good breakfast
Bathroom fan a little noisy
Friendly staff. Nice location.
Very noisy room. Could hear people walking/talking floor above. Woke us up. Breakfast had run out of granola option leaving mainly fried food choices.
Lovely room and location
Breakfast very basic . Fruit juice poor quality and optional fresh fruit would have been a nice option.
Clean and spacious
.
Manager’s attitude was terrible … food was cold.
Food
Helpful staff and comfortable
All was as good as we had experienced 5 years ago. The surroundings are very discrete and peaceful with little or no traffic overnight Keep up the good work!
Nothing
The room was spotless and comfortable. The bar and restaurant were lovely, warm and welcoming. The staff were all friendly and helpful. It’s my new favourite place to stay in this area!!!
The room was across the road but it didn’t bother me at all
The room was lovely - spacious, quiet, and clean. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Parking availability was appreciated.
Just a small thing, but the TV wouldn't switch on (we watched an episode through our laptop instead), nor the extractor fan, and there wasn't a coffee machine in the room (as listed on Booking.com, and shown in the photos), which wasn't a major issue, as filter coffee was available with breakfast.
Excellent Hotel/Inn. Super bedrooms all well appointed. Fantastic food in restaurant with varied menu.
The Woodman is a little remote but that will suit many
Great location Comfortable & clean Good food
Very friendly
Beautiful furnishings and setting to eat. Good food. Breakfast and dinner were superb. Location was great for me as visiting friends. First stay in a gorgeous room. Very comfy beds
Room I stayed in last could have done with furniture repairs and bathroom needed attention. Carpet and walls needs cleaning. It was a disappointment as this want the usual woodman quality
The whole ambience of the place Very old worldly The staff were lovely The breakfast was really nice The old brickwork of the room
A little bit remote but a very nice area Easy to get to the main road to and from Huddersfield, a bit tricky to get there from where we travelled from
The staff were so warm and welcoming when I arrived. The food was beautiful but let down very poor infrastructure. I can't fault the food quality or the staff. More of a quality pub restaurant than a spot for a good night's sleep. I wouldn't stay again but I would stop for a meal.
Ground floor rooms are very noisy with staff leaving etc.. close to midnight. They have supplied ear plugs but could do more to insulate. Fire alarm at 3.30 am, then no water or power to my room in the morning. They gave me another room to shower in which was helpful. Given the issues I thought a small discount such as some money off my food bill would be reasonable but wasn't possible. I had a long drive today with less than 4 hours sleep which was disappointing when I'd planned my stay to break up a long journey. Reading the other reviews it's clear this has happened in August and July too so it's an under investment in the infrastructure that the staff then need to deal with. The poor cleaner was trying to clean in the dark with no power or water, absolutely unethical of the management not to get a proper solution.
Mattress Food
Inability of staff to source an extra blanket
Dog friendly The food offering
A few minor points i mentioned on check out
Lovely pub/hotel, nice friendly atmosphere, excellent polite staff! Would highly recommend, we will definitely be returning again 😊
Friendly staff. Hotel located in a scenic setting. Good food available. Smart tv in room. Nice country vibe decor. A lot of tea and coffee given in room.
Dusty in room. Noticeable hairs around which is assumed to be due to it being a dog friend place, but the bed was clean. Floors are creaky, this is only an issue if there are people above you that are early risers walking around.
Great bed, decent bedroom and ensuite. Good food. Dog friendly. Excellent staff. Good value for money.
Bedroom 9 would have benefitted from a chair. There was room.
Excellent evening meal. Large room and ample parking.
All standard for a stay in a hote;
1 No TV working-no attempt to correct 2 Rooms were insulated poorly so every movement in the hotel could be heard 3 Food at best average-i had the duck which was tough
Excellent hotel will be back.
The place
Power cut on the morning of leaving could not shower no water whatsoever had to travel back to London no information from staff just left 🙃
Exceptional value
Nothing
The staff were excellent, great break fast nice selection of beer.
The room was a little on the compact side, particularly the bathroom however, well appointed with good quality fixtures and fittings.
The room was very clean and comfortable
There are a few cracked floor tiles in the bathroom that need replacing and overall spoil the overall experience of the property/ room
Nice room comfortable bed and excellent shower. Friendly staff

