Green Hill Hotel Onomichi

Super convenient location, opposite Onomichi Station. Walking distance to most attractions and food options. The room was clean and relatively quiet. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke English when my Japanese wasn’t quite up to scratch. I would definitely stay again.

First, to set the context since this is one of my first reviews. 5' 10". I haven't really travelled all that much before. Overall I had a very good experience staying with them. Green Hills is "old" as in the property has been around for a while 1997 but that really only dates the aesthetics for certain aspects most people may never be bothered by such as the elevators, carpet, chair upholstery, desks, location of electrical outlets and so on. I stayed two nights, two single rooms (there with a friend) harbor-side with added breakfast. The bed was firm, there was no outlet on the built-in shelf above the bed. There was little to no noise bleeding in from the harbor at night or I wasn't that bothered by it. The room was kept fairly clean and they gift a couple of bottles of water along with some mikan in jello. The breakfast buffet was filling and there should be sufficient enough variety. You aren't going to be expecting luxury but I think you're going to be fairly comfortable. Be careful when getting into the shower, the lip of the tub is some awkward height higher than whatever the standard American tub height is.

The property is spartan and is ok for an overnight stay. It would not be suitable for a longer stay and the WiFi did not work well at all, so definitely not suitable for a business stay. I also messaged in advance with a question and did not receive a reply.

Right next to the station and harbor, very nice hotel to stay at after the shimanami kaido since I found the beds very comfortable.

This is an exceptional hotel. So many nice touches. Like a Dyson hair dryer in the room. Who does that? Great location. Walking distance to everything.

.

Great spot to stay. Spacious room and convenient to the centre of town. Walking distance to everything

Staff was extremely polite and accommodating

Staff was very helpful. Area is lovely. Hotel is older however.

Great for starting Shimanami Kaido cycle. Even had bike racks in the foyer.

Everything was very clean and the staff was polite

Loved the fruit for breskfast

By the water

Lovely staff, very good breakfast. Comfortable, good air con. Great location, Onomichi was a lovely place to stay with lots of hidden gems

Good stay for access to the cycling path. Near station and bike hire places. Lovely view of harbour. Hotel good, and check out Little Mermaid bakery across the street, very good for breakfast etc.

As a visitor to Onomichi (and likely Shiminami Kaido rider) you couldn’t reasonably ask for a more perfect hotel. A sky bridge takes you directly from the train station exit to the hotel, and the bike rentals are all within a few hundred feet of it. My son and I enjoyed some deliscious (and surprisingly authentic) Neapolitan pizza less than a five minute walk from the hotel, but there are also some very well-reviewed Japanese / Onomichi options as well. Room was clean and comfortable (my son liked it more than the $300/night room we had in Kyoto) and the breakfast better than I’d hoped). I recommend this place without reservation.

Very nice! And great view amazing and friendly staff onomichi is beautiful as well.

👍

Was probably the best place to start the shininami kaido bike route with the staff letting us store our bags for the one day we'd be gone. Very clean rooms and very convenient location for busses, ferries and the trains.

Breakfast was good and plentiful. Our room had a fantastic view.

The room was a bit tired..

We did the Shimanami Kaido bike ride and the Hotel was in a very convenient proximity to the bike rentals and The Ferry you need to take to start your ride. Staff is very accommodating.

Staff was super friendly, even the cleaners. Hotel in perfect location, super clean, room had plenty of space. Highly recommended! Will return!

The hotel was in a very convenient location for us to bike the shimanami kaido cycling trail. The staff and our early breakfast were great.

Close to everything. Discount offered for guests in the dining room meant a great deal for dinner. Had a room with a view which was great.

Comfortable and conveniently located.

Very spacious hotel rooms with friendly staff in a lovely harbour town. Definitely recommend staying for a night or two

Breakfast were so good

Hotel staff were great , location is convenient as it’s right by the subway station and by the shopping street. It is at the area where the biking trail starts. Will come stay again. They had good samples of snacks in the room that represent the area like lemon jelly.

Your room was wonderful and a great design for solo travellers. Dyson hair dryer was very unexpected. One thing I would say is once you sit something down for the breakfast buffet, and another group of two comes in, asking me to move from my space when I’m already picking food requires me to be nice.

Convenient location, an older style hotel. Served purpose of an overnight b4 attempting the Shimanami Kaido!

We rode the Shimanami Kaido and the location of the hotel could not be better situated.

The seaside view was stunning

Great location, and the breakfast was very good!

