Great location, great staff, decent food.
No real negative feedback. Perhaps the breakfast could have been a touch cheaper (we went out for breakfast instead)
Good Position to the lake
The road you have to cross at the bottom of the drive
The breakfast was lovely and staff were very accommodating,it was our 5 year wedding anniversary and asked ahead for flowers and when we arrived they were in the room with a card wishing us a very happy anniversary
The room we were in had a 4 poster bed but one of the posts obscured the telly, maybe best to move it to the other side but apart from that there was nothing else

Ruime kamer en badkamer met kwaliteits linnen. Lekker warm ontbijt.
It had nice grounds
Our room was very warm. The welcome at reception was disappointing as we were greeted with ‘your early’. We turned up at 13:30 knowing we couldn’t check in until 15:00 so expected to have lunch before going into our room. Constrained meal times in that we had to choose the day before what time we would be taking breakfast in the morning. Not enough staff running the bars-they were running between the 2 We were shocked by an automatic 10% surcharge on drinks at the bar!
Excellent location great views. Lovely hotel lots of character
All good
Location and parking was good and views excellent.
Building a bit tired. No lift. Staff cleaning vacant rooms in the morning were leaving an untidy pile of towels etc in the passageway. Not what I would have expected for a 4 Star place.
Lovely hotel for the wedding of good friends of ours
Nice location
Room was on a fire escape so no view.
Clean spacious good food very lovely grounds
In a quiet countryside, lovely grounds and dogs welcome. We had booked with dinner and breakfast. Taster meal dinner was excellent and well worth it, thank you
Room is a little on the small side but very clean and comfortable bed When we arrive the receptionist was not very welcoming, in fact the most grumpy receptionist I have ever encountered. If it wasn’t for the rest of the staff that were extremely friendly I would have given you a bad review
For the money it was really not worth it. Friendly reception lady in the morning.
We paid £180 for one night and we were positioned above the large bins (which were emptied very early waking us up). Very basic and old fashioned food facilities and waits due to staff shortages. Room was very basic and small and extremely different from any advertised.
Très beau site. Bon restaurant. Chambre petite mais propre. Réceptionniste charmant. Bon rapport qualité prix.
Staff were all excellent. Good location. Also had afternoon tea which was lovely
Followed directions to car at back of hotel, steps down to hotel mossy and slippy however did move the car and Managed to park in front of reception which was then fine
Breakfast was very good. Plenty of choice. Cooked to your requirement.
The Internet wasn't very good in the bedroom.
Staff very friendly.
Shower pressure was poor.
Everything including the beautiful interiors.
Nothing.
The views are outstanding for this hotel but for us the staff especially Adam made our stay the best, every staff went above and beyond and couldn't do enough for us
I know they cant change much about it because of the age of the building but the shower in room 3, wasn't good at all, and the WiFi is terrible
The staff were very helpful and offered great service despite the power outage the first night. The hotel is very nice and the restaurant is good. Just a word of caution: to get to the boat jetty you have to cross a very busy street.
Everything was fine
The staff were extremely professional. We arrived to a power cut that lasted hours and the staff remained calm and kept us informed throughout. They were friendly and very accommodating and made our stay extra comfortable. The special taster menu and the grill meal and breakfasts we had were all amazing! We would highly recommend the food.
Nothing
Lake 400 yds away except other side of main road and severe slope Power loss on arrival - unable to do anything no backup
Good breakfast. Friendly staff
Bathroom & shower a bit cramped. Dinner menu disappointing
Great location, friendly staff, breakfast was really fantastic! Options of continental alongside hot cooked breakfast - highly recommend. The outside tables with a view of the lake were wonderfully situated for an afternoon or evening drink. The shower and bath were great!
The rooms were quite hot, stuffy and we could not open the windows more than a smidge, so hardly any air could circulate. Bedrooms were tired and could do with a revamp.
The area was good. Staff were welcoming and helpful.
I think you needed more staff. We waited quite a while for drinks at the bar even after ringing the bell. We also had to wait awhile to ge seated at breakfast because there was only one person doing everything. I do think the hotel is a little tired. Carpets were thread bare especially on the stairs and empty crockery and glasses in the hall ways after the night before. Also, staff were so noisy in the morning when cleaning up, but 7.30am is very early when you are on a weekend break.

Beautiful country house and grounds. Gorgeous room. Staff were incredibly helpful letting us have early entry as we had traveled a distance. Outside tables to enjoy the evening sun. Views of Lake Windermere from the garden. Good breakfast. Excellence value overall. Would definitely stay again.
Superb setting with friendly, competent and most helpful staff. The breakfast experience was amazing. Just wish our stay had been longer.
Struttura molto accogliente e ben tenuta, in un contesto verdeggiante. Camera e bagno spaziosi, parcheggio privato in struttura. Letti comodi e ottima accoglienza.
Beautiful location, gorgeous room, super friendly staff
A wonderful stay at Merewood! The property is excellent, rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly throughout. Highly recommended!