The location was beautiful, staff very helpful and friendly, couldn’t do enough for us. We made a late booking and everything was ready with some lovely touches - decent biscuits and teabags. The food, especially the breakfast, was absolutely delicious!
The traffic on the road going through the village is quite fast - I feel for the hotel owners as it’s out of their control, but there was a lot of speeding in a 30 area, which wasn’t great when you had to cross the road for the car park.
gooood
Always perfect 👌
Great room. Very comfortable. Lovely breakfast
It was all good
Breakfast was good! Nice bread for toasting and the veggie full English was tasty! Fresh Avocado and mushrooms. Good vegan sausages. Nice ambience in the bar and lounge areas. Very popular bar. Menu had a few good plant-based starter items on it
Non-dairy milk at breakfast would be useful, and more selection of cereal. Bathroom had mould and a damaged bathroom door (at the bottom, looked like it had encountered a lot of water damage) Sheets were lovely white and clean but were scratchy. Although no fault at all of the property, the traffic whizzes along the road out front at alarming speeds and noise.
Breakfast was good. Room a little on the small side, no bedside table on the RHS.
Squeaky floors above, and 'over excited’ fellow guests in the room above us!
Great location, good food. Nice change from big soulless hotels.
Great breakfast and great food in the restaurant. Super staff.
Fire alarm going off at midnight whilst other resident was doing his ironing under a detector. It is worth reproducing the alarm should it happen again to inform residents how to avoid triggeeing an alarm and maybe not wait until midnight to do their ironing.
Location and friendly atmosphere
Room windows broken & horrible smell from bathroom
Nice pub, with large rooms
A little noisey
The location is in a delightful pretty hamlet with great walks nearby.
The late night noise of the wedding venue. The six rooms in the garden room are next to the wedding annex and the late night noise was irritating, especially as guests wait for taxis in the door entrance. The road noise wasn’t expected either.
Rooms comfortable and staff very helpful and friendly
Noise from bedroom above when people walked about
1. Overpriced for what they charge. 2. Rooms are pigeon holes ! 3. The house keeping staff are pathetic at cleaning ! 4. Unfortunately I had to spend 5 nights - they don’t vacumn the carpets so it’s filthy . 5. The vegetarian food esp the onion Bhaji burger is perhaps THE MOST carcinogenic food item I’ve ever eaten - the onion bhaji was so deeply charred that it was BLACK in colour ! I’m India so I’m well aware of onion Bhajis !!
The Woodman Inn is in a great location with good dining facilities and a wide variety of food on the menu. The guest bedrooms are wonderful with excellent facilities.
Beautiful location, nice decor, great breakfast
It was all good
What a find, so lovely and the staff are next level perfect 🤩
Lovely location, and views. Loved the facilities and convenience of being next to the inn itself. Room on ground floor and with outside patio and chairs
Room good. Food poor - reheated and straight out of a microwave in my opinion
The food
Beautiful location. Nice friendly staff.
Very noisy from traffic. Terrible food. Toilet ran with water all the time and black mild /damp on the bathroom ceiling. Curtains not lined so too light for summer. Smell from the upstairs kitchen of meat and grease. Occasional drainage smell in room
Clean and comfortable
Breakfast - "Runny poached egg and avocado" - Egg yolks were not runny and the avocado was simply sliced.....the chef should know to smash avocado with lemon, salt and pepper to give it taste and texture....slightly disappointing. Staff - although not in any way rude they all seemed just a little nonplussed, as if they were unmotivated and were just going through the motions. Customer focused service just seemed to be a side note.
BRILLIANT WELCOME AND GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL FROM ALL STAFF.
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Attentive staff and lovely food.
A really lovely setting and superb food all round a very good stay in a superb place.
Unfortunately a diversion in place due to road closure but these things happen.
Location was really good, evening meals where spot on, good sizes and well priced. Room had double patio doors that we left open to cool room down. Will definitely be going back
Bathroom could have done with a bit more shelving to unpack toilet bag and the only shelf there was wasn't fitted securely!
Brilliant
Brilliant
Beautiful well kept property in an outstanding location
Breakfast good, location was convenient for our needs
Due to hot weather would have liked a fan in the room Also fabric seat in the room was very stained and the bedroom carpet needed repairing
The overwhelming welcome and staff couldn't do enough for us. The mattress and the accommodation and food especially Tapas was excellent
The traffic due to road closure
Food lovely. The staff always look after me exceptionally well and if I am in a hurry in a morning, give me my coffee to take away, which is a lovely touch. They always look after my dog Buddy too.
Great location
EVERY MEMBER OF STAFF FIRST CLASS IN EVERY WAY. WE HAVE STAYED MANY TIMES AND GREATLY ENJOY THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.
Breakfast and room decor were lovely.
Room on ground floor with broken window latch was concerning, noise of traffic at window and bed head irritating when sleeping early morning.
Very spacious room. Well furnished. Although a wedding was on, we were not disturbed. Breakfast was excellent with a varied choice.
Some fresh fruit would make a good addition to breakfast choices.
The breakfast was good, though my wife was disappointed that the Eggs Royale are no longer on the menu. The Sunday Roast was superb & the free bottle of wine with our two roasts was much appreciated.
No Eggs Royale on the breakfast menu!
People Room overall very good. Location perfect for our purpose. Nice part of Kirkburton Will be back
Toilet door didn't shut properly. Window difficult to close. Very minor just needs a couple of tweeks
The food in the pub was good.
The room was dirty ,noisy and no TV remote. We asked for a remote twice but we never received it.
Location, the layout and the quick check in, plus the attention to detail from the team.
Nothing not to like, fab all round
Staff are amazing Fantastic breakfast Good choice of bar meals
Nothing not to like
Pleasant staff ,bed very comfortable, bathroom spotless,
Door handle missing, tv a bit confusing to work
It was absolutely amazing from start to finish.