Brilliant location- incredibly clean and well appointed - a great place to stay in onimichi

カードKEYを2枚お願いしましたが発行してもらえませんでした。以前は2枚できていたのですが。お部屋にお菓子、ゼリーがありそこはうれしいですね。駅近という立地がよいてす。

Great location, convenient to the Shimanami bike rental and the ferry for starting our ride across Shimanami Kaido. Very accommodating about storing our luggage and arranging to send it to Imabari when we made a last minute change to our cycling plans because of the weather. Economy rooms were tiny but comfortable.

Well located, especially for bike hire and the station. The room was quite good for the price.

Perfect location across from train station. View of river and walking boardwalk. Excellent breakfast buffet. One thing to know, the bed are rock hard,

Perfect location for Shimanami Kaido Cycle, very friendly & helpful staff, only problem was the mouldy smell of the room - there was also visible mould growing around the window seal probably from the condensation it had on it every night despite limited aircon use, would still consider staying again

It was fantastic

The hotel held our bags for a day while we rode the Shimanami Kaido. When we returned to check-in for our second stay, they had refrigerated two cans of beer that I had in bottle pockets on the outside of my backpack. It was a very thoughtful and kind act by the hotel staff.

Perfect location with kind, attentive staff.

I'm

Very convenient for starting/ending a cycle

Stay was fantastic! Beautiful view of the water, and great location. This was the largest room (of four) we stayed in during this trip to Japan, and was by far the most comfortable. Even the bathroom was (while not huge) much bigger than the other hotels. Restaurant was very good, with very friendly staff. Breakfast at this hotel was also excellent, and by far the best of all the hotels we stayed at on this trip. It had many great Japanese breakfast options, and made a solid attempt at a western style breakfast -better than any other hotel we stayed at during this stay (i.e. actual scrambled eggs instead of the typical runny eggs we found everywhere else). Only complaint, the in-room thermostats do not work. The hotel acknowledged this in a little write-up in the room. So we were stuck with either having the airflow on or off, and receive whatever temperature air the central system decides to push out, which was too warm during our stay, and we had no way to cool the room down. Also, the bathroom fan is absolutely ineffective, so after the two of us had showers, the room was uncomfortably humid for quite a while. The large window was dripping with condensation (they should include a dehumidifier). The window seemed to be able to open (would have helped a lot) but was locked, so we couldn't open it. They also have a small bicycle storage area in the hotel, which was great. We only stayed two nights here, but on our next trip, we will absolutely stay again!

Love

A few minutes walk from rail station. Clean comfortable, friendly and helpful staff. Has a very varied and delicious breakfast. Would stay here again for sure. The cable car that takes you up the mountain to all the sights is a pleasant stroll away along a covered shopping arcade

Conveniently located just opposite the train station & right next to the ferry crossing for the start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route

This was a great place to start the shimanami kaido bike trail. The only drawback was the room was very hot and you could neither open the window or turn the air on. The hotel controls the air conditioning for cost purposes

Great location for walking the boardwalk, easy access to bike paths, very attentive staff. Get to breakfast early however, as offerings do not “age” well on the steam table.

Facility showed its age but the explicitly clean room makes up for it. A-plus for cleaning staff. Value for money is fair. Lowest price for the smallest room, tight for two persons. The location and convenience added to the higher price than other nearby hotels.

Great location. Small room. Found the room very warm. Good for a couple of nights.

Friendly staff

Its ok and ok

Friendly staff. Nice and convenient. Near Onomichi station.

Have stayed here numerous times last few years. Very nice comfortable hotel. Train is literally across the street. Rooms are very comfortable. Will always stay here when in Onomichi.

Located across the road from the train station and right on the water this is a fantastic hotel in a great town. Double room with water views was not only super comfortable but of good size. Buffet breakfast has plenty of variety and strong hot coffee. Everything in town is walkable and would definitely stay here again.

Room was very warm was difficult to bring temperature down bath is very short but the location is perfect and it has a big closet and is clean !

Nice location right next to the station and bike rental shops.

Great breakfast

Great breakfast with both Japanese and western food options. Conveniently located next to train station and ferry. Also only a stone throw away from bike rentals.

Stayed there 2 years ago & they are still having the same problems with their WiFi service. If hotel has a lot of guests WiFi is very unreliable. They knew about it than & wont do anything about it. Room was very warm. You can’t control the temperature at all! TV has zero non Japanese channels. Other than that it’s a nice place to stay for the price.

Wonderful property to rest at after completing the Shimanami Kaido biking course (if you start at onomichi). Great selection of Teas and buffet in the first floor. Very nice and clean room, small but perfect for one person.

Air con didn’t work. We were sweating all night. Found condom wrapper on floor under bed

Staff was very responsive. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Location is ideal for cycling.

