ate the next day for £30 and it was very nice. For me and a teenager two steaks and two desserts and a glass of wine (£11!!!!!! a glass!) £100 is a lot. Anyway moving on, I had to ask for towels, none in the room, I had to ask twice. The room although ok, had a constant flushing toilet….basically if another guest uses the loo it also flushed in our room! The smoke alarm flashes all night! And the walls are paper thin. The bed is extremely hard and after two nights of not sleeping due to all these things, my back is very sore. When the heating also ticks when starting up. Although it was a canny stay, we do feel that this hotel is a bit of a ‘catfish’ hotel. It looks amazing online but we nearly drove past as it really didn’t look like the pictures. The main pic in the advertisement is taken from a very clever angle. It is set on the A82, not set back as the photos would have you believe and parts of the hotel look very run down and a little cheap. It is masquerading as a much more high end hotel. The Staff however were very nice and Roman in the restaurant is a lovely guy. Reception area very odd but we were greeted well. Altogether an excellent couple of days exploring. I do think that these things I have brought up are a Common complaint (the loo, the flashing smoke alarm), but even though I mentioned it at the time and have left a review, I don’t think they are really interested in fixing them as they will always rely on tourists like us just needing a place to stay.
Area was gorgeous but they’re extremely short staffed and I think working on renovations. Smelled of mildew upstairs and parts of the hotel were closed off. Staff was great though
We had dinner at the Inn restaurant one night. I have to say it was one of the best meals we had during our vacation! Superb!
Good staff and great food
The property is under a transformation and it will be lovely and we enjoyed it. The dining staff were rude and extremely slow, we waited at our table for breakfast for 20 minutes before we even set eyes on someone. The staff at front desk were friendly, but knew very little about the area and what it had to offer.
Bed was so small.
Quaint welcoming
Cute place. Cozy, Hot tub could have been hotter. Sauna was nice. Had a good dinner at Moss. Hotel was over priced for the experience.
This place is in a great location. It has two onsite restaurants and is close to all of the Glencoe sites. Beautiful surroundings!
Very small rooms and not many choices for dining in the area
This hotel is in a great location for exploring the local area. It is well kept and clean. The dining options were good and the staff was excellent.
A very nice stay for couples.
My expectations of this property were likely too high but they were based on the price I was paying. The conditions are very basic. The water pressure in the bathroom was a trickle and I was unable to wash my hair because of it. It is very clean and that was nice. Breakfast was good. The other dining options were expensive for the quality and service was spotty. Staff was friendly.
The staff was so lovely and made us feel very welcome. The location is very quaint and quiet. The rooms don’t have frills, but you don’t need them in the highlands.
We loved our stay at the Glencoe Inn. The staff were wonderful, so accommodating and the Inn was beautiful and clean with great dining options.
Very understaffed especially for the kitchen. Overwhelmed by just a couple of parties. My room had a dirty towel still hanging in the bathroom and a dirty water glass.