Menu is excellent along with food in general.Highly recommended.
Everything! A lovely place, staff were friendly and helpful, food was really good. Great value for money

Nice surroundings. Easy to commute into Huddersfield even during peak travel times.
Being in one of the garden rooms didn't feel very safe. Unfortunately other guests constantly left the main entrance door to the the bedrooms wide open and as there was no staff in that part of the accommodation it was extremely unsettling. I know it was other guests that were leaving the door open but the situation could easily be rectified. The pod coffee machine was filthy, the hairdryer didn't work, wardrobe only had three coat hanger no dressing table type mirror etc. All those little details that could easily be rectified.
The staff were friendly and professional. The food was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable.
2 flights of narrow stairs to access our room. Less mobile visitors would need to ask for assistance to help with luggage.
Very nice, clean fresh room. Great little bar, lovely food and friendly staff.
Nothing
Location, parking , bar staff , breakfast staff great
Gentleman on reception, not very welcoming. Overwhelming smell of bad drains in room 9. We had to keep the bathroom door shut
Room was nice with quality furnishings. Good size and own entrance.
Room was very hot at times. Would've liked a fan. Busy road to beer garden.
repas excellent
Ontzettend aardig en behulpzaam personeel!
Excellent breakfast and evening meals. Comfortable
Algemeen zeer positief.

i like it since i saw it online. after travelling half the world for it, i must say it was worth every second and penny i spent. this is the england i fell in love with. not only i love this hotel, i love the quiet, peaceful lovely neighborhood even more 😭 they live the life i dreamed for myself. I will come back here, i promise. thank you for taking care of me and my first impression of the UK 🫶🏻🩶
Dinner and breakfast both excellent. Nice homely vibe. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
TV. Didn't appear to be any regular channels available. You'd need to log into free and paid streaming services for anything recognisable.

The inn has lots of charm and is full of character. The staff gave us a warm welcome and were friendly and efficient. The rooms were lovely and the bar and restaurant areas were cosy with excellent service and lovely food. A perfect stay.
Nothing.
We had a lovely room in the garden suite, everything you needed with lovely decor, the bed was super comfy, and the room was lovely. Nice little extras in biscuits, hot chocolate etc, couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t already included, brilliant housekeeping.
The sound proofing wasn’t amazing we could hear doors banging people talking etc
Clean and friendly staff
No way to control the temperature, very warm room. Only window was balcony door so couldn’t have it open at night
Beautiful location lovely staff
Great people! Lovely pub and food in a brilliant location.
A bit noisy in the room - road traffic.
Great little room! We will definitely be returning
Park8ng great, good value for money very beautiful location
Rooms noisy from road, 1 bed very small ...
The reception staff and waters were very pleasant and helpful. The location is fabulous and the character of the building and its surrounding country is beautiful. Dinner was acceptable and there was a decent menu though food not first rate. Coffee at breakfast was excellent and unlimited. Breakfast service was great.
Bar staff not at all helpful to bordering on rude. Bed was advertised as large and a £30+ upgrade from the standard room but was only queen sized at most. Very noisy (jet engine sounding!) WC hand dryer running time and time again on 1st floor affected our 2nd floor bedroom until 10.30pm when bar closed. Heating worked OK in the evening but was off in the morning and room was chilly as was the hotel. Front door was wedged open rather too much and wind blew through the dining area at times. Breakfast was underwhelming (I had Full English B which had good bacon, one poor example of a sausage, one slice of dried up black pudding, one small open mushroom (could have had 3 or 4), one tiny poached egg (was asked how I wanted my eggs plural), beans (OK - you can't easily mess them up).
Most everything material was perfect. Breakfasts amazing. Room and en-suite just fine.
No steak on the menu due to price, let the client decide if it’s too dear. Room service not daily. No drinks service for residents after 11.00pm, as in not at 11.05pm though locals still drinking. My grumbles are picky as the overall experience was excellent.
Great staff, excellent food, comfy bed. Lovely old building. Plenty of parking.
Nothing
Friendly staff, clean rooms and ample parking. Nice and inviting bar area and reasonably priced drinks.
Once of my favourite retreats in the countryside and it never ever fails to be amazing, each and every time. The staff are wonderful too, especially Hannah who made my stay perfect from check in, right through to check out. Thank you