The hotel is in a wonderful location if you’re there to visit the temples and ropeway. The staff is amazing and breakfast was good. If you get a room with a harbor view, the view is amazing. The hotel room itself feels dated and could use updating.

Very convenient

This hotel is comfortable and quiet, incredibly convenient for accessing Onomichi and the Shimanami Kaido, but we had one major problem: the rooms smell extremely musty or perhaps of stale body odor? We stayed in two different rooms across two separate reservations on either side of our Shimanami Kaido adventure. Initially, we simply thought we had bad luck. We even asked a couple in the elevator if their room was smelly or musty, and they said theirs was fine. On our second reservation, they were about to give us the same exact room as our previous stay, and we politely explained that the room had an unpleasant odor and was it possible to switch rooms? The staff worked politely to accommodate us, and switched us to another room several doors down. No such luck: the exact same odor strongly present in the second room. The windows are also locked, so allowing in fresh air isn’t possible We searched existing reviews to see if anyone else reported this problem, and came up with nothing, which was surprising - most reviews are positively glowing. This hotel has a lot of positives in its favor - it’s convenient and overall pretty comfortable - but the odor is frankly unacceptable, and made spending time in the room unpleasant.

Perfect location for cycling shimanami Kaido. Massage chairs were fantastic after the cycle. Very clean and comfortable.

Good location next to a pleasant walkable promenade and covered shopping area with restaurant options. Disappointed that the main restaurant was closed on Monday evening. Hotel looks and feels new.

Great location and oven view

Property is great

Location is perfect for anyone cycling Shimanami Kaido. Right next to the bike rentals, ferry terminal (where you begin the ride) and Onomichi Station. Rooms were a little dated but it didn’t bother me. A great crash pad after a long day of cycling.

Very nice hotel with bright clean rooms in a very central location. The only suggested improvement would be to have more western style breakfast choices. Despite having paid for breakfast, I tended to go to the bakery at the station instead. Overall a pleasant stay and would return if in the area.

Great place to start the Shimanami Kaido! Staff very helpful for sorting luggage forwarding as well as restaurant recommendations. Short walk to bike hire, ATM and restaurants. The room was comfortable and pleasant. Would stay here again.

We loved this place. The view of the port with all the action was very entertaining. Easy to rent bikes and go on the path. We did a day of island hoping on electric bikes and came back with ferry. Very easy and well organised. Breakfast was a buffet with many delicious choices. Great quality for price

部屋がとても綺麗でした。ベビーベッドだけでなくタオルまで追加してくださっていました。 丁寧な対応にとても気持ちよく滞在できました。また利用したいです。

The view from hotel windows are beautiful.

I like the bike storage area

We came to bike the islands with the family. This was the perfect place to start. Enjoyed the breakfast. Very clean room.

Location was great for cycling. Close the bike rental, station and ferry. Massage chairs were a bonus.

Very small rooms and try to get a water front which is much nicer.

ツインルームを利用。輪行袋にいれるて自転車を部屋に持ち込むことができる。広さは十分。駅、フェリー乗り場に近いことがメリット

ロケーションもサービスもよく、快適に過ごせました。機会があればまた利用したいです。

Great location and our room had a view of the water. We like Japanese breakfasts and we’re happy we got the breakfast option. Lots of extra amenities: two free bottles of water, chocolates for sleeping well, small snack packets, and instant ginger tea. The bed was more comfortable than in other hotels in similar price ranges. Very reasonably priced.

Generally good

Location is super great for any activities, ferry port and rental cycling spot is on the ground floor. Room is very clean and port view is nice. Not so much friendly but sufficient enough and understandable during COVID19 situation. The only negative comment is the attitude of one tenant restaurant, which is located on the ground floor. Very nasty attitude by manager(I assume )

キレイです。尾道駅からすぐ。飲食店、コンビニも近いです。

It was very nice and the coffee espresso machine in the quarters near the vending machine was a great touch!

Very close to station and ferry. Clean room and good service.

Super clean and spacious

Great location, right next to station, island ferries, bike rentals. Complimentary coffee, massage chair and bar. Super service from friendly staff.

They held our baggage overnight so we could bike the Shimanami Kaido! GREAT customer service, and a wonderful hotel!

Decent, basic hotel. Just fine. Nothing special. Almost no English spoken in this town.

Room was very hot. Could not adjust the temperature. Was able to the window unlocked for us and that helped a lot. Over all a nice location to stay at. Very close to the train station.

location is perfect for exploring the city great place to start the way to imabari with bicycle 1 min walking from the bus station great location great stay

The room is spacious. The location is great, very close to JR station. The seaview room is fanastic.