The location is fantastic, a 10 minute drive into Bowness, or 10 minutes into Ambleside. The staff were great, super attentive and went above and beyond any requests. We stayed in a classic room which was really spacious and the bathroom was huge.
Nothing
Excellent location Beautiful gardens and views across Windermere Great breakfast
Room a bit small Noisy in the morning with gardeners or delivery trucks
Excellent location, beautiful hotel/setting, room was spacious, staff were amenable, loved the bar and seating downstairs, plenty of parking
Breakfast was average (we expected better options and quality)
Comfy beds and great breakfast
We loved the place great location and views.
Bar so expensive 2 gin and tonics £30.90. One was a double would not of minded if it was nicely presented with a nice bottle of tonic. Served in a standard water glass with on tap tonic London essence cheap and nasty. No lemon as was told it would be a waste if no one else wanted lemon and then slapped 10% service. Posd8the worst gin and tonic we have ever had and possibly the most expensive not value for money. False economy as we didn't buy another drink during our stay. I manage a bar and the same gins served in proper gin glasses with lemon and bottle fever tree toinc £17.00. Based on experience might go back to stay but would not use the bar.
Very nice staff, especially one person serving breakfast- very smiley. Beautiful location.
Bed not comfortable at all, huge spider web hanging over bathroom light and mirror.
Lovely place with views of Lake Windermere. Staff really pleasant and helpful. Food excellent and selection of draught and bottled beers, spirits and wines, though a tad expensive.
It was very hot during our stay and whilst an electric fan was in our room, it did little to cool the room down. Can't blame the hotel for that, it was an extreme heatwave.
Looks lovely from the outside, gorgeous well kept gardens. Great view up a hill. Staff were excellent, Joe, Imogen and Matt. Love the phone call from the hotel the day before confirming the booking, asking if needed dinner or breakfast booking. That is a nice touch and also a good marketing. Loved it was quiet and peaceful. With a bit of work and money this hotel could achieve 5 stars.
Bit disappointed on the room. Needs refreshing, water marks down the wall paper, no curtains, battered desk. so that room i'd give it 3 stars, not the 4 stars the hotel is meant to be. It had a lot of cobwebs so housekeepers needs to look up when cleaning. Walking past other room with open doors, they looked amazing, so can't understand why that room was not at that standard. I was surprised to be told no staff were on site at night (they did give clear instructions on who to call.) I thought 4 star hotels were required to have staff physically present on site 24 hours a day. I know they are part of a group and other hotels are like 10 mins walkaway, maybe that is why?
View
Rom and bed smaller than expected
Very peaceful location, lovely grounds, nice staff, excellent breakfast. Very good all round.
Not a lot to say here
Great location. Could see the lake from the dining room and other main floor rooms as well.
A lift
Staff excellent, hotel excellent, excellent value Special mention for Tavia who was exceptional 10 out of 10

Location and views Checkin staff
Lots of little things spoilt our visit Junior staff gave impression of being under trained - attention to detail was lacking
The location of the hotel is superb. Just a short drive to Bowness which is a lovely place to visit. Fabulous garden centre is five minutes away. From our room in the hotel the view over the lake was amazing. Breakfast was a pleasure, with numerous choices and friendly approachable staff. Everything considered our Merewood stay was a great short break.
The weather could have been kinder. Rain, rain and more rain. To be expected in the Lake district!!!!!
The hotel was beautiful inside and out, with original features preserved and pleasant gardens. I was given a free upgrade to a spacious room with lovely views over the lake. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The menu in the Grill restaurant was appealing and the wild rice served with the chicken supreme was different and delicious. There was a good choice of hot food for breakfast and it was very good (except for the toast).
Difficult to find something I didn't like. I struggled to get the curtains to close fully but I mentioned this on leaving and feel confident it will be rectified.
Secluded yet close to Bownees, great weekend!

Old world style country house hotel just outside of Ambleside. Good location, good food, good service. All round excellent stay and good value for the quality of the hotel. The type of place you'd sit by a fire on a cold and wintery day and just 'be'. Dog friendly with specific dining rooms for those with dogs away from the main restaurants.
Nothing, just that I'm not there now!
Beautiful location and hotel near the lake. Rooms very nice, Excellent service. Food very nice. Excellent value. Would definitely stay again.

Merewood is a beautiful historic house. The staff, particularly Amin were all wonderful and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious. The grounds are stunning, we saw several deer.
I can’t think of one criticism. We loved our stay.
Staff were great and hotel was lovely, extremely comfortable and very large bed. Dog friendly and gardens were beautiful with lots of paths to walk.
This was a wonderful experience and I loved the room, the view from the room, the staff, the grounds, the meals, the library and sitting rooms. The bar was nice and both restaurants served lovely meals.
I didn't like the music that was playing over the speakers. It was some sort of country western music from the 1980's and I felt that it detracted from the deliciousness of the place.
Lovely hotel full of character
Could hear kitchen extraction fans in our bedroom but they were silent about 10pm
The hotel is a lovely old country house with phenomenal views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding countryside. The grounds and nearby are absolutely gorgeous to walk in and the staff are outstandingly welcoming of dogs. We have never been made to feel so welcome when travelling with our labrador. We will definitely return.
Lovely property in its own grounds and close to town centre.
Reasonably well placed. Lovely country house hotel.
No real negatives.
Friendly staff Location of hotel Cleanliness
Gorgeous location, comfortable room super bathroom. Lovely friendly staff
Nothing
The location, the views of Windermere. How all the staff made me & my sister very welcome. Plus the amazing Afternoon Tea we had which was a belated birthday present for my sister.
Nothing nit to like.
The location and views are stunning but what really makes this place stand out is the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay. Would definitely recommend.
All of the staff were absolutely splendid. Polite, friendly, proactive, and hard working. My room was lovely and it was great to have the nespresso machine. The views from the hotel are stunning and the drawing room is bright and great for chilling in. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I stayed for four nights and would not hesitate to come back. Thank you to everyone at Merewood.
Old style
Dated carpet
Some of the smaller lights in the room didn't work, but we made due. Certainly not a deal breaker.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, delicious food and drinks
Nothing
Staff and service were excellent. We were made the feel very welcome and at home. Breakfast was very good.
Stairs for these older legs. But a gorgeous staircase😆
This beautiful old building is set in a fabulous location. The lounges were incredibly comfortable and perfect for sipping a glass of wine while gazing over the lake. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the breakfast menu was excellent. For dinner, we opted for the grill menu, which offered a limited but reasonably priced selection. The food was delicious. The hotel is very dog-friendly and provides a doggy welcome pack upon arrival. Taking your dog for a walk around the hotel is a treat, especially round by the stunning bluebell woodland that backs the property. I’ll definitely be returning in the future.
The water pressure on the shower in room 12 was very disappointing
Finaste platsen man har sett
Genuint hotell med en fantastisk vacker omgivning
View, comfy and clean room.
Quite rude waiter. Shower was not very good at all. Condensed window so couldnt really see the fantastic view very well.
We had our evening meal at the grill, which was delicious. Breakfast was also very good. The location is beautiful. It was our anniversary, and we sat in the the evening sun drinking champagne before dinner.
Lovely location with fantastic views. Staff were very helpful and friendly. In particular very dog friendly.
The upper car park was difficult for my wife to access but that was sorted by parking adjacent to the entrance.
Great location & lovely historic building. Staff were very friendly and the food was very good.
Our room was a little cramped and it would have been good to have a small fridge.
The location, staff, food and ambience were all excellent, with a special thank you to Adam who was most engaging and informative. The open fire lit in the evening in the library really evoked the country house atmosphere.
The bedroom was a little smaller than expected but enjoyed an excellent view looking down to Lake Windermere. The rather heavy quilt made for a less than comfortable night, although that is a purely subjective comment , and easily addressed by offering alternative bedding
Gorgeous location and the lovely feeling of a cosy country house hotel
As a wedding party was in got quite noisy in the corridors
This would be probably the best place we have stayed. From the building to our room everything was so perfect. Breakfast is amazing, Staff are fabulous.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, set in a picture-perfect location with beautiful surroundings throughout. The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive, and both breakfast and dinner service were impeccable. We also really enjoyed the facilities, particularly the conservatory, billiards room and library, which added to the overall experience.
The main downside was the condition of the room, which felt quite run down compared to the rest of the hotel. There were sockets hanging off the wall, non-working remotes, and a lack of usable plug sockets for things like phone charging. The “power shower” was also very disappointing, with extremely low pressure.
Location
It was ok
The architecture, setting and warmth of the staff
The room was cramped, dated and poorly maintained with an awfully rock hard bed that is far to big for the room.
Lovely old building in a great location with magnificent views.
Such a gorgeous hotel and surrounding area, staff were exceptionally helpful and accommodating for us and our little Pomeranian and the food we had was perfect. Overall a 10/10 stay and would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.
Nothing to dislike.
It was beautiful, staff were lovely
Everything was amazing no complaints
Location was good
Very outdated, not a 4 star hotel at all, rooms were very small, underwhelming and staff didn’t take our requirements into consideration at all.
The food was excellent. The tasting menu in particular. The seven course experience was beyond expectations.
The hotel accommodates dogs which caused no problems. But not impressed with animals on the settees and table in the bar area.
Very dog friendly so the perfect place for a getaway with your dogs. Maybe not the best place if you don't like dogs as there were a few dog guests. Great location to explore. Windermere and Ambleside near by. Lovely staff. Joe and Steve especially good.
Room was very small but did have a lovely lake view. Bed was creaky.
Wow, this hotel is a little gem..! Nestled on the slope overlooking Lake Windermere, it gives you spectacular views..... The rooms are comfortable and well laid out. The bar is lovely and offers a large selection of drinks. We had evening dinner and breakfast and the food was beautiful and plentiful.... Nothing to complain about..! Oh, the staff were excellent and looked after us very well...
That our stay was short..!
Great hotel in a beautiful location, 3rd visit
